Should she be upset? Why does Hollywood hate her? Any insiders who can comment who have worked with her, please divulge!
Glenn Close

She's lovely and not hated, sensible and down to earth. She made her first attempt ever to play the game this Oscar season and probably came very close to winning. If Sunset finally gets made and they do a good job she'll complete her deserved triple crown.

So why hasn't she won? As the most nominated ever?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 14, 2019 4:19 AM |
And she has never won beloved by the her community because.........
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 17, 2019 11:09 PM |
Because she’s a third-rate M.

She never won but always got close.

There's no award for Best Wheelchaired Performance.

Nobody has it in for Glenn Close. This season Glenn and Lady Gaga split their vote which gave Ms. Colman an opening to win. Just bad circumstances, nothing personal against Ms. Close

No one is going to buy a ticket to the movie version of Sunset Blvd

She had a lovely time and thanks everyone for the love. Her time will come.

the snub has actually brought her more attention than a win would have.
I think she'll probably get more offers nowadays especially for supporting roles.

Well, how much time does she realistically have LEFT?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 18, 2019 4:18 AM |
She seems in pretty good shape r11. She did Sunset Blvd just two years ago climbing up and down those stairs. Betty Buckley has said she doesn't think she could do that nowadays (the climbing) and Glenn just did an off-Broadway play for months this year. So she could be working into her eighties like Jessica Tandy or people like that.

I agree that Glenn is generally well-liked. The industry respects her as a trooper who made some very profitable films back in the day (FATAL ATTRACTION) and still shows up in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the like. She was ahead of her time in moving to series TV (DAMAGES) when other film people still avoided it like poison. Still returns to theatre periodically. She's a smart hard-worker who rarely makes off-screen drama. If anything, it's a testament to her standing in the biz that she keeps getting praise and nominations for well-meant but second-rate projects like ALBERT NOBBS and yes, THE WIFE. (These really are not great films.)
Let's compare and contrast Glenn with, say Susan Sarandon. Rightly or wrongly, Sarandon is not especially loved or highly regarded by her peers. She's usually passed over for scripts in favor of others her age. She HAS her Oscar (for DEAD MEN WALKING, which seems to have disappeared from collective memory). Putting aside her behavior during the last election, I really enjoyed her work in FEUD. A better liked actor would have gotten a much bigger bump out of all that acclaim and attention. (Lange has a new series in production.) Sarandon wound up with... a recurring role on RAY DONOVAN. And some other work that no one on the planet ever saw.
My point? Glenn doesn't have, say Meryl's career, but who does, besides Meryl? (BTW, no, they're not friends, not close, but have nothing but the highest praise for one another.)
Glenn has had a pretty fucking amazing career, and she's earned it. The lady turns 72 in a couple of days.

She is fantastic, but she isn't a glamorous public paparazzi pleasing star. She is a real actress. A craftswoman.

Glenn has and continues to have a great career. Memorable roles in Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, 101 Dalamations, Damages, the voice of Homer Simpson's mother. Who needs an Oscar?

I do think her talent, at least, is very well regarded by her peers. She's been acting longer than either Streep or Close ... and aside from THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT, she's never done trash..

PS:
Considering what a nasty page-turner the book is, that film really should have been better. But it has boring direction, and a boring leading man.
Sarandon is by far the best thing in it.

When it is said Glen and Meryl aren’t friends I think of one Emmy night. Meryl had just won She most of the nominees would not care but Glen would be bitter. I think only a good friend would joke about that.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 18, 2019 6:38 AM |
Actually r18 she M joked that Emma Thompson would be the bitter one.

I had to read R18 to figure out what it meant.

r20 good idea. Reading posts is usually key to figuring what they mean.
