r84 in the games has has some pretty powerful magic called "signs" which allow him to knock back enemies, control thoughts of another, set things on fire (Igni), etc. In the books he has signs but they aren't as powerful and I don't think he has the mind control one. The real powerful magic in the show is from the sorceresses (all of the women characters in the trailer I think), all of whom are conflicted and similar in deed and action to faeries in that they're neither good nor evil but self-interested and fickle.

The Geralt in this show sounds like it's supposed to be a younger Geralt. If they could just fix his weird looking hair it'd be even better.

There was a monster in the trailer that looked pretty good. Some of the monsters in the games are frightening as hell. I think a lot of them are drawn from folklore. I've never read the books, just played the second and third games.

Grace Randolph was spot on when she said it looks like The Shannara Chronicles, which didn't last past two seasons. It does look cheap. If I didn't know that it was produced by Netflix, I would've assumed that it was a SyFy channel show. I realize genre fans are looking for their next Game of Thrones, but I'm not sure this will be it. We may have to wait until Amazon releases their adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.

I've always thought that Cavill was miscast in the role of Geralt. You want someone like a younger Dougray Scott or younger Stuart Townsend - a little rougher, a little more dangerous. If you really wanted to go older, Mads or Anson Mount would work. Of course, DL favs Richard Armitage or Luke Evans might do in a pinch.

I wonder if this trite will be more boring than the game's endless contrived cinematics. Whoever wrote those games have zero sense of narrative and storytelling (or maybe the books are just as cliche and boring).

It's strange -Netflix and Amazon (and likely the other streaming channels) are basically throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks, if anything. Even a failure would draw an initial audience from both existing and new subscribers.

This isn't a video game, it is trying to make a compelling TV drama. It's not like Geralt is going anywhere, it just sounds like the TV show is an ensemble story.
