Who Should Elizabeth Warren Choose As Her VP?

It's obvious where this is heading. Which person should she choose?

by Anonymousreply 212July 6, 2019 1:33 AM

Pete or Castro.

by Anonymousreply 1June 15, 2019 8:03 PM

Second vote for Mayor Pete

by Anonymousreply 2June 15, 2019 8:08 PM

A black male not Corey Booker.

by Anonymousreply 3June 15, 2019 8:09 PM

Obama

by Anonymousreply 4June 15, 2019 8:34 PM

Eric Holder

by Anonymousreply 5June 15, 2019 8:55 PM

Has to be black, since she's in favor of reparations. But, she won;t win the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 6June 15, 2019 9:10 PM

Mayor Pete

by Anonymousreply 7June 15, 2019 9:12 PM

Pete.

Cory Booker needs to drop out. (As do about 19 other candidates!)

by Anonymousreply 8June 15, 2019 9:19 PM

Julian Castro

by Anonymousreply 9June 15, 2019 9:32 PM

Pete or Kamala

by Anonymousreply 10June 15, 2019 9:40 PM

Kamala

by Anonymousreply 11June 15, 2019 9:53 PM

It can't be two women on the ticket, need to reach the male vote, white or non-white.. The Black Vote is one of the Dem's strongest and most reliable base and need to acknowledge that base. Kamala doesn't really appeal to the black voters. Eric Holder sounds like a good choice because he represents the Obama administration like Biden does.

by Anonymousreply 12June 15, 2019 10:03 PM

she isnt going to have to worry about making that decision, sorry

by Anonymousreply 13June 15, 2019 11:44 PM

It has to be a straight white man.

by Anonymousreply 14June 16, 2019 12:18 AM

Kamala or Pete

by Anonymousreply 15June 16, 2019 12:21 AM

Peter ButtJudge.

by Anonymousreply 16June 16, 2019 12:24 AM

Pete, without a doubt. They’d have great chemistry.

by Anonymousreply 17June 16, 2019 12:25 AM

Warren is Hillary 2.0. I just don't understand why people think she can win.

She is completely qualified but also as endearing as a block of ice.

by Anonymousreply 18June 16, 2019 12:26 AM

You think Trump was elected because he's endearing?

by Anonymousreply 19June 16, 2019 12:28 AM

No of course not R19, but while it is unfair, I don't think a stone cold female policitan will win the US presidency. Vast amounts of women voted for Trump for reasons that, I can only guess, were because she wasn't "motherly". She wasn't a soccer mom. Which, again, is bullshit, but the does speak for themselves.

.

by Anonymousreply 20June 16, 2019 12:35 AM
but the does speak for themselves.

The VOTES speak for themselves

by Anonymousreply 21June 16, 2019 12:36 AM

Mayor Pete (I love this man) or Beto (don't like him, though)

by Anonymousreply 22June 16, 2019 12:44 AM
Vast amounts of women voted for Trump for reasons that, I can only guess, were because she wasn't "motherly".

If you're talking about Hilary, she had way too much baggage, just like Bernie does from 2016..

After the debates, Warren's poll numbers will rise. She's like the tortoise in the race.

by Anonymousreply 23June 16, 2019 12:47 AM

I don’t think she’s stone cold. No, she’s not warm and fuzzy. She has convictions and ideas and has to express them succinctly and clearly. I don’t give a shit if she lacks a particular quality of “warmth.”

by Anonymousreply 24June 16, 2019 12:49 AM

r24 Exactly. A turd in male form who can barely string a sentence together can get elected, but the female candidate needs "warmth" in addition to experience and policy plans? Just fuck off with that sexist bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 25June 16, 2019 12:52 AM

Beto won't win Texas for Warren, Mayor Pete has huge appeal for mid western states.

Any way, she won't be the nominee. It will be Pete and he will pick Stacy Abrams as his VP

by Anonymousreply 26June 16, 2019 1:26 AM

^People who think an out gay man with "butt" in his name has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the nomination or the election are just precious.

by Anonymousreply 27June 16, 2019 1:34 AM

R3 exactly! Booker has some good ideas I guess but he's a wuss and a showboater. But a low-key , smart black guy would get the votes that carried Obama.

by Anonymousreply 28June 16, 2019 1:44 AM

No you're not sorry, snarky R13.

by Anonymousreply 29June 16, 2019 1:49 AM

R27, you've made that comment about 1,000 times and you're still wrong.

by Anonymousreply 30June 16, 2019 2:04 AM

She should choose the person she thinks she can work with the best.

by Anonymousreply 31June 16, 2019 2:16 AM

Kamala is going to be on the ticket. Either Elizabeth or Joe and Kamala. I wish Mayor Pete could do it, but I don't think it will work. Now if something happens to Joe, ( and it well may) Kamala could become POTUS and get Pete for her VP. THe thing is, whether it's Elizabeth or Joe, they need to choose someone who can generate enthusiasm, and not reach for someone who isn't able to generate support. So Booker and Castro aren't going to be a factor. I hope and pray Joe isn't the nominee. I'd have to over look a lot to vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 32June 16, 2019 2:40 AM

Just look over at the GOP candidate.

by Anonymousreply 33June 16, 2019 2:54 AM

R27 You probably said that about Obama's middle name too.

by Anonymousreply 34June 16, 2019 2:58 AM

Bigoted, hypocritical cunt.

by Anonymousreply 35June 16, 2019 3:02 AM

I’d like to see Pete on the ticket.

by Anonymousreply 36June 16, 2019 3:06 AM

Sharice Davids is Ho-Chunk (NA) and a US Representative from Kansas.

by Anonymousreply 37June 16, 2019 3:21 AM

Trump is a psychopath and a deplorable person, but he has charisma. At this point in the game, only a charismatic candidate can rival him. Only Pete and buffoon Beto have charisma to rival him, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 38June 16, 2019 3:21 AM

"Trump..has charisma"

Wasn't that cleared up with Cipro?

by Anonymousreply 39June 16, 2019 3:30 AM

I don't know if you understand what charisma is. It has nothing to do with being nice or progressive or anything. Deplorable people have charisma. Hitler had charisma, that's how he convinced an entire nation on his madness.

Trump is very charismatic and his low intellect and jargon driven speeches work in his favor. So yeah, his very charismatic, something sociopath Hilary isn't, unlike her husband Bill.

by Anonymousreply 40June 16, 2019 3:35 AM

Pete or Julian

by Anonymousreply 41June 16, 2019 3:40 AM

I prefer my opinion to yours, Frank. Trump does NOT have charisma.

by Anonymousreply 42June 16, 2019 3:44 AM

Voter suppression is how Trump won in 2016--in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. People keep forgetting that. Right now, he's not doing so well in MI and PA according to polls (but you can't take polls seriously anymore I know, I know). Maybe the Rethugs don't even need Russian hackers anymore; since the voting machines can still be hacked, they can do it themselves--and will. Dems have to win by such an overwhelming margin that Cheatolini can't say he won (he will say he WUZ robbed of course and probably try to incite his base to riot. There will undoubtedly be violence if he loses. I have a feeling that if he loses he will be gone to Moscow on the night of the election so he can't be prosecuted. And they won't extradite him natch. Or at least as soon as he's out of office.

But the Dems have to win by huge amounts, which is why I think, much as he's too old with all that entails, maybe Biden should be the nominee and then I'd like to see Stacy Abrams as VP (to bring the black female vote, which is the most reliable part of the Democratic base). I love Mayor Pete and am a regular contributor to him, and I think Warren is very impressive, but I think people will end up turning to Biden as the most likely to beat the Evil One. I wish we could get rid of McConnell too. Not sure he's up for re-election this time. He's the dirtiest of the dirty; he and his scummy grifter wife, Elaine Chao.

by Anonymousreply 43June 16, 2019 3:44 AM

^^ If we don't win, that's the end of democracy as we know it.

by Anonymousreply 44June 16, 2019 3:48 AM

R39 he has a strain that's antibiotic-resistant.

by Anonymousreply 45June 16, 2019 3:48 AM

Trump is repugnant but has charisma in spades. My gosh, watch his rallies.

by Anonymousreply 46June 16, 2019 4:09 AM

I hope Kamala Harris wins the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 47June 16, 2019 4:16 AM

Stacey Abrams is a loser. Why put her on a ticket?

by Anonymousreply 48June 16, 2019 4:17 AM

Beto

by Anonymousreply 49June 16, 2019 4:22 AM

r32, Joe and Kamala or Elizabeth and Beto.

There can't be two women, just not going to work.

Julian Castro is like a Tim Caine but he can speak better Spanish but is boring as shit. Pete I like but gay and a woman is too much to ask from this country.

by Anonymousreply 50June 16, 2019 4:24 AM

Her VP might as well be the Easter Bunny because he has as much chance of being the VP nominee as she does at being the Democratic presidential nominee.

by Anonymousreply 51June 16, 2019 4:26 AM

R51, we will come back here next year and see how sure you are of yourself.

by Anonymousreply 52June 16, 2019 4:30 AM

No, it's not "obvious where this is heading". She's having her moment in the sun, mostly because the media is using her to weaken progressive support for Bernie, but she's overrated and eventually her bubble's going to pop as the year drags on.

It was like that with the equally large 2012 GOP primary field. Every candidate had a boom until voters finally settled on Romney. Which candidate Democrats will settle on, I don't know. I do know it's early to say it's going to be Warren.

by Anonymousreply 53June 16, 2019 4:45 AM

R38 Pete is monotone and somewhat cold; I don’t find him charismatic at all. If a female candidate had the same characteristics, she’d be torn apart for being too cerebral and unlikable.

by Anonymousreply 54June 16, 2019 5:06 AM

R54, meet Amy Klobuchar.

by Anonymousreply 55June 16, 2019 5:09 AM

I believe the #1 pick for VP by most if not all those running will be the one Dem who didn't declare candidacy but should have: Adam Schiff!

by Anonymousreply 56June 16, 2019 5:13 AM

Andrew Yang

Cute campaign manager

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57June 16, 2019 5:18 AM

r57, I actually like Andrew Yang, but I know he has no chance.

by Anonymousreply 58June 16, 2019 5:28 AM

Stacey Abrams was robbed in Georgia.

by Anonymousreply 59June 16, 2019 5:33 AM

R54 - he's very charismatic. Not all charismatic people are emotional basket cases. And he definitely doesn't come off as cold.

by Anonymousreply 60June 16, 2019 5:41 AM

R60 He comes across as robotic to me. Charisma is subjective, so it’s understandable we have different perspectives. Maybe I just haven’t seen enough of him.

by Anonymousreply 61June 16, 2019 5:52 AM

Probably, R61. He's far from robotic. He comes across as authentic, calm, collected, and empathetic. Not to mention really intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 62June 16, 2019 5:58 AM

She should choose Hillary Clinton

by Anonymousreply 63June 16, 2019 6:57 AM
Trump is very charismatic and his low intellect and jargon driven speeches work in his favor. So yeah, his very charismatic, something sociopath Hilary isn't, unlike her husband Bill.

Hillary Clinton is not a sociopath, you deplorable moron.

by Anonymousreply 64June 16, 2019 7:08 AM

Pete is polling higher than Kamala in every fucking state other than California and South Caroline. Even in those two states, they are statistically tied.

No way is she winning the nomination if Pete can't win.

by Anonymousreply 65June 16, 2019 7:15 AM

Her imaginary friend.

by Anonymousreply 66June 16, 2019 7:33 AM
Kamala doesn't really appeal to the black voters.

Is not and will never be true no matter how many times it is repeated. Harris will take the black vote 5-to-1 against any non-black candidate -- male or female. No one with any political experience and/or with access to credible polling information pertaining to black voters would legitimately question her "appeal" to black voters.

by Anonymousreply 67June 16, 2019 7:40 AM

R55 is right. I think the world of Amy, but she is Tim Kaine without the guitar, or the Spanish.

by Anonymousreply 68June 16, 2019 11:08 AM

Eric Swallwell is sexy as fuck and also extremely boring. He will make a great replacement for Kamala after she wins.

by Anonymousreply 69June 16, 2019 11:08 AM

Talking about sexy, I nominate hot daddy Steve Bullock.

by Anonymousreply 70June 16, 2019 11:26 AM

I hope she is not nominated: the years of claiming NA heritage to improve her career prospects are a disgrace which will just keep on giving to the Repugs.

by Anonymousreply 71June 16, 2019 11:35 AM

Troll at R71 you need to do a better job.....

by Anonymousreply 72June 16, 2019 11:39 AM

Sherrod Brown

by Anonymousreply 73June 16, 2019 11:42 AM

Troll yourself R72.

by Anonymousreply 74June 16, 2019 11:44 AM

R73 not with that voice. Unless it's due to illness, it's inexcusable, an aural assault.

by Anonymousreply 75June 16, 2019 11:56 AM

I love him R73, but they'll just resurrect the fact his ex wife got a restraining order against him 30 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 76June 16, 2019 12:14 PM

We have to get her a running mate who will not cost us a seat in Congress or a state house. Beto is going to lose his seat and so will Swalwell unless they drop out and run for their seats in the House.

by Anonymousreply 77June 16, 2019 12:16 PM

Sherrod could give the Dems Ohio. His ex-wife will stump for him, plus Trump’s a pussy-grabber. What can I say, I’m from Ohio and I like him.

by Anonymousreply 78June 16, 2019 12:19 PM

R75? Are you criticizing the voices of the male candidates as well? No, I didn't think so.

I like the Eric Holder idea.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 79June 16, 2019 12:35 PM

I love Sherrod too. Eric Holder will not sell. He's way too polarizing and outspoken. I'd love to see him on the Supreme Court.

by Anonymousreply 80June 16, 2019 12:39 PM

R20 is delusional. Uneducated, white women voted for Trump. Not VAST amounts of women. He did not have a majority female vote. What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 81June 16, 2019 12:54 PM

The troll who keeps posting that women had their chance with Hillary Clinton is just stupid - THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A WOMAN ON THE PRESIDENTIAL TICKET GOING FORWARD. GET USED TO IT.

Men have been losing presidential elections for over 230 years and nobody is telling them to sit down.

Warren will top the ticket with some combination of Buttigieg or Harris. Trump is losing in over 17 states - including the midwest states of WI & MI, which delivered his narrow win in 2016. Baby boomers will be in the minority for the first time in decades while turnout is already predicted to be through the roof - and record-breaking turnout means disaster for the GOP. DISASTER.

Ignore the trolls because a change is coming and it's not just going to be about getting rid of Trump and taking him out of the WH in handcuffs - it's going to be about REAL CHANGE, real economic, electoral, social and cultural change which will reset the agenda of this country for decades to come.

Americans are rejecting TOTALITARIANISM. Nice try, Trump. And the focus is firmly on the Senate as well.

by Anonymousreply 82June 16, 2019 1:01 PM

As Trump says, Butt - Edge - Edge.

by Anonymousreply 83June 16, 2019 1:18 PM

It will either be Beto, Pete, Castro, Kamala, or Swalwell depending on the candidate.

No one else will be in the conversation.

by Anonymousreply 84June 16, 2019 2:32 PM

Another vote for Sherrod Brown.. Intelligent, funny, well thought of in Ohio (used to live there myself). His spouse is a powerhouse and they're an amazing couple. Also, just me, but the voice is sexy as hell.....

by Anonymousreply 85June 16, 2019 2:34 PM

r65, that is because Biden has her votes. She has not chip away at them yet, but he will come down and she will benefit.

Liz is taking from Bernie and his Bros are trying to stop it on here.

by Anonymousreply 86June 16, 2019 2:44 PM

r81, he had the majority of White women, yes he did.

by Anonymousreply 87June 16, 2019 2:45 PM

It would have to be a popular male celebrity. Infantile U.S. Americans are in constant search for fun and games, and they even want to be entertained by their politicians.

Alec Baldwin? George Clooney? Will Smith?

by Anonymousreply 88June 16, 2019 3:10 PM

Trump got 47% of the White female vote compared to 45% for Hillary. The original citation of 52% of the white female vote for Trump, was from exit polling, and the 47% is the hard actual percentage at a later date. Even so, it is still entirely too high. I'd be curious to know how he is polling among white women today.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 89June 16, 2019 3:13 PM

Here's the thing. THis is a numbers game. So what everyone who is developing strategy, doing polling, handling focus groups, etc. is trying to figure out is how to get to 51%.

So they peel off voters from various demographics. You cobble together 15% of one, and 37% of another, and 45% of something else, and eventually you get the percentage you need to beat your opponent. So a Karl Rove can say, well all we need is 15% of the Black vote. And then there's turnout. suppress turnout in areas that support your opponent.

by Anonymousreply 90June 16, 2019 3:17 PM

John Smith

by Anonymousreply 91June 16, 2019 3:53 PM

Sen Cory Booker!

by Anonymousreply 92June 16, 2019 4:51 PM

By all means, choose Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker if you don't want an electoral vote in a state not touching an ocean, and not even all of them.

by Anonymousreply 93June 16, 2019 4:55 PM

"Are you criticizing the voices of the male candidates as well?"

R79 needs reading lessons. R75 WAS criticizing a male voice.

by Anonymousreply 94June 16, 2019 5:03 PM

All the serious democratic candidates are leading trump in the polls these days but Warren has the tightest lead and in fact trump is ahead in one of them. Her cume right now is 2.8%. That’s basically the same as Harris.

Only lower than that is Pete Buttegieg with a tiny 1.5% lead.

Booker does a bit better than this low polling pack, at 4.7%. Then there’s Sanders with 6.2% and O’Rourke with 6.6%.

At the top of the heap is Biden with an amazing 8.7%.

Frankly if the democrats choose Warren or Harris or Buttegieg, they’re seriously crazy. And I support Harris! Biden is their winner.

by Anonymousreply 95June 16, 2019 5:11 PM
R43: I have a feeling that if he (Trump) loses he will be gone to Moscow on the night of the election so he can't be prosecuted.

I’m reminded of that CIA secretary from the show [italic] “The Americans”, [/italic] who defected to Moscow in the 1970s. They gave her a shitty, though standard, apartment and she had to shop in the standard markets, for turnips and more turnips. Plus turnips.

I am certain Trump will defect and if so, I hope torture and shitty living is his fate, wherever he goes.
R61: [R60] He (Pete) comes across as robotic to me. Charisma is subjective, so it’s understandable we have different perspectives. Maybe I just haven’t seen enough of him

Robotic, thy name is the adorable Eric Swalwell. I love Eric, for his policies, activism, and intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 98June 16, 2019 5:23 PM

No, R97; he's saying that Pete is gay. Read it again.

by Anonymousreply 99June 16, 2019 5:29 PM

R96/Pierre, you forgot the Russkies also gave that secretary a little girl. So then maybe Trump will get one, too. A blonde one, of course.

by Anonymousreply 100June 16, 2019 5:33 PM
We have to get her a running mate who will not cost us a seat in Congress or a state house.

It’s more worrisome when the Governor appoints a replacement mid-cycle, and s/he’s from the Republican Party.

I think the House can find another suitable Democratic candidate to run and replace other candidates running for President. As for the Senate, it depends on the state and situation, but I worry about that, too. Same with Governors. It all depends on each unique situation.

by Anonymousreply 101June 16, 2019 5:34 PM

I don’t think it’ll be Pete. What does he bring to the ticket? Gays who are voting for the Democrat anyway?

He has to be at the top of the ticket, or he’s out.

by Anonymousreply 102June 16, 2019 5:41 PM

R102 Not necessarily. If it *is* Biden at the top of the ticket, there's a good chance he would bring on Pete as his VP. Someone a few "Treason" threads ago mentioned that Biden and Harris wouldn't go well on the same ticket, and that Biden needed someone on the ticket that he feels he could mold or something like that (basically a rehash of Obama/Biden). I can completely see a Biden/Buttigieg ticket.

But I'd rather have a Warren/Buttigieg ticket.

by Anonymousreply 103June 16, 2019 5:47 PM

I just figured it was formulaic and predictable. I can’t figure out the appeal. Charisma, perhaps. Plus, my BIL is always looking for an “angle” where he can get rich without working,

by Anonymousreply 104June 16, 2019 5:47 PM

Mayor Pete.

Harris for Attorney General.

Malcom Nance Intelligence Director

Stacey Abrams UN

by Anonymousreply 105June 16, 2019 5:49 PM

R103. Your obsession with this Pete dude is funny. When the eventual nominee does not pick Pete as vp I wonder what type of breakdown you might have.

by Anonymousreply 106June 16, 2019 5:50 PM

Absolutely ZERO breakdown if Pete isn't on the ticket. And you know what? No matter who the nominee is on the Democratic side, I'm going to vote for them.

Have some faith in your fellow man. Or don't. Just don't be a dick.

by Anonymousreply 107June 16, 2019 5:52 PM

Howard Dean should be Warren's pick for Vice President.

by Anonymousreply 108June 16, 2019 5:56 PM

Um, R106, R103 has just one post on this thread and it shows no "obsession" with Buttigieg. Maybe the "obsession" is on your side?

by Anonymousreply 109June 16, 2019 5:57 PM

R105 While it would be good to "wipe the slate clean" and go with the new guard, it would also be good to have someone in as SoS that is respected. Yes, I do admire John Kerry, but I don't know if he would be the right person for SoS. Maybe a Martin O'Malley.

And since he may well be out of a job come 1/21/21 (though I hope not), it would be pretty awesome to see Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) as the head of the DOJ. It would send a message to the Republicans that you can be a Nazi if you want - but the hate that you inspire in others to commit hate crimes will be prosecuted.

by Anonymousreply 110June 16, 2019 5:57 PM

Thanks, R109, though I will confess to also being like R2 or somewhere way up there. Two posts about Pete as VP. Yeah, I'm completely obsessed. ::snerk::

by Anonymousreply 111June 16, 2019 5:59 PM

R105 And though I adore him, my home state Senator Jeff Merkley needs to be in the winner's cabinet. That way our Democratic governor can run for his seat since she's term limited.

by Anonymousreply 112June 16, 2019 6:03 PM

R104. I think Apprentice was crucial to trump's win. People thought they knew the guy and also that he was some brilliant guy. Seems like a mean-spirited show similar to the tone of his campaign. I never watched it.

by Anonymousreply 113June 16, 2019 6:09 PM

Pete

by Anonymousreply 114June 16, 2019 6:12 PM

Pete needs a cabinet position. Like how Obama gave Castro a cabinet position for executive experience. Pete’s got plenty of time to win the POTUS position!

by Anonymousreply 115June 16, 2019 8:04 PM

R89-- you're misreading that Time article. Pew is still a polling organization. It may seem that their polls are more accurate than the exit polls, but it's still just an estimate based on what people told them, and I suspect some women may have had immediate regrets once Trump actually won and told the pollsters they voted for Hillary. But it's not based on actual votes--that information is not tracked.

R113-- I agree but for different reasons. I think a lot of people thought that the mean spirited asshole they saw during the campaign was just a character Trump was playing (like the one he played on the Apprentice) and that he'd turn out to be sane and stable once he got elected.

Boy were they ever wrong.

by Anonymousreply 116June 16, 2019 10:31 PM

R116, but he’s a successful businessman! He’ll run the country like a business!

by Anonymousreply 117June 16, 2019 10:34 PM

bump, maybe?

I'm resigned to Biden, but he needs to be very careful who he chooses to run with. It will matter. So if he goes with Harris he will win resoundingly. May even be able to win with Warren. Mayor Pete would be a third choice. I also think he might pick a Latino, but not Castro. There are a couple of Democratic House members, Latino women. Strong candidates for VP from California and Texas.

Beto is a fucking disaster. He needs to take his ass home and run for the Senate or...run to be re-elected to his Congressional seat. All these guys running for POTUS haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of winning so why the fuck aren't they taking care of home. How many House members are running right now? All those fuckers will lose their seats if they don't get smart before June of next year. What a waste of time and money. Beto could easily challenge t hat rotten slimeball Cornyn next year and win us a Senate seat in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 119June 17, 2019 8:22 PM

NO NO NO to Sherrod Brown! I like him a lot, but if he wins VP then the GOP governor gets to choose his successor in the Senate and we need every senate seat possible if we’re going to take back the majority and get anything done

by Anonymousreply 120June 17, 2019 9:08 PM

Pete has a horrible record with South Bend, the only saving grace Obama had was he did literally nothing. Even his co-senator from IL, Durbin said all he did as senator was run for president.

Once you have a record to run on Mayor Pete will get thrown to the wolves.

It's ridiculous for anyone to start to run this early, all you do is expose yourself to more of your incompetence that people can dig up.

by Anonymousreply 121June 17, 2019 9:24 PM

Excellent point R 120.

by Anonymousreply 122June 17, 2019 10:51 PM

If HuffPost has its way, Warren will be the nominee. Every day there are attack articles about Biden.

by Anonymousreply 123June 17, 2019 11:05 PM

Not according to the people of South Bend who reelected him by a wide margin, R121

by Anonymousreply 124June 18, 2019 1:44 AM

Warren is the opposite of cold fish, elitist HRC & she CAN win. I love her.

by Anonymousreply 125June 18, 2019 1:46 AM

Biden would lose to Trump. Young folks & progressives hate him.

by Anonymousreply 126June 18, 2019 1:47 AM

R125 you got it. I love her slight wonkiness and smarts and decency. It absolutely fits with her political shift 25 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 127June 18, 2019 1:59 AM

Maybe it'll be Biden-Warren?

by Anonymousreply 128June 18, 2019 2:21 AM

I would really love to see EW (or any other democrat) DESTROY Trump in the debates. Make him look like the complete ass he is. The Deplorables won't care but anyone on the fence could be swayed.

by Anonymousreply 131June 19, 2019 3:37 AM

Has anyone seen a survey about how many trump voters now regret their vote? If any.

by Anonymousreply 132June 19, 2019 7:51 AM

R130 Pete got elected with 8,515 votes. The population of South Bend is 100,000.

by Anonymousreply 133June 19, 2019 8:14 AM

It would be awesome if Bernie and Biden could both die before next year.

by Anonymousreply 134June 19, 2019 8:53 PM
I would really love to see EW (or any other democrat) DESTROY Trump in the debates.

Hillary did that with ease in all three debates, and still lost.

I want to be optimistic but his supporters are as fired up as they ever were, and a big chunk of Democrats are still going to stay home.

The debates mean diddly.

by Anonymousreply 135June 20, 2019 1:46 AM

Hillary didn't lose, and you know it. The Russians manipulated the vote totals, and still, she won the popular vote.

The Democrat will lose again unless we make the voting machines etc. Putin-proofed.

by Anonymousreply 136June 20, 2019 2:07 AM

r136: There have been several Senate bills attempting to block machine hacking and making sure of paper trails. McConnell will not introduce them. That ugly turtle turd is worse than Trump and far more intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 137June 24, 2019 12:53 AM

The only winning ticket will be Gillibrand/Booker.

by Anonymousreply 138June 24, 2019 1:00 AM

r138 Interesting theory. I know it's stll early and we'll know more after the primary debates next week, but neither Gillibrand or Booker are polling at all well. Have always been a Booker fan but I don't think most people like him. They say he's a corporate shill. I have no idea--I think he's very charismatic. (But I only contribute to Pete and E. Warren).

by Anonymousreply 139June 24, 2019 1:15 AM

Did anyone see the footage of Mayor Pete telling a black voter “I’m not asking for your vote” to which she quickly responds with “And you ain’t gonna get it either.” I think that may be the beginning of the end for him.

I think a Warren/Castro ticket would be awesome.

by Anonymousreply 149June 24, 2019 3:03 PM

Would you Mayor Pete fanboys give it a fucking rest already?

You're as bad as the Bernie fanatics.

I don't want someone with only a mayor's level of experience. We need a governor or senator. End of.

And a gay man with "butt" in his name is never going to be on a presidential ticket right now. I don't care how many times it's been said. It is worrh repeating. We need to beat Trump, not demand someone who isn't ready just because we think it'd be cool to have a gay president.

Prediction

Voting machines are hacked by Russia in favor of the democratic candidate. This is made known after the election. GOP tries to get election overturned. Russia admits they did it. The democratic candidate was going to win anyway, but is forever tainted by Russian interference. Mitch McConnell leads the fight against the democratic president. Election overturned. McConnell takes over as President. Amends preamble to the constitution: We the people of Russia, China, the free countries of Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Mississippi, Alabama & Tennessee declare their affiliation with remaining states of America so long as they git what they wants,

by Anonymousreply 157June 24, 2019 5:15 PM

We need to nominate the person who will do the best as President. I think that’s Warren or Harris. It’s not Biden, and it’s not Pete (until he has more national experience).

by Anonymousreply 158June 24, 2019 5:17 PM

R158 we will be nominating Trump. Who will win.

by Anonymousreply 159June 24, 2019 5:20 PM

Pete I'm afraid has had some setbacks recently. He has to do his job as Mayor right now and this will slow his role.

Biden is an awful candidate and he and Bernie will be dropping their % by the end of the year. Bernie by summer will fade out and Biden will slowly start to lose position by the end of the year as others will start to even out with him.

I predict in early 2020, we will likely have , Harris, Warren, as top tier with Biden still strong but behind them, and Beto standing out. Everyone but Bernie will drop out and let the others move forward. It's going to come down to those four and I am hoping it's either Warren or Harris at the top of the ticket. Maybe Harris/Biden. He did a good job as VP for Obama.

by Anonymousreply 160June 24, 2019 5:40 PM
just as there is no "surefire losing ticket

Cranky Disheveled Old Man/Gay Man with Butt in Name is definitely a losing ticket.

by Anonymousreply 161June 24, 2019 7:11 PM

The people who have piled-on Biden for his recent comments about working with segregationists, are a real turn-off for me. I understood Biden to say that he could work with polar opposites for the good of the country. The worse the politicians in his example, the stronger his point. So, this means Boomer and De Blasio have disqualified themselves, in my opinion.

Seriously, does anyone think that Biden is personally racist, or would welcome racist policies? No. Of course not. He spoke unartfully, that’s all.

We should expect more of this until the election. Candidates taking things out of context; interpreting their opponents in the worst possible way; blowing things out of proportion. It all serves the Republicans.

Gillibrand likewise for so quickly turning on Sen Al Franken. I get that she acted about of principle, but I think she was more aggressive about it than she needed to be.

I’ll still vote for whomever the Dens nominate, but just hope Gillibrand, Booker, and De Blasio aren’t on the ticket.

by Anonymousreply 162June 24, 2019 7:33 PM

I think Warren would need a slightly more conservative VP, and a White male. Someone from an important purple state and a state different from Massachusetts. Maybe someone from Florida or Texas.

Maybe Julian Castro would work, even he doesn’t meet all this criteria. Could he carry Texas?

What about Charlie Crist of Florida? Is he reasonably popular, state-wide? Could he carry that state?

Sherrod Brown of Ohio might be a good choice. We’d lose his Senate seat, unless the state laws allow him to run as Senator and VP at the same time. (Lyndon Johnson had Texas state law changed so that he could run for Senator and VP at the same time. I think he won both races.). When Ted Kennedy died, Massachusetts changed its law as to how to fill his Senate seat. I forget how. I think they sped-up the time table for a replacement special election.

What about former Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin? Could he carry the state? Could the country accept a Jewish VP?

by Anonymousreply 163June 24, 2019 7:48 PM

The winning ticket is Oprah/Booker

by Anonymousreply 164June 24, 2019 8:18 PM

Much as I am a huge Warren fan (and female myself FWIW), I think we need a male candidate to win. If I could choose, I would pick Warren/Buttigieg--they are the two best candidates for different reasons. But if getting Trump out is the most important issue (and I think it is), the party will go with Biden if his numbers don't drop too much. Warren might be VP. I don't think Harris polls well enough and she doesn't perform well on stage (and was very unpopular behiind the scenes in San Francisco and Sacramento before she was elected to Senate.) Or they could (and should) pick Stacey Abrams as VP. I still think that's in the wings. SA only said she wouldn't run before the primary with Biden. Biden/Abrams is a very good ticket for the general election.

by Anonymousreply 165June 24, 2019 8:30 PM

Warren faked her ethnicity and that wasn't the end for her. Biden talked about the good ol' times with the segregationists and that wasn't the end of him. So how is some black harpy screaming in Pete's face the beginning of the end for him? This isn't the'90s anymore; people don't care about small stuff like that when there's a rapist scammer in the WH who's running concentration camps right now.

by Anonymousreply 167June 24, 2019 9:18 PM

Warren has to figure out what her deficit is. IMO it's minorities. She needs Kamala. And yes, two women can win. They will get the women's vote they will get minorities. They will get men.

by Anonymousreply 168June 24, 2019 9:49 PM

If they weren't from the same state I would say former Massachusetts Gov Deval Patrick. He oversaw the implementation of the state's 2006 health care reform program which had been enacted under Mitt Romney which is very popular. A white woman, and a black man would make a very electable ticket for Democrats.

R157, there is simply no legal mechanism to overturn a US election for any reason, despite the amount of interference or fraud. The only possible action would be if the members of the Electoral College can be convinced the election was a fraud before they vote and decide to take matters into their own hands, which I view as highly unlikely. Neither congress nor the Supreme Court can void an US Presidential election regardless of who interferes. I suppose Trump could declare Martial Law, but he would lose a lot of support doing that, or a military coup, God forbid.

by Anonymousreply 172June 24, 2019 10:36 PM

I don't think a Democratic ticket that is all white can win, that is unfortunate but most likely the reality of it. Black Democrats should be as willing to vote for whites as white Democrats are willing to vote for a black person. Black turnout was down in 2016 with an all white ticket.

Kamala and Booker are no Obama. Warren doesn't need them. If she were to choose a black VP, I think she should go with Eric Holder

by Anonymousreply 174June 24, 2019 10:54 PM

R174 Oooh now that would be an interesting ticket.

Kamala has delivered some really amazing speeches, but I just don’t see her getting the nom. Booker is meh.

by Anonymousreply 175June 24, 2019 11:11 PM

R167 First of all she wasn’t screaming in his face. Second, his flippant “I didn’t ask for your vote” isn’t going to play well with black voters. The responses alone from Black Twitter is very telling.

by Anonymousreply 176June 24, 2019 11:15 PM

R173 It's completely understandable that the AA community might be more inclined to support a ticket with a qualified black candidate. They are major component of the Democrat party, particularly black women, and they deserve a seat at the table. Without the progressive left leaning AA community, this country would be a white Christian Taliban.

by Anonymousreply 177June 24, 2019 11:19 PM

Warren never faked her ethnicity. Her 23-and-me test validated her claim that she had Native American ancestors.

by Anonymousreply 178June 24, 2019 11:23 PM

Alot of black people lie about Native American ancestry (and having a Cherokee grandma). It's become something of an inside joke so that is not going to hurt Warren in the SC primary

I thought his point was that he wasn’t there to ask for votes, he was their to address the matter and listen to their concerns. No?

by Anonymousreply 180June 25, 2019 12:37 AM

R179 A significant proportion of the US black population does indeed have Native American blood as a result of miscegenation laws which allowed and codified interracial marriage between blacks and Native Americans. The most renowned example of this confluence of ethnicities is in Louisiana, especially New Orleans and Metairie.

by Anonymousreply 181June 25, 2019 12:58 AM

Most of the tribe members in the tribes that operate the Connecticut casinos look more African American than Native American.

by Anonymousreply 182June 25, 2019 1:05 AM

R181, I know. Alot of Af Americans do have Native ancestry but it's become a meme for any black with "good hair" to say they got Indian in their family. It's a running joke.

My point is this won't hurt Liz at all. The only person who cares about the Native American ancestry is Trump. He will keep baiting her with the Pocahontas name

by Anonymousreply 183June 25, 2019 3:21 AM

Since Liz reads this, what kind of Pocahontas comebacks could she use against Tramp in a debate?

"Stop being so childish"?

by Anonymousreply 184June 25, 2019 4:07 AM

R184, how about...

DJT: “Excuse me, excuse me”

EW: you’re excused, Donald, but please control yourself when it’s not your turn to speak.

Something like that.

by Anonymousreply 185June 25, 2019 4:18 AM

She'll clean his clock in the debates, but then aoesis Hillary and we know how that turned out.

The one benefit to Warren is she seems to meet the progressive smell test of the Bernie bros, while not actually being Bernie. And thus has an appeal for other Dems who hate that cranky 80 year old and his followers.

And that's what we need--to get everyone out and voting.

by Anonymousreply 186June 25, 2019 10:58 AM

aoesis? Just wondering, not -oh, dear-ing.

by Anonymousreply 187June 25, 2019 11:58 AM
Alot of black people lie about Native American ancestry (and having a Cherokee grandma). It's become something of an inside joke so that is not going to hurt Warren in the SC primary

It isn't a deliberate or thoughtless lie, like Warren. Many black families have created stories about Native American ancestry to obscure the oftentimes sordid reality of having European ancestry dating back to a time when biracial heritage carried the stigma of coercion and/or illegitimacy. So the mixed-race ancestor with pale skin, high cheekbones and long braided hair to her waist is called "cherokee" so that no one has the explain that her 13 year old black mother was raped by a white man.

by Anonymousreply 188June 25, 2019 1:03 PM

^^^^I don't think Warren believed she had significant native American ancestry. I think she knowingly claimed a heritage that wasn't hers to concoct an exotic political identity. That is why the "Pocahontas" slur is not as outrageous as it should be.

by Anonymousreply 189June 25, 2019 1:09 PM

R187 I think...that was meant to be "so did."

by Anonymousreply 190June 25, 2019 1:32 PM

OK. I' m Black and our family was very into genealogical research. We have white ancestors, former slaves, and Native American ancestors. When the Cherokee resettlement was happening through the Carolinas and Georgia, Trail of Tears, etc. etc. I mean we've gone back to the early 1700's. Our ancestors were British, and I can even tell you the specific city in England that they came from.

I can also tell you about my Native American ancestor. Fact is, right after the Civil War, one of my ancestors went "to the Indian Territory." and he got himself a wife. And she was a full blooded Native American. A Cherokee. (My great Auntie, the baby in the family, had rich, brownleatthery complexion, and her hair was totally and completely straight. Completely. And right up until she died it was a steel grey, not white grey. She was 90. Her Grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee.

There were Black soldiers who fought in the Civil War. Some of them, along with freed AAs went west. Documented fact. It would really be great if more people...white people and Back people, would read American History. It's fascinating. Particularly African American political history. So many people have just the crudest, most basic awareness of what has happened.

AA have only been legally "free" for about 150 years. and throughout that period, as most of us know, we were still heavily discriminated against and persecuted. This country, man. We have to keep fighting to realize our ideals, and live up to them. Gays, Women, African Americans,Latinos. We're all "Others." But the reality is that we are much closer to the true meaning of America than anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 191June 25, 2019 3:39 PM

Yes, she Was screeching at him, [R176]. And the media didn't quote Buttigeig fully. What he said was "I'm not here for your votes, I'm here to talk to the community" (paraphrasing here, sorry). Translation: I'm not here campaigning I'm here as the Mayor letting you scream at me because that's my job. NOT I'm not asking for your vote because you're black, so fuck off.

So chill out and work on your reading comprehension.....

by Anonymousreply 192June 25, 2019 3:45 PM

When it comes to minority voters there is a misimpression among too many so-called political analysts on TV, that all minority voters share the exact same sentiments and vote as a block. Block voting is a myth based on the old days of political bosses and immigrant constituencies in places like New York, Boston and Chicago. Then of course there was the labor union movement that gave their members marching orders and they voted as one.

But there was an erosion in the Block voting phenomenon that began occurring in ways you could actually see, right around the time of the Great Depression. With African Americans, those who were allowed to vote were previously, solidly Republican, the party of Lincoln. But the fragmentation began to appear post Reconstruction when some who went to WW I, came home and were beginning to become radicalized.

You had Conservative, separatists like Marcus Garvey (who was also an FBI informant) and conservatives like Booker T. Washington, and others like W.E.B. Dubois who were integrationists and swung Left. There were those who saw the union movement as an opportunity to achieve economy parity and racial equality along side white allies, and others who sought leadership through the Black Churches, which could embrace a segregationist, conservative perspective, or a Progressive perspective.

But the myth of block voting by African Americans was just as false as it was among other ethnic groups. There are a lot of Black Conservatives who repeatedly get overlooked. They are very church centered. They believe in capitalism, and while charitable, they're definitely "bootstrap" types who believe in small business and entrepreneurship. I say all of this to say, that among more conservative AAs, women presidential candidates or Gay presidential candidates are not going to win much support no matter what ethnicity they are.

by Anonymousreply 193June 25, 2019 4:05 PM
I say all of this to say, that among more conservative AAs, women presidential candidates or Gay presidential candidates are not going to win much support no matter what ethnicity they are.

The black conservatives you describe are a tiny subset of the black electorate. Black churchfolk are the core of any black candidate's support. Black folks ALWAYS bet on black -- a lesson the dark past has taught us. I mean, Colin Powell endorsed Obama over McCain. Black people would have made Stacey Abrams governor of GEORGIA but for a widespread, calculated campaign of voter suppression by her opponent -- Secretary of state and supervisor of elections. So the real myth is that blacks will not vote for a female candidate, or a gay one (Mayor Lightfoot).

by Anonymousreply 194June 25, 2019 4:48 PM

Sherrod Brown 2020 = Tim Kaine 2016. It will be a female VP nominee who will run with Biden.

by Anonymousreply 195June 25, 2019 5:20 PM

It won't be Sherrod Brown. Yes, if Warren is the nominee, she wouldn't take a sitting senator from a vulnerable state. It would be a male to combat the casual misogyny that exists, but it would someone more like a Buttigieg, O'Rourke, or Booker.

by Anonymousreply 196June 25, 2019 5:23 PM

Watch the debates tonight & tomorrow and look to see who is auditioning for the VP ticket. Might be more pronounced tonight since Warren is the only big polling numbers politico on stage.

by Anonymousreply 197June 26, 2019 5:27 PM

I say two women.Elizabeth and Kamala. The only other person who makes sense to me is Julian Castro. He is very effective and hasn't been given enough media attention until recently. In fact my 3 candidates for Elizabeth are #1. Kamala #2 Julian Castro, # 3 Pete Buttigeig #4 Michael Bennet.

by Anonymousreply 198July 4, 2019 10:56 PM

Warren would probably take Castro.

by Anonymousreply 199July 4, 2019 11:09 PM

Castro or Booker, definitely not Kamala. Castro before Booker, I think.

by Anonymousreply 200July 4, 2019 11:12 PM

Castro is so ugly though. She really needs someone a little easier on the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 201July 4, 2019 11:45 PM

How could she take Castro, who made the most idiotic statement ever in a debate? When we talk about abortion, we can't forget the TRANS community? Is he mentally impaired, or what?

by Anonymousreply 202July 5, 2019 12:12 AM

He said nothing wrong but it's such a marginal issue... I don't know, man. I recall hearing the exact same thing on Lovett or Leave It a couple of weeks ago (along with the term "reproductive justice"), and I bet he copied it from there. Listen, I love that show to death but it clearly has a coastal sensibility ot it, to put it obliquely. Are those really the voters he should be courting at this point in time?

by Anonymousreply 203July 5, 2019 12:18 AM

I’ve written this before but, about Warren’s Indian Heritage...

The branch of my family with my surname came to Massachusetts Bay Colony about 1635. One married into the family of Moses Maverick, of Mayflower heritage. It’s through the Mavericks that I trace my direct lineage to Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, King and Queen of England, c. 1150 A.D.; and further back to Charlemagne, King of Italy and of the Franks, and Holy Roman Emperor, c. 800 A.D. I can trace one line further back to a Consul of Rome, c. 400 A.D.

While all of that is true, I have a letter from 1860 written by my great-great Grandfather, b. 1813, in which he relates the family history to his niece. His story was the one retold by my great aunts to my father, and then to me. His story gets some things absolutely right, some things absolutely wrong, and some things that are indeterminate.

He wrote that his grandfather lost a leg at the Battle of Bunker Hill at age 14. Well, I found that his town sent a militia which engaged the British in the battle, and he enlisted in the Continental Army in Boston the following week. We don’t know if he travelled with the militia to the battle, and he almost certainly lost his leg later in life, not in that battle. But I grew up certain that my ancestor forgot at Bunker Hill and had a letter from 1860 and pension records to prove it. I now think it more likely that he was inspired by the stories he heard of the battle from his friends who were there, and then immediately enlisted. There is nothing strange or dishonest in having and believing a family history that you have heard from your youngest days.

Warren got no benefits from claiming Indian ancestry, as attested by her employers and peers, except at having a cocktail party story that is only interesting because of the irony of being a blond haired Midwesterner with the Indian background. And the evidence has proven that she does indeed have Indian DNA consistent with her original claim.

So, stop it already with the criticism on this basis. That criticism is the only dishonest part of Warren’s story.

Now bow-down, and walk backwards as you exist, so as not to turn your back to us.

r204 Well, there's an American Indian in another thread who doesn't see it that way, so I don't know, perhaps we should listen to those that her actions actually concern instead.

R205, I really think it’s silly to think Warren’s actions somehow “concern” any one person on this board more than any one other person.

I used personal experience to illustrate some basic facts about the subject. It shouldn’t matter what your own ancestry is to understand my argument.

Anyone who is determined to peddle that bullshit about Warren is carrying Trump's water, and is trolling.Fuck off.

I think once the main brunt of the progressive candidates lose by Super Tuesday, you see a few candidates left including Biden, Warren, Bernie, Pete and possibly Kamala. I suspect the majority of the progressives will get behind Bernie and Warren and that could cut Biden out. If Warren is winning over Bernie, he could drop out and tell his voters to vote for Warren and that might be enough to win the nomination.

Sherrod Brown should run and she should be his VP, sorry.

If Trump brings up Pocahontas slur at a debate, Warren should take out a tomahawk and scalp him. On Live TV. And then hurl his scalp into the audience and dance feverishly on stage.

Sherrod Brown's voice is like listening to a buzz saw. For some people (me among them), that's really a deal breaker. Some of us are just wired against unpleasant voices and the converse (Mayor Pete's voice is wonderful and soothing, and he says very intelligent and articulate things with it. ) Sherrod Brown may sell well in Ohio. He's a little too old school too, although I basically like his positions.

The Warren campaign put out feelers to the Christmas Moose, but he declined the VP slot because he is apolitical and thinks feelers are a little creepy.

It’s Friday night jazz night!
