Those pins in her wig cap are keeping her skin extra taught. Hepburn at 80 trying to look 40. Whose lift is it anyway? Poor thing. I bet she reads lines like in Mommie Dearest. On another site someone said that they saw earphones and was painful to see.

I hope "Tea At Five" is a huge hit for Faye. Katharine Hepburn is such an icon that it would be nice to have a glimpse into her life, so hopefully the play will not be slammed. Plus, Faye is one of our great actresses.
Several years ago, I saw the national Broadway touring company of "Master Class" starring Faye Dunaway as Maria Callas. Faye was brilliant. To this day, her performance remains the highlight of dramatic performances that I have ever seen, and I see a lot of shows. Faye was outstanding.

[bold]MS DUNAWAY DID NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS[/bold]
"Let me start by saying I love the theater and admire actors. It pains me to say that this performance was terrible. Ms. Dunaway stumbled repeatedly over her lines. Forget or never learned? Her accent was all wrong. She needed a cane to receive flowers and never used it or limped again. She did not capture any of Katherine's charisma. She may have been ill with her nose blowing and water drinking. Not ready for Broadway... or Boston. It was a complete waste of my time and money at $90 a ticket!!! Wish I could get my money back. Very, very disappointing."

Rave reviews:
Ben Brantley, The New York Times: Tea at Five is Bright, Brassy and All Faye! Ms. Dunaway brings such comic brio – both barn-side broad and needlepoint precise – to the task of playing Kate that I promise you it stops the show. Then again, pretty much everything Ms. Dunaway does stops the show.
.
Roma Torre, NY1: You know all those Tea at Five ads making it sound like Faye Dunaway is the second coming? Well, believe them. She morphs into the role of the beloved screen icon with a star power that brightens the universe… The moment Faye enters, there’s an electricity that courses through the theatre.
' Adam Feldman, TimeOut New York: ★★★★★ It’s hard to imagine a better match of actor and role: It is, in a word, perfection… From the rousing overture on, everything about the production, directed with joyful aplomb, gleams with old-fashioned charm.
' Jesse Green, Vulture: In the long line of memorable Kates I’ve seen or heard — Dunaway is by far the most natural and inviting… a perfect, once-in-a-lifetime Kate in Tea at Five.

The performance was cancelled last night because Faye was in such a rage backstage that Huntington Theater management deemed the situation “unsafe and hostile” for staff.
No joke, this really happened. My girlfriend is on the crew at the Huntington. It’s sad because she says the consensus is that Faye is really messed up mentally and needs help. It’s not just being a diva or a bitch. She’s really nuts and then gets depressed after she calms down.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 11, 2019 3:05 PM |
Why people are always dwelling on the negative? She also got good reviews :
"Kobi Kassal, Theatre Talk Boston: The play beautifully weaves together moments of Hepburn's life from career highlights and failures to her 26 year love affair with actor Spencer Tracey. Lombardo sprinkles in charming anecdotes throughout the story that helps connect the bigger topics. Adapted from her personal memoir, this portrait of one of America's greatest actresses is a fascinating reflection of her life. For those musical theatre fans, there is a great tale of Hepburn and Stephen Sondheim as neighbors while he was writing his hit show Company. Director John Tillinger, who has been with the show since its premiere back in the early 2000s now has the pleasure of working with Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Dunaway. Now at the age of 78, it has been almost 40 years since Ms. Dunaway has graced the Broadway stage. It was clear that Ms. Dunaway was having some trouble with her lines that she flubbed a few times throughout the night. Her ping-pong movements from one end of the stage to the other got mundane at points. Despite all that, Ms. Dunaway puts her heart and soul into the piece and plays Hepburn with heart and a fervorous passion. Her emotion shines in the monologue where Hepburn reflects on her brother's suicide. It is always a delight to see Dunaway back on the Boston stage, where she started her wonderful career many years ago."
by Anonymous | reply 98 | July 11, 2019 3:26 PM |
Robert Netsi, Edge Media: "Ms. Dunaway also gave life to another legend, this time on stage when she toured as opera diva Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's "Master Class" in 1996. She made for a commanding Callas - stern and authoritative, but vulnerable. She shows the same commitment here, which makes her Hepburn so fascinating to watch. It must be said that this is a performance in flux - not yet fully realized and with the occasional falter. (She slipped on her lines every now and then.) Nor has the arc of the performance fully realized; but Ms. Dunaway is most certainly on the right track, achieving moments of extraordinary connection with her audience."

"Tea at Five Doesn't Deserve Faye Dunaway"
"The posters for Tea at Five feature two names above the title: Dunaway and Hepburn, as if that’s all you need to know about the production before you buy your tickets. Well, here’s something else you might want to know:[bold] it isn’t very good."[/bold]
"Tea at Five is thankfully short"
"The play has been kicking around since 2002 when Kate Mulgrew appeared in an Off-Broadway production. The script has subsequently played a variety of locations, featuring a range of performers, including Tovah Feldshuh, Stephanie Zimbalist, and [bold]Charles Busch."[/bold] Charles Busch? How did we miss that?
"if Dunaway has the physical countenance down, she hasn’t quite mastered all of her lines."
"There were numerous obvious flubs in nearly every sequence in the play, including Hepburn’s famed “calla lily” speech [bold](of which you could hear numerous letter-perfect renditions in just about any gay bar across this great land)[/bold] Shade!
"Tea at Five is certainly valuable as a chance to see Faye Dunaway in person." Oooh - more shade!

"Dunaway does manage to remind us why, despite her relative absence from the stage and the screen in the last 30 years, she remains a Hollywood legend. I didn't leave it out, Faye. You can (and obviously did) read the entire review again from the link I provided.
I didn't quote it, again as you can obviously see having reading it all, Faye, because 1: I'm dissing it, and 2: his praise pales in comparison to his criticism: "it isn’t very good," "Tea at Five is thankfully short," "she hasn’t quite mastered all of her lines," "There were numerous obvious flubs in nearly every sequence in the play, including Hepburn’s famed “calla lily” speech." I did miss "Dunaway was noticeably — shall we say, hesitant? — with her many of her lines."
Why did you leave all those critical comments out of your response, Faye, er, cunt?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 12, 2019 3:40 PM |

Raquel Welch was pretty poorly received on her last theatre outing in the UK. Someone posted links on a Raquel thread not long ago. She wouldn't draw an audience or good reviews.

All of Raquel's acting is done by her wig.

They'd have to add a dance number for Raquel.....

R150 Confirmed by a tweet upthread, but not the why

Meanwhile she’s friends with that vile Sultan of Brunei and his son. Faye’s a disgusting bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | July 21, 2019 5:26 PM |
Faye looks as much like Hepburn as I do. Wtf? No wonder the reviews are largely negative.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | July 21, 2019 5:35 PM |
Look, Faye is a gifted actress. You can knock her temperament or her plastic surgeries, but not her abilities.

R143 Raquel Welch does not detest Faye Dunaway. That's just made up bullshit.
At the Lincoln Center retrospective Q&A, Raquel said this: “My first day on set, Faye Dunaway comes over to me all dolled up, and she was so cute. She said, ‘Darling, I just want you to know, I’m a big fan of yours. But don’t you know, they’re all just waiting for us to tear each other’s eyes out. So let’s have fun with them.’ Everyone on set was going, ‘Uh-oh, here they come,’ standing there watching. And Faye gets out her fan and starts fanning herself, saying, ‘Darling, I adore your work.’ And I say, ‘Everything you do is genius!’ Everyone was so disappointed.”
And here's Raquel talking about Faye in her GQ interview:
GQ: You acted with some great actors. I know it’s hard to pick favorites, but did you have any co-stars that you have especially fond memories of.
Raquel Welch: Oh, I loved Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Stewart, Dean Martin, Burt Reynolds and Richard Burton. And Jimmy Coco and Perry King, in The Wild Party. And Faye Dunaway was really great and fun. There were so many!
by Anonymous | reply 159 | July 22, 2019 7:07 AM |
I'm sure Faye and Raquel bonded over who could be the biggest cunt on set.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | July 22, 2019 5:38 PM |
Well, Rocky and Faysie got into a catfight at some L.A. fashion show, where they were squabbling backstage over who would wear a certain dress. I forget which book this is in ... but it was one that wasn't geared toward making either one look better than the other.
Anyway, Faye decreed SHE should wear the dress they both wanted, saying she knew "how to sell it."
Raquel asked her with what body she was going to wear the dress.

It wasn't from a book it was from Ted Casablanca's old column where the exchange was 'overheard'. Not exactly trustworthy.
And you didn't even get the Faye 'quote' right. Faye said 'the real actress should wear the dress'.
If Raquel hated Dunaway she would have no problem saying it, she has eviscerated others she has worked with. Yet at Lincoln Center Q&A and GQ interview she singled Faye out for nice comments.
Once again, made up bullshit.

by Anonymous | reply 173 | July 24, 2019 4:27 AM |
Why are they firing Faye? She got better reviews than the play. Fire the playwright!
Yes she needs to learn her lines but she's almost 80.
They gave Elaine Stritch a break when she had trouble with her lines.
It's the play that is stinking up the stage, not any actress that will be playing the part.

It's all unsubstantiated rumors.

I love that interview Hepburn gave with Clive James at R83. She looked annoyed, and I'm not sure she liked his interview style, which was quite to the point. Its very interesting what she says about her dead brother.

Confirmed that one performance of TEA AT FIVE towards the end of the run in Boston was canceled not long before curtain time due to a toxic and unsafe atmosphere backstage, or words to that effect. Seems Faye had a total meltdown over something, whether due to dementia or just plain craziness. This was the only performance actually canceled, but there had been previous reports of her doing a lot of screaming at people backstage and even DURING PERFORMANCES. She basically alienated everyone associated with the production, including the pathetic playwright. They grew to hate each other so much that they weren't speaking for most or all of the run.
That said, it's ridiculous to think they could find anyone else to take over the part for London and/or Broadway. Why the production isn't allowed to just die a swift, sad, embarrassing death is hard to comprehend.

R178 And you were right. Was this closing act to Faye’s career? 78 and fired. I can’t see where she could continue from this?

70 Girls 70!
by Anonymous | reply 187 | July 24, 2019 8:20 PM |
R97, R164, and R178 here.
Not sure Faye will ever be hired again because she was extremely abusive to the entire crew, never learned her lines except for the coke she was snorting, was not taking her psychopharmacology meds, ran up huge bills for which she now owes the producers more than she was to be paid, etc. and everybody in the business knows it.
Plus, she’s now on a yacht with that vile son of the Sultan of Brunei. Faye truly is a straight up nasty bitch and not a good person on any level.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | July 24, 2019 8:26 PM |
And by the way, at first the Boston team was really giving her the benefit of the doubt and felt that she needed mental help and support. But in the end she was just a disgusting bitch. No surprise I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 189 | July 24, 2019 8:28 PM |
How you can tell, though - if she was off her meds? I'm not defending her. Unacceptable behaviour is unacceptable behaviour. But if someone is mentally ill, it's hard to parse out what's the illness and what's not.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | July 24, 2019 8:33 PM |
Supposedly she would purposely not take her meds as a ploy to gain sympathy for the rest of her shit. And then brag to people about it like “look at me, aren’t I a brilliant and clever person? HA!”
Others thought she actually was taking them and lying, again as a ploy to get away with other crap. She’s a fucked up lady... even Sue Mengers was glad to get rid of her as far back as the mid 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | July 24, 2019 8:38 PM |
R188 wow, that’s a lot. How did the yachting happen?
by Anonymous | reply 192 | July 24, 2019 8:42 PM |
She’s been friends with the Sultan of Brunei and his son for a long time and I guess “tolerates” their policy of putting gays to death just like Barbara Thorndyke tolerates the anti Semitism at The Mortimer Club for the great breakfast and free parking.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | July 24, 2019 8:57 PM |

It's all rather pathetic.

My conclusion is, Faye was framed. Just like Our Chris was framed.
When they say she "slapped" employees, this was all probably no more than a slap to their wrists. NOWHERE does it say she struck anyone in the face.
Case Closed.
