UK's Porn Block, Starts April 1st

As early as next month, porn sites will be required to get proof of ID from UK residents before showing any X-rated clips.

That includes free porn sites like PornHub and YouPorn – which attract nearly 2billion visits a month between them worldwide.

They'll join a number of other sites in using the AgeID system, which requires users to verify their age via an official form of ID such as a driver's license or passport.

Whooooooooooooooaaaaa!!!! I’ll never move there or even visit now.

by Anonymousreply 1March 9, 2019 3:28 PM

This will end in tears.

by Anonymousreply 2March 9, 2019 3:33 PM

Wow. Stupidity.

I wonder how much ad revenue the sites will be forced to pay to AgeID or how many ads the AgeID "company" will be forcing down everyone's throats ruining any experience.

People who have problems with porn: conservative homophobes or jealous... "partners" (girlfriends of men)

by Anonymousreply 3March 9, 2019 3:37 PM

Fuck censorship in any shape or form. Who is behind this? Stinkfish, that’s who!!!

by Anonymousreply 4March 9, 2019 3:40 PM

[quote]Who is behind this?

Conservatives, who else. They started with the opt-in scheme and now this. They won't stop until they ban porn completely.

by Anonymousreply 5March 9, 2019 4:09 PM

So Xtube, tumblr, and Pornhub will no longer be available to Brits unless they pay?

Mary !

by Anonymousreply 6March 9, 2019 4:57 PM

More important than Brexit.

by Anonymousreply 7March 22, 2019 3:15 PM

Clearly, this law is intended to "protect" children.

Perhaps, these children could be better protected if their irresponsible parents were required to be more accountable for their obviously poor parenting in allowing their children access to website and devices without sufficient supervision that the children view material that these same irresponsible parents deem objectionable.

It's not like this pron is playing on billboards on the street (to which I would object). Of course, there should be laws about pron pop-up ads and other material to which someone can unwillingly be exposed.

However, these sites require an affirmative act on the part of the children to view the material - an act they KNOW is against mommy's and daddy's rules. It requires negligent parents who hand their children devices without appropriate guidance, instruction, or supervision.

I am so tired of narcissistic parents DEMANDING the rest of us bear the burden of their inability to use birth control. I am happy to pay taxes for public education for the common good. But, I never signed up to babysit your brats, so you can go to yoga, take a nap, or any other activity.

Mind your own kids. The rest of us are not here to do it for you - and neither is the internet.

by Anonymousreply 8March 22, 2019 3:26 PM

Gay (male) kids will be hurt the hardest.

by Anonymousreply 9March 22, 2019 3:28 PM

Yeah, this will work like they do in Muslin countries and China.......

by Anonymousreply 10March 22, 2019 3:34 PM

It's been dumped, they had no idea how to implement it. I wonder how much all of the messing around cost

The UK doesn't even have ID cards.

Huh? It's not about giving money Rose, it's about proving you're an adult. They want your license, not your credit card.

by Anonymousreply 12October 16, 2019 5:34 PM

Around 12 million UK adults do not hold a drivers licence, so it couldn't be done that way either.

by Anonymousreply 13October 16, 2019 5:50 PM

[quote] The UK doesn't even have ID cards.

The UK has been trying, and failing, for over 100 years to introduce ID cards in peacetime. The latest attempt ended in failure in 2010.

What the hell did you guys do before fast internet? Did you all forget human beings functioned just fine without instant access to unlimited freebie porn?

It is because of the kids, but I don't blame the parents at all. As if your parents knew everything you did, and could prevent you from doing everything. It's the studies coming out that are showing it's been heading down a bad path for awhile. Of those watching porn, under the age of 18, unfortunately 20% are 10 yrs old or less. Child on child sexual assaults are rapidly increasing.

I'd expect adults to know why parents are having trouble managing this. It has gone way beyond being manageable.

I guess I lived enough before internet porn to know its not that big of a deal, and it's still available, so I don't see the panic. For those concerned about privacy, you gave away all your rights to your information years ago, otherwise data mining and selling wouldn't be as lucrative.

by Anonymousreply 15October 16, 2019 6:10 PM

They were supposed to make alternative site addresses, other than org and com. I always thought that was a much better way to organize content, especially with porn. If it was restricted to dot porn, or whatever, it would be easier to block or request access. I haven't heard anything about that idea in awhile though.

(I'm already prepared for the anger headed my way for not holding the popular stance here.)

by Anonymousreply 16October 16, 2019 6:13 PM

It's just more Nanny State b/s, thrown out at last after £m have been wasted to Protect the Children. The parents should be protecting their crotch droppings and the state should rarely get involved.

R16 The pornography industry and the Bible thumpers joined together to destroy the proposal of a .xxx domain dedicated to porn.

by Anonymousreply 18October 16, 2019 6:58 PM

What was the reasoning, R16?

by Anonymousreply 19October 16, 2019 8:24 PM

Sorry, R18?

by Anonymousreply 20October 16, 2019 8:24 PM

You know this will be introduced in the US and the largest consumers of porn ( Republican politicians and evangelicals) will be the first to endorse.

by Anonymousreply 21October 16, 2019 8:38 PM

r21 Naw, repugs can't get elected without men

by Anonymousreply 22October 16, 2019 8:43 PM

The Bible thumpers opposed the establishment of a .xxx domain because they felt like that legitimized pornography and they didn't want it legitimated. The pornographers opposed the .xxx domain because it would be easy for internet providers to block it entirely, so they wanted porn to stay in the general .com domain.
