People can slag DL all they want, but when you skim over the trolls, there really isn't more intelligent discussion anywhere online, on a wider range of subject, with as large a number of people who know what they're talking about.

Yes, the DL format SUCKS ass. The people posting are it's redeeming quality.

Meanwhile, I really like the Whisper format, but it's full of idiots.

Bar none, there is no other website that caused me so much mirth and gut-busting laughter as DataLounge.

Yeah. I copy a post that I read on DL a couple of years ago “sometimes a gay guy’s mouth can be a straight guy’s best friend”, and add a photo of a gorgeous twink actor, who is clearly not me, typically Froy lol. The phrase is generic enough to not get caught in the adult filters and guys interested in head will know what’s up. I’ve hooked up with some nice guys that way. Some “straight” guys with gfs, some wanting head, some wanting dick. All thankfully masculine.

When I post offering to “help” (i.e. cash), the hit rate is much lower. And the guys who immediately respond are typically old. Grindr is much better for hunting down both professional and organic escorts.

R15, I’m sorry you haven’t had a positive experience. I would not expect there to be a lot of overlap between people looking for sex and people looking for conversations about other stuff.

Whisper is a cesspool of desperation. It's seems to be where all the guys too fug for Grindr and Tinder wind up, annoying everyone else who's just trying to have conversations.

The picture with text overlay (or “meme” in today’s bastardized internet language) is the “opener” for your anon chat. People can post their own memes as replies, or just DM the poster (you) to get down to business. People sell lots of substances and I’ve gotten a couple of hot encounters out of it.

I agree the Whisper format is fun and promising for wit and wisdom, and it was designed for anonymous chatting with people in your vicinity. But in practice, it's where men too ugly for dating apps harrass everyone for blind hookups. Pity.

I've tried various boards over the years, and honestly? DL is just much more entertaining and amusing (and I even learn things). So this is my favorite place to visit when I need to tune out (believe it or not), but I wish there was more gossip, and less political posts which is exactly what I want to get away from.

But other anonymous chat apps? Like reddit, Quora, etc? Nah. Not the same.

If there was a user-friendly app for DL, though, it would be SO GREAT. Just saying.
