I thought that sounded so chic.

The Roobin family were Jews from Philadelphia, part of the massive flood of Jewish families that flooded to the south after the Civil War to open businesses during reconstruction as they knew the people in the south would need essentials, especially clothing. These businesses were the life blood of most southern small towns until Walmart started coming in and destroying the downtowns of every small town, not only in the south, but all over America. One by one the home owned stores started dropping like flies.
