Booker can’t draw a crowd

His kickoff event due to start imminently-and no one’s there.

by Anonymousreply 148April 17, 2019 2:34 AM

Not surprised. He’s inauthentic somehow.

by Anonymousreply 1April 13, 2019 3:59 PM

Inauthentic and unhinged.

by Anonymousreply 2April 13, 2019 4:00 PM

Closets are suffocating.

by Anonymousreply 3April 13, 2019 4:01 PM

will he use this "rally' to close up shop, then?

by Anonymousreply 4April 13, 2019 4:03 PM

You mean his Hillary hating beard isn't helping him? Shocker!

by Anonymousreply 5April 13, 2019 4:03 PM

I just got this text. Not sure why. Perhaps the should have tried this before 45 minutes until speech.

[quote]Hi, this is Michael w/ Cory 2020! Cory's getting on stage TODAY at 1pm @ Military Park in Newark. Can you make it? LMK if you have Qs.

by Anonymousreply 6April 13, 2019 4:14 PM

Bye Felicia

by Anonymousreply 7April 13, 2019 4:17 PM

That's embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 8April 13, 2019 4:31 PM

"Justice For All" = except for friends like Jussie of course.

by Anonymousreply 9April 13, 2019 4:33 PM

He seems like a nice guy, but I have no idea what he stands for.

by Anonymousreply 10April 13, 2019 4:37 PM

R6 " OK I am LYK that I have a Q. Is Cory LGBTQIAPOC+2?"

by Anonymousreply 11April 13, 2019 4:38 PM

Newark police tell CNN: they were planning for a crowd of as many as 10,000 people for Cory Booker’s kickoff rally. The program still hasn’t started (it was set to begin at 11:30a), but it’s clear the attendance is far smaller than expected.

by Anonymousreply 12April 13, 2019 4:54 PM

There’s really no way to spin this turnout for Booker. It was rainy early this morning but had cleared by the time I arrived on site around 9a. Now it’s sunny and beautiful. No problems with security/folks accessing the site.

by Anonymousreply 13April 13, 2019 4:55 PM

Pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 14April 13, 2019 4:56 PM

This has to hurt. Not even sure how you continue after this. Looks like the high school football stands for a team that never wins.

Particularly insulting because he’s doing this in a highly liberal area with a huge population. And I suspect Buttigieg’s rollout will be huge and it’s in the middle of nowhere.

Serves Booker right for bearding with that Hillary hating bitch.

by Anonymousreply 15April 13, 2019 4:57 PM

Booker’s desperate to be Obama 2.0. About 16 other candidates will be joining him in the loser bin.

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2019 4:57 PM

Ha! Ha!

by Anonymousreply 18April 13, 2019 5:00 PM

Mostly it seems like poor planning.

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2019 5:01 PM

A lot of his supporters are probably at Coachella. That's why no one is there.

by Anonymousreply 20April 13, 2019 5:04 PM

Cory must be raging inside seeing all of the press and buzz an openly gay candidate is getting.

It's going to be too embarrassing to come out now. This means several more years, if not an entire lifetime, of bearding stunts.

by Anonymousreply 21April 13, 2019 5:06 PM

Maybe because his gayness is one of politic's worst kept secrets and they are weary of fakeness. Pete Buttegieg is open and out. Chicago has a black openly lesbian mayor. Bridgeport, PA's mayor is a gay black man fighting racism and homophobia every day. Just come out Corey. Of course now it would look pandering, but whatever.

by Anonymousreply 22April 13, 2019 5:07 PM

It's that wonky eye! It scares people -

by Anonymousreply 23April 13, 2019 5:14 PM

He talks like a preacher. He should’ve announced his candidacy at a Baptist Church.

by Anonymousreply 24April 13, 2019 5:21 PM

R24, absolutely. Then he could have complete control over the crowd optics.

Also, people in the Northeast have many other ways to spend a Saturday. A presidential announcement isn't going to be a big deal like in a small town in the Midwest.

by Anonymousreply 25April 13, 2019 5:24 PM

He seems inauthentic because he’s lying about the most essential part of himself: HE’S GAY.

by Anonymousreply 26April 13, 2019 5:28 PM

That is so embarrassingly cringey. He must be humiliated.

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2019 5:30 PM

R26 the times changed too fast for him.

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2019 5:31 PM

What’s the big deal? Just declare it the biggest crowd ever.

by Anonymousreply 29April 13, 2019 5:34 PM

R15: Shut up about Hillary already, she's gone. NO ONE wants to hear about her or who done her wrong 3 fucking years ago. If that is your criteria for supporting a candidate this go around, you need serious help. And I don't even support Coriander!

by Anonymousreply 30April 13, 2019 5:40 PM

Who was he? Who did he hope to be?

by Anonymousreply 31April 13, 2019 5:41 PM

When did he get so preachery? I had seen him years ago and thought he had a pretty good presentation and disposition . He is getting some bad advice ( just saw a clip of the rally)

by Anonymousreply 32April 13, 2019 5:44 PM

not surprising at all, and despite the press buildup and the polls for biden, he isnt going to draw crowds either. people with no imagination, or zero knowledge of current politics recognize the name of biden and that is why his poll #s are what they are.

by Anonymousreply 33April 13, 2019 5:47 PM

Purses are flying in all directions.

by Anonymousreply 34April 13, 2019 5:54 PM

R31 - he is SPARTACUS!

by Anonymousreply 35April 13, 2019 6:02 PM

R3 Do you not believe in the love between him and Rosario?

by Anonymousreply 36April 13, 2019 6:06 PM

Why is he wearing a suit and tie? Way too formal for a weekend outdoor event. Sets the wrong note. You never see Beto dressed like this.

Why is he bald?

by Anonymousreply 41April 13, 2019 6:32 PM

R41 Let Me Know if you have any questions

by Anonymousreply 42April 13, 2019 6:33 PM

He's playing Michael Jackson music? Is he going to talk about Leaving Neverland?

by Anonymousreply 43April 13, 2019 6:56 PM

R43 Maybe he's also a pedophile who hates the color of his own skin.

by Anonymousreply 44April 13, 2019 6:58 PM

He seems so insincere.

by Anonymousreply 45April 13, 2019 7:24 PM

I posted r45 before I saw r1. I completely agree. It's hard to say why he makes that impression.

by Anonymousreply 46April 13, 2019 7:25 PM

What [R22] said.

by Anonymousreply 47April 13, 2019 7:28 PM

He didn't really play MJ music, did he?

by Anonymousreply 48April 13, 2019 7:38 PM

Will he shed tears of rage when he sees that crowd?

by Anonymousreply 49April 13, 2019 7:43 PM

When you really think about it both sides have really weak candidates.

Miss Cory is a complete mess.

by Anonymousreply 50April 13, 2019 7:58 PM

I have my favorites but none of them are worth getting out of bed for until we see them on the big stage. After the first debate, I think people will ready to start publicly supporting candidates. Most Dems I know are worried sick about Trump getting a second term, a very likely scenario, thus we need someone that can handle the job. Cory is such a weak candidate that I wouldn't even want him to be VP. I'd think being a senator would be better than a cabinet position, but I may be wrong.

We want to avoid backing a Robot Rubio. Great on paper, terrible at game time.

by Anonymousreply 51April 13, 2019 8:33 PM

r50 not really. Republican's have an absolute rockstar candidate that fires up his base. If we don't beat him in 2020, then he will turned into a God-like figure 10x worse than Reagan. Trust me the Republicans don't need to worry right now. Depending on our candidate, that could change , but the economy, Trumps effective communication, and Republicans hatred for a everyone else gives him a major boost.

by Anonymousreply 52April 13, 2019 8:36 PM

A candidate with a weak platform will not be able to defeat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 53April 13, 2019 8:36 PM

KEEP AMERICA GREAT!

by Anonymousreply 54April 13, 2019 8:44 PM

Hilarious!

Not as sad as Jeb! asking his crowd to clap for him, but sad nonetheless.

by Anonymousreply 55April 13, 2019 9:01 PM

He unofficially announced a couple of months ago. Why is he having the official announcement today. He lost his initial momentum.

by Anonymousreply 56April 13, 2019 9:03 PM

Yes R48, there was MJ music playing at the rally.

by Anonymousreply 57April 13, 2019 10:09 PM

Buttigieg is having his rollout tomorrow and Chasten has been tweeting about it. They are inviting people from out of town to come. I’ve seen tweets from gays from several states away saying they are bringing their family members because to them it’s like blacks waiting for Obama’s announcement for the 2008 election.

It will be interesting to see how many come for this.

So what about Booker? Is he making his announcement to an empty lawn? How depressing for him.

by Anonymousreply 58April 13, 2019 10:21 PM

Yes, Booker really did play Michael Jackson music.

by Anonymousreply 59April 13, 2019 10:40 PM

Cory Booker is unauthentic because he couldn't stop lying on CNN about healthcare in America.

by Anonymousreply 62April 13, 2019 11:08 PM

It would be nice but he won’t do it before the debates. Hell I’d reckon he’ll keep going through the southern primaries, figuring he can make up for lost ground there.

by Anonymousreply 63April 13, 2019 11:10 PM

Not quite empty, around 4000 people showed up (after they delayed the start by 2 hours.) They were expecting 10,000 so less than half what they planned for. Pretty disappounting turnout on a beautiful spring day in his hometown. Remember the crowds Klobuchar got at her kickoff in Minnesota, waiting for hours in a blizzard?

I’ll be interested to see Butta-however it’s spelled’s crowd tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 66April 13, 2019 11:40 PM

I was so pissed when they chose this dolt to speak at my college graduation. We had Whoopi the year before and Aileen Quinn from Annie spoke at Monmouth University that same week.

Screw you, Montclair State.

by Anonymousreply 67April 13, 2019 11:52 PM

This is not a defense of Jeb! Bush generally, because I loathe him, but if you watch that "Please clap" clip below, it appears that he's sort of joking rather than pathetically pleading.

It is true that the audience is not reacting strongly to what should have been an applause line. But he's wearing a half-smile, as if aware that he just doesn't have it but protocol demands a little something from the crowd.

I'm glad he's gone from the political scene, along with his entire family, but what's wrong with him is a lot worse than his tired homilies and lack of spark.

by Anonymousreply 68April 13, 2019 11:55 PM

Maybe no one wanted to go because it was in Newark and they were afraid for their lives?

Did anyone question how he expects to effect change in the US when he’s done essentially nothing to help Newark? Other than raising awareness of himself and PR baiting?

by Anonymousreply 69April 13, 2019 11:57 PM

Cory Booker used to be close to Michael Jackson and Roseanne Barr’s Rabbi Smulley. Smulley was always out there doing or for the child molester. Booker may still be close to him for all I know../

by Anonymousreply 70April 14, 2019 12:00 AM

I guess the world is more ready for white gay men than black gay men (and white gay women).

by Anonymousreply 71April 14, 2019 12:06 AM

Sorry, Hil. Can’t keep hiding an unelectable candidate behind the veil of race and gender.

[QUOTE]I'm glad he's gone from the political scene, along with his entire family, but what's wrong with him is a lot worse than his tired homilies and lack of spark.

Believe me, the Bushes are far from over. They’re like the Kennedys. Got all sorts of children and grandchildren and great grandchildren getting ready to enter politics, along with Jeb’s son George P. who’s probably on the verge of becoming governor of Texas soon.

by Anonymousreply 73April 14, 2019 12:12 AM

A candidate with a small crowd of supporters will not be able to defeat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 74April 14, 2019 12:20 AM

It’s RACISM that prevented a black leader from drumming up interest in a predominantly black city!

by Anonymousreply 75April 14, 2019 12:30 AM

George Bush had to rehabilitate himself after being arrested for stalking/threatening his ex gf. In the age of MeToo George will never get beyond Texas as he is one creepy dude.

by Anonymousreply 76April 14, 2019 12:38 AM

Mist be humiliating for Cory who takes credit for resurrecting Newark's downtown business district. While he was busy courting businesses, his peeps got left behind. Guess they had no reason to show up.

by Anonymousreply 77April 14, 2019 12:44 AM

MeToo only hurts Democrats. Considering we have a rapist president with a good chance of being re-elected, I don’t think it would’ve hurt Bush all that much today.

by Anonymousreply 78April 14, 2019 12:44 AM

Newark is a fucking shithole!

by Anonymousreply 79April 14, 2019 12:53 AM

Booker and Beto are the two weirdest candidates I've ever seen. Mayor Pete believes in virtually the same policies, but he does it in a calm, reasonable way, unlike the flailing arms and revival-type rhetoric of the Wacky Duo.

by Anonymousreply 80April 14, 2019 12:53 AM

It's sad he couldn't fill the crowd considering he represented the city and supposedly saved it or something. He's inauthentic and there's too many better options. My guess is he stays in till Iowa and makes a deal to get out, although I'm not sure we'll know by then who he should be making the deal with.

by Anonymousreply 81April 14, 2019 12:57 AM

He's so fucking butch!

He is best suited to his current job. Nowadays, everyone thinks they have to run for president.

by Anonymousreply 84April 14, 2019 1:05 AM

No Democrat will have as easy/ better chance of being elected than in 2020. It's why the field is so crowded.

by Anonymousreply 85April 14, 2019 1:08 AM

Booker would certainly have a lot of energy, passion and drive to beat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 86April 14, 2019 1:29 AM

"Inauthentic Booker" - Trump

by Anonymousreply 87April 14, 2019 1:32 AM

He says his romantic life is "still evolving" (WaPo today). At 50.

by Anonymousreply 88April 14, 2019 1:43 AM

Correct. All his supporters are at Coachella and using the drugs that support the drug firms that support him. It's the circle of life.

by Anonymousreply 89April 14, 2019 1:45 AM

That's what life's all about. Evolving.

by Anonymousreply 90April 14, 2019 1:46 AM

He speaks in platitudes.

by Anonymousreply 91April 14, 2019 1:53 AM

And we get to see real excitement with Mayor Pete's announcement tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 92April 14, 2019 2:20 AM

There are too many candidates and it's too early! People will not really start paying attention until January as they gear up for the primaries.

by Anonymousreply 93April 14, 2019 2:30 AM

R33, name recognition has nothing to do with low turnout today. The rally was held in Newark (a city where Booker was mayor for years) which is in NJ (a state where he is currently a senator). I can understand if people in bumfuck Iowa don't recognize him, but not Newark, NJ.

by Anonymousreply 94April 14, 2019 2:40 AM

He has a mouth full of mush like this —

“The only way to overcome tough challenges is by extending grace, finding common ground, and working together.”

‘Extending grace’?? wtf does that even mean? He’s such a fucking poser. Phony ass.

by Anonymousreply 95April 14, 2019 2:43 AM

Buttigeig's announcement has been moved inside because of really lousy weather. It will be held in an old Studebaker Automobile factory building instead of outside and they have cut the expected attendance in half to 5,000.

Too bad he couldn't have held it today in South Bend the weather was sunny and beautiful but I suppose he didn't want to mess with Booker's announcement plus Notre Dame was holding their intra squad spring football game today.

Picture is where the announcement will be held, but it has been cleaned out for the announcement.

by Anonymousreply 114April 14, 2019 2:55 PM

Yeah even when Booker was Mayor of Newark, I never enjoyed hearing him speak. He used to pop up on MSNBC and I’d either tune out or change the channel.

In fact the only people from this group whom I enjoy hearing from are Mayor Pete, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Tim Ryan and Andrew Yang. There’s an authenticity and ownership behind their words that I don’t feel when all these other clowns speak.

by Anonymousreply 116April 14, 2019 3:33 PM

Booker lost me with that well rehearsed bit at the Kavanaugh confirmation. It didn't seem genuine but more like "I'm going to be running for president"
