The only reason you ascribe that to him is you think he's guilty (as do I). CBS knew that for Burke to win his lawsuit, he would need to prove in court that what they said likely happened, didn't happen. CBS also knew that Burke would never in a million years actually do that. If they actually paid him any money, they were very foolish to do so.

I think that's exactly why that episode happened; to exonerate Burke Ramsey from any involvement in his sister's death and to explain his bizarre behavior and mannerisms.
