Thanks a lot, asshole. Voters already decided this issue and now we have more fodder for the GOP.
Gavin Newsom suspends Death Penalty in Calfornia
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 14, 2019 3:46 AM |
Yea, how dare he not engage in state sanctioned murder himself.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 13, 2019 4:08 AM |
"now we have more fodder for the GOP."
Yeah. As if the GOP needs an excuse to be assholes.
This whole "Oh noes! What will the Republicans think" bullshit is bullshit.
They're going to think whatever the Orange Turd tells them to think.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 13, 2019 4:09 AM |
If it was applied fairly but it's not. Cops can't even get the right address half the time, let alone solve a crime. And then when the states block DNA tests and people from the Innocence project, it makes you wonder wtf we're thinking.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 13, 2019 4:13 AM |
California has voted on this numerous times but Newsom has gone against the popular vote and this in liberal California.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 13, 2019 4:14 AM |
Kill, [italic]kill, KILL!!![/italic]
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 13, 2019 4:14 AM |
Good for him!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 13, 2019 4:15 AM |
The last time California did this, the Manson Family (and Sirhan Sirhan, for that matter) all got off the hook.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 13, 2019 4:17 AM |
Another "progressive" fascist who believes he's been elected to save the masses from themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 13, 2019 4:19 AM |
R7 They died in jail, or are still serving their sentence, having been repeatedly denied parole. This is "off the hook"?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 13, 2019 4:20 AM |
Gang leaders rejoice.
If anything we don’t execute people fast enough.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 13, 2019 4:22 AM |
"California has voted on this numerous times but Newsom has gone against the popular vote and this in liberal California."
Californians also voted against gay marriage, remember? We lost the "popular vote" because most people are stupid
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 13, 2019 4:22 AM |
"If anything we don’t execute people fast enough."
You should move to Saudi Arabia, you would love it there.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 13, 2019 4:23 AM |
I think he'll let Leslie Van Houten go.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 13, 2019 4:24 AM |
The Einsteins in the G.O.P haven't figured out that it's not a deterrent, and has no effect on the crime rate.
Sad to see so many right-wingers here.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 13, 2019 4:27 AM |
R13 God I hope so.
And fuck the death penalty. It doesn't work, and it's completely unfair. Good for Gavin.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 13, 2019 4:44 AM |
Good for him.
The death penalty is barbaric and it doesn't belong in the modern world.
OP = psycho, get your head checked.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 13, 2019 5:00 AM |
Umm... There'll be another proposition to vote it back in.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 13, 2019 5:02 AM |
The death penalty is barbaric and it doesn't belong in the modern world.
Until it's one of R16's loved ones who are brutally and viciously murdered. Then it's fry the fucker!!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 13, 2019 5:03 AM |
It doesn't matter because even when California convicts got the death penalty, California almost never carried it out. California hasn't put anyone to death in ages, not even scumbags like Richard Ramirez who murdered a bunch of people and was able to die a natural death.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 13, 2019 5:26 AM |
and was able to die a natural death.
Behind bars.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 13, 2019 5:28 AM |
R17 He's only suspending it while he's in office. Only California voters can repeal the death penalty and every measure to do it has failed.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 13, 2019 5:29 AM |
R20 Never having to work a job, never having to pay rent, never having to put food on his table, etc....living off taxpayers and able to live out his life to its natural end unlike his many victims.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 13, 2019 5:31 AM |
Is he giving up hope of being president or does he think this will be like his marriage license decision as SF mayor and popular opinion will catch up to him? If he's doing this because he believes it to be the right thing, he's risen in my estimation, and not because I necessarily care about repealing the death penalty. I've long thought he's a cynical opportunist, and it would be nice to be proven wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 13, 2019 5:34 AM |
Aside from the fact that it’s morally wrong for the State to execute someone, it also costs more to execute a person than it does to keep them in prison for life, so there is a practical benefit to the general public in suspending executions, as well.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 13, 2019 6:35 AM |
This is huge. I don't know what his motivation was, but it doesn't matter.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 13, 2019 6:54 AM |
I think the world leaders in capital punishment are the US, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China. Most of our European allies have outlawed execution, and some will not extradite people to the US if they face the death penalty here.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 13, 2019 6:56 AM |
Mexico will also not extradite to countries seeking the death penalty.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 13, 2019 7:04 AM |
California's current death spiral has fuck-all to do with the GOP.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 13, 2019 7:18 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 13, 2019 7:20 AM |

Oh no! The GOP would never have said ANYTHING bad about Democrats anywhere until Gavin did this! Now we're doooomed!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 13, 2019 9:09 AM |
The trolls in this thread seem to be unaware that a lot of states never reinstated or quit using the death penalty--including some really red ones like North Dakota. Gavin's just following the lead of Oregon and Washington.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 13, 2019 9:39 AM |
Gavin's looking better now without the guido slicked back hair.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 13, 2019 2:27 PM |
This is why Trump will win California in 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 13, 2019 2:40 PM |
Lol r35.
Anyway, fuck off OP. He is doing the right thing. There is no reason for the death penalty, life in prison is a suitably harsh penalty for the worst offenders. The state does not need to kill people, many innocent people have ended up on death row. You can't reverse it once you kill them.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 13, 2019 2:45 PM |
Please, Trump isn't winning CA and hopefully will have resigned by 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 13, 2019 3:35 PM |
I’m so sick of worrying about what the republicans think.Do they spend half a second worrying about us? Let democrats act like democrats.Good for him!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 13, 2019 4:06 PM |
R38, it could mean a lot at the next election, especially since so many voters, including Democrats voted in favor of the Death Penalty.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 13, 2019 4:38 PM |
America isn't the EU. It's ancient Rome. The death penalty is still popular among our violent and vengeful populace.
Christianity isn't really New Testament in America.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 13, 2019 4:40 PM |
I wonder if the OP is the same person who posted about Joe Biden/Bernie Sanders. It’s funny that when it comes to politics, you have some people who ignore or know nothing about the past and then you have others who know the history but are just stuck in the past. Middle America has taken in about 75 seasons (literally) of law and order and CSI since the 1990s. The numbers are moving on the death penalty quickly. It’s not an issue the people vote on it anymore
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 13, 2019 4:52 PM |
This is why Trump will win California in 2020.
Wow, are you delusional.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 13, 2019 5:03 PM |
Even the GOP is over the death penalty debate. We all know it doesn't deter crimes, is really expensive for states, and is racist in the way it's used.
Much of the GOP doesn't support it actively any more. The big conservative think tank that used to support the death penalty closed up shop a few years ago
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 13, 2019 5:06 PM |
Pushed ignore on OP and half the thread disappeared. What a weirdo.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 13, 2019 5:11 PM |
This is really driving the good peace-loving Christians of America crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 13, 2019 6:07 PM |
R38, it could mean a lot at the next election, especially since so many voters, including Democrats voted in favor of the Death Penalty
Oh, garbage. That's just nonsensical. Gavin Newsom isn't on the ballot in 2020 and this isn't an issue that drives national elections.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 13, 2019 6:30 PM |
Lethal injection has a high botch rate. Also, the necessary drugs are difficult for Departments of Correction to obtain since the manufacturers have put in place end user agreements forbidding the use of their drugs in executions.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 13, 2019 9:51 PM |
Good for him.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 13, 2019 9:56 PM |
The death penalty does not deter crime and it costs a lot more than just imprisoning people for life. There's no upside.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 13, 2019 9:59 PM |
"The death penalty is barbaric and it doesn't belong in the modern world."
Shut up, asshole. You want to talk "barbaric?" What those murderers did to their victims is the very definition of barbaric. You murderer-loving cunts are the scum of the earth.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 13, 2019 10:15 PM |
And fuck the death penalty. It doesn't work
It doesn’t work because these motherfuckers get convicted and sit on death row for 20 years. And there’s too many states who don’t even practice it anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 13, 2019 10:18 PM |
R47, I’m not in favor of the death penalty, but why don’t they use Fentanyl? Or just opium? It’s working so well on the outside.
