by Anonymous | reply 190 | June 21, 2019 1:25 PM |
Poor Anderson.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 17, 2019 2:11 PM |
So young.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 17, 2019 2:12 PM |
I don't see anything about her passing.. she's still here.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 17, 2019 2:13 PM |
I wonder if Kathy will be at the funeral.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 17, 2019 2:14 PM |
Who will be the third after Franco and Gloria?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 17, 2019 2:14 PM |
Poor little rich girl.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 17, 2019 2:14 PM |
Is she dead to you OP?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 17, 2019 2:14 PM |
Little Gloria...happy at last.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 17, 2019 2:15 PM |
Aww. I listened to the audiobook version of hers and Anderson’s book a while back. It’s really interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 17, 2019 2:16 PM |
Ok... Info was just updated. She was an interesting woman, with a very interesting life. Godspeed Gloria..
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 17, 2019 2:18 PM |
It's weird....no major outlets are reporting it yet and it's not on CNN's site, but it's showing up on a few small sites.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 17, 2019 2:18 PM |
Wikipedia is just updating the information.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 17, 2019 2:20 PM |
Please post an official link.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 17, 2019 2:20 PM |
The mother of us all.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 17, 2019 2:21 PM |
It's on CNN as a video. Anderson said they took her to the hospital earlier this month and found that she had advanced stomach cancer that had spread.
Fly and be free, glorious Gloria!
My heart goes out to Anderson. I know they were close. She had him as a late in life (age 46?) surprise bonus baby boy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 17, 2019 2:23 PM |
The news just broke at 1000am per Anderson's statement to CNN
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 17, 2019 2:24 PM |
My heart goes out to Anderson. The documentary about him and his mother was touching. At least those captured moments are there for all of us to share and celebrate.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 17, 2019 2:28 PM |
Gloria scored some major quality cock over the years.

[quote]Gloria scored some major quality cock over the years.
She had a good run.

He's probably already at the ATM withdrawing his inheritance.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 17, 2019 2:32 PM |
You know Gloria Vanderbilt, that lady who took her family's good name and put it on every ASS in America
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 17, 2019 2:33 PM |
Better her than well me, for instance
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 17, 2019 2:34 PM |
Has Susan Dey failed to comment yet?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 17, 2019 2:34 PM |
Anderson revealed to Howard Stern that he was not a beneficiary in his mother's will.
Not that he needs the money.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 17, 2019 2:36 PM |
Cooper Anderson.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 17, 2019 2:38 PM |
I too wonder if Kathy would attend. I guess not. What happened to her and Gloria after Cooper shunned Kathy?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 17, 2019 2:38 PM |
Will she now join her splatter of a son in the big Studio 54 in the sky?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 17, 2019 2:39 PM |
r24 What's the story behind mentioning Susan Dey? I've noticed it several times and wondered.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 17, 2019 2:44 PM |
Did Doris Day comment yet?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 17, 2019 2:45 PM |
RIP.
95 is a long time. She had a good life.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 17, 2019 2:46 PM |
[quote] Anderson revealed to Howard Stern that he was not a beneficiary in his mother's will.
I wonder how much the kids she had with the conductor will get (if anything).
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 17, 2019 2:46 PM |
I wonder if Glo and Anderson ever compared their list of conquests.
Both of them have had some fine cock over the years.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 17, 2019 2:47 PM |
OP, for fucks sake, it should be Gloria Vanderbilt is DEAD to me. Follow the format, dude.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 17, 2019 2:49 PM |
Did Anderson giggle while reading the announcement?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 17, 2019 2:50 PM |
Will "Vanderbilt Rules"" continue without her?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 17, 2019 2:51 PM |
R29: Some DLer completely lost their mind when Susan Dey didn't comment on David Cassidy's death, so we of course now expect her to comment on all deaths, and judge her accordingly when she does not.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 17, 2019 2:51 PM |
Did she jump out a window, too?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 17, 2019 2:52 PM |
Doris and Gloria are speaking in Heaven R30..
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 17, 2019 2:52 PM |
Heaven needed two more angels^^^
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 17, 2019 2:53 PM |
Had she been ill or was this death from the ubiquitous old age?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 17, 2019 2:53 PM |
Didn't know she was friends with Doris Roberts.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 17, 2019 2:54 PM |
Far more interesting than most socialites (in keeping with her crazy mother, one of many social climbing Vanderbilts). She had impeccable taste in design, art, and men - Gordon Parks was one of her longtime partners - and was still fresh and funny on Instagram in her mid 90s. Icon.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 17, 2019 2:54 PM |
I read that Gloria had stomach cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 17, 2019 2:54 PM |
R41, see R15.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | June 17, 2019 2:55 PM |
r41 see r15
by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 17, 2019 2:55 PM |
It says in R15 that she had stomach cancer R41, ya lazy fuck. Does someone have to chew your food for you, too?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 17, 2019 2:55 PM |
Rich people give their money away before they die and they put money in trusts for people, so it doesn't go through probate (public).
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 17, 2019 2:57 PM |
Little Gloria-dead at last.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 17, 2019 2:58 PM |
Too bad it wasn't Anderson. He's such an asshole .
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 17, 2019 3:00 PM |
R43, every time she gave a tour it looked bipolar methy.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 17, 2019 3:01 PM |
Did she get to hear "MADAME X" before she passed?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 17, 2019 3:01 PM |
Did she go to Kathy’s comeback show at Carnegie?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 17, 2019 3:03 PM |
I was never very impressed with her. She always seemed silly. But I am sorry for her family's loss.
That being said, I found Anderson Cooper's video obit a bit tacky. He managed to make her life about his.
And his mother would not have appreciated him using video of her on her deathbed -- just to make about joke about his giggle.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 17, 2019 3:04 PM |
I once tried an Elizabeth Arden face mask that had a nice smell to it.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 17, 2019 3:04 PM |
her plastic surgery made her look like a burns victim
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 17, 2019 3:05 PM |
[quote]Anderson revealed to Howard Stern that he was not a beneficiary in his mother's will.
That's because it's all in a Trust.
And he has more money than her anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 17, 2019 3:06 PM |
CNN initially had this photo with her death announcement. I was thinking how fabulous that Anderson probably selected it, but now it's been replaced.
r37 That makes perfect sense.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 17, 2019 3:07 PM |
Death Pool Score! Yes!
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 17, 2019 3:08 PM |
Mrs Patrick Campbell is sewing elastic waistbands into all her Gloria Vanderbilt jeans as I type . . .
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 17, 2019 3:10 PM |
She was rich, but very ditzy.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 17, 2019 3:15 PM |
You never wanted to get near a window with her in the room.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 17, 2019 3:15 PM |
Who?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 17, 2019 3:16 PM |
The article in the NYTimes is full of typos and unintentionally inserted comments. Really shoddy.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 17, 2019 3:19 PM |
As Anderson said she fucked "hot Howard Hughes".
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 17, 2019 3:21 PM |
I thought Anderson's voiceover for the obit was interesting.
He could have re-recorded the end, where he gets choked up. But he didn't.
Because a little bit a theater helps things go viral.
And, even with the death of a parent, one has to think about business.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 17, 2019 3:29 PM |
Just another rich cunt, luck by birth no talent & her products were JC Penney bullshit. If she’d of been born in a trailer park in New Mexico she’d of died in one too.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 17, 2019 3:32 PM |
She was an earlier Paris Hilton.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 17, 2019 3:33 PM |
R71 She looked MtF.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 17, 2019 3:41 PM |
CNN has highlighted notice of this woman's death as "Breaking News." Pray tell, when is the death of a 95 year old person "breaking news?"
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 17, 2019 3:55 PM |
R74 "Breaking" means "New" not "Startling."
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 17, 2019 3:57 PM |
When were her jeans popular? Now they're carried in Walmart, Target, Sears, and JCPenney. People who want cheap but acceptable quality will go for the Lee brand. People who want a big name brand will go for Levis. Her brand is just sort of there.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 17, 2019 3:58 PM |
Surely, nobody still sells Gloria Vanderbilt jeans.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 17, 2019 4:00 PM |
[quote] If she’d of been born in a trailer park in New Mexico she’d of died in one too.
Oh, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 17, 2019 4:00 PM |
She sold her interest in the brand decades ago.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 17, 2019 4:04 PM |
[quote]her products were JC Penney bullshit.
How VERY dare you!!
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 17, 2019 4:05 PM |
[quote] she’d of died in one too
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 17, 2019 4:06 PM |
Her jeans were tacky -- even by 1980s standards.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 17, 2019 4:11 PM |
R77 Some places do, they are the only brand my grandmother will wear.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 17, 2019 4:11 PM |
Anderson will go off the deep end without Gloria. It felt like his mother kept him together emotionally.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 17, 2019 4:12 PM |
[quote]Gloria scored some major quality cock over the years.
Like mother, like son.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 17, 2019 4:12 PM |
I admire her lifelong commitment to bangs.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 17, 2019 4:13 PM |
R86 her hair or men?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 17, 2019 4:17 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 88 | June 17, 2019 4:17 PM |
Her jeans were just a ripoff of Calvin Klein jeans.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | June 17, 2019 4:18 PM |
Was Laura Brannigan's song about her?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 17, 2019 4:24 PM |
R89, Gloria had her jeans line before Calvin, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | June 17, 2019 4:25 PM |
They were, "Gloria Vanderbilt jeans by Murjani". Who the hell was "Murjani"? Anderson's dad?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | June 17, 2019 4:34 PM |
yeah she had pain in her life, but who doesn't, i'd take her pain to never have to worry about money
by Anonymous | reply 94 | June 17, 2019 4:35 PM |
While I am sure she was comfortable in her old age- still doing her thing (art) she did not have significant wealth. Her businesses all tanked for one reason or another and she had long gone through her V inheritance. She has to sell her Gracie Square apartment to settle debts. I'm pretty certain. I also know first hand of her not meeting the financials for a coop purchase in NYC- she barely was in the positive column and this was when her jeans company was at it's so called peak success. She certainly was interesting and was a survivor. And she must have done something right in her personal life to raise a son like Anderson- who I think is a good man.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | June 17, 2019 4:36 PM |
had, not has (to sell) abve

Gloria, R102. Franco Zeffirelli was the first.

Gloria is dead. Trump still lives.
What a fucking world.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | June 17, 2019 5:13 PM |
She was 95. Give it a rest.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | June 17, 2019 5:14 PM |
Fuck her. Jeans were $8 a pair until this bitch put her name on them and charged $30. The price of jeans everywhere went up pretty much overnight. Doesn’t sound like much today, but it’s an almost 400% increase just as recession was setting in.
. It’s one of the reasons the Gap became popular. You could still find decent jeans there for a decent price and people started shopping for clothes there instead of in department stores.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | June 17, 2019 5:16 PM |
R109, are you also R22?
by Anonymous | reply 113 | June 17, 2019 5:18 PM |
^^^ get over it, it was 40 years ago
by Anonymous | reply 114 | June 17, 2019 5:18 PM |
R113 no, I missed it.
Funny that two people would remember a line from a show that aired 40 years ago. Sorry, I should've checked first.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | June 17, 2019 5:20 PM |
That’s all right, R115. I was just curious.

Commenting on Gloria's apparent feminine itching problem, Roseanne Rosannadanna also said that she handed Gloria her hairbrush and said
- Here Gloria, have yourself a field day!
by Anonymous | reply 118 | June 17, 2019 5:32 PM |
R118 yep, in the bathroom at Studio 54. She was backing into door knobs...
I looked for that bit, but it isn't online.

R117, that post is correct.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | June 17, 2019 6:07 PM |
I can't believe Anderson posted a video of her with tubes in her nose in hospital bed. She looked terrible. I doubt she would be happy with the world seeing that image of her.
The world doesn't need to see that! Is there nothing sacred anymore??
by Anonymous | reply 121 | June 17, 2019 6:28 PM |
R121 no, there is nothing sacred anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 17, 2019 6:30 PM |
I mean, seriously, putting out a video of your mother in her deathbed. How classy!!
by Anonymous | reply 123 | June 17, 2019 6:37 PM |
Cornelius was a hard-driving, rough character. A book written in the 1980s by a Vanderbilt descendant said he was “illiterate, bad-tempered and foul-mouthed, and inclined, when trapped into a social event, to spit streams of tobacco juice and fondle the maids.”
by Anonymous | reply 124 | June 17, 2019 6:38 PM |
All of these magnates were terrible awful people.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | June 17, 2019 6:48 PM |
Where is the video? I don't see it on Twitter or Instagram.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | June 17, 2019 7:03 PM |

Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans stand out because they really popularized jeans as designer things instead of just utilitarian work clothes, that people wore while working, before then people (well adults) were still aghast at the thought of wearing blue jeans outside of working (as in yard work or heavy work) settings. [reference to Ethel refusing to wear blue jeans on the subway]
This was in the very late 70s (reference the SNL Rosanne Rosannadanna reference)
And her commercial was catchy.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | June 17, 2019 8:44 PM |
It’s spelled “alright,” r120.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | June 17, 2019 9:48 PM |
R133 No it is not "all right" is the proper way in standard English, alright is however an informal version that is sometimes used, though incorrect.

R138- Anderson Cooper has an annual salary of $13 million. He can do very well without his mothers $.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | June 17, 2019 11:02 PM |
How does a news anchor make $13M a year?!
by Anonymous | reply 144 | June 17, 2019 11:10 PM |
R144- Anyone who makes that kind of annual salary as a NEWS reporter is NOT a serious journalist it's just SHOWBIZ.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | June 17, 2019 11:28 PM |
So what?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | June 17, 2019 11:34 PM |
Anderson supported her. He's a nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | June 18, 2019 2:22 AM |
Regarding Kathy, if a friend betrayed you and severed ties under malicious circumstances, how does propriety dictate that you respond to the death of their parent? Should she reach out to Anderson? Or should she be like "fuck him!"
by Anonymous | reply 148 | June 18, 2019 4:22 AM |
Just because Anderson and Kathy had a falling out, doesn't mean she couldn't still be friends with Glo.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | June 18, 2019 5:50 AM |
Did she not speak to her first two kids? I once skimmed one of her books. From what I saw it only mentioned Anderson and the brother who killed himself.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | June 18, 2019 6:30 AM |
She had an early marriage to the guy who had earlier been married to DL fave Thelma Todd!
by Anonymous | reply 151 | June 18, 2019 7:05 AM |
Yes, and he most likely killed Thelma.
I'm sure everyone knows, but Gloria's aunt was the Duke Of Windsor's mistress and good friend of Wallis Simpson.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | June 18, 2019 7:09 AM |
Did Gloria have a spite with Miss Garbo? They happened to live in the same UES building and she had an affair with Leopold Stowkowski (Gloria's husband at the time?). I read they tried to avoid one another from then on out.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | June 18, 2019 9:29 AM |

Hopefully, r97, it will be you.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | June 18, 2019 12:33 PM |
Kathy Griffin used the opportunity to make it about herself as much as Gloria Vanderbilt. And to praise someone and not acknowledge Anderson Cooper and his feelings kind of say it all.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | June 18, 2019 12:46 PM |
R160, they each have staff to handle grief in an appropriate manner.
I have only heard Anderson’s Cher impersonation.

Right, because being Anderson Cooper's mother is the only thing Gloria Vanderbilt was ever known for.

Is this something typical for Anderson - staying in contact with his ex boyfrieds? His relationship with Cesar is more than 10 years ago and he seems to have still close contact with Ben too?! Only recently relatives from Ben from France viseted Anderson and the fire house [AC liked a pic of them in IG, and he rarely likes any pics at all].

I think it's great they're all still friends. And remember, they knew Gloria too, so of course they'd want to be there. Plus we have no real idea of what the break up meant. Maybe they all still see one another just not exclusive. She has two other sons, including one she had been estranged from, had not spoken to for 40 years! Apparently the other one seems to "get along" with Anderson, but not close. I don't think either of them was at their mother's funeral.
Now that she's gone, I wish Anderson would take some time and go back and research her early life. I understand the urgency to focus on what he could get directly from her because she was so old, but she's gone now so he has the luxury of time he didn't have before, to delve into the life of Little Gloria, and her eccentric Aunt Gertrude who had a direct hand in raising her. Gertrude was fascinating. Married a Whitney.

Kathy Griffin's tweets seem designed more to show off how close she was to Vanderbilt than to honor her memory.
As such, they smack of rubbing Anderson's nose in it.

I'm not sure about Kathy- she did seem close to Gloria. If she posted something to Anderson, it could come across as disingenous. Maybe this will mend their friendship.

[quote]Regarding Kathy, if a friend betrayed you and severed ties under malicious circumstances, how does propriety dictate that you respond to the death of their parent?
Privately.

This is a new age. There were plenty of social media posts from Anderson's friends.

A new age doesn't account for Kathy Griffin being Kathy Griffin.
And Anderson Cooper isn't a "news reader," r156. That's not even accurate. He's not a news caster.

R167, What funeral? Those photos were just Gloria's body being removed from her apartment in a mahogany coffin on Tuesday morning.

I am curious, Where were Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans sold??
Were they like Bloomingdales upwards into Saks/Neimans?
Or were they more like A&S/Macy's?
I am curious how high end they were at the time?

Bullock's or Bullock's Wilshire, BITCH!!???
There is a difference!!!
So they were like Macy's shit?
Macy's was much higher end in 1979 though..

LittleGloriaHappyAtLast's jeans can be found at Costco's and Kohl's among other upscale outlets. ...and not just her jeans. She turned out stunning skirts, capris and tops also found at those outlets. The Fraus who wore her fashion will miss her very much. Very much.

Gloria was back in touch with Christopher Stokowski and had seen him several times in the last few years. He had opted out of the family for various reasons but softened at last. Perhaps he wanted his children to know their grandmother.

I wonder if she left him some souvenir from her surgeries - fat, cartilage, skin....
Perhaps, in a jar. Like Bar’s jar baby.
