Tommy Robinson ‘decked in showers’ by Old Age Pensioner on first day in prison

TOMMY Robinson was punched in the face by a 70-year-old on his first day in prison, the Daily Star Sunday can reveal.

The “altercation” occurred in the showers inside Belmarsh top-security prison hours after the former English Defence League leader was jailed for contempt of court.

The alleged incident was not recorded as an assault because it was only witnessed by inmates.

Sources have said that Robinson strutted into prison acting “like a celebrity” but was soon being abused by white, black and Asian inmates.

He had previously claimed that he would be killed in jail and called on US President Donald Trump to offer him asylum.

But sources last night said that Robinson, 36, was not punched because he was a far-right activist but was “decked” for trying to throw his weight around.

The altercation took place within 72 hours of his arrival in the south-east London jail, 10 days ago.

It is understood that Robinson accused another inmate of “disrespecting” him when they bumped into each other in the shower block.

He is said to have tried to intimidate the pensioner who responded by dropping him with a single punch.

A source said: “There was a bit of pushing then one prisoner, a 70-year-old, very hard pensioner, decked Robinson with a punch to the jaw.

“He didn’t have any idea who he had hit, but he wasn’t going to back down. Those are the rules in Belmarsh, you fight or back down.

“It was all over in a flash. One of the prison officers asked what was going on, but he said he slipped so no official report was made.

“If you start acting as though you are big-time, someone will take you down. If you come into the prison and start acting like you are the boss they will take you down quickly.”

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been earmarked as a special category prisoner because of his extremist views. He was jailed for nine months at the Old Bailey after he filmed defendants outside Leeds Crown Court during a trial into the sexual exploitation of girls.

It breached a reporting restriction and put in jeopardy other child grooming trials. His videos were seen 3.4million times but there was a ban on publicising any details because there were other ongoing trials that involved a total of 29 people.

The Ministry of Justice said: “We do not comment on individuals.”

I wonder if Boris will advocate for him.
