Joker First Trailer Stuns CinemaCon, Critics Compare Footage to ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Requiem for a Dream’
|by Anonymous||reply 123||04/14/2019|
The first poster for Joaquin Phoenix's #Joker has arrived.
Co-star Marc Maron described 'Joker' as a "very interesting approach to this world." See what else he had to say about the film
|by Anonymous||reply 1||04/02/2019|
I hate Joaquin Phoenix wish they had cast someone else.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||04/02/2019|
I do too.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||04/02/2019|
r2 Then why make this thread about this movie nobody gives a shit about?
|by Anonymous||reply 4||04/02/2019|
If the trailer is so awesome why isn't it on the internet already?
|by Anonymous||reply 5||04/02/2019|
Rooney is rumored to be a lezzie.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||04/02/2019|
What happened to Jared Leto's Joker?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||04/02/2019|
R4 I thought DL is interested in Joker and Phoenix?
|by Anonymous||reply 8||04/02/2019|
r8 Wrong and wrong.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||04/02/2019|
How many fucking Batman movies does the world need?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||04/02/2019|
R10 Right? Give us something different.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||04/02/2019|
R9 OK sorry
|by Anonymous||reply 12||04/02/2019|
I do not like Joaquin Phoenix in his role as "Joker."

Joaquin Phoenix playing a mentally damaged man going insane?
Cue M's groundbreaking gif.

It was shown first to exhibitors at Cinemacon, the teaser trailer will be released tomorrow.

|by Anonymous||reply 19||04/02/2019|
R15 Joey, save it for Funny Or Die.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||04/02/2019|
I'm excited to see the footage. I've always loved Joaquin Phoenix. Don't really care for the director though.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||04/02/2019|
Is Faye Dunaway in the first trailer that stuns CinemaCon? I only watch first trailers that stun if Faye Dunaway is in them.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||04/02/2019|
Loved him (alongside Sarah Goldfarb) in Requiem for a Dream.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||04/02/2019|
I warned him.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||04/02/2019|
R22 she didn't stun in Supergirl.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||04/02/2019|
It's going to be an interesting take.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||04/03/2019|
Is he going to make a cameo in Birds Of Prey??
|by Anonymous||reply 27||04/03/2019|
While Reqiuem is a good film, I had no desire to see it again. If they’re comparing The Joker to that, it doesn’t bode well.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||04/03/2019|
Weird reaction here. I was kind of hating it at first, but by the end, it left me really scared and anxious.
Who knows what the movie will be like, but it’s a well-built trailer, I guess.

Joaquin Phoenix can suck a dick.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||04/03/2019|
This is DL, so I have absolutely no idea if R33 is saying he'd happily let Phoenix suck his dick, or if it's one of our alt-right interlopers using an old homophobic slur.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||04/03/2019|
Will Phoenix kill himself too? He seems totally the type
|by Anonymous||reply 35||04/03/2019|
Joaquin Phoenix can suck a dick.
Of course he can. Anyone can. The question is, does he WANT to suck a dick? If you don't have the answer to that, please refrain from posting any more mundane nonsense.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||04/03/2019|
|by Anonymous||reply 37||04/03/2019|
I think it looks great. Hope the final product is as well.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||04/03/2019|
Joaquin looks different. Older, I guess. Odd that they would choose him for an origin story. I like him and have always liked him, since ELECTION.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||04/03/2019|
Do you mean To Die For? I don't think he was in Election.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||04/03/2019|
Of course. Two of my favorites from that era and I got them mixed up.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||04/03/2019|
This does seem oddly reminiscent of Taxi Driver, but frankly I don't need to see another depressing film right now, especially one more comic book movie starring the creepy Joaquin Phoenix. Pass.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||04/03/2019|
Whoa..he is gaunt . Definitely creepy.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||04/03/2019|
Looks great, but then again there’s no such thing as a bad trailer.

Watch the trailer for Men in Black International and tell me if you still hold that sentiment.

|by Anonymous||reply 46||04/04/2019|
No way this movie will flop.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||04/04/2019|
Taxi Driver? Requiem for a Dream? This trailer SCREAMS King of Comedy, but apparently contemporary "movie critics" know shit about cinema.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||04/04/2019|
It even looks like DeNiro is playing the Jerry Lewis role.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||04/04/2019|
ANOTHER joker movie?
|by Anonymous||reply 50||04/04/2019|
Not a Joaquin fan but I’ll give it a shot. No doubt Heath Ledger would’ve been mesmerizing to see in this.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||04/04/2019|
bona fide dud. . betcha $10000000.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||04/04/2019|
I'm with you, R50, so done with the Joker. As if there aren't any other interesting villains in the Batman universe. This just highlights again the difference between Marvel and DC. Marvel has a coherent vision of what it wants to do with its characters in the movies, and DC is a mess.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||04/04/2019|
Marvel has a coherent vision of what it wants to do with its characters in the movies, and DC is a mess.
The question is, will DC ever get it's shit together?
|by Anonymous||reply 54||04/04/2019|
I think the current plan is to just do standalone movies. Batman's gone, Superman's probably not coming back, Flash will never happen. So there's no chance of a Justice League crossover for years. So for now they'll just try and push a bunch of separate movies and see if they're a success.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||04/04/2019|
I have to say that, based on the trailer, I'm not even remotely interested in seeing this movie. I actually did think it was a pretty bad trailer. Or maybe it's a good trailer of a pretty bad film.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||04/04/2019|
Flash will never happen.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||04/04/2019|
Batman's not gone. Matt Reeves is directing the next one, though Affleck's out and they'll be focusing on a younger Bruce.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||04/04/2019|
Not a Joaquin fan but I’ll give it a shot. No doubt Heath Ledger would’ve been mesmerizing to see in this.
This movie would make a billion dollars in the first weekend if Heath were alive to star in it. It would be pandemonium as people climbed over each other to get in the theater. They wouldn’t have enough screens to meet demand.
But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Joaquin is probably the next best thing.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||04/04/2019|
Actually Daniel Day Lewis is the next best thing, but Joaquin is right behind him.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||04/04/2019|
Maybe these critics should be reminded that they're watching a trailer for a superhero movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||04/04/2019|
Technically, a supervillain movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||04/04/2019|
I don't remember The Joker having a harelip. 🐇👄
|by Anonymous||reply 63||04/04/2019|
Joaphin Phoenix is so overrated and his fantards are the worst after Tammy Hardy fantards.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||04/04/2019|
I think Phoenix’s harelip in real life is not as bad as it was in the trailer. I think they darkened it up quite a bit to make it seem like it was part of Joker’s character.
I know a lot of purists hated Jared Leto as the Joker but I thought he brought something new and interesting and he also made a good pairing with Margot Robbie. He made a more modern and sexy Joker.
I know a lot of people think it’s really important to have the Joker played by a stodgy-looking, stocky middle aged man, like in the Batman TV show days. But why? It’s supposed to be light entertainment, not a biography. This isn’t the 1960s any more, people like to look at pretty people. Adam West would have a six pack if they were filming the old Batman series today.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||04/04/2019|
Is he going to make a cameo in Birds Of Prey??
He can’t. That movie has Margot Kidder as Harley Quinn and she’s with Jared Leto’s Joker.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||04/04/2019|
Batman's not gone. Matt Reeves is directing the next one, though Affleck's out and they'll be focusing on a younger Bruce.

Marvel: Light DC: Dark
|by Anonymous||reply 69||04/05/2019|
r66, I think Margot Kidder is a little too old and, well, dead to play Jared Leto's Joker.
|by Anonymous||reply 70||04/06/2019|
Even in her present state, she would be a better Joker.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||04/06/2019|
>Batman would have had a sixpack<<
Adam West had too many sixpacks, that's why his gut was hanging over his belt in Season Two. He was back in shape for Season 3. He was even shirtless in one episode.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||04/08/2019|
I did not like Heath Ledger in his role as “Joker”.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||04/08/2019|
All this from a trailer. Okaaay.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||04/08/2019|
I smell Oscar and the awkward speech by Wakeem at the podium
This movie will make a gazillion dollars and will spawn multiple sequelzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
|by Anonymous||reply 75||04/08/2019|
Wow, I’m shocked that THE BUZZ about a movie trailer at a cinema con is like, positive and bombastic. Because that never happens. You never see filmmakers and studios paying for positive buzz at a cinema con and spreading word of its fabulousness online.
It reminds me of the time my mother earnestly told me, “Stephen King is writing a new book that he says is so scary it’s actually scaring him as he writes It!”
“Holy shit, mom, really?” I asked. “I can’t believe a guy who writes horror novels is telling his audience that his next book is really scary.”
|by Anonymous||reply 76||04/08/2019|
Heath Ledger's "performance" as the Joker consisted of an Al Franken impression.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||04/08/2019|
Requiem "drugs are bad mkay?" massively overrated
|by Anonymous||reply 78||04/08/2019|
Footage like "Taxi Driver" and "Requiem for a Dream?" Sounds like so much bullshit to me. And if the clown makeup is any indication then this will probably be a piece of crap.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||04/08/2019|
I love JP! I really hope this year will be his.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||04/08/2019|
Enough of these superhero or super villain movies.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||04/08/2019|
This strikes me as more of a “How John Wayne Gacy got started,” kind of movie than a superhero movie. Too much realism isn’t good for this genre.
|by Anonymous||reply 82||04/08/2019|
It's not a super hero movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||04/08/2019|
He's still Leaf from "Russkies", "SpaceCamp" and "Parenthood" to me.
|by Anonymous||reply 84||04/08/2019|
So I guess we arent going to hear the end of the latest method actor who will live the joker’s inner torment and eventually ruin them
|by Anonymous||reply 85||04/08/2019|
I don't do comic book movies, but this looks really interesting. I do like JP; he's a good actor and makes decent film choices
|by Anonymous||reply 86||04/08/2019|
R83, I meant to express that most “superhero movies” are cartoonish movies about larger than life characters. This seems more like a true crime novel or something, smaller in a way. I think that might be okay for the Joker if eventually it ended up that he was a hysterical, larger than life character.
Phoenix is a really introverted, inside the character’s tormented head type of guy. Not, “Ha ha! I’m crazy and I don’t care because this is so fun for me!”
|by Anonymous||reply 87||04/08/2019|
Not, “Ha ha! I’m crazy and I don’t care because this is so fun for me!”
|by Anonymous||reply 88||04/08/2019|
That’s pretty much what I meant. The character’s name is Joker, not Jean Valjean.
|by Anonymous||reply 89||04/08/2019|
There have been many interpretations of the Joker. To assume he must be depicted in one particular way is myopic.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||04/08/2019|
Every actor has brought something different to the role. But they all have a common theme. The guy’s name is Joker. Some angst is okay, but tormented, not-having-any-fun guy isn’t true to the role.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||04/08/2019|
There have been many interpretations of the Joker. To assume he must be depicted in one particular way is myopic.
Um.......Its a fucking comic book character. Real world-ness and actor-y reinventions are egotistical, unnecessary and unwelcome.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||04/08/2019|
The guy’s name is Joker. Some angst is okay, but tormented, not-having-any-fun guy isn’t true to the role.
This film is depicting the development of the Joker. I'm sure by the end of the film we'll see exactly what you're expecting. Also, if you bother to watch the trailer you'll see glimpses of that manic side in a few scenes. You can see Robert De Niro hosts a late night talk show of sorts as well as Joaquin's Joker preparing to go on stage. One of the final scenes of the trailer is him dancing.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||04/08/2019|
Um.......Its a fucking comic book character. Real world-ness and actor-y reinventions are egotistical, unnecessary and unwelcome.
The fuck? Did you sleep through Christopher Nolan and Heath Ledger's take on the character? Additionally, the comics have already depicted way more fucked up and grounded versions of the Joker than any of the films have.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||04/08/2019|
how did loser phoenix get this role? director a good friend? bought it? is fuking the producer?
mystery of mysterys...
|by Anonymous||reply 95||04/09/2019|
I loved it. The movie is more of a character study than superhero movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 96||04/14/2019|
Where did you see it? Is it out now?
|by Anonymous||reply 97||04/14/2019|
I just re-read the article OP posted. It comes out in October and during the article, the director says he’s not finished “shaping it.” So I’m guessing it’s still in editing.
Here’s a quote from the director:
Appearing at CinemaCon, director Todd Phillips described the film as an “origin story about a beloved character with no definitive origin” and said the genre of the film is “tragedy.”
That doesn’t sound like the story of a happy camper to me.
As far as the video goes, it looks like Phoenix is a deeply depressed, mentally disturbed man, fake laughing. As to whether that’s because Phoenix is deeply depressed, or the Joker is, is open to interpretation.
|by Anonymous||reply 98||04/14/2019|
R22, You only watch them? You don't do anything else to the trailers?
|by Anonymous||reply 99||04/14/2019|
His version flows better and as such is more pleasing to the ear. Don't be [italic]that[/italic] cunt.
|by Anonymous||reply 100||04/14/2019|
I finally got around to watching the Joker Trailer. It looked like a surrealist ad for Cymbalta. But I'm still very much looking forward to the film! It seems they are portraying Joker as a damaged , lonely man who eventually became evil.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||04/14/2019|

Has the Joker always been portrayed as an agonized, angsty guy that becomes evil? Sounds like Norman Bates, or arguably, Charles Manson. Not a Joker.
The word “Joker” sort of implies that there’s some joking going on.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||04/14/2019|
Heath Ledger is the one who led us to humanizing The Joker.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||04/14/2019|
Most superhero movies are based on comic books. There are several iterations of the Joker. Each one a bit different. I loved Heath's portrayal in 08 but the dude is dead, time to move on. Now I think Joaquin's version is the best. Leto's version sucks a million tiny dicks.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||04/14/2019|
If they want to have a super villain called “Angst-Man,” fine. Don’t completely destroy an existing character because directors want to make Shakespeare out of comic books.
|by Anonymous||reply 108||04/14/2019|
Critics sure are easily impressed.
|by Anonymous||reply 109||04/14/2019|
R109, they are paid to be “impressed.” Probably by the studio.
|by Anonymous||reply 110||04/14/2019|
I loved Heath's portrayal in 08 but the dude is dead, time to move on. Now I think Joaquin's version is the best.

R107 how can you say Joaquin's is the best when the movie hasn't even come out yet?
|by Anonymous||reply 112||04/14/2019|
Has the Joker always been portrayed as an agonized, angsty guy that becomes evil? Sounds like Norman Bates, or arguably, Charles Manson. Not a Joker.
He has many origins stories. But the angsty take was from The Killing Joke which portrayed Joker as a failed comedian whose pregnant wife dies, and he goes crazy after that loss and after being disfigured by falling into a vat of chemicals.
The Joker is almost always just an anarchist and ruthless killer when it comes to Batman's sidekicks (blowing up Jason Todd, shooting Barbara Gordon).
|by Anonymous||reply 113||04/14/2019|
Heath Ledger is the one who led us to humanizing The Joker.

|by Anonymous||reply 115||04/14/2019|
R111 who is that? I can't place him and it's driving me nuts
|by Anonymous||reply 116||04/14/2019|
Ryan Stiles, who would make an entertaining comic supervillain.
I know, I know, "comic" is the last thing people want from their comic book characters.
|by Anonymous||reply 117||04/14/2019|

|by Anonymous||reply 118||04/14/2019|
R117 R118 I'm embarrassed to admit I know him as "Herb" from Two and a Half Men...
|by Anonymous||reply 119||04/14/2019|
Joaquin's version is already a million times better than the execrable The Dark Knight movie. That movie was shit. The Joker was only about 15% of the movie. Every other character sucked in comparison. If that movie was 100% about Heath's Joker then he would have been unbeatable.
|by Anonymous||reply 120||04/14/2019|
