Teachers at my old high school make 78K per year

The ones that have been there a while. That doesn't seem to bad. Why do they say teachers get so little? Is it much lower in other areas?

How much do you clear if you make 78K per year? Estimates?

by Anonymousreply 26February 23, 2019 12:39 AM

That is not bad but most teachers are poor and they usually need their masters in education.

by Anonymousreply 1February 22, 2019 7:13 AM

Did you mean to type too bad, dear?

by Anonymousreply 2February 22, 2019 7:14 AM

"A while" = decades, OP. In most places, 78K is an end-of-career salary. And, statistically speaking, the majority of teachers don't make it that long, and thus never reach that level.

by Anonymousreply 3February 22, 2019 7:15 AM

There does seem to be a cap r3. Two teachers I know who started 20 years ago make the same as two teachers who started like 35 years ago or more.

by Anonymousreply 4February 22, 2019 7:19 AM

These teachers you speak of clearly didn't teach you grammar, they're not worth it. Where I come from teachers start on about $60,000 and once they've been there for 10 years get $100, 000, and more if they're head of a department

by Anonymousreply 5February 22, 2019 7:25 AM

No amount of money would make me be a teacher. Teachers deserve medals for putting up with the shit kids give them these days, not to mention parents and colleagues too.

by Anonymousreply 6February 22, 2019 7:27 AM

R5, where is that?

by Anonymousreply 7February 22, 2019 7:27 AM

Australia

by Anonymousreply 8February 22, 2019 7:31 AM

[quote]These teachers you speak of clearly didn't teach you grammar, they're not worth it.

OMG r5 you critiqued someone's grammar in a haughty manner and made a grammatical error yourself-----------RUN ON SENTENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How embarrassing for you.

by Anonymousreply 9February 22, 2019 7:32 AM

OMG it's a fucking joke, get over yourself.

by Anonymousreply 10February 22, 2019 7:33 AM

In actual fact it was correct, because the run on sentence was punctuated with a comma

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2019 7:34 AM

run-on sentence. A grammatically faulty sentence in which two or more main or independent clauses are joined without a word to connect them or a punctuation mark to separate them:

HOW EMBARRASSING FOR YOU!

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2019 7:36 AM

OMG [R9] you critiqued someone's grammar in a haughty manner when there was nothing wrong with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - !!!!!

How embarrassing for you.

by Anonymousreply 13February 22, 2019 7:39 AM

Yes, I noticed his run-ons. Twice he made the error.

That's well bad. Take the shame.

by Anonymousreply 14February 22, 2019 7:39 AM

Ain't karma a cunt

by Anonymousreply 15February 22, 2019 7:42 AM

You people realise run on sentences can be separated correctly with a comma,?

by Anonymousreply 16February 22, 2019 7:44 AM

the teachers in my town get 90k a year. rich bitches.

by Anonymousreply 17February 22, 2019 11:13 AM

Of course, it depends on where you live. $ 60,000 in SF is poverty.

by Anonymousreply 18February 22, 2019 11:29 AM

Or; R16; with a semi colin;

by Anonymousreply 19February 22, 2019 11:43 AM

I had a friend who started teaching in NC, her starting salary was a paltry 30k, and she was working herself to bone while barely able to make it financially.

by Anonymousreply 20February 22, 2019 11:50 AM

That teachers in the US, who have the lives of children in their hands, are paid so little, is a disgrace.

by Anonymousreply 21February 22, 2019 12:01 PM

That grammar troll @ R5 should have put a semicolon or a dash after "grammar" OR the word so: "so they're not worth it."

by Anonymousreply 22February 22, 2019 12:21 PM

holy shit, you're stupid.

by Anonymousreply 23February 22, 2019 12:29 PM

Teachers in NY make a lot of money. I know three people who are teachers and are making $120 - $150k for working 180 days a year.

They deserve that much for the hazard pay alone

by Anonymousreply 25February 22, 2019 3:01 PM

Teachers work more than 180 days. That’s the minimum student days, not teachers. You are also not counting the ridiculous amount of unpaid after-school and weekends teachers spend working.

NYC top salary after 22 years completed and a master plus 30 credits just got a pay increase 2/14 to $121,000. You want to teach in NYC? Good luck with your first year, much less 22.
