The walls looked singed and dirty.

Were they supposed to live in Purchase? That's pretty upscale.

I think it was supposed to look antiqued or rustic.

According to Betty Ramsey it was an early American house. She wanted to furnish it with early American furniture, whilst Lucy wanted Chinese modern.

Westport is growing so fast that someday it might become two cities like MinniePaul or Saint Appolis

That shithole was gross.
I remember right before they left NYC they announced they had been living in their apartment for x amount of years forgetting that they only moved into it two years before and the grand total of airtime given to the bigger apartment was one season and a half.

It was only a "dump" after I rented it out

As a child, I summered in Westport.

All the Ethan Allen furniture is pretty dreary, but the actual room design is pretty detailed and charming for a 50s sitcom.

It was Westport, which was probably “country” at the time. As a kid in the 70s, it was charming and old money, with a smattering of artsy types. It was weird to think of the Ricardos there.

Westport went downhill when they started to let "show people" in.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 23, 2019 4:46 PM |
Early American furniture really should make a comeback.

It always bothered that such a big old house had no formal dining room. I mean, they had a den and a two story guesthouse for the Mertzes to live in but not a separate dining room? How embarrassing must it have been to have Tallulah Bankhead over for dinner and have to eat right next to the couch. What was the point of even pretending to have a “couple”?

At least Joan Crawford never visited !!
