Samantha Morton’s bringing it
Samantha Morton clearly means business. Signing up to a series in its ninth season could have seen the actor phone it in, but quite the opposite is happening – she’s fully embracing her role as the primary villain on one of television’s most-watched shows (those declining ratings mean nothing) and her back-and-forth with Daryl outside Hilltop brings chills to the bone. Morton’s delivery and intonation of certain words will rattle around your mind long after the episode ends and may even prompt you to rewatch for the first time in years. This could be her best work yet.

Question.
Why is Tom Payne still listed in the opening credits of Walking Dead?
Every other character who has been killed off, was immediately removed from the opening credits.
However, even though his character was killed by a Whisperer, Tom Payne is still listed in the credits.
Anyone know what's going on with that?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 26, 2019 9:41 AM |
I actually like the Henry character.
As much as I like Chandler Riggs the person, the guy couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.
However, Matt Lintz is really good as Henry. Maybe it's because he's had a lot of acting experience before appearing on WD, but he's just better than Chandler.
Funny thing is, his character has been in nearly every episode so far, but he is listed far down in the credits.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 26, 2019 9:43 AM |
Tom Payne’s name was in the credits this week because he appeared in the episode. There was a time jump where his character was still living so he appeared.

It’s much better now, but has exhausted the goodwill of most of its viewers. Even though the storytelling is quite good, the absence of the original stars has killed its energy and momentum. Ratings are terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 26, 2019 10:39 AM |
Yeah, R7.
Someone posted ratings for the most recent episode on the old thread, and it was the lowest rated episode since 2010.
I actually think that the writing and stories have gotten much better, but at this point, the show is sinking like the Titanic.

I will never understand how this show, 9 seasons in, managed to get Samantha Morton. She’s a legit talent & the show better not waste her.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 26, 2019 11:51 AM |
Alpha scares the hell out of me.
She is serial killer creepy looking, especially with the shaved head.
So far, she doesn't seem like the prototypical "bad guy." She seemed quite reasonable when bargaining with Daryl. However, I think that there's something much more sinister about her intentions. Now that she has her daughter back, I think that she's going to strike.
I don't even know what the hell is going on with Alexandria. Does it even exist anymore? And is Negan really going back to jail with Judith as an escort, now that the Saviors compound is finished? I'm actually interested in finding out where that story goes.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 28, 2019 10:43 PM |
The problem is there is too much filler garbage thrown in so the story doesn’t pass the comic. On last Sunday’s episode when they started the montage I knew it was over for me. Each episode is predictable. Have one group encounter zombies they have to kill as a group then have some semblance of story for the other 20 minutes of airtime. Even the comic of TWD should end. It’s tired. The whisperers was one of the best storylines in the comic I was looking forward to watching it but they’ve slaughtered this too with all the filler they put in.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 28, 2019 11:47 PM |
Ugh, Morton is a dud on TWD and fat to boot, stop with the horrid “big bads”, what the fuck, that plan destroyed True Blood, same here. Shit show.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 28, 2019 11:52 PM |
Others see her playing Alpha.
All I see is a Charlie Brown wannabe trying to act tough.
Good grief! What were they thinking?
She needs to keep the mask with the blond hair on.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 1, 2019 12:00 AM |
I'm really starting to hate Michonne. Danai Gurira can't act her way out of a paper bag. Everything has to be so SERIOUS and DRAMATIC with her. It's fucking annoying.
Oh, and it's clear that Daryl's character can't carry this show. Norman Reedus just doesn't have "it."
I do find it amusing, however, that Rosita is the town slut, shacking up with two guys. Still, Christian Serratos is lucky to have this job.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 4, 2019 6:36 PM |
They need to whittle down the cast by about 50 people.
The show seems so unfocused.
In the beginning, there were only about 10 main cast members, and that was perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 4, 2019 6:47 PM |
The problem I have with this and FTWD is once you’ve gone through getting to know characters only to watch them be killed off one-by-one, why sign on to do it again?

I think you’re right, BUT the dialogue is so trite, so amateurish, that it doesn’t give you a lot to work with. I mean...beofre the Negan shit, the story development was awesome but the actual lines the actors are given have always been shit.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 5, 2019 1:17 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 5, 2019 1:33 PM |
The show itself feels like a spin-off now. However, I find the whisperer's genuinely creepy and scary. I don't think that's happened for years on this show. Negan and even the governor weren't necessarily scary and this show needs horror (obviously). I'm nowhere near as invested as I used to be because we lost most of the main characters but it has gotten better. I remember on Fear like 2 seasons ago when the 'bad guy' was that creepy guy who was also on Sons of Anarchy and thinking THIS is someone who creeps me out. This is what The Walking Dead needs. Not these charismatic, two sided "villains". Now we have it and I hope it lasts more than this season.

Samantha's daughter has a show! Is she talented like her mother? The series is based on 2011 movie Hannah and it also stars Mirelle Enos and Joel Kinnaman both from The Killing.

I did enjoy the last episode the most in this back half of Season 9.
I wish the four upcoming pikes had Negan & his wives all on them.
I can't stand him & AMC lets the guy who cut the ratings in half remain?
Millions of viewers around the world tuned out because of this bat wielding loser.
Has Rosita ever said what she wants to do to Negan for killing Abe & Glen? I can't recall.

Hard to take the Rosita love quadrangle (and the many other pairings) while they've made Aaron completely asexual and not needing companionship other than his little girl.

The priest character has always been useless and should have been killed off many seasons ago. His only memorable moment was getting blown by the garbage lady.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 7, 2019 9:07 PM |
Samantha Morton should have dropped weight for this. It doesn't make sense for her character to be borderline obese when we know the Whisperers are forced to forage for bugs and worms to eat.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 7, 2019 10:45 PM |
I have a question about the Whisperers.
So they only wear masks? How does that keep the walkers from attacking them?
The Walking Dead rules are that they have to wear the blood and guts of the dead, to keep them from attacking live people. So how does just wearing a mask, protect them from Walkers?
Such bull.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 8, 2019 3:57 PM |
R40 I remember in the first years, Rick & Glen(?) got caught in the rain during their blood & guts trick & it blew up their game so I wonder what the Whisperers do when they get caught in the rain?
They could have only 1 or 2 members directing a whole herd so they would end up having to fight off the entire group or maybe they just off themselves for a quick death?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 8, 2019 5:32 PM |
Exactly, R41.
The Whisperers disguise doesn't make sense.
The masks would only fool living people because they can't tell the difference, but it wouldn't fool the Walkers, because they go by smell, and not sight.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 8, 2019 7:26 PM |
Morton’s performance is understated so of course some of you won’t get her choices for the character. Alpha is one part Norman Bates, the sick smile when the mother puts her baby on the ground to be walker chow!, and two parts Hannibal Lecter. A still and quiet menace. Her cruelty is calculated but she is capable of savage brutality. A true sociopath. And so refreshing after Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s cartoonish Negan. In next week’s preview Michonne does something really fucked up. Trying to manipulate and guilt trip Lydia into leaving. Michonne is becoming a very unlikable character. I think she’s a goner this season. One of the “shocking” deaths this season. Make us hate her so we won’t miss her. Maybe I need to pay closer attention but I thought the young black actor who is part of the new group was a GUY. Surprise!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 11, 2019 4:54 AM |
The whisperers are continuing proof that TWD is straying further and further from what initially made it so good.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 11, 2019 5:37 AM |
Really good episode this week. The whisperers are so creepy and it adds such a great element to a group of walkers. Like the where's walk of the walking dead.
...and I'm hoping Aaron finds love.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 11, 2019 6:11 AM |
They need to kill the “Rosita and her dilemma” storyline ASAP. The producers know that many of the fans find her boring and useless and would cheer if she was gone but they still keep her character alive and taking valuable screen time from a more interesting character. I can deal with the Negan redemption arc and him being a source of conflict between Judith and Michonne and ultimately becoming a father figure to Judith. That was foretold in Rick’s dream about the future of Alexandria. What I find hard to believe is that Michonne is going to become just like him. That is not who she is and it seems like a set up for Danai’s impending departure from the show. Also, Cohen will be back. That shit show she’s currently on won’t last another month. People, the stupid ones, are already shipping Darryl and Connie but I think she’s meant to take Carol’s place as someone he can trust and love. NOT as a love interest. Darryl, Dog, and Connie do make a cute little family unit though. This season seems to be something of an hommage to George Romero. The very creepy and atmospheric scenes in the graveyard where Jesus is killed and we are introduced to the Whisperers. The sheer weirdness of the Whisperers and how they are so comfortable walking and living among the dead. And Beta. A real nightmare in the daytime. At least they didn’t fuck casting this beast. I like Alpha. I look forward to seeing just how formidable and terrifying she can be.

She doesn’t like the idea of Corrine with Darryl. Darryl is going to stay a loner and alone because no one buys into the idea that any person with even minimal hygiene habits would hit that messy thing.

Really. Keep Dog and get rid of Rosita. At the very least she should throw Eugene a pity fuck. It’s not like the character has standards. Hard to believe but based on her appearances on TD she is even more boring in real life than she is as an actor. And that is pretty fucking boring. I like Gerry but the writers don’t seem to based on the dialog they write for him. For realz. So the Whisperers decapitate their foes and then skin the faces for masks? Thanks for the spoiler asshole. Guess I’ll start making my wish list right now.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 19, 2019 8:20 AM |
R57 I didn’t say they skinned their faces you big dummy. I just said they put their heads on a pikes in the comic book. It was during the fair that is upcoming. So why don’t you just shut up!
Maybe you just spoiled it because the whisperers will skin them. In the comic book they couldn’t find a bunch of people while the fair was going on then found their heads on pikes outside the hilltop. I hope you get AIDS.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 19, 2019 11:06 PM |
You posted a spoiler from the comic book without flagging it as a spoiler. You are an asshole. I’m just guessing that they get their masks from fresh kills. While the flesh is still pliable and intact. Not rotting corpses. I’m also guessing that the heads on pikes are meant to be a warning to give up Lydia or they will never be safe on runs or going from one community to another. They will pick them off one by one until there is only one little indian left. The AIDS comment is beyond immature. Grow up.

I'm one of those who called for the show to end before the 2nd part of this season aired. Angela kang has really done a lot to make this watchable again. I guess I'm intrigued by Samantha Morton and the Whisper's storyline. I couldn't care less about the various settlements and their woes to be honest. All I really care about is the dynamic between Daryl, Alpha/Beta, Lydia.
I constantly compare the poor writing on this show with the writing on Game of Thrones and noted that GoT has the guts to be totally unpredictable. WD killed off characters in a very safe way. Well, I guess the writers took note.

Haha, that's the first thing I thought of. They killed off a main character (Tara) to probably pay for Daryl's and Carol's significant pay increases.
They killed off Enid and Henry because they probably just turned 18 and would have to be paid more, as adults.
AMC is so fucking cheap!
[quote] Oh no! I'm watching talking dead and found out DJ one of the heads on the sticks. Damnit, he was hot

by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 25, 2019 4:00 PM |
Alpha wasn’t alone in The Kingdom. She would signal who she wanted taken. The Whisperers had the wagon belonging to the blonde woman and her husband to transport them. In Henry’s case they lured him away with the sound of the pipe going blooey. Don’t forget, they have been surveilling them for a long time. I think Alpha picked the people who looked the happiest and had someone who they loved, and who loved them, so that they would feel her pain at the “loss” of her daughter. The two friends of Henry were chosen because they were plotting against Lydia. Alpha is a malignant narcissist as well as a psychopath. She was wandering around listening to conversations to know how to fit in which is why she mentioned Michonne to Ezekiel. She’s much smarter than Negan.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 25, 2019 4:17 PM |
Another thing. It was highlighted that some of these people hadn’t seen each other in YEARS. So it was easy for her to wander around without being challenged. Although, you would think some of the people from Hightop would recognize the dress and straw hat she was wearing. Not many of them dress like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.

Even a couple of the episode recaps I've read on other sites have said there were huge plot chunks missing in this episode.
It's a sad state of affairs when all we can find to get excited about this show is that it's going to snow next week.

The Highwaymen were patrolling the grounds around The Kingdom and came upon the captives in the barn and were untying them when the Whisperers attacked. That is why some of them were still bound with rope. They fought like hell but were overpowered. And they didn’t even get to watch the movie. Damn, that’s sad.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | March 25, 2019 4:29 PM |

Did anyone else catch Beta’s reaction when Alpha said that her daughter was no longer a concern? It was subtle but with a slight cock of his head he managed to play surprise and disdain. Love this character. He’s noble. And thus far a loyal right hand man. Yet, I foresee Beta challenging Alpha for leader of the Whisperers down the road. THAT will be the real bloodbath. Whisperer against Whisperer. All speculation on my part. Don’t read the comics and don’t truck in spoilers.

The actors who played Tara and Enid got features about their time on the show and interviews about their leaving. Matt got an offhand remark from Hardwick (“oh, yes and farewell to Matt Linz who played Henry”) even though Henry had a bigger role this season than Tara or Enid ever had.

Angela and Nicotero have breathed new life into this show. It IS creepy and scary again. An lovely homage to the master of the genre, George Romero. I completely forgot about Scott Pimple. What a ridiculous looking man. I find I don’t miss Rick at all. I missed Shane for the longest. Funny, but I think I will actually miss Tara. Why must they torture us by keeping Rosita alive? She’s such a cocktease. She knows how Eugene feels about her yet continues to give him hope. Die already!
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 25, 2019 5:46 PM |
If I remember right from the comic book, Beta ended up being a character from the past who had joined up with the Whiskerers. That should not be taken as a spoiler because I don’t remember who the person was or if that’s what happened. Have they shown Beta’s face yet?
This season was much better than the prior 5 seasons have been but I’m done after this year. When they killed all the nobodies it just seemed like such a cowardice way out. The next storyline that came up in the comic was such a retread of the same old shit that I’m pretty much done with it too.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 25, 2019 6:11 PM |
R103 I think the issue with killing all these nobodies is that they weren't supposed to be nobodies - they've invested time this series trying to make us care about them but failed completely. Even Tara being one of the characters who's been around the longest didn't matter much. It was supposed to be some shocking event and fell flat completely.
I don't think anyone really cares about this show anymore. Honestly, loads of people we're supposed to like just had their heads impaled on spikes and all we're excited about is some weather.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | March 25, 2019 6:18 PM |
Tara was long overdue to die. I'm not upset. Even Enid I don't really care about. And I didn't dislike her, really.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | March 25, 2019 7:06 PM |
From the preview the Kingdom is done, so are the people going to Hilltop? Alexandria?
How much time has passed from the fair? It looked warm then, but was flurrying by the end of the episode (I think), so do we pick up a few months later?
I did notice the look Beta gave to Alpha after she said to leave her daughter. Wouldn't surprise me if he challenges her for leadership at some point.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | March 25, 2019 7:09 PM |
R104 I completely agree. I couldn't even recognize half the heads on the spikes and I certainly didn't know their names. Oh well. Knowing where the comic is going I'm going to stop after next week's show.
I really think TWD will wrap up soon, if not next season, and return as specials or feature movies, which is why Rick isn't dead technically.
Dana Guari is supposed to appear less after this season so she can do more film. Maybe Maggie will come back when her horrible show gets canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | March 25, 2019 7:17 PM |
R107 I thought it was already a given that Maggie would be returning for season 10.
With Michonne on her way out in season 10, they can probably find the extra cash Mags was looking for.
Enid was probably killed off to make room for Lydia in the opening credits.
Also with her gone, it means we will be seeing more of dumbass Siddiq "taking care" of the injured/dying.
With Tara dead, will anyone be happy to see Heath if he indeed does return someday?
Tara will never know that he was still alive or what happened to her friend.
It's sad when you think about it.
Did anyone see Aaron or Gracie in last night's show?
I think they were the only two characters that weren't shown.
Gracie should've been playing with Annoying Asskicker instead of Gigantor Jerry.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | March 25, 2019 7:33 PM |
I think I'm more interested in Alpha than any of the "good guys".
I couldn't care less if the Hilltop, Alexandria or any of them burned to the ground about now.

I think that Judith is kind of cute.
The lines that they give her are way too unrealistic for a child, but I must say that the little girl is a good actress.
Also, why does Chris Hardwick hate Matt Lintz?

Tara said on Talking Dead she was only supposed to be on 3 episodes. Obviously she wasn't ever a main character but she was a different personality and often comic relief. It isn't a big blow to see her go but I felt a little sad. The actress was always fun on Talking Dead. I think the suits at AMC have this theory that if they keep going through characters it keeps people interested...which I don't think necessarily works. It also seems they are always thinking long term and assume the audience will not be invested in most of them for long. Either way, the past few years were definitely a decline in quality and I was close to jumping ship. Every episode would just be me complaining to my boyfriend about the writing. This season made me invested again. I don't know if it will last long lol but I'm glad it isn't just dying a slow death.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 25, 2019 8:26 PM |
Aaron and Gracie weren't in the episode. Must've been back at Alexandria babysitting RJ and holding things down.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | March 25, 2019 11:32 PM |
I doubt Chris Hardwick hates Matt Lintz. Forgetting to mention him was just an oversight.
I was a little surprised they didn't have Melissa McBride do a little 'I'm going to miss him' segment, but I guess 3 would've been too many for a single episode. And Tara and Enid had been there longer.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | March 25, 2019 11:36 PM |
Glad Henry ended up on the pikes. Matt Lintz annoyed me as he did many of the fans. I do feel like Enid and Tara were not written well at all and they missed some golden opportunities to have some great arcs there. Enid watched her real parents get killed, then had to deal with her adopted parent Glen dying followed by her love interest. They could have developed a real come to Jesus moment for her but blew that. I guess they opted to fill the young girl quota with Lydia. Cassady McClincy seems like a slightly better actress than Katelyn Nacon who seems to only be capable of pouting. I do feel for her though.
I'm intrigued by Lydia and how her arc might progress. I know everyone is rooting for a Carol vs. Alpha showdown but I think it would be much better to develop Lydia a bit more and have her confront Alpha.

by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 26, 2019 12:52 AM |
Will this event see the return of Badass Carol? Because that would be really welcome.
For those who watch Talking Dead, was Samantha Morton on yet?

r114’s post is the best in this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | March 26, 2019 1:11 AM |
Morton strikes me as an actor who wants to keep Alpha an enigma and maintain suspension of disbelief and that wouldn’t be possible if she was yucking it up on the TD couch. I bet she stays away from the main cast at lunch. Doesn’t want to be anyone’s chum. Method, baby.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | March 26, 2019 1:21 AM |
BTW, the poster who asked if Alpha was still alive in the comic book is also the one who posted the comic book spoiler about Alpha and Negan. Guess what asshole? Most of us are smart enough to figure out that Michonne is going to unleash the Neg and Lucille is hangry.

R124 listen up butthole breath, the comic and the tv show do not end up the same so they aren’t spoilers stupid asshole. And if I remember right Michonne doesn’t “unleash” Negan and Lucille. In the comic book Beta is still alive and Alpha is dead. Who knows how they’ll do it on the show. Only Tammy was the same one who died in the comic and on the show. Carol has been dead in the comic for YEARS and was nothing like TV Carol. So blow it out your dirty ass r124.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 26, 2019 1:34 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 26, 2019 1:39 AM |
R126, you have at least one inaccuracy in your post. However, it is just as rude to post spoilers from the comic book. TV show viewers deserve to be surprised if they want to and can seek out the comic book if they want to.

I'm actually wondering how society develops at this point. The survivors have inherited a pristine earth and a boatload of trauma to work with. So the Fair, the ham radios and the Highwaymen actually got me interested again. They were good concepts that got blown through. I wish the writers could have found a better balance between hope and horror, because that's when The Walking Dead really sings for me.

R103, Beta’s face has not been shown on the show yet. Ryan Hurst has been Talking Dead (either last week or the week before). Samantha Morton has not been on Talking Dead yet.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 26, 2019 1:55 PM |
R132 do you remember if Beta was someone from the past in the comic book?
by Anonymous | reply 133 | March 26, 2019 5:59 PM |
I think it was a mistake for Ryan Hurst to go on TD so soon because seeing what the actor looks like in real life takes away from the mystique and air of menace around the character. I didn’t watch Sons of Anarchy so I wasn’t familiar with him before WD. He does such a great job of revealing who Beta is and what emotions he’s feeling without the benefit of seeing his face. He uses his voice, body language, his eyes, when we can see them, and the way he moves about to great effect. I wish the producers would realize that some characters, and the people who play them, need to remain a mystery. I think SM gets this in spades.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 26, 2019 6:50 PM |
In the comics Beta used to be a famous basketball player who acted in tv and films. I suspect he was based on Shaquille O'Neal.

R141 She's the only Hispanic in the cast credits ( I can't recall any others now on the show at all).
With about 17% of the US Hispanic & millions more in Central & South America, it was a safe bet she would last as long as she has. (Who else is Hispanic?)
The show has taken criticism for killing off minorities with out any replacements in the supporting cast. Think Glen & Denise (they also had "a black man gets it" trope for awhile there in the earlier seasons with T-Dog, etc.)
I knew when they introduced the new lesbian couple this season that it would signal Tara's death. I wish I had someone who watched the show to bet with :(
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 27, 2019 2:43 AM |
The comic is more of a political statement right now than anything. They make sure the characters are as “diverse” as possible and have them fighting a republican capitalist government. The zombies are hardly there. That’s where the show is going too. It’s more concerned with inclusion and diversity.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | March 27, 2019 2:50 AM |
Is rosita still around in the comics? How about Eugene?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 27, 2019 2:58 AM |
That’s an interesting theory about why Tara was killed off. They did go out of their way to let the audience that the two women were a couple. I guess I wasn’t paying attention because I didn’t put the two of them together as a couple. I figured Connie’s sister was the gay one. Honestly, I thought the character was a young black male. If they keep her because she is the only Hispanic then she could at least up her acting game. Take some lessons. Workshops. Hone her skills. Oh, wait. She doesn’t have any. I do remember the show getting criticized for killing off black characters with extreme prejudice. I still miss T-Dog. If it’s a matter of affirmative action then kill her off and replace her with a hot Papi. That would be nice;)
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 27, 2019 2:58 AM |
Straight characters on the show get love triangles (Rick/Shane/Lori & Rick/Blonde/Abusive husband = etc.).
Gay characters find each other from the start (Arron/Eric) & the new lesbian couple are the main examples of this trope.
No love triangles for us so that's how I really knew Tara was worm food.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 27, 2019 2:58 AM |
There's also a character now I've seen a few times who looks just like Glen. Like identical lol. I don't think he has had any words but he's been with the group a few times. They also have made sure to give Jerry's wife, the muslim, some screen time. Here's hoping Aaron finds a good man next season. Or if he dies we'll be sure to be introduced to a new gay man lol.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 27, 2019 3:05 AM |
R144 Rosita is dead in the comics. She had her head on a pike by the whisperers. Eugene is still alive.
Interestingly in the comic Jesus is gay and he is still alive.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 27, 2019 3:05 AM |
R147 I’ve noticed how they make sure to get the Muslim chick in as many scenes as possible. I don’t have a beef, it just doesn’t feel organic. It feels forced as it does in the comic now.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 27, 2019 3:07 AM |
I too noticed the Glenn lookalike. The first time I saw him it took me a second to see that it really wasn't Glenn.
Do we know his name on the show?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 27, 2019 3:12 AM |
R149 I agree with the Nabila thing. She always has to have her head wrap on. No human or walker will ever pull it off of her in any fight.
R147 The Asian guy who is a guard is named Kal. You see more of him since Glenn got the bat. I also knew that he wouldn't be on a pike since the other two Asians (Jerry & Siddiq) don't look like him at all. I think he will be safe for awhile. if he dies the audience might get "Glenn flashbacks".
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 27, 2019 3:13 AM |
I feel like I don’t know any of the characters anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 27, 2019 3:18 AM |
You got to give the TPTB credit when they saw the show become a worldwide hit in the first 2 seasons, they started adding in more people who reflected the planet in the cast. The Walking Dead only had Glenn, then they added T-Dog, Michonne, Tyrese & Sasha, etc. & now the cast does reflect the US demo (except for native Americans who are about one out of 66 people & the above mentioned Hispanic group).
Rosita might be the only reason millions of Hispanics around the world continue to watch as the show slips in writing & pacing decisions.
Her latest love triangle (R/Gabe/Siddiq) gave 3 minority characters something to do this season & she previously had an awkward R/Abe/Eugene triangle to deal with.
Rick is the King of TWD triangles & Rosita is the Queen of TWD triangles.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | March 27, 2019 3:19 AM |
Lol you're right r151 It's probably the most painfully obvious pandering of them all since it's constantly so visually in your face.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | March 27, 2019 3:28 AM |
If your name starts with the letter R on TWD than you are required to be in a love triangle.
I predict Rosita will be safe for awhile since they already got rid of three females in the cast this season (Maggie, Tara & Enid) & Michonne is soon to depart sometime in the next season. if things work out Maggie will make her grand return in season 10 (I'm hoping the writers will let her kill off Negan for Glenn & Abe).
It looks like Rick & Jesus are the two big male departures this season.

I wonder if Christian Serratos gets a lot of negative emails and comments on her social media, regarding her acting.
I think it's obvious to everyone that she can't act, but I wonder if she's aware of it? Are the producers?
It boggles my mind that she's still on the show, and they have fired much better actors than her.

I will definitely have to FF through any scenes that involve Rosita, the priest, Saddiq, and Eugene and their baby mama drama next season. They come back strong with the Whisperers storyline and then bore the shit out of us with the soap opera shit. I bet that’s Gimple’s idea. I can’t imagine Angela Kang thinks any of this is entertaining.

I'm surprised so many of you know the names if all the characters. I am so confused with all the new people and have trouble remembering their storylines and names from week to week. Alpha needs to tone down that ridiculous southern accent. I'm from the south and it is grating.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | March 27, 2019 2:56 PM |
Is the accent "authentic," R161? I was trying to figure that out.
Rick Grimes had the worst Southern accent, along with Shane and Daryl. I heard that their attempts at "Southern" was more Southwestern, like Texas.
I've been to Eastern Kentucky many times, and to me, that's a Southern accent. It also sounds nothing like the accents on the Walking Dead, but I have no idea about a Georgia accent, so I wouldn't know.
I'm imagining something like Molly from 90 day fiance.

by Anonymous | reply 163 | March 27, 2019 5:12 PM |
Sorry, I meant the authenticity of the accent R163.
I knew Samantha was British.
I'm just trying to compare who is getting the Southern accent right - Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, or Samantha Morton.
Actually, of all of them, it was the other British guy who played the Governor, whose accent (to me) sounded the best.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | March 27, 2019 5:16 PM |
R164 I don’t think any of them get it right to be honest. Lauren Cohan does better than rick and Lenny James is pretty good too but they all suck. Especially rick.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | March 27, 2019 5:23 PM |
I wonder if Alpha’s accent is phony. She speaks like a genteel southern lady but her daughter doesn’t have a southern accent. Perhaps speaking in the fake southern helps her keep her voice to a low pitch. She dispatched that unfortunate Whisperer for stepping on some dried leaves and twigs. Surely the way the walkers lumber around they make similar noises? Or is it because any sound makes them turn towards the source and would have brought them to the camp? I am thinking way too hard about this show.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | March 27, 2019 5:52 PM |
R166 To be fair, you seem to be thinking about it more than any of the writers.

Thanks, r167. I was thinking back to the scene with Alpha and Ezekiel and realized that the actor who plays Ezekiel read his lines like Sigourney Weaver in The Village. LOL. Plus, Ezekiel is something of a dolt. He invented the role of King and convinced a shitload of people to believe in him and yet he couldn’t see that Alpha was a tad “off”? The minute she opened her mouth my brain would have screamed Manson Girl! Manson Girl! And I would have run like hell.

r175, Yes, there seemed to be no point in the reveal that Jesus was gay except for the show to claim to be more gay inclusive. And I notice they are doing with the gay characters what they have done with the black characters, at least in the early years. They'd bring in a new black character, and then pretty soon kill off an established black character. It happened again and again. And that is what they have done this season. They brought on the lesbian couple, so they axed two established gay characters. They're pretty transparent.

I really liked the finale even though it was clear that Carol wasn’t going to kill Lydia. Although the third time she wandered off I was screaming for someone to kill the bitch already. Didn’t see the Carol and Ezekiel break-up coming. And I sure didn’t think he was jealous of Darryl. I loved the snow and white out conditions. Very realistic. Didn’t need to know how they made it happen. This show gives way too much information and it ruins the illusion. Have a fucking special and show people how creative you are and if we want to watch we will. Same with The Walking Dead official site. They give away more spoilers than any site other than this one;) Maggie must be coming back which is why they killed off Tara. What a fool to think she has a career apart from this show. I see problems with her and Ezekiel. Maggie is a hardcore realist and won’t be down for that clap happy bullshit. And will they please write Jerry some dialog that isn’t cringe worthy? The guy who was Enid’s boyfriend used to be hot. Now he’s not, so he can go. Lord, please let Father Gabriel and Rosita die next season. I can deal with Saddiq solo. It was clever of them to have Eugene hook up the ham radios so Hilltop and Alexandria can stay in touch. Over and out until October.

They left a safe shelter with heat to go out into a blizzard, left their magnificent, healthy horses and their wagons, braved going across frozen waters and enemy territory in white-out conditions because if they didn't "they might be snowed in for weeks", and when they got to their destination there was maybe three inches of snow on the ground? Enough for a snowball fight.

R191 I did not take it as Ezekiel was jealous of Darryl as well. More like he didn’t want to have Carol deal with Lydia on a day to day basis. Given how she was being treated by Enid’s boyfriend, I cannot imagine she has received warm welcome after the events at the fair.

Alpha freaks me out not b/c she's scary but b/c she looks like my mom after she got cancer, went through chemo, lost her hair, and got a fat, puffy face due to medications.
My mom didn't have all that black crap on her face, but when they showed Alpha at the end of the episode I said 'holy shit' b/c of the resemblance. Creepy.

The head in a pike episode would have been a better season finale.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | April 1, 2019 5:01 PM |
Yeah R196. This episode was a bit of a letdown.
Walkers hidden in the snow.
Who couldn't have seen that coming?
When Daryl knocked the head off of that "frozen" walker statue I had to LOL.
They have learned nothing from that CGI deer fiasco.
I though someone on the DL would've mentioned it right off.

Definitely convinced there is more to Siddiq's story now. I can't believe I'm back into this show again like the first 4 or so seasons. The past few were really just going through the motions. Love it.

On-line possible SPOILER ALERT********* someone posted a picture of Saddiq talking with Alpha in the camp and he wasn’t beat up or bloody. The poster offered it as proof that Saddiq was not telling the truth about why he was spared. The photo looked like it was taken with a telescopic lens. It could have been a photo of the set before any filming began for the day. Why do you think he isn’t telling the whole truth, r198? They left the horses and their wagon with their supplies because to do otherwise would indicate. that they crossed the border. The dead horse walker will looke like kthe others died by freezing to death and then turned and wandered away. Although, they didn’t realize that the walkers who were dispatched WILL be proof that someone got as far as the river. Alpha and Beta are no fools. Also, Bete beating Alpha with that switch was uber creepy. And I realized that she killed the whisperer who saw her cry because it was a sign of weakness. She’s a handful.

Yeah, I scrolled by those to post my comment about the finale thinking that I would come back to watch and completely forgot about them. I watched the Saddiq conspiracy video and there is a compelling reason to believe that it could be true. Alpha was signaling to someone in the crowd. It was subtle and quick. I thought she had other whisperers with her at the Kingdom but the Saddiq theory really makes sense. They wouldn’t question why he was asking them to go with him. There was never a hint of a struggle to alert anyone that something was wrong. He would know about the hinky pipe as a way to lure Henry away. Alpha wouldn’t have known that. But why tie him up in the barn if he was working with Alpha? As a cover in case anyone got away to warn the group? And how did he know that she was targeting Rosita in order to make that deal?
by Anonymous | reply 201 | April 1, 2019 9:03 PM |
I didn't watch most of this season so can someone tell me about the rosita baby drama? She was dating Gabriel but slept with siddiq and got pregnant. And everyone knows the baby is siddiq's, but Gabriel is going to raise it as his? Why did they tell gabe they slept together? The baby could probably pass as Gabe's skin tone wise.

R202 There was 2 time skips that factor into the complicated tale.

It's a sad state that we, fans of the show, don't have a fucking clue what's supposed to be going on. It's a sign of terrible writing and proof that the writers aren't up to the job.

One more thing that makes me question Saddiq’s story. Who untied Tara, Enid, Henry, and Grace? The Highwaymen didn’t do it. And how did some of them still have weapons like Tara and Enid? Grace had a shovel but they were being held in a barn so that makes sense. It’s possible that one of them got out of their restraints but there were whisperers watching them. The visualization of Saddiq’s story is at odds with the details he provides.

LOL stop calling her GRACE!
That was Brett Butler's character from her OTHER show. But of course, you already knew that.

This show is still on?

It’s only because I can’t remember her character’s name on WD and I have to leave DL to google it. But fuck you anyway.

She wasn’t a bad looking broad. Guess the alcohol and age pickled her face. That show was a Chuck Lorre joint? Man, he’s been around a looong time.

"Former Walking Dead star roasts boss Scott Gimple over Carl Grimes' death"
The Walking Dead has never been shy about killing major characters, but one death that shocked fans of the show was Carl Grimes.
Rick's son, played by Chandler Riggs, died midway through the eighth season after being bitten by a walker during the All-Out War. The events were a surprise because Carl is still alive in the comics to this day and seen as a core part of the source material.
Backlash ensued, and much of the anger was directed at Scott Gimple, who was showrunner at the time.
This week, Riggs ribbed Gimple on social media over his decision to controversially write out Carl.
It happened when the official Walking Dead Twitter account was responding to speculation from viewers over the radio scene at the end of the season 9 finale.
"Y'all need to read the comics," the account said, in response to fans wondering if the mysterious voice that they heard belonged to Maggie or Jadis. The Twitter account was referencing the fact that if the show sticks to the comics, the voice will belong to Stephanie, a new character who is a member of a new group called the Commonwealth.
Riggs took advantage of the post, referencing the fact that Carl's untimely death was a huge diversion from the comics.
"that's what i told scott gimple," he replied.
In February, the star's father posted a lengthy Facebook post stating that he believes Riggs deserved "better treatment" from Gimple.
Carl's storylines from the comics were split between Henry (Matt Lintz) and Carl's younger sister Judith (Cailey Fleming) for season 9. Henry didn't make it to the end of season 9 alive, as he became one of the Whisperers' pike victims.

r196, I think The Walking Dead is trying to follow the formula that has been so successful with the early seasons of Game of Thrones. Have a shocking penultimate episode, followed by a tamer finale. I rather prefer it because you know it'll be an entirety before the next season and it still provides suspense but not a stress inducing off season.

It’s Matt Lintz’s (Henry) 18th birthday today.

Does anyone on this thread plan on watching
the upcoming Fear The Walking Dead season this summer?
by Anonymous | reply 218 | May 26, 2019 3:26 PM |
Probably not.
Now that they killed off Nick and Madison, there's no one left to watch.
I really hate Morgan, and Alicia does nothing for me.
They're adding Dwight to the show as well, but that's still not enough for me to watch.
I really like the guy who plays John Dory (Garrett Dillahunt), but even that's not going to make me watch.
Walking Dead is on life support, so I have a feeling this one is going to be cancelled after this season. It's ratings were never stellar.

"Walking Dead Drops the Disturbing First Scene of Its Midseason Premiere"
We feel ya, Carol. In the opening scene from The Walking Dead’s midseason premiere, dropped Tuesday by AMC, Henry’s grieving mother realizes the full extent of the mess into which she’s unwittingly led not only her bestie, Daryl, but Aaron, Connie, Kelly, Magna and Jerry, too. Once it dawns on the beleaguered heroine both how f—ed they are and how blindly she walked — make that ran — into Alpha’s trap, Carol does the only sensible thing one could: She releases a scream of utter rage and despair.
The bleak clip from Sunday’s “Squeeze” (9/8c) then goes on to reveal the preventative measure that the Whisperers’ leader takes to ensure that none of her prisoners escape from the cave without being gnawed on by the horde of walkers that she’s weaponized. So yeah, it looks bad for the good guys.
However, the show’s official logline for the back half of Season 10 holds out some hope: “The collective communities must come together,” it reads, “and possibly sacrifice all they have to find a way to silence the Whisperers once and for all.” (Hey, I said “some hope,” not “a lot of hope.”) Meanwhile, outside of the cave, AMC continues, “Eugene… believes the mysterious voice he spoke with on the radio may lead to their world getting bigger once again.” (Readers of Robert Kirkman’s source material can already make awfully well-educated guesses about whether he’s right.)

The Walking Dead was good for one season and one season only. AMC butchered it. They slashed the budget immensely, forced actors into shitty conditions and fired the ones that complained, and fired Frank Darabont after the show started getting successful because he was the only one that stood up for artistic integrity.
It's clear with the boring mess that Season 2 was and the never ending barn storyline that the show dies quick. It became a boring soap opera, with almost every scene being nothing more than two characters talking together in a room, only showing the walkers once every five or so episodes. Did you know that originally AMC wanted to not show the Walkers at all after season one because they didn't want to pay for the cost of the SFX and extras?
I'm glad I dropped out early. What a boring, poorly written example of when artistic visions get ruined by greedy networks. It became a piece of shit, and of course, the masses ate it up like mindless zombies. How fitting.
