Country music songs that even people who hate country music love
Let's face it, country is the last genre that actually values a good fucking hook. As such, it is the last refuge for those of us who refuse to be seduced by the trap leanings of today's popular music.
What are some great country songs that everyone can love? Think Independence Day by Martina McBride, Grandpa by the Judds, Hotel Key by Old Dominion.

I just learned today that Earl Thomas Conley died in April. He recorded one of my all-time favorite country ballads, "What I'd Say", a song that should have crossed over, but this was the late 80s, when Top 40 avoided country music completely.

Most everyone likes the old stuff with the great voices: Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Everyone likes Dolly, too (who is a great musician but does not necessarily have a truly great voice--certainly not at the level of the other four I just mentioned).
Country music really changed in the mid 80s, and ever since it's had a much more specialized audience (though i think a more hardcore one, too).

I started with Patsy Cline, then branched out. I like Country songs about family, or God, especially.

Somewhere In My Broken Heart- Billy Dean re-recorded this, apparently to make it sound like Ty Herndon is singing it.
It's very simple, beautiful.

Bitch, I'm not asking about country songs you love personally. If you think Dwight fucking Yoakam qualifies to make this thread then you have missed the point of the thread.

Not R15, but I love Dwight Y. He does so much with his voice, it’s like another instrument. I think I have all his music, and other than Patsy, no other country.
At the link, he completely recreates Silver Bells as a TexMex polka.

If you're going as old school as Patsy Cline, the the answer is any of the Nashville Sound crossover hits. Here's one that lots of non-country music fans loved 50-60 years ago.
"He'll Have to Go" - Jim Reeves, 1960. It was #1 on the Billboard Country chart and #2 on the Hot 100 chart, kept from #1 by Theme From a Summer Place.
Oh, to live in times when songs like those two were top-10 pop hits.

^^^Before someone "helpfully" points out that racism, sexism and homophobia were rampant in 1960, what I mean is that I wish popular music still sounded like this.

Dolly Parton's music is a safe enough bet, particularly her duets with Kenny Rogers.
I think it might be difficult to find people who'd complain about this little ditty by Juice Newton if you play it for them:

Yes, early Olivia Newton John was considered country. "Let Me Be There" "I Honestly Love You" and "If You Love Me Let Me Know" were all considered country.
