Dershowitz writes panicky op-ed in anticipation of a New Yorker ‘hit piece’ about him and underage girls
by Anonymous | reply 112 | August 3, 2019 10:53 PM |
When does the New Yorker piece come out and who is the author?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 20, 2019 1:43 AM |
The link is to an article that just transcribes what he said to Laura Ingraham last week, it's on youtube, there is no news here, and nothing in the linked article about any forthcoming New Yorker "hit piece." OP is doing some kind of disinformation.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 20, 2019 1:59 AM |
Ok, thanks, r3!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 20, 2019 2:16 AM |
For some reason DL doesn’t like rawstory links.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 20, 2019 2:20 AM |
I hate to give them clicks, but in this case it's best to read the original Dersh op-ed on the loathesome Newsmax site—it is in fact very panicky and slightly frantic and constantly equating "Netanyahu, Israel, and Trump" as all under attack by evildoers like David Remnick. And attacking Dersh himself, most of all, because he defends Netanyahu, Israel, and Trump. The repetition is hypnotic, and he seems unhinged and genuinely fearful. Read the original and smell his PANIC

Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Alan Dershowitz, Woody Allen, 'Sir' Philip Green. Is there a pattern here?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 20, 2019 3:15 AM |
Except for Green, they all come from New York.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 20, 2019 3:24 AM |
He says the accusations are due to his support of Trump and Israel. He does seem panicked .
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 20, 2019 3:39 AM |
you're skatin' on thin fuckin' ice, r7 Yes, there is a pattern: men abusing their power to get sex. Let's add Charlie Rose, Bill O'Reilly, R. Kelly, Jimmy Swaggart, Denny Hastert, and Jerry Sandusky to the list.

Everyone has their own version of perfect. Perfect to the dershowitz's is where he rapes sex trafficked girls and she ignores it
Ain't love grand?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 20, 2019 4:28 AM |
The truth us Dershowitz has a fetish for shoving his smegma-encrusted 80-year-old cock into childrens' vaginas.

by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 20, 2019 7:06 PM |
I don’t know what would be worse - if all these rich pedophiles and abusers of young women were part of some grand conspiracy like the nuts believe, or if it’s just *that* common among men in power to openly abuse children and teenagers and get away with it. It’s so goddamn disturbing.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 20, 2019 7:10 PM |
Connie Bruck’s husband is a prominent partner at Gibson Dunn. Not that Remnick will be short on legal firepower, but Bruck will be well protected against Dersh and won’t be making any legal errors. And one of her first books was about Milken and the junk bond crisis, so I bet she’ll have more insight into Epstein’s financial mysteries during that period.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 20, 2019 7:14 PM |
Epstein was paying "his girls" to have sex with those men so he could have kompromat on them. This story seems pretty sui generis, so I don't think it can be used as proof that there's already a child abuse culture among billionaires and the ultra-powerful. It does, however, suggest that such culture could be established with time and with a little more impunity.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 20, 2019 7:16 PM |
Did Dersh believe shaving off his moustache would make him more attractive?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 20, 2019 8:42 PM |
So all along he has been sticking up for Trump, because the lawyer is guilty...I knew it had to be something.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 20, 2019 8:47 PM |
Those poor girls, Dersh is probably hung like a squirrel! I cannot imagine having Alan Dershowitz as a sex partner. It would be life altering.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 21, 2019 3:23 AM |
"It would be life altering" -- I really doubt that, r39, though I'm sure that's what the Dersh wants you to think. Once you talked about it, it would become life-altering

by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 21, 2019 6:24 AM |
Steven Pinker? Any hard evidence on that?
If it's true, with his interest in evolutionary psychology I'm sure he could justify his attraction to nubile young females, too.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 21, 2019 7:04 AM |
Pinker traveled on the Lolita Express, too. And he was an expert witness or whatever it's called for Epstein's defense in 2007.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 21, 2019 7:07 AM |
Trump is linked to these statutory rapes, too. That's why he got into pageants.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 21, 2019 7:08 AM |
I'm actually sad to see Dersh getting crushed in all this, I admired him very much at one time. He's been on a downward trajectory for years now and it shows no signs of slowing down or stopping.
This is entirely of his own making and was avoidable. He has destroyed a brilliant career.

[quote] In the op-ed, Dershowitz accuses New Yorker editor David Remnick of commissioning “a hit piece against me for the explicit purpose of silencing my defense of President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the State of Israel.”
[quote] Dershowitz then claims, without offering any evidence, that “Remnick explicitly told people that I must be silenced because mine has been the most persuasive voice in favor of what Remnick feels pose dangers to values he holds dear, and that he will use the credibility of The New Yorker to accomplish this goal.”
[quote] “Remember that you are not reading The New Yorker of old that had well-earned credibility. You are reading a glossy version of the National Enquirer, with partisan and personal agendas.”
[quote] Dershowitz’s op-ed concludes by warning his supporters to not believe anything written about him whenever the story is finally published.
Oooh... Los Espookys!
The man is unhinged. Decent people must be shunning him on the Vineyard even more this season. I do love it when these traitor-defending cunts panic and get all freaky-scared in public. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

It seems the piece is not quite about the accusations against him, it's more about his record defending people accused of statutory rape and his belief that sex with 15 yos should always be legal.
The pro-Palestinian website Electronic Intifada had already discussed all of that in 2015.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 29, 2019 4:10 PM |

I suspect he'd be first in line to changing the age of consent to 15, except for those nasty homosexuals, where he'd probably insist that both parties be 25. Biologically, people of both sexes are ready for sex at age 13 or so. But sex is a lot more than the mechanics. Of course there are 15 year olds mature enough to have consensual sex. However, there are also many that are not (probably the vast majority). Therefore, the law has typically taken the view that it's best to find an age where most people are mature enough to handle it. I've never felt that it was fair or served justice to put an 18 year old boy in prison for fucking a 16 year old girl. On the other hand, putting a 50 year old in prison for fucking a 14 year old girl? - divine justice. Our country is strange in that this issue varies from state to state. Dersh is a creep, and I suspect he has indeed had sex with an underage girl at some point or other.

The New Yorker article is basically an account of all his unsubstantiated accusations of lying, bad parenting, and other misdeeds against people who have accused him, along with documentation of his own prevarications and stretchings of the truth. I guess for him a good offense is the best defense, but we'll see how far that gets him in the end.

Dersh was overly obsessed with rape cases at Harvard...
[quote]Dershowitz’s treatment of rape cases caused some former students concern
[quote] A former Harvard student told Bruck that in class, “He had convoluted ways of thinking about how men could misinterpret lack of consent. And it wasn’t relegated to when we were speaking about a rape case. Wherever we were on the syllabus, he would bring it up.”
[quote]Another student said that at one point, a female classmate “raised her hand and said, essentially, O.K., enough rape examples! There are women in this class who have been raped. Can we move on to something else?”
[quote]“If students were afraid to challenge orthodoxies,” he said, he would have to do it himself. He added that he also brought in prosecutors who handled rape cases, to present their expertise.

by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 2, 2019 8:39 AM |
Dershowitz's former student-turned-Washington Post columnist is onto him...
[quote]Case in point: a 1997 op-ed, in which Dershowitz suggests the age for statutory rape could be lowered, ideally to 15.... True, he wrote the essay 22 years ago, but Dershowitz clarified on Twitter this week that he stands by his argument, which he calls “constitutional (not moral).”
[quote]The op-ed is part of a pattern Dershowitz has used to cloak his words and deeds in philosophy, as if we were all playing around with hypotheticals in class. Sometimes, the aim is to challenge people’s thinking: “I’m an intellectual provocateur,” Dershowitz told me. Other times, it’s something bigger and better than that: to safeguard civil liberties, the core of Dershowitz’s lifelong campaign.
[quote]Maybe this calling means writing alarming columns that promote the prosecution of prostitutes but not johns, a position Dershowitz says he has since rethought. Maybe it means going on channel after channel as a volunteer lackey for Trump.
[quote]Maybe it means defending Epstein in court, as Dershowitz did when the feds first knocked in 2005. Dershowitz famously has represented accused rapists and wife-killers aplenty, justifying this personal speciality by stressing that everyone deserves a defense. He takes the principle to the extreme, almost as if he were seeking out clients each more odious than the last.
[quote]Really, each of these things is as much of a moral matter as those we once mulled over as first-year students. In fact, they raise more serious questions of ethical conduct than whether you’d theoretically push a man over a bridge to stop a trolley from killing five innocent kids. Because life is not a college seminar.
[quote]Principles are important, but they can also be a distancing mechanism that permits us to maintain an aura of rectitude even as we go around behaving in ways that aren’t right at all. They can allow us to absolve ourselves for our actions by claiming they’re in service of some metaphysical lodestar that supersedes any effect on real people in real life. Sometimes, we’re simply wrong — not just constitutionally, or legally, but ethically, too.
[quote]You can make a convoluted argument that investigations of the president constitute irresponsible congressional overreach, but contorting the Constitution is your choice, and the consequences to the country of your contortion are yours to own, too.
[quote]Everyone deserves a defense, but lawyers in private practice choose their clients — and putting a particular focus on championing those Dershowitz calls the “most unpopular, most despised” requires grappling with what it means for victims when an abuser ends up with a cozy plea deal. When the alleged abuser is your friend Jeffrey, whose case you could have avoided precisely because you have a personal relationship, that grappling is even more difficult.
[quote]Now the defense lawyer is defending himself, and the jury needs instructions. There’s an answer to the question none of us students could reach all those years ago: Your morality comes from what you do.
