Today is Paul McCartney's birthday.

Born on June 18, 1942 Paul McCartney turns 77 years old today. A member of the most popular band in music history, The Beatles.

He's had a successful solo career but not quite on par with The Beatles. He's a vegetarian and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1997 for his services to music which now makes him Sir Paul McCartney.

He was always known as "the cute Beatle".

What are your thoughts about Paul McCartney?

I'm seeing him in concert this weekend in San Diego, and next month at Dodger Stadium. Paul puts on a hell of a show- 3 hours. Obviously his voice isn't what it was, but the band picks up the slack.

by Anonymousreply 3June 18, 2019 3:31 PM

His most recent album, Egypt Station, topped the Billboard charts for the first time in 36 years and debuted at #1 making him a force still to be reckoned with.

Paul will burn them in hell for promoting drug music.

by Anonymousreply 5June 18, 2019 3:45 PM

He strongly resembles Angela Lansbury, especially in his dotage.

by Anonymousreply 6June 18, 2019 3:54 PM

Well, to be fair those sales included a free CD with each ticket and he only plays stadiums. I've got 8, lol. Still impressive that he can sell out ballparks at 77.

by Anonymousreply 7June 18, 2019 3:54 PM

I've always said he could be the poster boy for National Old Farts Day.

by Anonymousreply 8June 18, 2019 4:04 PM

Yes, r1, people are bound to look different in 2019 than they did in 1963.

by Anonymousreply 9June 18, 2019 4:15 PM

He's the most talented musician in the Beatles. Best voice and songwriting.

Ringo's my favorite though. He's so cute!

by Anonymousreply 10June 18, 2019 4:17 PM

I was at his Texas show last Friday night. He played for 3 hours and could have played for another 3 with all of the stuff he left out.

by Anonymousreply 11June 18, 2019 4:44 PM

Roger Ebert would've also been 77 today.

by Anonymousreply 12June 18, 2019 4:44 PM

Pffft rock and or roll music. Never on my show

My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done; such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs.

As Lennon referred to it, "granny music". Uncle Albert, Ob-La-Di Ob-la-Da, When I'm 64, Honey Pie, Michelle Ma Belle, Your Mother Should Know, the bilge goes on and on.

I think he hardly needs your introduction and I think you should refer to him as Sir Paul.

by Anonymousreply 22June 18, 2019 11:20 PM

And let us not forget such masterpieces as "Ebony and Ivory" and "Silly Love Songs".

R22, "Sir Paul" isn't necessary unless one is British.

by Anonymousreply 23June 18, 2019 11:45 PM

I bumped into him in a greengrocers on Western Road in Hove, East Sussex in the late 90s early 2000s. It was the time he was seeing Heather Mills, she lived a few streets away.

I said hello, he said hi back, and we carried on buying our veg. He seemed a nice bloke.

by Anonymousreply 24June 18, 2019 11:48 PM

R21, John said he thought he would have sung that song better than Paul did.

by Anonymousreply 31June 19, 2019 12:24 AM

by Anonymousreply 32June 19, 2019 12:26 AM

When I was a tween I owned an I Love Paul button.

by Anonymousreply 33June 19, 2019 12:29 AM

When the ex-Beatles launched their solo careers, Paul was kind of a disappointment at first, with the blah "Another Day". John was doing his horrible Ono-influenced anthems (Instant Karma, Power To The People, Give Peace A Chance, etc). Nobody expected much of Ringo, but he was fairly successful with "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off, Boogaloo". The surprise was George being the first to hit the top of the charts with "My Sweet Lord" and the "All Things Must Pass" album.

by Anonymousreply 34June 19, 2019 12:38 AM

Ringo also had success with the singles "Photograph" & "You're Sixteen"

One other surprise about George was that "My Sweet Lord" had a passing resemblance to The Chiffons' "He's So Fine"

by Anonymousreply 35June 19, 2019 1:07 AM

I was thinking about the right-after-the-breakup success of the four, but you're right ...Ringo did have a really successful period with those back-to-back number one songs. Of course, later everybody paled next to Paul who had nine number one songs post-Beatle.

by Anonymousreply 36June 19, 2019 1:17 AM

He was and is a genius. So shut the fuck up, my dears.

by Anonymousreply 37June 19, 2019 1:19 AM

George could have been the star in any other group, but he wasn't. Ringo's voice is pitiful.

Love him. Weird as I was definitely a George fan over the others. But Paul has a mellow dorky persona (which could be a front, I know) that warms me to him. Also I love his singing voice. Not as much now, but it's grandfatherly in its own way.

on July 25, 2019 I intercepted a conversation online between somebody claiming to be Paul McCartney and my ex-girlfriend (ex since then!) . we live in a crazy world and she could’ve been catfished. in that discussion, he claims that he will soon leave his current wife to be with my ex-girlfriend. Little he knows, she’s a narcissist abuser, a manipulator and a pathological liar! it would be déjà vu for him! I have filed a report with the authorities because of things he has said about me ( without knowing me at all ) in that discussion but there was no threats so they can’t do anything until anything happens . I have duplicated that discussion on multiple sites on the cloud and if I find out that it’s really him in the next couple of months, the truth will be exposed. if really it is him that my ex has been talking to for a while, he is a real asshole. I will wait and see!
