I need some tech help guys.
I'm trying to hook up a Firestick (a 2018 4K) to a relative's digital TV without an Alexa hooked up to it.
Is this possible? So far I'm not having any luck.
I'be done a Google search & the results were lousy.
I've watched Youtube videos (under 4 min.) but nothing helpful comes up.
Any DL help would be appreciated as I'm getting a headache over this.
Thanks in advance.

Not having any luck how / why / describe please.

What's to understand? Put it into the HDMI port, plug it in.

I can't even find the set up screen for the Firestick so far.
I know I have all of the wires connected correctly & the remote batteries in correctly (it lights up & I held down the home button like the instructions say to do).
Do you know if an active Alexa is mandatory for getting a Firestick set up on a digital TV?
It's past service hours for my wi fi company so if I need their help it would have to be tomorrow.
I have my wi fi password & amazon password ready to be typed in whenever I find the set up screen.

You mean an Echo? No, you don't need one. Alexa is built into the stick.

Are you on the right input for the TV?

Also the wi fi router is about 30 feet from her wall mounted tv (in another room).
Will the tv even get a signal that far away?
I know nothing about wi fi or firesticks in the first place.

Is the firestick connected to your wifi network?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 3, 2019 1:21 AM

There was only one place on the back of her tv that the cable would fit in (I followed the instructions to the letter).
She has plenty of [plug ins on the back (it's not an old tv).
Right now I have her tv going thru rf channels to see what's there.
Is that a waste of time?
R8 Not yet. I can't even get a start up screen to connect it to my wi fi network.

Is the firestick being powered? Do you have the firestick plugged in via the whatever-USB cable into a power source / is the adaptor plugged in?

I believe the source of your problem is that your friend asked you for tech help.

Plugged into a wall outlet I mean.

I've done everything up to 1:33 on R11's video .
After that I'm lost.

It will not be an RF channel. This is not an over-the-air device.
You need to figure out whichever HDMI input you have it it, and switch the TV to display that input.

R15 Thank you for the RF channel info.
I know I have the Firestick in the right HTMI plug but I'm not getting in any firestick screen.
Should the firestick screen show up automatically?
Is 30 feet from a wi fi modem too far for it to be used in the first place?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 3, 2019 1:29 AM
|
As R15 said, you have to set the TV to HDMI input.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 3, 2019 1:32 AM
|
You should see the screen regardless of whether or not the device is connected to a wifi network.
Are you sure you have the correct input selected: HDMI1 etc?
Also... is the TV possibly in standby mode?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 3, 2019 1:32 AM

I found the start up screen finally. I'll check back in in a few minutes.
Thanks everyone.
So far the 30 plus feet doesn't seem to be an issue.

You should be fine with the router. But what you need to do is find the right input.
Look on the remote for something that something like "Source" or "Home." That should give you a list of all the different inputs.

Other possibility : the outlet that you're plugging the firestick into is dead.

I literally had to ask that question anytime someone had an issue with a payroll software package when I was working at a small software company during high school. And these people were in their 20's.

But it was also 1998, so there's that.

Though not surprising R25
A lot of gay men take on the helpless damsel role when it comes to traditional "masculine" things like installing tech, changing a tire, sawing off a stray branch, following a football game.

If the remote is not pairing to operate the fire stick then you have to send it back and get a new fire stick. Are you sure u have selected the correct input?
Fire sticks totally bite. You should get a Roku.

Now gadgets make someone a manly man? Oh dear.
But that's really not true in my experience, most gay guys I know are tech savvy iPhone addicts.

My "wretched" ass?
My TV is fine, I have my PS4 instead of a dipshit whorebag X-box with its bulbous controller for children, an Apple TV instead of a dipshit whorebag Roku Box which has access to my entire media library and a Chromecast for shits and gigs. It is also an OLED TV, because I don't like gaming on a piece of shit.
What do you have going on, Fortnite-tard?

You just proved how stupid you are because you can’t figure out how to access your media from a Roku. You have to have Apple do it for you wah wah! And why anyone would waste time let alone money on Chrome ast just goes to prove how stupid you are. Fuck you.

I finally did it.
My retirement age relative is watching her favorite show now after a couple of years of being unable to.
She has no clue about the remote.
I will have to talk her thru it later.
Thanks everyone especially R15 who got me out of the RF channels.

Has an NVIDIA Shield running Kodi, Retroarch and a Plex server and looks down at everyone else in this thread.

Plex would be worth my time if I didn't have everything else doctored to work with iTunes already.
Kodi - don't need it.
Retroarch, I already run OpenEmu and have a connection to my TV, don't need it.
Also, fuck android. I have a Mac i.e. I prefer Unix.

Bump b/c I need help.
I recently downloaded PlutoTV and feel I don't need cable at all now. Are there any other Apps I should look for?
Also, why do people swear Roku is superior to the Firestick ? Like what specific apps does it have that the Firestick doesn't ?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 19, 2019 11:36 AM

My impression is that Roku has access to a lot more channels/services than anything from Amazon.
