You Pop-Culture Loving Homosexuals Are Slipping: No Threads About Red, White and Royal Blue
I have to read the Wall Street Journal to learn that a frothy beach read book about the romance between the son of the (female) American president and the Prince of Wales (fictional, not Charles) is a runaway best seller in Fraulund!
Why are you all asleep at the wheel?
We rely on you to keep us up to date on this pop culture crap and you've totally dropped the ball.

I received an ARC of Red White And Royal Blue. Read and forgot it instantly. It's YA primed for a Netflix movie.

This is why Pete will win. He's popular with the women. They love Chasten too.

More neutered-gays light comedy for straights. Hated it. It got massive promotion because it's fluff. Corporate publisher knows how to churn out innocuous drivel.

It reads like BRF fanfic. I would bet you a hundred bucks the author has a Tumblr, or did.

It’s a little raunchy for YA, what with the prince jetting around with travel-size lube in his royal toiletry kit.

Is it like that stupid AnnE Hathaway movie where Julie Andrews was her grandmother? Except AnnE is played by a guy?

R18 Very tame! I am reading the book right now... I could barely figure out the two was fucking and it was over. It's like those rom-com movies where the couple make out a bit and next thing you know they are making post-coital small talk.

The author took her cues from the CMBYN “cut to the window” school of homosex.

It's pure politically correct frau fantasy with the half-Mexican first son, the Mary Stu, topping the big strapping white prince.

r26 Time travelling Tyler Posey and Will Mosely. Other than that I've no idea. Doubt it's going to be a project actors will be kicking the studio door down for. So they'll probably be pretty unknown.

The first son will be played by Noah Centineo. I pictured someone blond as the prince—not anyone famous, but someone as pretty as a young Charlie Hunnam or Alex Prettifer.

For Prince Henry, British actor Harris Dickinson from gay film Beach Rats. He also played the prince in Maleficient 2.

This book SUCKED. The writing is super awkward and there are some very clunky passages and word choices. It almost is like this book was written by auto fill. It is as realistic as Lord of the Rings. And the frauette author insisted on making Alex bisexual which was a joke. He refers to himself as “bi” throughout the book and it’s super irritating. Fiction for total dummies.

R35 She writes about the foreplay but then glosses over the sex act itself by describing how the character feels during the sex instead of the physical sex act itself.

R35 She...tries? There’s a ton of talking dirty and foreplay and maybe a paragraph of not-very-detailed fucking and three pages of them smoking the proverbial cigarette.

Also irritating: The fact that (SPOILER ALERT) he basically gets engaged to the prince at age 21. I don’t care how hot the sex is, that is way fucking young.

Their notoriously aggressive PR campaign included mailed boxes of chocolates, incessant emails and follow-up phone calls, and a flood of online ads and fake social media accounts lavishing praise on it. They also gave away hundreds of ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) to the frau denizens on GoodReads.
Corporate publishers love to promote neutered gay characters penned by women. It's safer than having to deal with gay male authors and ("eww!") actual gay sex scenes. OP is just another tentacle of their sprawling PR campaign.

Is he one of those "I was totally straight until I met the only guy in the world that got me hard" bisexuals or the "I am really gay but can't admit it" bisexuals? The frau really love the first type because the "one true love" myth gets them all wet (plus they secretly hope that hey can land some hot guy someday)...

r58 If that summary is accurate, the plot seems both pedestrian and idiotic - like novel length fan fiction. I chucked at the line about his high school fuckbuddy - "Alex also contacts Liam, his friend from high school with whom he had sexual experiences that he did not understand at the time." - no red flags there...

So, I read a bit of it. I didn't care for the writing style and realized the subject matter is probably not for me. It's certainly better than the little bits I read of Twilight and 50 Shades, but that's not saying a whole lot. If you're looking for some light reading, and enjoy gay romances featuring young adults then it's probably worth looking at the sample on Amazon to see if it's your thing.
