Kate wanted to name this song "A Deal with God", but the record company were reluctant to release a song with "God" in the title in case it was seen as blasphemous.

So yes, that was my first post and I’m obviously eldergay and moronic. I do realize it would hve looked better with line breaks for each song and I swear on my gay card that I did press return after each song. But I’m an idiot so of course I screwed it up.

Rick Springfield: Jessie's Girl
J Geils Band: Centerfold
Depeche Mode: Just Can't Get Enough

Growing up in Europe, we only had MTV and they would play Black and Tanita Tikaram alongside Beastie Boys, a-ha, Madonna, or what have you. Basically, their motto was: if there's an audience for this, we'll play it.

People have started posted any tired, overplayed North American Top 40 garbage but if the OP wants something obscure (at least in the English-speaking countries, it was a big hit elsewhere) which is amazing in a life changing sort of way, here's Matia Bazar with "Ti Sento".
by Anonymous | reply 213 | April 8, 2019 5:12 PM |
Hot oiled up boys on Mediterranean beaches still come to mind when I hear this. It's a bit hard to believe all of continental Europe was captivated by this in the summer of 1983, but it was.

Here's one off the beaten path -- Brian Briggs, "See You On The Other Side", 1981. (real name: John Holbrook, a well-respected mixer & sound engineer who worked with The Who, Hendrix & The Isley Brothers). I have no idea how popular it was in the UK, but it was the 40th most-requested song on KROQ (L.A.) in 1981. I still think it sounds fucking awesome.

The Untouchables, "Free Yourself" (1984). L.A.-area Ska band. A few of their songs charted in the UK, but otherwise they weren't well-known outside of Southern California. I remember they played on the UCLA campus a couple times as part of a "free" concert series, when I was a freshman/sophomore. (paid for by our Assoc. Students fees). Good times!

When the playlist is complete, I will post.
Had no idea I'd get so many responses. Thanks!

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
