How many of you bitches have tried it yet? Popeye's is my all-time favorite fast-food joint, and I try to limit myself to only going there 3-4 times per year. I passed by the one near work today and there was a line out the door. This will definitely be my order the next time I go!
Popeye's new chicken sandwich is getting rave reviews

Mmmmm....Looks good! I hadn't had Popeyes in maybe 20 years when just last week a friend showed up with a bag of Popeyes Louisiana chicken bites. Jesus Christ Almighty that shit was unfucking believably delicious. The thick, seasoned crunchy coating was nuts! đ Someone tell me how to duplicate that at home! Please!!!
And no, I'm not fat.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 14, 2019 6:41 PM |
Girl, no. It was ok, not 4.32$ worth it. It is crunchy good, but the actual meat was dry and flavorless. They should have marinated the meat cajun sauce. The sauce was of the sandwich was tepid and forgettable. Go to chipotle instead.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 14, 2019 6:45 PM |
Not as good as Chick-fil-A.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 14, 2019 7:20 PM |
I have only tried the Chik-Fil-A in Manhattan once. It was ok but nothing amazing, and definitely not something that lived up to the massive hype. But Popeye's is almost always great, regardless of location. I have even had it delivered once (yes, I type obese) and it was still hot and juicy.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 14, 2019 7:22 PM |
R2, Numerous recipes on how to duplicate Popeye's chicken.
Haven't eaten it in years since they started using miniature chicken legs. Not worth it anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 14, 2019 7:32 PM |
OP here - I tried the chicken sandwich. It was good but not great. I went into it with high expectations but at the end of the day, it's still fast food.
I'd recommend others to try it though. It's better than chicken sandwiches at other places I have tried (McD's, BK, Wendy's, Chik-Fil-A).
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 16, 2019 7:12 PM |
The fried chicken is awesome IF it's bone in. The strips and bites are just ok and not near as good as the legs and thighs.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 16, 2019 7:25 PM |
Fried chicken thighs are where it's at!!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 16, 2019 7:26 PM |
White People will still eat at Chik-Fil-A.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 16, 2019 7:50 PM |
I may get around to trying it, if I can resist the bone in feast I usually order at Popeye's. Their Red Beans & Rice are delicious too. For those eating the Cunt Fill-A, just stop. There is no possibility of redeeming oneself after eating there.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2019 2:41 AM |
I'm shocked that it had sold out at locations in Manhattan.

I am Popeyes for life. Never would darken the doorstep of the other place, so hope this will be a success! I like the red beans and rice with a side of pickled jalapeño. I only eat the chicken once or twice a year.

I LOVE fast food threads on DataLounge! Always full of posters who insist they almost NEVER eat at fast food restaurants yet always seem to be passing by one of them or forced into eating at one of them by a friend, family member, or co-worker. Despite almost NEVER eating at fast food restaurants, the posters are always intimately familiar with their menus and new offerings and are eager to start threads about them.

Our Popeyes has had a food truck selling this in a sweltering parking lot for the past few weeks, so as to drum up anticipation for the actual Popeyes restaurant, which is being built. Itâs been too crowded to go so far, but Iâm glad to finally have Popeyes closer to my house. I can ride my bike there and burn off a biscuit and a thigh!

As a youngster I worked in fast food, and as a result I wonât eat at any âcasual diningâ spot. I worked at Wendyâs and we took turns spitting in the chili. We were 16-18 years old and would also stick hamburger buns down our pants and rub them on our crotches. We even had a crew member that blew a âsnot rocketâ into the salad bar dressing. Of course now thereâs surveillance cameras, but I still donât trust teens and convicts prepping my food.

by Anonymous | reply 139 | August 24, 2019 8:10 PM |
The Popeyes I went to yesterday was multicultural, and a white woman handed me my chicken sandwich. Granted I live in SoCal... unsure where R135 lives.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | August 24, 2019 8:11 PM |
In LA there are more Popeye's in white neighborhoods than Black or Hispanic.
135 is your white robe and hood all clean and pressed?

I prefer not to get food poisoning, R3
by Anonymous | reply 142 | August 24, 2019 8:14 PM |
Tends to be true in the Philly area R141. The whole white Christian cult loves CFA. The locations are very different.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | August 24, 2019 8:15 PM |
R140 r137 here and I live in Downtown Brooklyn near Barclays and thereâs always different types in Popeyes. The workers are diverse also. The main manager is Middle Eastern and the workers are all different, some black, some white, the girl that rand me out the other day was Latina.
I donât get where this belief itâs only black people that eat there. Probably because in black neighborhoods itâs almost all black people because the area is mostly black. And they tend to post images and videos more to social media than anyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | August 24, 2019 8:15 PM |
In PA, Amish town, I went to CFA and there it was mostly white people, but thatâs also because the area was mostly white. Most of the workers were white also.
Doesnât mean itâs always like that. Itâs about location.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | August 24, 2019 8:17 PM |
Here in Dallas it definitely more white at CFA and black at Popeyes but I think it does depend on location of the city as someone said up thread.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | August 24, 2019 8:22 PM |
In Manhattan you see just as many black people in CFA as White. Sometimes more.
Same with Popeyes.
And the McDonalds in the East Village I went to had white workers.
Times are changing lol.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | August 24, 2019 8:27 PM |
Itâs just marketing. The âLove that chicken at Popeyes!â commercial plays upon the Louisiana roots and has a black southern soul music and soul food vibe.
I also know a lot of black people who love Chick-Fil-A. I think people think of it as white primarily because itâs so politically motivated toward hateful Christianity, which is mostly a white American thing. At least where I live, they also seem to go out of their way to hire white people. Most fast food places Iâve been to have employed primarily immigrants, but Chick-Fil-A always has mormonesque blue-eyed native English speakers working at the drive through.

Can't speak for the whole country but driving around Atlanta today, I passed not just one but two different Popeyes with cars lined up, so much so that one spilled into highway traffic. Is it possible this is over that chicken sandwich? (I was going to stop and try one but clearly no parking and chaos awaited inside, no doubt). It was like Target when Mussoni had its limited time sale.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | August 24, 2019 8:41 PM |
R151 yes itâs for that sandwich. Everyone is going crazy over it. Idk whatâs in it.

by Anonymous | reply 153 | August 24, 2019 8:44 PM |
In Philly, CFA specifically chooses middle class white areas and Popeyes lower middle class black areas. Maybe itâs different elsewhere, but there is an explicit white marketing strategy here.

Love their baked beans too.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | August 24, 2019 8:49 PM |
Ha, ha. Just rode past my local Popeyes and they had a cop out on the highway directing cars in and out of the parking lot. For a damn chicken sandwich!
by Anonymous | reply 159 | August 24, 2019 11:24 PM |
I just had the chicken sandwich because of all this hoopla and its alright. Nothing to fight another person over. Its just a fast food sandwich.
I went to the one in Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, NY. Majority Russian and Jewish neighborhood. The Popeyes clientele was very diverse: Blacks, Whites, Russians, Latinos. The people working in the restaurant seem to be Middle Eastern.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | August 24, 2019 11:32 PM |
R158 - I'm not keen on KFC anymore but their cole slaw is still amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | August 24, 2019 11:33 PM |
R3, Can't see spending $4+ for fast food. That's no longer cheap when you can get a far better meal using coupons at El Pollo Loco. However I'm sure it's better than Mickey D's and the equivalent.
Can't wait for Bojangles to come to other cities as well as the rival spicy chicken places in LA previously described.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | August 24, 2019 11:39 PM |
Last time I ate at KFC, I almost ended up in the hospital with a gall bladder attack. My doc says they fry that chicken in canola oil and it's deadly to some people (I have no trouble with storebought chicken).
Glad to hear I wasn't going crazy. It really was odd how packed E VERY Popeyes was today.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | August 24, 2019 11:40 PM |
Popeyes can get fairly costly for a large group or family. I picked some up last month for a group of five, and even with a coupon special it was not cheap by any means. That's why it's ridiculous to associate them with only poor black neighbourhoods. I find it hard to believe really poor people could afford eating here regularly. Granted, the sandwich is quite reasonably priced. The location I frequent is on Fullerton at Damen, and though the majority who work there are Hispanic and Black, the customers are equally mixed.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | August 24, 2019 11:41 PM |
OTT I know - but can we get a shout out for the chicken at Pollo Loco. Now that is damn good chicken - even if itâs a burrito or soup rather than a sandwich. Now back to the passing obsession with Popeyes.

R163, Many want to try whatever's been over-hyped. Remember the hours long lines for cronuts and the constant shortages?
R163, Wonder if it was the canola oil, the fact that it wasn't sufficiently fresh/clean, or the chemicals added to KFC? It's been years since I've eaten fast-food. I'm tempted by Church's bourbon chicken but they won't list the ingredients. So give me El Pollo Loco and a healthy side for less than $5. Tasty & spicy.

by Anonymous | reply 174 | August 25, 2019 12:12 AM |
If Bojangles opened in places like NYC the quality of the Food wouldnât be the same. Part of why itâs so good is because itâs southern made in the south.

by Anonymous | reply 184 | August 25, 2019 2:07 AM |
Tried both spicy and mild today, purchased from the drive-thru. There was a flyer taped to the board saying that were out, but they did have them. We were the only car in the drive-they lane.
The spicy wasnât spicy, but the aftertaste has a bit of a kick. Pretty mild, though.
The sandwiches were more substantial than CFA. Bigger piece of chicken, thicker coating, larger, less mushy bun (but still similar to the hamburger buns at other fast food restaurants). The chicken was surprisingly juicy, significantly better than CFA, and I like CFA. Even though the coating was thick it didnât overpower the chicken.
The only disappointment was no pickles. I think they really add something to the CFA sandwiches, and would have enhanced the Popeyeâs contender.
9/10

Yeah, mine had pickles as well. Honestly, they could have thrown a fresh leaf o' lettuce on there as well. Maybe some special sauce of some sort.
I honestly don't think I've ever had CFA... ever... and there are a couple around here as well. They're never on my mind whenever I'm in the mood for fast food. Perhaps I should get their sandwich and compare it to Popeyes.

At Chick-fil-a you could only have them God awful waffle fries as a side. At Popeye's a person could have Cajun Rice, Cajun Fries, Mash, coleslaw, mac and cheese as a side. There's nothing hot about Chick-fil-a. I guess they're trying to be the anti-McDonalds, with their "Christian ethic"

R154 Chick-Fil-A only offers francise opportunities to avowed Christian families, and they require the whole family to spend a weekend (a week?) in NC with the family that owns Chick-Fil-A to determine whether they are worthy of selling processed chicken slabs in Jesusâs name. And then they get assigned a location by the company. The company chooses locations, not the franchise owners.

Damn, that sounds great. Now you have me obsessing and no idea where a Church's is in town (but I am in Atlanta so has to be one nearby).
Someone upthread was right, though. Chicken is one of those things that have gotten inexplicably expensive, at least the fast food variety. Bojangles is REALLY pricey for what it is. I love this -- anything to stick it to smug Chick-fil-a assholes. Chick-Fil-A is a dry bun with some pickles. It was crap mall food (only place I ever saw them were big malls as part of the food court) in the 1990s. I'm all in on Popeyes becoming the king of the chicken sandwich.
by Anonymous | reply 270 | August 27, 2019 1:51 AM |
Yes, it is absolutely genius. Conservatives and gays will give themselves coronaries, stuffing themselves with fried food while corporations line their pockets at your expense. You're brilliant.

Check the reviews for Popeyes restaurants. You will see that most are extremely unsanitary with terrible customer service.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | August 27, 2019 2:54 AM |
I finally had the sandwich today... unbelievably good, and I think it's the best. My only regret was I didn't get two. The drive-thru line was long, but worth the wait. I didn't find the spicy version too spicy a bit... and it did have pickles, I asked first!

Review from Popeyes in Hayward, CA: "OK, second time to visit Popeye's....not impressed. If I was a health inspector I would give them points for filthyness. Lobby area counter where you pick up your food was dirty. Drink station had punch drink on counter and on the floor, plus it was sticky and no one seemed to be in a hurry to go out and clean it. Management and their employees were unorganized. Seem to be out of everything I wanted with my meal."
by Anonymous | reply 278 | August 27, 2019 3:43 AM |
Yeah donât know why anyone would eat at a Popeyes as theyve long had a rep in the South as being filthy as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | August 27, 2019 3:45 AM |
R275 I really hope you get to enjoy one soon. The taste is worth the wait. Really thick and juicy.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | August 27, 2019 3:47 AM |
It's not just the south. Popeye's is filthy everywhere. Here's a review from New York: "Less of a review but more of a question really...how do you report a restaurant or food establishment for food poisoning? I came in here last Friday for a late lunch because i work close by and spent Friday night in Brookdale for my troubles, hooked up to tubes on a hospital bed. I would like to repay these fine people for their generosity by contacting the health department about them. "

No, I don't eat at filthy fast food places where the employees treat customers like shit. You do you, though.

I have never been treated badly there R282. But then again, I'm friendly, nice, and sincere. If you were the poster I was replying to, shame on you that you gain so much pleasure in crapping on others' yum. Why even spend time on this thread if you find all this detestable? BTW, I go to Popeye's roughly four or five times a year, and they're always cool.

Please trust me on this: donât eat here or any fast food restaurant!! I worked fast food as a high schooler and it was disgusting. We took shits and didnât wash our hands, came to work sick and touched the food, I even masturbated in the bathroom and wiped my hands on my apron to clean them and went back to the food line! I was probably one of the CLEANEST employees so you can imagine what other guys did.

Popeye's has admitted the sandwich has at least 690 calories but won't say anything about fat, carbs, cholesterol or sodium content. And they haven't posted any of the nutritional info online.
It has at least 1,230 mg of sodium â almost your entire ideal daily allowance.
You bitches who complain that Truvada is destructive to the kidneys need to start advocating against Popeye's whores.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | August 27, 2019 5:25 AM |

OK I finally got to try this today and just got done eating it. I got the spicy. My conclusion: it was very good (Definitely better than that plain shit at Chick-Fil-Ass).

Another shining review from Popeyes:
"The absolute worse customer service... Went there on Sunday at 11:45am they had no fries... no chicken sandwich...no boneless chicken wings... The management sucks and should be fired because how do you not keep up with your food inventory....The two ladies behind the counter where RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL....YES YOUR TIRED BUT YOU SHOWED UP TO WORK SO WORK....people had to wait 30 minutes for their food.... it's called fast food for a reason..."

Years ago, my brother had a Popeye's outlet down the street from his law office. I dropped by there one day to get some papers signed. He asked if I'd had lunch (I had not) and he said, "Let's go to Popeye's." We could see the place was packed before we got inside. He said, "Watch this," as we opened the door. One of the counter women saw him and motioned that he come to the side, bypassing all those who were in line. We ordered and got our chicken in like 2 minutes. Walking back to his office, I said "Do they know you or something?" "Oh yeah," he said. "and I always tip whoever takes my order $5. They fight over me!" Imagine being a big ol' Mr. Man at the Popeye's, but that my brother. I laughed about it all the way back to my office.

I went to Popeye's exactly one time. The food was terrible: chicken was overcooked and the mashed potatoes were mostly water. I don't remember what else I ate. Also, I had to wait a longer time than expected, as they had run out of food. The place closed after a year or two, but I think the landlord may have wanted the building back, as the cellphone store next door also closed.
I have no idea how the customer service is at Chick-Fil-A. I don't go to Chick-Fil-A.
