You Pop-Culture Loving Homosexuals Are Slipping: No Threads About Red, White and Royal Blue

I have to read the Wall Street Journal to learn that a frothy beach read book about the romance between the son of the (female) American president and the Prince of Wales (fictional, not Charles) is a runaway best seller in Fraulund!

Why are you all asleep at the wheel?

We rely on you to keep us up to date on this pop culture crap and you've totally dropped the ball.

I received an ARC of Red White And Royal Blue. Read and forgot it instantly. It's YA primed for a Netflix movie.

by Anonymousreply 1August 8, 2019 9:22 PM

Sorry op, only old people read books now.

by Anonymousreply 2August 8, 2019 9:26 PM

And who do you think posts on Datalounge R2?

by Anonymousreply 3August 8, 2019 9:29 PM

This book is aimed at fraus, not gay men, that’s why, OP.

by Anonymousreply 4August 8, 2019 9:36 PM

So was "Queer As Folk" R4, but that certainly gets discussed here enough.

by Anonymousreply 5August 8, 2019 9:43 PM

It's aimed at 19-year-old girls

by Anonymousreply 6August 8, 2019 9:54 PM

I liked it...

by Anonymousreply 7August 19, 2019 8:27 PM

I just finished this book! I really like it!!! Highly recommend.

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2019 1:33 AM

Megan Markle is just a castrating moll just as bad as—

I brought it up in the gay-themed novels thread. It sucks.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2019 1:47 AM

I liked it.

by Anonymousreply 11December 2, 2019 12:15 AM

Which one is the bottom?

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2019 4:31 AM
This book is aimed at fraus, not gay men, that’s why, OP.

This is why Pete will win. He's popular with the women. They love Chasten too.

by Anonymousreply 13December 2, 2019 4:37 AM

More neutered-gays light comedy for straights. Hated it. It got massive promotion because it's fluff. Corporate publisher knows how to churn out innocuous drivel.

by Anonymousreply 14December 2, 2019 6:26 AM

It reads like BRF fanfic. I would bet you a hundred bucks the author has a Tumblr, or did.

by Anonymousreply 15January 20, 2020 9:45 PM
It's YA primed for a Netflix movie.

It’s a little raunchy for YA, what with the prince jetting around with travel-size lube in his royal toiletry kit.

by Anonymousreply 16January 20, 2020 9:47 PM

Is it like that stupid AnnE Hathaway movie where Julie Andrews was her grandmother? Except AnnE is played by a guy?

by Anonymousreply 17January 20, 2020 9:48 PM

How are the sex passages?

by Anonymousreply 18January 20, 2020 9:52 PM

Kind of, R17, but with more parental involvement.

by Anonymousreply 19January 20, 2020 9:52 PM

written by a frauette

by Anonymousreply 20January 20, 2020 9:53 PM

R18 Very tame! I am reading the book right now... I could barely figure out the two was fucking and it was over. It's like those rom-com movies where the couple make out a bit and next thing you know they are making post-coital small talk.

by Anonymousreply 21January 20, 2020 9:57 PM

The author took her cues from the CMBYN “cut to the window” school of homosex.

by Anonymousreply 22January 20, 2020 9:59 PM

It's pure politically correct frau fantasy with the half-Mexican first son, the Mary Stu, topping the big strapping white prince.

by Anonymousreply 23January 20, 2020 10:03 PM
written by a frauette

That didn't stop DL orgasaming over Brokeback Mountain.

r1 Apparently Amazon already bought the rights.

Who do we think will be cast in this thing?

by Anonymousreply 26January 20, 2020 10:50 PM

r26 Time travelling Tyler Posey and Will Mosely. Other than that I've no idea. Doubt it's going to be a project actors will be kicking the studio door down for. So they'll probably be pretty unknown.

by Anonymousreply 27January 20, 2020 11:05 PM

The first son will be played by Noah Centineo. I pictured someone blond as the prince—not anyone famous, but someone as pretty as a young Charlie Hunnam or Alex Prettifer.

Per her bio she’s bisexual/genderfluid. Or she claims.

by Anonymousreply 29January 20, 2020 11:22 PM

Don't think I've ever seen that particular pronoun combo before.

Froy Gutierrez for half-Mexican Alex!

by Anonymousreply 31January 20, 2020 11:35 PM

Little Charlie Stemp will play the British prince. It's time for him to become a breakout star.

For Prince Henry, British actor Harris Dickinson from gay film Beach Rats. He also played the prince in Maleficient 2.

by Anonymousreply 33January 21, 2020 12:15 AM

This book SUCKED. The writing is super awkward and there are some very clunky passages and word choices. It almost is like this book was written by auto fill. It is as realistic as Lord of the Rings. And the frauette author insisted on making Alex bisexual which was a joke. He refers to himself as “bi” throughout the book and it’s super irritating. Fiction for total dummies.

by Anonymousreply 34January 21, 2020 12:28 AM

Does she try to write them fucking or is it just a literary "camera pans to open window" ?

by Anonymousreply 35January 21, 2020 1:13 AM

R33 Harris is delicious

by Anonymousreply 36January 21, 2020 1:14 AM

R35 She writes about the foreplay but then glosses over the sex act itself by describing how the character feels during the sex instead of the physical sex act itself.

by Anonymousreply 37January 21, 2020 1:30 AM

R35 She...tries? There’s a ton of talking dirty and foreplay and maybe a paragraph of not-very-detailed fucking and three pages of them smoking the proverbial cigarette.

by Anonymousreply 38January 21, 2020 1:30 AM

Great minds, R37.

by Anonymousreply 39January 21, 2020 1:30 AM
He refers to himself as “bi” throughout the book and it’s super irritating.

Also irritating: The fact that (SPOILER ALERT) he basically gets engaged to the prince at age 21. I don’t care how hot the sex is, that is way fucking young.

by Anonymousreply 40January 21, 2020 1:33 AM

Five and a half months after my original post, I am getting some answers, lol.

Not surprised that the book is James Patterson novel-level awful. Most "beach reads" are.

by Anonymousreply 41January 21, 2020 1:35 AM
he basically gets engaged to the prince at age 21. I don’t care how hot the sex is, that is way fucking young.

You mean too OLD, right?

by Anonymousreply 42January 21, 2020 1:35 AM

The most over-hyped piece of tripe since goat milk soap.

Nothing is [italic]that[/italic] bad.

by Anonymousreply 44January 21, 2020 4:01 AM

The prince is a thinly disguised, better-looking gay Prince Harry.

Best books of 2019? Really, VF?

Let me guess who will be in bed with the film version’s publicity team.

Their notoriously aggressive PR campaign included mailed boxes of chocolates, incessant emails and follow-up phone calls, and a flood of online ads and fake social media accounts lavishing praise on it. They also gave away hundreds of ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) to the frau denizens on GoodReads.

Corporate publishers love to promote neutered gay characters penned by women. It's safer than having to deal with gay male authors and ("eww!") actual gay sex scenes. OP is just another tentacle of their sprawling PR campaign.

by Anonymousreply 47January 21, 2020 6:43 PM

I'd prefer George MacKay as the prince.

by Anonymousreply 48January 21, 2020 9:50 PM

R48 He looks like an anorexic Ron Weasley.

by Anonymousreply 49January 21, 2020 10:51 PM

Well, if you want somebody with some meat on him, there's MacKay's 1917 co-star, Dean-Charles Chapman.

After 400+ pages, we never even find out if the boys are cut or uncut...

by Anonymousreply 51January 22, 2020 1:36 AM

Is he one of those "I was totally straight until I met the only guy in the world that got me hard" bisexuals or the "I am really gay but can't admit it" bisexuals? The frau really love the first type because the "one true love" myth gets them all wet (plus they secretly hope that hey can land some hot guy someday)...

by Anonymousreply 52January 22, 2020 4:23 AM

You have odd tastes YMF.

by Anonymousreply 53January 22, 2020 4:57 AM
Is he one of those "I was totally straight until I met the only guy in the world that got me hard" bisexuals

Ding ding ding. Plus he spends his high school days banging his best friend and yet somehow thinks he’s still straight.

by Anonymousreply 54January 22, 2020 12:13 PM
Henry Fox-Montchristen-Windsor

r45 Thinly disguised is right.

by Anonymousreply 55January 22, 2020 1:18 PM

Isn’t Harry’s given name Henry?

by Anonymousreply 56January 22, 2020 2:45 PM

I picked the book up while browsing the gay fiction section. It sounded interesting, but I had no idea it was any kind of big hit with women.

by Anonymousreply 57January 22, 2020 3:09 PM

Fan-made wiki that includes a (poorly written) plot summary.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 58January 22, 2020 4:08 PM

r56 Henry Charles Albert David.

by Anonymousreply 59January 22, 2020 4:32 PM

These days in publishing , only the worst shits float.

by Anonymousreply 60January 22, 2020 10:18 PM

r58 If that summary is accurate, the plot seems both pedestrian and idiotic - like novel length fan fiction. I chucked at the line about his high school fuckbuddy - "Alex also contacts Liam, his friend from high school with whom he had sexual experiences that he did not understand at the time." - no red flags there...

by Anonymousreply 61January 23, 2020 4:42 PM

R61 Novel-length fanfiction is exactly what this is.

by Anonymousreply 62January 23, 2020 9:44 PM

Actually, it is like a fanfic inspired by a crossover of Madame Secretary and The Royals (that E! series). Her understanding of how the White House and the Royal Family work seems to come from watching TV shows anyway! LOL

by Anonymousreply 63January 23, 2020 10:21 PM

So, I read a bit of it. I didn't care for the writing style and realized the subject matter is probably not for me. It's certainly better than the little bits I read of Twilight and 50 Shades, but that's not saying a whole lot. If you're looking for some light reading, and enjoy gay romances featuring young adults then it's probably worth looking at the sample on Amazon to see if it's your thing.

by Anonymousreply 64January 24, 2020 3:50 PM

I’m a frau and it’s not on my radar. Not even my sister in law talked about it. She’s on some other book, some woke thing.

by Anonymousreply 65January 24, 2020 4:49 PM

Actually this type of overly sweet rom-com novel appeals more to fangurls. Fraus into the m/m genre would want more hardcore stuff.

by Anonymousreply 66January 24, 2020 9:35 PM

Fangurls of whom?

by Anonymousreply 67January 24, 2020 9:48 PM

Fangurls of "cute boys in love" wherever they could find them in tv shows, movies, books, real life... The fangurls are even writing fanfics of this novel.

by Anonymousreply 68January 24, 2020 10:12 PM

R66, most fraus aren't into "hardcore" - their idea if hardcore is Fifty Shades of Grey
