The Harder They Come the Harder They Fall: Beto O’Rourke Campaign Reportedly Going Broke

Is Beto going broke?

According to a report from the Daily Beast, the Beto O’Rourke campaign had a brutal second quarter of fundraising — posting a meager $3.6 million. To put that figure in perspective, the first 18 days of the campaign resulted in a haul nearly triple that — $9.3 million.

In a statement published by the Beast, O’Rourke campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon didn’t even seem to try to sugarcoat the dismal figures.

“We always need more [money], but we have enough to execute our strategy —- for now,” O’Malley Dillon said in the statement.

The O’Rourke campaign got off to a rocky start earlier this year with the candidate coming under for saying he was “born” to run for president in a splashy rollout feature published by Vanity Fair. Since then, the former congressman from Texas — who lost narrowly to Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 — has been struggling to gain momentum in the polls, with most showing him hovering near the two percent mark.

In related news Marianne Williamson Polling Ahead Of Beto O’ Rourke, Corey Booker, And Kirsten Gillibrand In New Hampshire

The poll, released Monday from Saint Anselm College, shows that failed senate candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke’s support has vanished even though he began his campaign with media adoration. Since then, O’Rourke has apologized for various so-called transgressions, such as a joke about his marriage and his “white privilege.” Now he’s announcing that he and his wife are both descendants of slave owners as if that would help his campaign. So, it should come as no surprise that O’Rourke didn’t even register on the school’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics poll. He also had the second lowest approval rating (29.8%) despite having one of the highest name recognition scores (90.9%).

Following her odd-but-meme-worthy debate performance, self-help guru Marianne Williamson is now polling ahead of O’Rourke and other well-known candidates.

Will the $3.6mil be enough for this dumbass to buy a clue? If he's not going to drop out, he needs to shut his flapping gums. Shutting up would keep him from saying stupid shit and hide his horse teeth, too.

by Anonymousreply 1July 17, 2019 3:22 AM

Delicious! I don't hate beto or anything like that, I just think he's dumb and too woke by half. This quote:

[quote]Now he’s announcing that he and his wife are both descendants of slave owners as if that would help his campaign.

is especially demonstrative of why he's both an idiot and politically incompetent. No thanks. I also love that Marianne "crystal power is real" Williamson is polling ahead of beto, corey "I'm a phony, and not even a good phony" booker and kirsten "al franken says hello" gillibrand. I hope these trolls see the writing on the wall and do the right thing by getting the fuck out of a race they don't belong in.

by Anonymousreply 2July 17, 2019 3:27 AM

I suspect he'll drop out soon and switch from politics to media: he loves the spotlight, looks good on TV, and can happily yatter away there.

by Anonymousreply 3July 17, 2019 3:30 AM

I can't imagine him being disiplined enough a talking head to stay on topic, though, R3. He might have no problem getting hired as a consultant for a news network but no one is going to want to hear him ramble about where his dress socks are made or the life story of the fella he buys his wild-caught tunafish lunch sandwich from, instead of commentating on political issues.

He should do runway work or porn.

by Anonymousreply 4July 17, 2019 3:48 AM

His senate run burned $80 million. Has his presidential run brought that up to $100 million yet?

by Anonymousreply 5July 17, 2019 3:59 AM

He should never have left Texas politics. He needs to drop out and make another Senate run in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 6July 17, 2019 5:10 AM

Por favor dame dinero.

He seriously needs to just call it a day and give up.

by Anonymousreply 8July 17, 2019 6:09 AM

He should quit and start a lucrative escorting business. I'd like to see how hard they come!

by Anonymousreply 9July 17, 2019 6:38 AM

Good! He was a completely unsuitable candidate.

by Anonymousreply 10July 17, 2019 6:41 AM

Of course he shouldn't drop out until after the 2nd debate. Get that exposure and file for the Senate in September. If losers like Inslee and Booker are still in the race, then Beto should definitely stick around to see what takes place in the second debate. One or two of the top five is bound to crack, Beto is pretty much sitting in 8th place. Still good enough to squeeze some more soundbites before switching to the Senate race.

by Anonymousreply 11July 17, 2019 6:42 AM

He needs to move in with Ethel The Nosepicker.

by Anonymousreply 12July 17, 2019 6:43 AM

He's wishing his slave-holding ancestors had kept some of their wealth in gold instead of slaves. The only people who should be criticized and made fun of regarding his campaign are the rubes who ever supported a looney tunes in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 13July 17, 2019 6:45 AM

[quote]who ever supported a looney tunes in the first place.

in other words you. R13 are you having buyer's remorse ??

by Anonymousreply 14July 17, 2019 6:50 AM

All he needs is a ReeeeeeeLaunch!

by Anonymousreply 15July 17, 2019 7:18 AM

Forget about the campaign what we need now is more Peto fanfic stories ( with Kamala in the background off course )

by Anonymousreply 16July 17, 2019 11:27 AM

He should’ve run against Cornyn, which could have built a blue wave in TX and might have swung the POTUS vote there. Selfish.

by Anonymousreply 17July 17, 2019 11:29 AM

Mainstream media has drawn a target on Beto's back. The real question is: why?

[quote] Beto's second-quarter fundraising was near the TOP of the second tier of candidates—HIGHER than expected, given media reports of his campaign's demise. But no outlets will report it that way. So let's sit back and enjoy media coverage deciding the primary.

More facts that DL may find hard to handle. The truth is that not all candidates can be BFFs with Zuckerberg and the tech bro set; that doesn't mean doom is around the corner.

You can always start a Go Fund Me, Beto.

It works for me.

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2019 12:52 PM

R20 Exactly. DL needs to stop uncritically swallowing articles like OP's.

by Anonymousreply 22July 17, 2019 1:30 PM

He should have run for Senator for Texas or Gov. The jump to President was too much for him, unlike Buttagieg

by Anonymousreply 23July 17, 2019 1:44 PM

So much for the Vanity Fair cover story

by Anonymousreply 24July 17, 2019 1:51 PM

OP, are you here to promote your own shitty article?

by Anonymousreply 25July 17, 2019 1:58 PM

[quote]unlike Buttagieg

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 26July 17, 2019 2:01 PM

I can see why he ran. He got a lot of exposure after giving Cruz such a good fight. When you've got traction you put it to use. I'm not a supporter, personally, but I don't have anything against the guy. It's built on his recognition nationally. If a democrat wins in 2020 he may be in line for a cabinet position. He needs to stay afloat a bit longer though.

by Anonymousreply 27July 17, 2019 2:14 PM

Beto needed to run against Cornyn in 2020 instead of trying for president. Hopefully he still can, if this hasn't hurt his standing too much.

by Anonymousreply 28July 17, 2019 2:29 PM

He reminded me of crazy Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s sofa when I first saw him jumping on tables and flailing those windmill arms all over the place. Then his angsty road trip to ‘find himself’ or whatever after he lost the senate race in TX, cause he was “in a funk” sealed the deal for me that he was just a self-indulgent flake.

by Anonymousreply 29July 17, 2019 2:55 PM

R24 “Man, I’m just born to be in it” didn’t help either.

by Anonymousreply 30July 17, 2019 2:59 PM

R28 Serious question: Why doesn't anyone tell Pete to drop out and run for lower office to help turn the midwest blue? He'll never get the black or Latino vote, there's no way he'll be the nominee. Only Beto gets this treatment.

by Anonymousreply 31July 17, 2019 3:01 PM

If even Marianne Williamson is polling ahead of Beto then that's pretty bad for him.

by Anonymousreply 32July 17, 2019 3:02 PM

R31 Get lost tiresome troll.

by Anonymousreply 33July 17, 2019 3:03 PM

Many here on DL fell for his lame stunt of a campaign mainly because they thought him to be hot and wanted to either blow him or fuck him. Then Pete had a resurgence while Beto showed himself to be the dim, try-too-hard to be cool lightweight propped up by Vanity Fair and assorted glam-political types. RIP Beto and please don’t be resurrected anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 34July 17, 2019 3:03 PM

R31: Because the one poll from earlier this year had Beto beating fatass John Cornhole for his Senate seat. That's why. The potential was THERE. Might still be. Buttigieg has no poll showing anything of the sort, not for Senator, Governor or Congress. He's running for President cause there is nowhere else for him to go in Indiana. That's the difference.

by Anonymousreply 35July 17, 2019 3:07 PM

I hope he goes back to Texas and works his way into a leadership position in the Democratic Party there. The demographics in TX are unsustainable for the GOP. In fact, they're unsustainable nationwide which has led them to even more dirty tricks thanks to Citizens United and the Photo ID nonsense in states they control.

by Anonymousreply 36July 17, 2019 3:57 PM

Haha, Beto keeps on flopping like Christina Aguilera and I love it.

by Anonymousreply 37July 17, 2019 4:16 PM

R34 It'll go the same for Pete if issues keep dogging him + he refuses to elaborate on policy over time. But I doubt he'll have the extent of Beto awkwardness.

by Anonymousreply 38July 17, 2019 4:18 PM

He's probably even wrecked his chances at another senate run. He generated a tremendous amount of good will in 2018 and it seems like that's all evaporated now.

Though honestly, I don't think Pete's a much more substantial candidate. Less awkward I suppose. More like a solid middle management type. But if he weren't gay there's no way he'd have the support he does.

by Anonymousreply 39July 17, 2019 4:35 PM

Neither Beto nor Pete are going to EVER make it to the White House.

Get real.

by Anonymousreply 40July 17, 2019 4:37 PM

I'd make him come hard morning, noon and night.

by Anonymousreply 41July 17, 2019 4:41 PM

[quote]Many here on DL fell for his lame stunt of a campaign mainly because they thought him to be hot and wanted to either blow him or fuck him.

This is so off the mark: we wanted to blow AND fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 42July 17, 2019 10:36 PM

R40 Neither are you cunt so YOU get real! And neither is your candidate so buzz off.

by Anonymousreply 43July 18, 2019 2:49 AM

[quote]Neither Beto nor Pete are going to EVER make it to the White House.

You probably said the same thing when Trump was running, and look how that turned out.

by Anonymousreply 44July 18, 2019 4:06 AM

I KNOW it was said in the early days of the 2008 race about Obama.

Look how that turned out, too.
