Biden Steps In it Again

Uncle Joe is certainly causing a million headaches.

[quote]Tonight at a fundraiser in NYC, Biden recalled serving with a major segregationist Mississippi senator: “I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland ... he never called me boy, he always called me son.” He imitated the drawl. “At least there was some civility. We got things done”

Won't vote for him in the primary. Nope. Not gonna happen. Will NOT do it.

If nominated, will vote for him in the general. Of course.

by Anonymousreply 1June 19, 2019 11:47 AM

Can you imagine what will happen if the choice is between Biden or Trump? That’s a whole lotta stupid segregates are going to be constantly apologizing for. Neither is Mensa material and always putting their foot in their mouths. Will Biden challenge Trump to another fistfight? This country is such a trainwreck.

by Anonymousreply 2June 19, 2019 11:49 AM

Sorry, we’ve just listened to Trump for 4yrs (since ‘15), we are completely shock proof.

by Anonymousreply 3June 19, 2019 11:52 AM

Maybe the fact that Joe was a white man had something to do with what Senator Eastland called him? My reading of American Political history, reminds me that LBJ, and JFK also had to work with Eastland and they sometimes got his cooperation, but it was expensive in the way political horse trading is.

Joe can't help the fact that he is campaigning like it's 1988. This is kind of sad. And there is no one on his staff or in his family that will tell him. Certainly not Jill. I believe that Joe is a sincere, compassionate man. A kind man. I believe he has always been a giving, caring person. But he doesn't get it on the issues, and on how to frame them in 2019.

He could have saved himself on the Eastland comment if he had said Eastland was a vile segregationist, but he could find common ground with him and get his vote on (name something specific.) Joe could have used the Eastland comment to say, "The Republicans in the Senate today are even worse than Eastland. They refuse to work with you. We need a better Senate. We need a senate who cares about helping the American people., etc." Then his Eastand comments would be relevant.

Bernie, OTOH, is none of the things Joe is. Bernie is a selfish, narcissistic egotist, who cares for no one and he is not ideologically "flexible." So he can keep chugging along talking about Socialism and believing he has always been ahead of the curve.

by Anonymousreply 4June 19, 2019 12:08 PM

Biden should return to the good ole days of the Confederacy.

by Anonymousreply 5June 19, 2019 2:48 PM

Joe Biden was always trying to "find common ground" and make a deal. In fact he has always been too willing to make a deal. People say that's Pragmatism, but at what point do you cave in to get a deal, way before you even have to? Joe has always been too willing, and that's a problem. He doesn't hold out and get tough.

by Anonymousreply 6June 19, 2019 3:14 PM

There are three people I know of who were good deal makers. LBJ of course is the Gold Standard. He knew exactly what he wanted to achieve. He was clear about it. And he was a tough negotiator/arm twister. Teddy Kennedy was a good negotiator. And Bill Clinton was a good negotiator. Yu can't be fuzzy. You have to be clear in your own mind. YOu have to really know your opponent and what their concerns are, their weaknesses, their absolute zero. You arm yourself with information, you know exactly what you want out of it, and exactly what you will settle for. You have points you will give in on and other points that are carved in stone and non negotiable. You know how to time things. How to wait. How to stall.

by Anonymousreply 7June 19, 2019 4:07 PM

Ouch. I forgot about Pelosi. She's a Grand Master negotiator, second only to LBJ.

by Anonymousreply 8June 19, 2019 4:08 PM

That is fucking OUTRAGEOUS. I am OUTRAGED.

by Anonymousreply 9June 19, 2019 4:09 PM

Not sure what the issue is? Some old timey story?

by Anonymousreply 10June 19, 2019 4:14 PM

Politics is the business of convincing, moving toward a (common) goal, or a new goal. It has always, and I mean always, involved leadership, consensus and compromise. Given- ome people are almost impossible to work with- particularly the Tea Party clack in power right now. However Biden's comment is a bow to the sentiments of compromise and consensus. And it is what is totally lost in the GOP who want one party power and total capitulation on all issues. Some Democrats are like that as well. And I fear many young people think that the only way is to go as well. Nothing good in our nation in the way of legislation and change ever came about from 100% achievement of a political endpoint. When it comes to that- revolution or civil war more or less decides the day. I was not offended by Biden's remark at all- he is a politician and I mean that as a compliment, not a take down.

by Anonymousreply 11June 19, 2019 4:26 PM

R11, I agree with your first sentence.....and your second. And I understand your point about Biden. But we have a very different breed of politician in the Republican party in the Congress right now, as it is currently constituted. These are rigid ideologues buttressed by unfettered cash, and accountable to no one. They think compromising is for their opponents to give in.

You cannot deal with these people. And that is where Biden misreads this situation. We aren't dealing with normal, traditional. We are dealing with extremists who think it's OK to break the law, violate the Constitution, disenfranchise millions of voters through illegal means, and to break treaties with our allies. They look the other way when our national security is breached, and refuse to condemn people who openly consort with our enemies.

Mitch McConnell blocked Obama from a Supreme court seat. He announced his objective on the eve of Obama's first inauguration: "My job is to see him fail." So at this time, Joe is delusional if he thinks he can turn all this around with the same cast of characters currently occupying the Republican seats in Congress. Even Eastland was not as intransigent as these bastards are. ...and Eastland was a bad egg.

Cory Booker makes his move: Tells Joe Biden to Apologize for Praising Segregationists: ‘You Don’t Joke About Calling Black Men ‘Boys”

“Frankly, I’m disappointed he hasn’t issued an immediate apology for the pain his words are dredging up for many Americans. He should,” Booker said.

Gurrrrrrl.

by Anonymousreply 14June 19, 2019 9:20 PM

To be fair, his campaign advisors told him not to specifically mention Eastland. But he went and did it anyway. Tone deaf and completely foolish.

Maybe Alyssa Milano can convince him to apologize for this like she got him to change his stance on the Hyde Amendment. And that's not a joke.

by Anonymousreply 15June 19, 2019 9:32 PM

Maybe Alyssa Milano will have an abortion on stage as a pre-act to the dem's debates

by Anonymousreply 16June 19, 2019 9:49 PM

Maybe someone will abort Biden on stage! He is the worst. what a dope.

by Anonymousreply 17June 19, 2019 9:54 PM

Yes, he has his needs, but Orange Man Bad.

Someone censor this thread! Can't have people finding the truth.

by Anonymousreply 19June 19, 2019 9:59 PM

Does he even know what he's saying? Most of the time it doesn't seem like it.

At this point Biden comes across as a senile old man who is mainly interested is pissing off liberals and making conservatives love him.

Who does he think is going to vote for him? It certainly won't be conservatives, no matter how much Biden tries to convince them that he likes racists like them.

by Anonymousreply 20June 19, 2019 10:33 PM

You know, months ago, I said the pinnacle of Biden's career was becoming Obama's Vice President. He should have rested on his laurels and enjoyed speaking engagements. He's a mediocre intellect and a first class "Good Joe" personality type all his adult life.

Watching him campaigning is just sad to me. He's a great #2 guy. You want him on your team. He's loyal. John Kerry, Chris Dodd, and Teddy Kennedy loved him like a favorite Puppy. But he'd make a piss poor President. He lacks the kind of leadership skills we need. he's a soap salesman. Give him an issue to push and he'll get out here and sell it for his team, the Democrats.

At this point even in photographs he just looks sad & desperate. I wish he'd have some kind of "health scare" and drop out. I'd rather remember him as VP Biden, not this asshole. He might command some loyalty from older African Americans, but the younger, (under 50 Black voters will leave him. They are already jumping on Kamala's bandwagon and I know several who adore Elizabeth Warren.

by Anonymousreply 21June 20, 2019 12:30 AM

More absolutism. Some days it’s the right, some days it’s the left. Everybody complains it’s the other sides fault. Biden’s grievous sin? He actually said he could work with an unreconstructed son of a bitch to do what was good for the country.

And the left loses its hypocritical shit.

by Anonymousreply 22June 20, 2019 1:25 AM

And his supporters tantrum for the hundredth time in two months because he isn't being treated with kid gloves.

by Anonymousreply 23June 20, 2019 1:36 AM

Sleepy Joe

by Anonymousreply 24June 21, 2019 5:30 AM

Biden is delusional if he thinks Republicans would work with him fairly over the black man and white woman.

by Anonymousreply 25June 21, 2019 6:00 AM

Much Ado About Nothing

I’ll still vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 26June 21, 2019 6:17 AM

Joe is positioning himself as a sucker: Thinking that these Republican traitors, greedheads, racists, misogynists, and corporate toadies can somehow, through the sheer force of Biden Buddying, be "worked with."

No, they cannot.

Thus, we Democrats need not an old quixotic "unifier"; we need, the country and world needs, a forceful candidate who will view the defeat of Trump, his family, his minions, and his followers as a cause requiring a D-Day full-bore attack of blood, toil, tears, and sweat.

Complete victory, not compromise, must be the goal.

by Anonymousreply 27June 21, 2019 6:28 AM

He's an idiot to think that the same party that blocked Merrick Garland's supreme court nomination just because they could will do any thing but throw tantrums and demonize any Democrat.

Shit, if Dems are so desperate to work with Republicans they should nominate Joe Manchin and get in bed with the NRA and big coal.

by Anonymousreply 28June 21, 2019 6:36 PM

In order to "work with " any rotten son of a bitch you need to know what's important to him, what he wants, what he needs, what makes him look good...and what makes him look bad. With the current Crop of people calling themselves Republicans, they want to destroy government and privatized everything; they want our Social Security and Medicare privatized, they want unfettered corporate greed, they do not give a shit about the environment, education or gun safety. They aren't into their "legacy." They're short term thinkers and they only care about satisfying their donors. there is nothing to "work with." Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 29June 21, 2019 7:21 PM

I will not vote Status Quo Joe in the primaries and, if nominated (no doubt the Democratic Party rigging it again), I will not vote for him in the general election.

[BOLD]#NEVERBIDEN[/BOLD]

by Anonymousreply 30June 21, 2019 8:19 PM

So, R30 popped in to tell us he's voting to re-elect Trump in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 31June 21, 2019 8:23 PM

R31 A whole bunch of crazy people just told us they’ve committed to Trump’s second term.

by Anonymousreply 32June 21, 2019 11:29 PM

Biden's not exactly the most graceful guy under pressure, called to think on his feet and kaboom, he implodes. The gaffes are probably Joe's subconscious trying to sabotage himself, knowing the Dems could do far better than his goofy, gaffing ass. .
