I believe the cover story, "Hollywood's Most Powerful Women" (1986), focused on women who were not only acting in films, but also producing and directing. All five women had their own production companies and were calling the shots. Jessica had produced Country; Sally, Murphy's Romance; Goldie, Protocol, Wildcats; Jane, China Syndrome, 9 to 5, On Golden Pond; and Barbra, A Star is Born, The Main Event, Yentl (Produced & Directed). Meryl hadn't produced or executive produced anything yet, and Glenn was a year away from her breakthrough film to have any real power.

Probably the judges just wanted to catch a glimpse of 1980s Sam Shepard. Jessica was the only one getting quality dick during that time.
