Women back to playing hookers and strippers. Thanks #MeToo.

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2019 7:51 PM

Hated It!

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2019 7:52 PM

Golly, how empowering!

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2019 10:54 PM

I hope it's better than Striptease.

Cardi B is only 26, but that body looks 46.

So, the film premiered in Toronto on Saturday and is, apparently, earning rave reviews -- especially for writer-director Lorene Scafaria and, most surprisingly, J-Lo. Like, J-Lo, that wooden actress, is already getting Oscars buzz. I mean, I'll believe it when I see it, but I always like it when someone under-estimated surprises everyone with a strong performance.

I just saw someone who saw it say it’s the best performance J Lo has given. Out of Sight what? This was her best easily.

by Anonymousreply 8September 8, 2019 8:56 PM

Who's the shill? Can't think of anything being released this year that I wouldn't rather see.

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2019 9:15 PM

Damning with faint praise.

by Anonymousreply 10September 8, 2019 9:16 PM

Yea, interesting to see it's getting raves at TIFF and Oscar talk for JLo. And it's tracking to be a box-office hit as well. I also thought it's just gonna be another Showgirl - just like most thought last year's A star is Born is gonna be Glitter.

I automatically dislike people who type the verb "dropped" in relation to show biz.

by Anonymousreply 12September 8, 2019 9:47 PM

Julia Stiles?

Seriously, one of these things is not like the other.

by Anonymousreply 13September 8, 2019 11:23 PM

Whats wrong with Julia Stiles?

by Anonymousreply 14September 8, 2019 11:26 PM

I just bought my ticket for Thursday night

by Anonymousreply 15September 9, 2019 2:32 AM

Looks like 'claws'? Not interested.

by Anonymousreply 16September 9, 2019 2:48 AM

R7 I didn't know Lorene wrote and directed this movie. Good for her. I liked The Meddler and for a hot second she dated Adam Brody.

by Anonymousreply 17September 9, 2019 3:39 AM

zzzzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 18September 9, 2019 3:41 AM

Well then, pick it up!

by Anonymousreply 19September 9, 2019 4:30 AM

Theaters are adding showtimes because it’s selling out for Thursday night

by Anonymousreply 20September 10, 2019 8:00 PM

Looks like its going to be a hit, and JLo is getting all the praise meaning she will be hitting the pr circuit non-effing-stop for the next four months until she earns a god-awful supporting nom.

The other surprise performance coming out of TIFF is -get ready....Adam Sandler in the Uncut Gems, the Safdie Brothers' latest. "Performance of his career" - not sure what that means, given what he's done so far but hey.

by Anonymousreply 21September 10, 2019 8:05 PM

I thought people said Constance Wu's career was over?

by Anonymousreply 22September 10, 2019 8:08 PM

Yes there is a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding J Lo and Adam Sandler right now.

by Anonymousreply 23September 10, 2019 8:08 PM

It just seems a little too close to home for Cardi B to be playing a stripper when she just recently admitted to drugging and robbing her johns back when she was a real life stripper.

The theater near me in Brooklyn had a 7 on and 9:50 showtime. They added two more shows now.

The one I’m going to in Manhattan had two showings also and now added 3 more for Thursday night.

R24. Everyone has a past. She’s honest about it. Let’s move on.

by Anonymousreply 26September 10, 2019 8:10 PM

R24 maybe that's why she got the role.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2019 2:25 AM

True, but that would be like giving Danny Masterson a role as a rapist.

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2019 1:42 PM

R28 hopefully no one in Hollywood is that stupid.

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2019 2:21 PM

The trailer makes it look awful.

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2019 2:24 PM

The Guardian's doesn't even recognize Julia Stiles' existence. Which role she plays?

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2019 2:41 PM

Its a movie women want to watch with their friends and a movie guys wouldn't mind getting dragged to by their partner. Also the slutty girls and the girls who want to be slutty will want to see. So I see it doing fairly well.

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2019 2:42 PM

r31, Stiles plays the cop investigating the gang.
