12 leading philosophers sign letter that says no scholars should be sanctioned for their intellectual positions on sex or gender

The 12 philosophers include some of the famous alive today, such as Princeton's Peter Singer; they explicitly state that they affirm the right of trans people to live free of abuse and harassment, but reject calls for de-platforming or censuring scholars who do not adhere to a party line with regard to philosophical arguments regarding sex or gender.

There are many statements of support for this in the comments, but, unsurprisingly, some SJWs are furious there too, and feel trans people are being [italic]erased[/italic] even by such a letter.

Humorously, we currently have an active DL thread on 1984.

Their entire playbook is drawn almost directly from the book - from rewriting history (Stonewall) to control of language to permissible thoughts and ideas.

This all started when a grad student at Santa Barbara was being targeted by SJWs for espousing views on sex and gender they did not consider progressive enough; there was even an entire protest raised against her and student petitions denouncing her.

In other words lazy professors don't want to get fired so they want everyone to respect their asshattery.

There is a wide difference between scholarly debate and dubious science.

There is a wide difference between recognized scholars in art, literature, philosophy, and history who have demonstrated significant academic scholarship on topics and arrivistes whose entire argument is based on their feelings and how various discussions make them feel.

Academia should not be a platform for asshattery. It should be a platform to have wide ranging discussion and debate. If people are not made uncomfortable, then the discussion hasn't gone nearly far enough. If the entire discussion merely reflects what you already think or think you know, then it's worthless.
