Does it seem like advertising uses more scantily clad men?

Shirtless men and ripped, hot men with muscled bodies. All over in magazines, advertisements, billboards, etc.

I feel like this was less common even 15 years ago and it was all about women half-nude women before.

This is an observation and not a complaint, right?

by Anonymousreply 1March 13, 2019 10:36 PM

I notice it too and I see no problem with this.

by Anonymousreply 2March 13, 2019 10:36 PM

To answer more seriously, it's a combination of things. Part of it is that advertisers have noticed the purchasing power of gay men and are pandering more to the community. Another part is that Instagram and social media is fueling the whole muscle/sixpack body image to teens and young men. Also, women are more encouraged and probably feel more open to ogling men in more gratuitous ways than before.

by Anonymousreply 3March 13, 2019 10:40 PM

men are ogleworthy, after all

by Anonymousreply 4March 13, 2019 10:42 PM

The Calvin Klein men's underwear ads of the 1990's revolutionized the portrayal of male sexuality in North America.

by Anonymousreply 5March 13, 2019 10:42 PM

I'm sure it has nothing to with Madison Avenue realizing that women are the purchasers in the economy.

by Anonymousreply 6March 13, 2019 10:45 PM

Hot dudes are in and it's not gay for guys to check out other half naked bros.

by Anonymousreply 7March 13, 2019 10:49 PM

whats wrong with that?

by Anonymousreply 8March 13, 2019 10:50 PM

Usually it's a gay creative director selling it in to a female marketing director, when they're not having cosmos and shopping for shoes. Gay marketing directors prefer wholesome gay families acting normally. I know first hand in a few of the cases in the link.

by Anonymousreply 9March 13, 2019 10:51 PM

This is a good thing for once.

by Anonymousreply 10March 13, 2019 10:54 PM

There's a strong, latent homoerotic streak amongst even straight men. That's why Big Dicks are the #1 search porn item for straight men. Everybody subconsciously enjoys a good looking, shirtless man.

by Anonymousreply 11March 13, 2019 10:56 PM

Just don’t call it “gay.” Straight dudes are admiring peak male physiques too.

by Anonymousreply 12March 13, 2019 10:58 PM

Women have been objectified like this for decades. It's only fair to return the favor.

by Anonymousreply 13March 13, 2019 11:06 PM

What r5 said

by Anonymousreply 14March 13, 2019 11:19 PM

You mean gratuitous male nudity like this, OP?

Nudity and sexuality sells.

by Anonymousreply 17March 13, 2019 11:42 PM

[quote]Hot dudes are in and it's not gay for guys to check out other half naked bros.

Yes, it is. It is very, very gay, "bro."

by Anonymousreply 18March 13, 2019 11:43 PM

I've noticed more advertising like this.

'Get shredded in 6 weeks!'

by Anonymousreply 19March 13, 2019 11:51 PM

Objectivify them.

by Anonymousreply 20March 13, 2019 11:53 PM

Though kind of tame now, this Calvin Klein underwear ad from 1982 was pretty revolutionary.

In 10 years, full frontal erect cocks will be used to advertise everything from ovens to pumpkin spice.

by Anonymousreply 22March 14, 2019 12:03 AM

In our dreams, R22.

by Anonymousreply 23March 14, 2019 12:05 AM

I would buy Big Dick pumpkin spice, R22.

by Anonymousreply 24March 14, 2019 12:07 AM

Finally.

by Anonymousreply 25March 14, 2019 12:13 AM

OPs ads look like male perfume ads which have always featured hot nude men.

I remember jerking off to the David Gandy in some perfume ad (D&G?) when I was a teenager

My favorite of the 90s cologne ad male models.

by Anonymousreply 28March 14, 2019 12:46 AM

Good

by Anonymousreply 29March 14, 2019 3:19 AM

yay, more nekkid mins!

by Anonymousreply 30March 14, 2019 10:55 AM

Should women ogle men? I thought they were above that. Don't they hate being wolf whistled etc? Or are they just hypocrites?

by Anonymousreply 31March 14, 2019 11:32 AM

R31, don’t be ridiculous dude

by Anonymousreply 32March 14, 2019 11:47 AM

R32 no dude it's true many women moan about being ogled and whistled at but somehow they find it ok to do it themselves. Are you going to tell me I'm wrong?

by Anonymousreply 33March 14, 2019 11:50 AM

Funny how the more skinnier/ripped (and hairless?) a model is, the more likely he is to be near nude. Imagine a fitfat or chubbier guy in the same poses? Yeah, it wouldn't happen.

by Anonymousreply 34March 14, 2019 12:23 PM

Nobody wants to see a chubby nude guy R34

by Anonymousreply 35March 14, 2019 9:11 PM

R33: You are wrong. Most women won't act that way, only a minority do. It's the inverse for men. And to enjoy a pic of a nude male is different from catcalling and being an obnoxious ass.

by Anonymousreply 36March 14, 2019 9:19 PM

Precisely dude

by Anonymousreply 37March 14, 2019 9:20 PM

Good.

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2019 4:29 PM

It's an outrage! Whatever happened to the feminist movement?

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2019 4:33 PM

I've noticed not only more scantily clad men in advertising lately (which I appreciate), but more same-sex couples subtly placed in commercials among other couples/families as well. Our cable company - Comcast - does target advertising, so I'm sure it knows a gay couple lives here. The same commercials probably aren't being shown to everyone in Redneck, Kentucky.

by Anonymousreply 40March 19, 2019 4:40 PM

I’d need to see some more examples before I decide if it’s happening more.

by Anonymousreply 41March 19, 2019 4:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 43March 19, 2019 5:00 PM

I work in the ad biz and, basically, men don't make any purchasing decisions on their own any more. Maybe what beer to buy or whatnot but most of the purchases a family makes are done solely by the woman or, at most, in concert with the man. They will agree on big purchases (house, car, vacation, etc) but literally everything else, from clothes to food to toiletries, the purchasing decision is made by the woman. Even single men don't make a ton of purchasing decisions on their own. They usually find a woman to help them buy clothes (mom, sister, girlfriend) or if they are outfitting their apartment, they rely on delivery services (Amazon, etc) and will just get whatever is there. They are picky about TV shows to watch/streaming subscriptions, sports teams and video games and that's about it. Also, men don't watch TV much, except sports.

by Anonymousreply 44March 19, 2019 5:34 PM

I've noticed it a bit moreso lately.

by Anonymousreply 45March 19, 2019 8:00 PM

(R3) women care more about a man's $$$ value first than his social standing and lastly his looks.
