What time will they be announced ?
The Emmy Nominations
by Anonymous | reply 431 | July 28, 2020 4:23 PM |
It begins at 11:30am EST.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 16, 2019 12:45 PM |
I'm excited! Let's make this the official thread for when they're announced in two hours!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 16, 2019 1:11 PM |
Poor D'Arcy Carden is announcing the nominations. She did Emmy worthy work on The Good Place and she'll likely be snubbed for a nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 16, 2019 1:35 PM |
Thirty minutes 'til showtime!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 16, 2019 2:59 PM |
I preferred when they announced the Oscar and Emmy nominations early in the morning, instead of almost midday.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 16, 2019 3:04 PM |
The West Coast wants to sleep in r5. They got their way.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 16, 2019 3:06 PM |
The Oscars they still announce super early. 8:30 PM seems super late for the Emmys, but I don't remember what time they used to announce.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 16, 2019 3:06 PM |
Almost 5 minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 16, 2019 3:22 PM |
Who is this queen?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 16, 2019 3:27 PM |
ugh they should have started right away with the nominations
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 16, 2019 3:31 PM |
They always do a bit of pomp from the highers up before they bring on the announcers.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 16, 2019 3:32 PM |
It's funny that D'Arcy's on Barry because I believe she used to babysit for Bill Hader.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 16, 2019 3:33 PM |
lol D'Arcy towering over Ken
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 16, 2019 3:34 PM |
Her waist is snatched.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 16, 2019 3:34 PM |
Not funny. Get on with the noms.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 16, 2019 3:35 PM |
Poor D'Arcy about to be snubbed again for an Emmy nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 16, 2019 3:35 PM |
I've never seen Ken Jeong before. He is rather queeny, no?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 16, 2019 3:35 PM |
Oh God if Billy Porter is nominated it is going to be a LONG journey to the Emmys.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 16, 2019 3:36 PM |
You've never seen Ken Jeong before? Do you watch things?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 16, 2019 3:37 PM |
JARED HARRIS!!!! And get it Jharrel, that little hottie. Loved him in Moonlight.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 16, 2019 3:37 PM |
Did Rockwell deserve a nom?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 16, 2019 3:38 PM |
Yay Joey King

Anthony Anderson is overrated.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 16, 2019 3:39 PM |
This means Catherine O'Hara has to be in, right? She's the best part of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 16, 2019 3:39 PM |
"Cool. Cool. Very cool."
Is she joking?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 16, 2019 3:40 PM |
FUCK YES for Catherine and Phoebe!!!

Billy Porter's gonna work that carpet. Prepare yourselves.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 16, 2019 3:40 PM |
Jodi Comer gets a nod.
Mandy Moore didn't deserve a nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 16, 2019 3:41 PM |
Hmmm... looks like they're going in on Game of Thrones for both Kit and Emilia to be nominated.
Also, Mandy Moore's gotta be shitting bricks right now... they finally see her lol.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 16, 2019 3:41 PM |
Happy for Bandersnatch! That was a dope project.

Are the Emmys taking a hardline against the glass closeted?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 16, 2019 3:43 PM |
Niecy Nash as a lead for When They See Us?!
Love her, but that's a joke. She doesnt veneer have that much screen time. So happy for Jharrell though.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 16, 2019 3:43 PM |
Schitts Creek for comedy series!

Pose nominated for Best Drama.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 16, 2019 3:44 PM |
I need to see those supporting actor, directing, and writing categories now... they haven't uploaded the complete list yet!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 16, 2019 3:45 PM |
Ditto Bodyguard. (But no acting noms... odd.)
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 16, 2019 3:46 PM |
Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Alfie Allen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage all nominated for Game of Thrones.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 16, 2019 3:46 PM |
the full list is up at emmys.com
The awful Leslie Jones from SNL didn't get nominated this year. Finally, people are starting to see that she sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 16, 2019 3:46 PM |
Full list
D'Arcy Carden should have had Kate McKinnon's nomination in the supporting actress in a comedy category.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 16, 2019 3:47 PM |
[quote]Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Alfie Allen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage all nominated for Game of Thrones.
Jesus Christ!

Ben Whishaw is nominated for A Very English Scandal.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 16, 2019 3:48 PM |
YOOO! Fleabag supporting actresses Sian Clifford and Olivia Colman were nominated!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 16, 2019 3:49 PM |
Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, John Mulaney and Adam Sandler nominated for guest hosting SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 16, 2019 3:49 PM |
I'm surprised that Margaret Qualley got nominated for Fosse/Verdon.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 16, 2019 3:51 PM |
Mulaney should win that category. I'll stand by Damon, and hell I'll even stand by Sandler, who I'm sure was nominated for his Chris Farley tribute. But De Niro was perpetually bad on SNL. A worse card reader than Leslie Jones, who's actually improved believe it or not. Honestly glad that she wasn't nominated though.
Sad that Aidy Bryant didn't get any love for Shrill.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 16, 2019 3:51 PM |
LOL, sorry I have to laugh. Fiona Shaw got nominated for her single scene in Fleabag? Emmys went buck wild this year! Very liberal with their nominations. That Kristen Scott Thomas nomination was inspired though.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 16, 2019 3:52 PM |
Sandra Oh's a double nominee for Killing Eve and SNL... which is somewhat surprising because they gave her nothing to do when she hosted.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 16, 2019 3:53 PM |
It looks like Ramy was completely shut out. I didn't expect it to have a strong showing, but I was hoping they'd nominate its writing for the 9/11 episode. I don't know how many people actually watched the show though.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 16, 2019 3:55 PM |
Also, Golden Globe winner and gay icon Richard Madden was snubbed. Pundits expected him to win, no?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 16, 2019 3:56 PM |
Also double nominees: Jason Bateman, Natasha Lyonne, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Bill Hader, Patricia Arquette, Fiona Shaw, Jonathan Banks, Alex Borstein, Adam Sandler. John Mulaney has four noms.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 16, 2019 3:56 PM |
Amy Poehler also a double nominee and James Corden has five noms.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 16, 2019 3:57 PM |
Kit Harrington as lead actor. He barely had any acting to do in Season 8.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 16, 2019 3:57 PM |
Harrington over Madden... yeesh.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 16, 2019 3:58 PM |
Yay for Amy!!! I'm not all the way done with the list, but I'm assuming she got in for the reality show she had with Nick Offerman? If so does that mean Offerman's FINALLY an Emmy nominee?!?!?!?!?!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 16, 2019 3:58 PM |
HBO leads with 137 noms, Netflix has 117. NBC has the most of the broadcast networks (58).
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 16, 2019 3:59 PM |
[quote] Also, Golden Globe winner and gay icon Richard Madden was snubbed. Pundits expected him to win, no?
Richard Madden was snubbed by BAFTA. He's basically considered "totty" and not much else.

by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 16, 2019 4:00 PM |
Julio Torres got a nom as part of the SNL writing staff.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 16, 2019 4:00 PM |
Add Carice van Houten to Game of Thrones litany of acting nominations. She got a guest nom as Melisandre.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 16, 2019 4:00 PM |
Amy Poehler is nominated with Nick Offerman for hosting Making It, yes. She's also nominated for writing Russian Doll.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 16, 2019 4:00 PM |
No acting noms for Fosse/Verdon?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 16, 2019 4:01 PM |

He's also been nominated for the past three years. He's been writing for them for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 16, 2019 4:01 PM |
Game of Thrones gets 32 noms. Must have cleaned up in the technical categories, too.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 16, 2019 4:01 PM |

A show you need to watch right fucking now. Only two seasons. 6 episodes each if I'm not mistaken. Easy to binge and rewarding to experience. Brilliant show. Happy to see its nominations.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 16, 2019 4:04 PM |
Wouldn't the Spacey business make them more likely to nominate Robin? A "see, the show can thrive without you, creep" (even if not true).

Michael Kelley too. Wasn't she also nominated for the previous season that omitted Spacey?

Yup. I suspect that's partly how Laurie Metcalf got in for Rosanne after that whole debacle.

Kristen Scott Thomas and Fiona Shaw didn't do anything to merit a nomination in Fleabag.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 16, 2019 4:10 PM |
Why do they hate me?!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 16, 2019 4:12 PM |
Scott Thomas did. Her scene with Phoebe at the bar was wonderful. She had tons of presence and articulated some resonant thematic ideas. It's actually the perfect type of guest nomination. Shaw on the other hand simply sat in a chair.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 16, 2019 4:12 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 16, 2019 4:15 PM |
FUUUUCK! Cate Blanchett wasn't nominated for Documentary Now. How did they not go for her in the Guest Comedy Actress category? She did a fuck ton more than Fiona Shaw. That's a disgrace.

by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 16, 2019 4:19 PM |
I'm sure HBO is happy to have reclaimed the "most nominated network" crown from Netflix. But with Game of Thrones gone, that ain't gonna last.

Fleabag's cinematography nomination is inspired. The camera work on that show is essential. Also have to say that I'm sad that Andrew Scott wasn't nominated for the show. I'm not sure where they could have submitted him though. He may have had too much screen time for guest, and supporting actor in a comedy's pretty loaded.

I still find it strange how certain documentaries are eligible for both the Oscars and Emmys. Both Free Solo and RBG garnered Emmy nominations after receiving Oscar nominations (and a win in Free Solo's case) at the Oscars earlier this year. I get that it's been happening for a while now, but I wonder if they'll ever make a rule against this in the future.

I agree 100%. It's complete bullshit and I don't understand why it hasn't been challenged yet. You're either a theatrical film or a television film.

Nothing for Pamela Adlon (Better Things), who was touted by a lot of TV critics.

Homecoming's getting a second season which seems to be following the narrative of the first, though without Roberts' on screen involvement, so it would have been in Drama Series. At least that's where the pundits predicted her nomination... and just about all of them did.

Julia Roberts doesn't deserve shit. I thought they'd nominate her just because she's a movie star who deigned to do tv. Glad they didn't.

Bateman took the SAG home... not that these things always match up, but they really seem to like Ozark. What's the word on Better Call Saul's season? Bob Odenkirk's beloved, and has yet to win. I can see these two and Sterling K. Brown being Porter's competition.

I wonder what's going on with that Madden snub though... I haven't seen Bodyguard, but it's all anyone could talk about. He won the Globe and it seemed like his star was on the rise what with the Bond rumors (which didn't pan out) and Rocketman. It would have been cool if he were nominated because there would have been a fun GOT reunion. Charles Dance, who played Tywin, was also nominated for Best Narration... though I doubt he'd show up for the ceremony.

Love that NAILED IT! got nominated. I wish Nicole Byer had received a nod for hosting it. She's hilarious.
BROAD CITY should have been nominated. The final season was fabulous.

Except I don't watch Game of Thrones, so I don't have any opinion on them. Also, 24 other performers of color were nominated, none of whom I called out, so stick your bullshit righteous indignation up your ass.

Broad City never got the recognition it received, which is unfortunate. However, both women are nominated this year for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Hack Broad City. They were also nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

I like the Emmy's liberal nominee count. It can get outlandish, like one year I think there 7 best supporting comedy actress nominees, but overall I enjoy how it's like one big party. There are tons of great performers in many series that weren't even included this year, so it's not a quantity over quality situation. Not always at least.

[quote] 347 films eligible for Oscars in 2018 versus 495 tv shows in 2018.
Another difference is eligibility -- for the Emmys, its for a program that is aired for the first time on one of many platforms (traditional broadcast, cable, streaming) during the stipulated timeframe, whereas the Oscars are restricted to only those films that play in Los Angeles for one week starting during the stipulated timeframe. It's inevitable that given the massive transformation of television there would be far more product available to be nominated.
The one complaint I have with the Emmys is nominating single episodes for writing, directing, etc. -- I think it should be for the entire season, or all of the episodes that aired during the stipulated timeframe. Given that the majority of television programs are now basically soap operas -- serialized drama or comedy -- they should be judged on their overall content, rather than just a single "moment" in the series.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | July 17, 2019 3:29 PM |
I want Maisie Williams to win in Supporting and Nicolaj Coster Waldau. Truth is, Peter Dinklage and Lena Heady are taking space that others deserved more. Neither one did anything remotely important in this last season. Lenan drank wine and looked out the window, then did the rying bit at the end. Peter was just awful. Truly. He simply recycled a couple speeches from previous seasons.
OK. Will someone who understands the process explain it to me? What does it mean when you say someone submitted their own name versus someone who was put in by their producers or their network? Is it possible that the Game of Thrones/HBO people wanted to nominate everyone, but had to take different paths to achieve maximum noms?
by Anonymous | reply 281 | July 17, 2019 3:46 PM |
R281 it means that the nominee submitted themselves at theirs or their agency’s own cost versus the network taking in the cost (to mount a campaign, put a reel together etc). Allegedly, Gwendoline Christie and Alfie Allen submitted themselves versus HBO doing so.

by Anonymous | reply 288 | July 17, 2019 6:34 PM |
r282 Yeah, HBO only submitted the seven main performers (Harington, Clarke, Dinklage, Coster-Waldau, Headey, Williams, and Turner). Pilou Asbaek, Richard Dormer, Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie, and Carice van Houten all submitted themselves with the latter three managing to get nominated.
Also to those complaining about GoT's massive overperformance, this was an incredibly weak year for Drama. Heavy hitters like Big Little Lies, The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things, The Crown, and Westworld all skipped this cycle. And the shows that actually did air were either exceedingly mediocre (This is Us, Ozark, House of Cards), had no passion behind them (Better Call Saul, Succession, POSE, Homecoming) or no prestige factor (Bodyguard, Killing Eve). While I agree that voters simply name checked GoT wherever they saw it, it's not like there were a lot of better options.
TL;DR Very weak year. GoT swept noms because namecheck and lack of competition. GoT will sweep practically every category in September besides Lead Actor, Guest Actress, and maybe Writing.

This is Us is the drama version of Modern Family. It's a show that's ok to watch, but it's not Emmy worthy. Sterling K. Brown was great in the first season, but after that his performances are over the top and the character is insufferable. Mandy Moore is quite average on that show.

There should be punishment for Limited Series that deliver second story continuing stories. For example, if you win for Best Actress in a Limited Series, then I feel you should be ineligible for an acting nomination for the same role for the second season. After that, game on. Otherwise, what incentive is there for a producer to launch the initial season as a limited series. Lord knows the competition is well, “limited” in those categories.

R332 That performance was one of my favorites from last year. I liked that performance more than Patricia Arquette's performance in Escape at Dannemora. I think Adams is already prepared to lose, she is probably wondering who will beat her.
One of the experts and a couple of editors at Gold Derby have predicted Adams as the winner. The rest of the experts and editors over there are split between Arquette and Williams. Sometimes surprise wins do happen at the Emmys and Adams has a better chance of winning than Niecy Nash, Joey King, and Aunjanue Ellis all do. I would laugh if Adams won and Williams and Arquette had meltdowns.

Gotta say, though- really don't get the nominations for Kristin Scott Thomas and especially Fiona Shaw. They did nothing. I would not mind seeing Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the woman who plays her sister both win, but my guess is it will be Olivia Colman, even though her character was the only one that didn't ring true to me.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | July 19, 2019 7:26 PM |

I hope that cunt Cherry Jones doesn't win in the guest actress drama category.

Chernobyl's been sweeping the techs, but it doesn't pick up best prosthetic makeup?! That went to Star Trek. Whatever... I doubt anything they did on that show was more visceral than what we saw on Chernobyl.

R378 too late bitch I won!
by Anonymous | reply 380 | September 16, 2019 2:31 AM |
Cherry Jones said that Phylicia Rashad and Cicely Tyson deserved to win over her. Well, I agree with her about Tyson.

[quote]Meanwhile Angela Bassett is still plugging away for her first, having lost best narrator.
That must hurt. I won narrator last year. It is so easy you just read stuff.

If you win an award, it's poor form to spout off about your "more deserving" fellow nominees.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | September 16, 2019 2:39 PM |
I'm glad Chernobyl and Game of Thrones did so well. I'm hoping GoT wins in all its categories, except the one that honors Dan Weiss and David Benioff. They are shit. They ruined the ending. Fuck them. Chernobyl was just brilliant in every way. I'm tired of Mrs. Maisel. Truly. IMO she has nothing new to say.

Since when, R383? It seems to me to be the opposite of being a sore loser. I do, however, think it’s not really fair to the other nominees who weren’t mentioned.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | September 16, 2019 4:16 PM |
Eh, certain years it just happens. I remember Olivia Colman basically apologizing to Glenn on stage after winning an Oscar. Claire Foy also shouted out Sandra Oh on stage after winning an Emmy. Adele did it with Beyonce at the Grammys.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | September 16, 2019 4:24 PM |
r385
The opposite is to graciously accept the fucking award and don't question whether or not you deserved it. Compliment your fellow nominees, sure. Don't suggest the academy (or whoever) got it wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | September 16, 2019 4:29 PM |
Rashad's guest appearance on This is Us was nothing special.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | September 16, 2019 6:07 PM |
Jones is probably friends with Rashad. And Cherry said when she saw the clip of Cicely she felt she wasn’t going to win. Jones won ten years ago, so I think it’s refreshing to say hey Phylicia has never won. You’ll never catch Emmy hog Julia Louis Dreyfus doing that.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | September 16, 2019 11:01 PM |
I want Phoebe to snatch up that Emmy.

Diane Ladd was upset years ago when Ingrid Bergman won for Murder on the Orient Express and said Valentina Cortese should have won. She thought it was a snub to her and the other nominees.
I think it was ok for Olivia Colman and Juliette Binoche (she said Lauren Bacall should have won) to say what they did because those were both cases where Close and Bacall were heavily favored to win but they didn't. Colman and Binoche were just acknowledging the elephant in the room. Everyone was probably thinking wow Close didn't win. You can even see how presenter Sam Rockwell looks up at Close when Frances McDormand reads the winner and not over to the left where Colman was sitting.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | September 17, 2019 4:26 AM |
Even Ingrid said Valentina should have won.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | September 17, 2019 8:45 PM |
I think McDormand and Close are friends. They worked together on a film over 20 years ago. McDormand puckers like she’s blowing a kiss to someone (I think Close) when she enters the stage. I think that’s why she wanted to present best actress instead of tradition dictated best actor thinking Close had it in the bag.

Only 4 more days!!!
by Anonymous | reply 395 | September 19, 2019 2:06 AM |
Just one day left.
I hope there are some upsets like Patricia Arquette losing to Michelle Williams in the miniseries lead actress category. Julia Louis-Dreyfus losing in her category.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | September 21, 2019 6:24 PM |
I'm excited! Love awards shows.
I feel very strongly about Michelle Williams winning. She was exceptional on the show... really moving performance. I think she has a lot of good will. I can't see Julia losing though. I mean... I'd be okay with Phoebe winning, and I hope we get to see her on stage with an award for something, but the last season of Veep was so beloved, and then there's the Cancer situation, and the finality of the show... her train feels as unstoppable as Bryan Cranston's or Aaron Paul's... and even they lost from time to time.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | September 21, 2019 6:32 PM |
Catherine O'hara has the worst odds of winning in her category according to Vegas odds. I think she may pull of a surprise win.

It happens, R398

Oh, and stop giving awards to Monk. He is adequate in the role in Mrs. M. What is this thing the voters have for Tony Shalhoub anyway? One for Monk would have been plenty.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | September 21, 2019 6:59 PM |
A Catherine O'Hara win would actually be the most legitimate thing the Emmys have EVER done. It'd be like Tilda winning an Oscar. Just... that'd be great.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | September 21, 2019 8:13 PM |
I still think Succession could pull off an upset over Game of Thrones. GoT is generally considered to have had a relentlessly shitty season.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | September 21, 2019 8:27 PM |
Yeah, but it seems like the Academy's relationship with the show is different from the audience/critics'. They gave Peter Dinklage an Emmy for a season that pretty much everyone agreed he had nothing to do in. I just think the Academy's wrapped up in the show in general, especially considering just how many fucking nominations they gave it, and it already won some at last weekend's Creative Arts Emmys. An upset would be fun, but I wouldn't be surprised if Game of Thrones ends up dominating.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | September 21, 2019 8:37 PM |
Game of Thrones is an annoying top. We want quirky bottoms like Killing Eve.

I'm watching for the Game A Thrones gang. I want them all to win except Benioff and Weiss. I know. I've posted that already. But I'm getting uxcited to see them all together again for the last time.

Will that really be an upset? On Gold Derby, both the “experts” and the fans give the edge to Williams.
Plus when it comes to awards, Arquette has sufficient. It’s Williams’ turn.

[quote]In what world are Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, and Mandy Moore considered talented? Did I miss something?
I don't see Moore ever getting nominated again. Next year, she'll get edged out by actresses on cable or streaming shows.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | September 22, 2019 2:47 PM |
I'm surprised she was nominated this season instead of the first two when the show was more beloved. Chrissy Metz hasn't even been able to get a second nom. Seems like they prefer the men on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | September 22, 2019 2:53 PM |
I don't think Emilia Clarke is a bad actor. I think she does a fine job. Especially given the material she had to work with. But she's not deserving of an award. Getting nominated is as good as it gets for her. IMO the final Season belongs to Arya. Period. All Lena Heady did was stand and stare out a window. Maisie Williams definitely worked her ass off in Season 8 and she was amazing. My second Choice would be Gwendoline Christie, but really it's a tie for second place between her and Sansa. People don't fully appreciate how subtle and nuanced Sophie Turner's performance was. Lena could get very hammy at times.

I think the Emmys will look back in shame at the fact that they never nominated Pedro Pascal for his season of Game of Thrones.
