(Openly gay) 2020 candidate Buttigieg calls Pence 'cheerleader of the porn star presidency'

He's one of us for sure.

Beto/Buttigieg 2020

by Anonymousreply 68March 16, 2019 7:56 PM

With talk like that, he has my vote.

by Anonymousreply 1March 11, 2019 6:44 PM

On several levels, he is the most interesting candidate of the bunch.

by Anonymousreply 2March 11, 2019 6:47 PM

Is he really doing that quote thing with his hands? I can't in good conscience vote for someone that still does that.

by Anonymousreply 3March 11, 2019 6:48 PM
"Is it that he stopped believing in scripture when he started believing in Donald Trump?" Buttigieg wondered.

[italic]Shiiiiit.[/italic] He's good.

by Anonymousreply 4March 11, 2019 6:49 PM

Buttigieg needs 65k unique donors to be able to appear in the televised debates. Consider making a $3 donation.

by Anonymousreply 5March 11, 2019 6:50 PM

r3 Oh, yeah, let's have a fully conservative Supreme Court and the federal circuits for the next thirty years then because you can't in good conscience vote for someone who uses air quotes. Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 6March 11, 2019 6:52 PM

R1 here, where can I make that donation, R5?

by Anonymousreply 7March 11, 2019 7:09 PM

R7 Pete for America

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2019 7:23 PM

just donated (not R7 )

by Anonymousreply 9March 11, 2019 7:30 PM

I just donated $25, it is easy, I don't think he will win but I think it is important that Pete remains part of the conversation. Unfortunately a lot of straight people still think all gays act like they are normally portrayed on television, they need to see that gay people are just as varied as straight people. That gay people can be leaders, they can marry and raise families that we aren't that different from them.

by Anonymousreply 10March 11, 2019 7:34 PM

Love him. He seems like a good person and the fact that he's an out gay man makes it even better.

by Anonymousreply 11March 11, 2019 7:39 PM

A list of possible candidates in the first debate his been published. Top were Biden and Sanders. Half way down, Warren. Booker and Kamala were at #3 and Bill deBlasio at 0

by Anonymousreply 12March 11, 2019 7:47 PM

I'd donate to his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 13March 11, 2019 7:51 PM

I live near South Bend. He is very likable and locals think highly of him. He has done a lot of good things as mayor.

by Anonymousreply 14March 11, 2019 7:56 PM

The requirements to be invited to the televised Democratic Party debate are:
A candidate must meet at least one of these two qualifications in order to secure a spot in the first two Democratic primary debates, come June: reaching at least 1 percent support in three or more national or early primary state polls, or collecting campaign donations from at least 65,000 individuals, with over 200 donors in over 20 states.

Since Pete is unlikely to achieve a 1% rating in three national polls before the first debate the only way he will make it in is to get 65,000 individuals to donate with at least 200 of them coming from over 20 states. We can help him do that and be part of the conversation.

Hey R14, me too, Granger here.

by Anonymousreply 15March 11, 2019 7:57 PM

he is a cutie

by Anonymousreply 16March 11, 2019 7:58 PM

he actually is the only one so far that doesn't sound crazy and shrill.

by Anonymousreply 17March 11, 2019 8:00 PM

He comes across as sensible and principled. Like others, I don't think he can win, but I will donate just to keep him in the mix.

And it would be fun to have a gay president and a "First Man" ( or First Husband? First Sister? First Girlfirend?)

by Anonymousreply 18March 11, 2019 8:10 PM

Pete's Twitter has a lot of tweets of interest from some very influential people. Dan Balz, Yashar Ali, Robert Costa, Mimi Rocah, Bradley Whitford, David Axelrod, Laurence Tribe.

Laurence Tribe ‏ @PeteButtigieg is so worth watching. Glad America’s most distinguished contemporary poet, @jorie_graham, finds him impressive too.

Bradley Whitford ‏ Every time out,@PeteButtigieg crushes it. Every. Time.

David Axelrod ‏ I have rarely seen a candidate make better use of televised Town Hall than @PeteButtigieg is on @CNN tonight. Crisp, thoughtful and relatable. He’ll be a little less of a long shot tomorrow.

Mimi Rocah ‏ Just learning about @PeteButtigieg. On a really basic level, there’s something unique about the way he speaks - knowledgeable & smart without sounding pompous, serious but not stiff, smooth but not rehearsed. Really impressed & want to learn more.

Robert Costa ‏

This Buttigieg town hall is worth watching. Polished and thoughtful presentation with clear answers. Underscores military exp. Of course, it’s a big field and he’s a young Midwestern mayor. But he’s using his time on stage effectively here. This is a focused candidate.

Dan Balz ‏ In his CNN town hall, @PeteButtigieg highlights the value of listening to questioners and responding with clarity and depth. Q and A on a high plain. Refreshing.

Stephanie Cutter ‏

@petebuttigieg just makes sense. That’s all.

Norman Ornstein ‏ Everyone should start paying attention to @PeteButtigieg

Yashar Ali

This moment during the @PeteButtigieg town hall with @jaketapper made me emotional. A discussion of something silly like the spousal bickering of a same-sex couple treated normally is something I wish I had as a kid. We don't want special rights. We want what everyone else has

by Anonymousreply 19March 11, 2019 8:22 PM

when did yashar ali become so influential? his bg is kinda shady

by Anonymousreply 20March 11, 2019 8:26 PM

Hearing him speak sold me. His voice is quite butch, although he looks like a grown-up twink. Plus, his hubby's cute,. too.

by Anonymousreply 21March 11, 2019 8:26 PM

R21 here, not sure why my link isn't working on R21 but this one works.

by Anonymousreply 22March 11, 2019 8:31 PM

Link at R19 not R21, sorry about that.

by Anonymousreply 23March 11, 2019 8:32 PM

If you feel you can't afford to donate, Pete is just asking for donations of $3 so he can reach the 65,000 donations level so he can get on the debate stage. Of course he would appreciate more, but all he is asking is for $3.

R24

TAKE ALL MY MONEY YOU LITTLE MUFFIN

by Anonymousreply 25March 11, 2019 8:35 PM

So he needs only 1% in three polls? If keeps talking like this, it's manageable.

by Anonymousreply 26March 11, 2019 8:36 PM

Right now on the Real Clear Politics average of polls Castro, Gabbard, Gillibrand, Delaney, and Buttigieg are not getting even 1%

by Anonymousreply 27March 11, 2019 8:46 PM

I'm impressed.

by Anonymousreply 28March 11, 2019 8:50 PM

I'm wary of people without an upper lip, but I really like that he's openly gay so I will donate. But if he ever calls himself or others "queer" then I'm gone.

by Anonymousreply 29March 11, 2019 9:01 PM

I'll vote for him if he's still around for the Texas primary but it's going to be so hard with all the big names running

by Anonymousreply 30March 11, 2019 9:04 PM

I donated $25.

Corporate media is already favoring Kamala and Biden, both opportunists and "problematic," but already in cahoots with the fifth column.

by Anonymousreply 33March 11, 2019 9:46 PM

..Media is going sideways over the "porn star' gieg! This will elevate quickly!

by Anonymousreply 34March 11, 2019 9:58 PM

I agree wholeheartedly R10 -- Modern Family alone has set us back decades with the uber-swishy couple.

Any why the fuck are they holding debates in June???

The first primary (Iowa) isn't until February 2020

People are going to be sick and tired of all of them, even the ones they like.

by Anonymousreply 35March 11, 2019 10:02 PM

I can see this guy winning.

by Anonymousreply 36March 11, 2019 10:12 PM

Just for coming up with the incredibly effective slogan, he wins. Shows he can use Trumps tactics to fight back - unlike the pussy footing other Dems. No other candidate has it. This is going to be a dirty, slimy, innuendo filled campaign that will make 2016 look like Disneyland. We need a tough, shrewd, tough son of a Bitch to win.

by Anonymousreply 37March 11, 2019 10:14 PM

He should have changed his name as a teenager. Butt Gig? No one will ever pronounce it properly.

by Anonymousreply 38March 11, 2019 10:19 PM

I think he should change the pronunciation guide of his name from BOOT-edge-edge to BOOT-ej-ej. For some reason the latter seems so much less cumbersome and sounds pretty much the same.

by Anonymousreply 39March 11, 2019 10:26 PM

r38, fuck the haters. It's a good German name.

by Anonymousreply 40March 11, 2019 10:28 PM

I'm from South Bend, born and raised.......I didn't know he had that much chutzpah! I always thought of him as a submissive, but he's a prison wolf! Go Petey! Pence is hated here, considered dangerous to the human race. His hatred of homosexuals is nazi in philosophy. Castration and imprisonment in mental hospitals not only for the openly gay, but even for those who admit privately to their physicians that they have same sex attraction! Even those who oppose the gay agenda know that he is a monster and probably closeted himself.

by Anonymousreply 41March 11, 2019 10:30 PM

First politician I’ve ever had a crush on. Totally adorkable

by Anonymousreply 42March 11, 2019 11:04 PM

Mayor Pete had a good essay in the local paper on why coming out matters a few years ago when he made an announcement that he was gay. Public response was generally positive. Almost all of the negative comments were from a couple of religious right folks. Also, the TV reporters always pronounce his name BOOT-a-judge.
It's a good German name.

Actually, Maltese.

by Anonymousreply 44March 11, 2019 11:08 PM

which way will this make Judge Judy budge?

by Anonymousreply 45March 11, 2019 11:18 PM

He got very high marks from Joe and Mika this morning.

by Anonymousreply 46March 11, 2019 11:58 PM

Well I have to admit - first time in my life I've given to a political candidate (I'm just cheap) but here we are ...

Like others, I don't actually expect him to be the nominee, but he should be on that stage. His answers were calm, articulate, and well reasoned.

by Anonymousreply 47March 11, 2019 11:59 PM

His voice is so manly.

by Anonymousreply 48March 13, 2019 10:19 PM

It's not remotely a German name. I read somewhere that Maltese is actually derived from Arabic.

BOOT-a-judge is a much better way of rendering it than BOOT-edge-edge.

by Anonymousreply 49March 13, 2019 10:30 PM

Pete has raised $600,000. That's 85% of the goal required to be invited to the DNC debate.

by Anonymousreply 50March 13, 2019 10:32 PM

r50 Thanks for the update!

by Anonymousreply 51March 13, 2019 10:35 PM

Donate! $5 or 10 bucks, anything you can spare!

by Anonymousreply 52March 13, 2019 10:37 PM

r49 His husband has "Buddha-judge" in his Twitter bio so I think that's actually the correct pronunciation.

by Anonymousreply 53March 13, 2019 10:37 PM

I donated $25 but I did not leave "a tip".

by Anonymousreply 54March 13, 2019 10:38 PM

Why do the 4channers want Buttigieg and the ching chong Yang guy?

by Anonymousreply 55March 13, 2019 10:40 PM

That was an odd request wasn't it R54? I didn't look too hard, but I couldn't find where this "tip" went. I didn't leave one either. I don't think it is Buttigieg, but the platform itself.

by Anonymousreply 56March 13, 2019 10:44 PM

r55 Probably because they think their Donnie can easily beat him.

by Anonymousreply 57March 13, 2019 10:47 PM

He looks clean and articulate....

by Anonymousreply 58March 13, 2019 10:49 PM

Email I received:
The national exposure generated by the CNN Town Hall certainly helped boost our numbers over the last 72 hours, but most of our donors actually invested before that. Through your support, the work of our Grassroots Fundraising Team, and small-dollar donors in every state across the country (and PR and DC, too), we're on a solid path to being invited to the debate stage.

Thank you for being one of our 55,359 donors. Can you share our progress with your network by forwarding this email or sharing on Twitter, and recruiting a friend to be investor number 55,360?

If you did quick math above, you calculated that our average donation in that 24-hour period was $27.03. Campaigns always talk a lot about that metric -- the "average dollar donation," because it is supposed to prove grassroots support.

We're committed to being honest and transparent with our data -- especially with you, our earliest supporters. We look at other metrics, like the percentage of our total amount raised brought in through donations under $200. (Right now, that number is 65%.)

We'll continue to crunch the numbers on our end, particularly as we approach the end of the month and close the books on this fiscal quarter. We can't wait to share the full story of the data with you.

Please share our progress with your network, and ask them to be a part of this story.

Thanks again,

Pete for America

by Anonymousreply 59March 13, 2019 11:47 PM

He appears to be a good politician. He seems to speak well extemporaneously. He could impress...

by Anonymousreply 60March 14, 2019 2:18 AM

Guys, all you have to donate is $3 (and tell your friends to do so) so he can get on the debate stage!

by Anonymousreply 61March 14, 2019 7:36 PM

Pence only got the VP position because they couldn't get anyone else willing to do it. Pence's political career was over, he was considered a far-right freak and never would've been reelected. He had no choice, it was Trump's VP on political retirement.

by Anonymousreply 62March 14, 2019 7:58 PM

Will we be referring to him as Buttplug?

by Anonymousreply 63March 14, 2019 8:06 PM

Creepy loser Republicans will be calling him that. We will not be.

by Anonymousreply 64March 14, 2019 8:27 PM

Update

Hi XXXXXXX,

We did it: We hit the 65,000 donor goal. Thank you. I'm so grateful for your support.

When we first learned about the DNC’s requirement of 65,000 individual donors in order to be invited to the debate stage in June, we weren’t even close.

The size of our email list was about a third of that, and our social audiences (combined) were about half. I didn’t have the network of a millionaire, nor was I well known.

But we are building a community that believes in this bold vision for the future, and there are tens of thousands of people (76,025 to be exact) around the country who invested because they believe a midwestern, millennial, war veteran, mayoral voice should be a part of the conversation.

You helped us get to the 65,000 donor requirement, and I promise to do my part on that stage. I will prepare. I will speak with conviction. I will answer questions fully and honestly. I won’t be petty or disingenuous. We saw what a national audience from the CNN Town Hall can do for awareness and fundraising -- the debates will help, too.

But we are going to need to raise (a lot) more money in order to actually be able to compete. I know I can hold my own on the debate stage and represent your values with honor and integrity, but I need to know we can build a strong organization, too.

Will you commit to be a part of our fundraising efforts? We don’t just want you to “double down,” or “chip in.” We want to know how you can help make a difference to our efforts -- not just right now, but also next month, next quarter, and next year.

by Anonymousreply 65March 16, 2019 3:05 PM

Anyone here who is serious about simply wanting him to have a voice — it’s time you step up by promoting him on your SM. All you have to say is that you just want his voice included in the elections, the rest will happen organically.

by Anonymousreply 66March 16, 2019 3:33 PM

He's smart and sane, if only those qualities were still important in politics...

by Anonymousreply 67March 16, 2019 3:35 PM

Quoted at R65 Pete state that people "invested because they believe [in] a midwestern, millennial, war veteran" etc.. I don't believe in any of those things! I like that he called Pence a Cheerleader for the Porn Presidency! I admire that caustic soundbite.

As a member of the Vietnam Generation I don't especially admire people who fought in that war and wars since, nor do I admire millennials as a unified action group, and heaven forbid a midwesterner!

I donated but Kamala is ahead in my race.
