OP is a loser

If Such cocksucker like malek is the biggest stars of all time, thats says a lot about our times. Retarted people shouldnt be stars
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 17, 2019 6:44 PM |
Biggest stars of all time? No one said that.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 17, 2019 6:45 PM |
Damn, the actor who played Brian May is gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 17, 2019 6:52 PM |
Gwilym Lee is very handsome
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 17, 2019 6:59 PM |
Rami fucking Malek. Oscar winner. Jealous, bitches??
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 17, 2019 7:34 PM |
I can't believe the Oscars are only a week away. It seems like I couldn't wait for the nominations to be announced, and that's been almost a month since.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 17, 2019 7:57 PM |
To reply to the person asking if Mozart really was that crass: Yes, that is true. Dude was obsessed with shit!
I think a Mozart movie could absolutely be successful today too.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 17, 2019 8:18 PM |
The voting system for best picture is interesting. It makes sure the winner is something most of the Academy really agree over, which is good. I think that mostly favours Green Book, maybe BlacKkKlansman and possibly Bohemian Rhapsody. I can't really see more than 50% voting for Roma as either first choice or second choice after an unpopular choice (because they could have already voted for that as best foreign film anyway and Netflix, and possibly Netflix's dirty campaign), but who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 17, 2019 9:03 PM |
Rami Malek and his homosexuality shame should lose. Why did we fight for equality so this closet case can thank his fake girlfriend after working with an accused pedophile.? Let us hope the Oscars puts a stop to this farce.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 17, 2019 9:07 PM |
The whole Rami being closeted and bearding is not fact. Why are people stating it like it is?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 17, 2019 9:23 PM |
Hmmm... I wonder what they have in store for us.
It could be good, awful or just fall flat
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 17, 2019 9:27 PM |
R11 Girly lisping Rami Malek lying about an ex girlfriend ---a make-up Artist beard ---no less. If you think this is straight you must think Shawn Mendez just hasn't met the right girl yet. What has Rami ever done for the Gay Community besides work for an accused pedophile who victimized underage gaylings?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 17, 2019 9:33 PM |
Of course, the topic of the article I linked was : Oscars will use Hollywood outsiders to introduce best picture nominees.
I wonder who will give away best film. They always keep it under wrap.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 17, 2019 9:35 PM |
I hate it. Why Hollywood outsiders? It should be Hollywood legends. Love yourself Hollywood or no one will.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 17, 2019 9:39 PM |
Bette Midler tweets that she's going to sing.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 17, 2019 9:40 PM |
By Hollywood outsiders do they mean cunts like Chloe Sevigny?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 17, 2019 9:41 PM |
That troll at r10 ect. is deranged. Rami Malek must not win because everyone can tell he is a faggot. Really? Yes, really, DL 2019. Why is she not flagged?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 17, 2019 9:42 PM |
R13 so what you're saying is you have no evidence of his bearding and are solely basing it on a late night talk show interview?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 17, 2019 9:50 PM |
R17, they mentionned Serena Williams, as an example.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 17, 2019 9:51 PM |
I think I'm gonna give up on the Oscars. I really hated it when they increased the Best Picture nominees ten years ago. I'm hating more and more the stupid decisions they have made, particularly the last year. WTF?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 17, 2019 9:52 PM |
Serena Williams?? I mean...
Why is the Academy imploding? Why now?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 17, 2019 9:53 PM |
[quote]I really hated it when they increased the Best Picture nominees ten years ago.
All because The Dark Knight didn't make the cut with 5 slots. The Academy is looking like someone going through a mid-life crisis and trying to seem hip to youngsters.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 17, 2019 9:57 PM |
Yeah, I always find it so amusing whenever the Academy refers people to their Twitter or Facebook page. Those Oscars, always down with the kids!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 17, 2019 10:01 PM |
The problem with the Oscars is unfixable. It used to be this was one of the few opportunities to see your favorite celebrity, unless you lived someplace like LA or NY. Now between their Instagram and whatever else we're privy to every moment.
Nothing against Rami, but I wouldnt look out the window if he was appearing in my front yard.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 17, 2019 10:05 PM |
What if he was presenting his hole, R26?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 17, 2019 10:08 PM |
I personally find Rami beautiful. He has such a unique look.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 17, 2019 10:10 PM |
R27 do you really think he has an anus?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 17, 2019 10:13 PM |
R28 = you must have a closeted, bug eyed, feminine bottom fetish. But, to each their own...
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 17, 2019 10:17 PM |
The first time I saw Rami was in the 2013 indie SHORT TERM 12 starring Brie Larson who had Oscar buzz for that film. Anyway, Rami plays a new staff at the group home. His character Nate is so awkward and can't seem to catch a break with the kids. I too became smitten by him.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 17, 2019 10:18 PM |
R31 = OMG. He was God Awful even in 2013?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 17, 2019 10:24 PM |
He’s always been amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 17, 2019 10:40 PM |
R33 You dont believe what you say . What a troll
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 17, 2019 10:54 PM |
I believe what I say. Loser.
Glenn gave a powerful performance. I’m confused why some of you diss it.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 17, 2019 10:57 PM |
R35 i dont think so. You sound funny
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 17, 2019 10:59 PM |
Glenn is incredible in that scene. I love her like, “Your wife - who just won THE NOBEL PRIZE!?”
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 17, 2019 11:09 PM |
R37 her face is incredible here. Her expression.... she doesn’t even have to utter a word.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 17, 2019 11:12 PM |
This video is fun and Rami looks adorable. However, I notice he didn’t speak with that clenched jaw like he does now. This wasn’t just in 2016.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 17, 2019 11:45 PM |
Adulation for Glenn and the continuance of Rami obsession? This thread is as misguided as the Academy at present.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 17, 2019 11:50 PM |
The Wifw was a terrible movie with a trite obvious plot and tortured overacting. Please no awards.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 18, 2019 12:03 AM |
R39 = In the video Rami Malek looks like he's more into the flaming moderator than the horse face chick next to him. You think THAT's "adorable". Girl, you gotta get out more. Start a crowdfund and raise money for a Bathhouse membership. LoL
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 18, 2019 12:17 AM |
Rami looks like he is having fun and enjoying himself.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 18, 2019 12:19 AM |
Have I won yet? I'm bored reading about everyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 18, 2019 12:22 AM |
Rami was one of the prisoners on [italic]Alcatraz[/italic]. In case I'm not the only Datalounger who watched that, he played the young guy who suffered ringing in his ears, then took up the violin successfully.
It was an interesting concept show, but it had some fatal casting mistakes in the main cast. Lots of good guest stars, though. I've seen them pop up on other series.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 18, 2019 12:33 AM |
Neither Best Picture front runner triumphed at the WGA in Original Screenplay, and both Roma and Green Book got beat by a film that wasn’t even nominated (Eighth Grade). What does that mean for the Oscars? (The Favourite wasn’t eligible).
Adapted Screenplay hasn’t been given out yet, but with the way this year has gone, watch Bradley Cooper beat Spike Lee, because nothing about this season makes sense.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 18, 2019 2:45 AM |
It wasn’t Bradley Cooper, but the Adapted winner was also unexpected. Can You Ever Forgive Me? won.
It kind of makes sense, though, since three black moves competed against one another in the category (yes, it shouldn’t matter, but it probably does), and Nicole Holofcener is very well-respected as a writer.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 18, 2019 2:54 AM |
Can You Ever Forgive Me? won Adapted Screenplay at the WGAs tonight.
I think there will be several surprises a week from tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 18, 2019 3:16 AM |
I worry that the WGA snubbing Green Book was a reflection of the fact that writers tend to have better taste than actors, but the acting branch of the Academy will help the dick flasher and the MAGA tweeter win the Oscar.
It’s kind of crazy that, at the top guilds, only two films have won multiple awards: Green Book (PGA, SAG Supporting Actor), and the Oscar-snubbed Eighth Grade (WGA, DGA Debut). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a season this split, and the fact that the guilds keep going for choices the Oscars rejected, like Emily Blunt at SAG, is telling.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 18, 2019 3:33 AM |
Rami Malek! Lady Gaga! Glenn Close! I don't care!!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 18, 2019 3:37 AM |
Sorry. I can’t deal with this raminsanity on this thread. I started a new one for people who actually want to discuss film and the Oscars. Not Rami Malek.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 18, 2019 4:21 AM |
These are the current odds set by Vegas for this years Oscars for Best Picture
Roma - 532 // Green book + 439 // Black Panther +1418 // The Favorite +1993
ASIB +1616 // B R +2187 //B K +4120 // Vice +5000
So if you were to bet 10 bucks on Black Panther you would win $141.00
10 on Roma you would win $1.80
For the High Rollers 100 on Roma wins $18.80
100 on Greenbook wins you $438.00
It's tempting to bet those underdogs. But Vegas bookmakers know what they are doing. Roma is the heavy favorite for a reason.
The other category's the heavy Favorites are Close, Rami, Ali and R. King
Good Luck!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 18, 2019 5:00 AM |
I have my doubts about the bookmakers knowing exactly what they are doing.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 18, 2019 7:00 AM |
There doesn’t need to be a second thread. You can easily post what you want here.
You’re the one choosing to continue the Rami talk. Dumbass
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 18, 2019 11:17 AM |
So GB wont win BP???
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 18, 2019 11:50 AM |
[quote]the acting branch of the Academy will help the dick flasher and the MAGA tweeter win the Oscar.
That's such black-and-white thinking and oversimplifying the situation. But both extremes tend to do that.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 18, 2019 12:24 PM |
r49 Bohemian Rhapsody also won multiple awards from the guilds: SAG actor and Editing. Or are you defining Editing as not top for the purpose of ignoring BR?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 18, 2019 12:59 PM |
BR could win BP. We have to at least consider that a possibility.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 18, 2019 2:53 PM |
It won't win.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 18, 2019 2:57 PM |
I too think it could, many people love that film.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 18, 2019 3:01 PM |
I would love if BR won.
The haters heads would explode
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 18, 2019 4:16 PM |
What has to be considered with BR is that it couldn't have been nominated for director. You can't reward someone who doesn't even manage to finish shooting a film as best director, no matter what. This is not evidence that the directors voting body does not like the film, I think many might. Editors apparently love it, actors are all all about Malek in it at least... This could work out.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 18, 2019 4:17 PM |
It could also be a FUCK YOU vote to the Academy for their disastrous choices for the telecast.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 18, 2019 4:19 PM |
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
We welcome @QueenWillRock and @adamlambert to this year's #Oscars!

You act like he's the only closeted actor in Hollywood that make no sense.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 18, 2019 5:07 PM |
Christ, are they actually going to put the brit equivalent of a fat Vegas Elvis on the Oscars and let them perform? Well, why not? It sounds about right for this year's shitshow.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 18, 2019 5:12 PM |
So, (drum roll) Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be chanteusing (that's singing) on the Oscars on Feb 24...the nominated song from "Mary Poppins"..."The Place Where Lost Things Go" ...so excited!!

R69 I hope Lambert isn’t performing lmao
by Anonymous | reply 70 | February 18, 2019 5:28 PM |
Yep, I thought so. Brian May said "No, we never refused the offer" and people interpreted that to mean they were not asked to play, which seemed bold.

by Anonymous | reply 74 | February 18, 2019 5:30 PM |
R74 Queen + Lambert . Lambert sings.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | February 18, 2019 5:31 PM |
Why didn't they ask Rami Malek to perform?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | February 18, 2019 5:33 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 77 | February 18, 2019 5:34 PM |
Rami is an actor. Not Singer.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | February 18, 2019 5:35 PM |
Lambert's acting is decent why wasn't he offered a supporting role in Bohemian Rhapsody?

by Anonymous | reply 97 | February 18, 2019 7:40 PM |
Most of you guys are probably not aware of this, but in Mexico several famous people there have spoken out against the fact that Yalitza Aparicio was nominated for an Oscar. It’s mainly been famous females who have spoken out against her (envy?). They’ve called her “ugly” or said she didn’t deserve to be nominated, among other things. Recently a story broke out about a famous actor who was recorded on a phone camera saying “How could they nominate a fucking indian who says ‘yes ma’am, no ma’am‘?”. What a racist bastard!!! And he’s just one example. It’s really disgraceful because they should be proud for her and happy for her nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | February 18, 2019 8:26 PM |
Racist scum. Unimaginable not to be somewhat proud and supportive of someone from your (not English speaking) country being nominated for an Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | February 18, 2019 8:32 PM |
OMG Queen looks to be opening the freaking show Sunday!! It says they are performing in tribute to Bohemian Rhapsody!!
Amazing news! But once again ASIB is overshadowed by BR lol I bet Bradley Cooper wanted to punch someone when he heard the news lol
by Anonymous | reply 100 | February 18, 2019 8:44 PM |
NY times put something like this up..20 anonymous Oscar voters spoke of the best pic noms among other things..
Some mentioned not being happy BP was a best pic nom, guess they don’t like Disney lol
Another said they are fed up being told what to like or not like & what to vote for..so out of rage they voting GB for best pic haha
All 20 voters when asked said they are voting Rami Malek for best actor!
by Anonymous | reply 101 | February 18, 2019 8:45 PM |
Voters like being on the winning team. And this dark comedy set in the court of Queen Anne (circa 1710), while widely admired for its performances, script and costumes, has mostly been a loser at the big pre-Oscar ceremonies. “I love this nasty little movie, but I don’t want to throw my vote away,” one person told me, adding that she was waiting until the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards to make her decision. (“The Favourite” won seven Baftas on Sunday, but lost the big prize to “Roma.”)
[bold]Others seemed unsure whether “The Favourite” sent a positive message about women (Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz lead the cast) or ultimately reinforces a “Mean Girls” stereotype (they scheme, double-cross and manipulate).[/bold]
by Anonymous | reply 102 | February 18, 2019 8:47 PM |
All 20 voters when asked said they are voting Rami Malek for best actor! dont you wonder why? Do you think this is a coinsidence? The KNOW what they re doing , They re doing it for purpose

Oscars will use Hollywood outsiders to introduce Best Picture nominees
by Anonymous | reply 104 | February 18, 2019 9:10 PM |
Another stupid idea. How is having some random people “outside the world of entertainment” ramble on about how a movie impacted their lives going to make the show shorter or get better ratings? Seriously they were going to give away awards during commercial breaks to make time for this?
by Anonymous | reply 105 | February 18, 2019 9:11 PM |
Some of these presenters turn up at so many ceremonies and don’t need to be included again, for example Charlize Theron, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jennifer Lopez… boring list

by Anonymous | reply 123 | February 18, 2019 9:45 PM |
Lawrence's main competition was Emmanuelle Riva who didn't do much of anything in her film and was pretty much supporting. She was mostly bed-ridden and silent throughout, not even moving toward the end. Rather, Jean-Louis Trintignant carried the entire picture and he didn't even get a nod.

A song Madonna has sung won an Oscar not Madonna herself. I wouldn’t hold my breath if you are a fan and waiting for her to win the big award.
Also when I recently watched The Grammys I learned it is not uncommon for a group of people to write a song. I think one nominee for Best Song had six people.

Kelly Clarkson Covered “Shallow” and the Internet Lost It
Kelly Clarkson gave the infectious hit a go—and the Internet promptly lost it over her killer performance. “I know there’s always a lot of competition with other artists in the industry, but there’s a lot of us that just dig each other,” Clarkson says, introducing the cover. “This song, I love it . . . . We’re gonna do our version of it, because obviously I don’t have a Bradley Cooper here. So I’m just holdin’ it down.” Clarkson proceeds to sing it effortlessly, her signature power-rasp voice lending itself perfectly to the tune; who needs it to be a duet when your voice is strong enough to go at it solo?
by Anonymous | reply 149 | February 19, 2019 12:41 PM |
R144/146 they're just saying that to drum up interest for the broadcast and have people watch expecting surprises but same old winners. I think Actor and Actress are pretty much locked.

Known contrarian Bret Easton Ellis actually salutes the Oscar gay pics.
Best actor and best supporting actor are likely going to be awarded to Rami Malek from Bohemian Rhapsody and Mahershala Ali from Green Book for playing two real-life characters who were gay and closeted (Freddie Mercury and Don Shirley, respectively). That's a remarkable first that no one seems to be commenting on. Just as no one seems to be heralding the fact that Bohemian Rhapsody, a movie with a gay man — the movie's hero — at the center of its nearly 135-minute running time is now the highest-grossing drama ever made. Despite its PG-13 rating and lack of sex and nudity, it actually navigates more deeply than I thought it would the complicated gay relationships Freddie had. And in often dark ways — if at times clumsily handled — it doesn't shy away from his gay pain.

I’m going to be really happy for Glenn Close when/if she wins, but I would DIE if Melissa McCarthy won. I thought she was the clear stand-out in this category. I still think that Richard E. Grant could be a dark horse in his category.

I want Olivia but will be happy if Melissa wins. I’m hoping people are realizing what a crock of shit The Wife is and how great these two performance are. Hopefully They think Glen should win a special Oscar or maybe something in the supporting category one day.

I wonder why All the Stars was chosen for best song instead of Pray for me by the weekend (from Black Panther). I think it is the much better song, and would have had a shot at beating Shallow.

by Anonymous | reply 163 | February 19, 2019 3:10 PM |
The ones who are complaining about BR being straight-washed are just pissed that Sacha Baron Cohen's versions with graphic nudity/sex didn't get made. All they wanted to see was sex, ass, and possibly dick. I bet it's the same people who last year hated on CALL ME BY YOUR NAME ad neauseam when they learned that there was originally supposed to be full frontal nudity. So instead they championed GOD'S OWN COUNTRY, which did feature nudity/sex.

I'm rooting for Diane Warren, if you want to talk about overdue. She's been nominated 10 times in the past 30 years and never won. She was just nominated last year for the MARSHALL movie. In fact, she's had 4 nominations in the past 5 years.

You gotta give Richard E. Grant credit for running a flawless Oscar PR campaign. His endless gushing over other actors is always a winning strategy in Hollywood. He has other actors rooting for him, while Gaga's aggressive PR campaign had everyone rooting AGAINST her.

Speaking to Variety, the actor, 61, explained it was unreal 'going to the Governors Ball and while speaking to Emily Blunt for the first time in my life, being interrupted from behind by Tom Hanks saying, "You’re perfect in your movie, you’re wonderful, you should win everything."
Going on to talk about his preparation for the Oscars, Richard revealed he hasn't prepared a speech because he thinks that it's a 'foolish' thing to do.
The Star Wars: Episode IX actor said: 'Most certainly not. That would be foolish. The man that has to have the speech planned is the man who has had to come up with four different speeches for the four different awards that he’s already won.'

R146- So someone should have clued in Bradley Cooper about trying for Best Director and then he wouldn't have worked so hard to get it. I'm glad they are up for Adapted Screenplay, but I wish they were up for Best Picture. I feel like Regina King will win for BEALE, but I don't know if CYEFM will walk away with anything. I have been wanting to see Can you ever forgive me for months. I am a big fan of Melissa, the story sounded very interesting, and the critics have been raving about it.
I was a little disappointed. Maybe the trailer gives away most of the plot, and I had real a lot about the movie beforehand. But I feel like she plays a variation of the same character in Identity Thief and The Boss where she does Bad Things but in the end reveals she is a good person. Just without the laughs.
Her character just seems to nice to just fall through the cracks. The real Lee Israel was supposedly a mean, hard alcoholic, I just didn't quite buy Melissa in this role.

it is schematic movie made for masses. Calculated. Only music and copies of scene concers can arouse some emotions . but it is sentimental. It is because of Freddie and Queen. Acting scenes are terrible. Simple entertainment for the masses

A painter, a driver, a politician and a couple of musicians walk into the Oscars. But the math says that just two of them combine for over a 90 percent chance to win.
The politician, Vice President Dick Cheney as portrayed by a heavily made-up Christian Bale, won the Critics Choice Award and the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy/musical. But one of those two musicians, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury as embodied by Rami Malek, cleaned up down the stretch of awards season. Malek took the other Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild and the BAFTA, and suddenly a close race doesn’t look quite so close any more.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | February 20, 2019 4:21 PM |
People often like to say that their favorite actor or actress is due to win an Oscar. But not since Peter O’Toole’s eighth and final nomination for Venus (2006) has that statement been so true. Glenn Close leads all living actors for the title of most nominations (seven) without a win. I’ll admit I’m still scratching my head over how she didn’t win for Fatal Attraction (1987).
Close is the mathematical favorite to finally stand on that stage thanks to Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe wins. But she tied Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) at the Critics Choice Awards and lost to Olivia Colman (The Favourite) at the BAFTAs, so neither of those competitors can safely be ruled out.

You're kind of a moron. May holds the reins to the music with an iron grip. He didn't "get involved," he was who anyone had to deal with if they wanted to make a movie. He's the reason SBC walked from the film. May didn't want the truth, he wanted a PG-13 bullshit fest designed to sell Queen's music. And he got it.

Particularly outrageous amid the overpraise of Cooper's film has been denigration of the previous, 1976 version, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, [bold]from whose performance Cooper heavily borrowed. Except[/bold], that is, for Kristofferson's robust sexy allure: With his greasy hair, hobo beard and chronic slump, [bold]Cooper scarcely manages more than two facial expressions (dull and duller) throughout.[/bold]

I'm really tired of the "Spike Lee is overdue" narrative. He got an honorary Oscar. That's plenty for him. The guy has made way more unwatchable dreck than he has great cinema. Not everyone deserves an Oscar for managing to stick around for 30 years.

Yes, he did get involved in someone else's plan for a Freddie movie and DUH you don't say he is who anyone had to deal with if they wanted to make a movie. It's their fucking music/legacy. They also had to deal with Roger Taylor, that might be easier, but it's not like he didn't care at all.
Great that May was so involved and upped the authenticity and we don't have to watch SBC trying to be so outrageous on Freddi's costs.

Paltrow should never have won that Oscar. Cate Blanchett's performance that year was generational in greatness. Harvey Weinstein spent tens of millions of dollars buying paltrow's Oscar. So much so that the Academy had to change the rules for lobbying directly because of Weinstein's Paltrow Oscar campaign. All of this is well known in the industry.

R281 maybe that's why they put her in supporting. She was clearly lead in her film. She had about the same amount of screen time (if not more) as co-star and Best Actor winner Eddie Redmayne and also had her own plot line. They figured she was too bland to win or even get a Best Actress nomination, so they put her in supporting where it is less competitive.

R306 That was a fun night here on DL.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | February 20, 2019 7:29 PM |
How was that Faye’s fault? It was totally confusing, they had given them the wrong card, and then they sat there on there asses and let three people give speeches before it was then out on one of the La La Land people to announce the error. The Academy botched that so hardcore. Especially after they had been so forceful in circulating the policy that the Academy would immediately take to the stage if a non-winner was announced as the winner, something they put out around the time of those rumors that Jack Palance had mistakenly named Marisa Tomei as the Best Supporting Actress winner in 1993.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | February 20, 2019 7:32 PM |
R309 not the Academy, PricewaterhouseCoopers. Or rather, its two representatives. They are the only ones who know the winners. They each stand on either wing with a briefcase. After the Tomei win, they (PwC) went out of their way to declare that if ever a wrong winner was announced, one of their agents would immediately rush in and correct the mistake. All the Academy could say was that the correct Actress won.

R313, I wasn’t born at the time, but 1975 is widely considered to be one of the weakest years in the category ever, and Ann-Margret was in an era when she was surprisingly acclaimed (so was Ken Russell, for that matter).
Ellen Burstyn, who won the year before, called for a boycott based on how terrible the leading roles for women were that year. (I think there were a ton of great roles for women in 1975, but all of them were supporting actresses in Nashville).

R379, and both lost at BAFTA. Timmy's bad luck, he keeps on losing things.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | February 22, 2019 11:45 AM |
Timothee's supremely lucky, actually. He shouldn't want to become another Jennifer Lawrence who racks up tons of nominations, and a win, early in her career and then disappears. Not winning on his first nomination and not being nominated the next year will give him a reason to keep working hard, and the Academy won't feel like they've over-lauded him.
He'll probably have to deal with what Leonardo DiCaprio faced, which ultimately gains you tons of public sympathy and a respectable long term career.

I'm a big Gaga fan and thought she did fantastic, but the two best performances in BA are McCarthy's and Colman. Because McCarthy's role was the actual lead, I'd give it to her - if I ruled the world. That said, I love Glenn and am fine with her winning for her oeuvre.
I actually preferred Cooper's performance over Rami's - though I did like Rami's. The first third of BR was tough to watch. Zero character development, everything happened way too fast. I know that's not really Rami's fault, but it's why I like Cooper's performance. But Rami's a lock. (Didn't see Green Book and I would never waste money to watch Vice. I lived through that nightmare.)

I recently watched the Wife. Glenn is good and says a lot with just her eyes. She has a few great scenes where her emotions are laid bare. However the movie is a bit dull and slow. She'll still win despite the movie not being great.

Many actors have won for roles in films that weren’t great.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | February 22, 2019 8:22 PM |
R403 I know and often its valid. It's an award for the actor not the film. But I honestly think shes only slightly better than Gaga when comparing their performances. Yalitza is serviceable for what she was asked to do. I haven't seen the other two.

Gaga is the future and an Oscar win for Best Actress does a lot for the industry. She has a young fan base and they are movie goers. Glenn Close winning would be oh, nice but how does that help the movie biz? It doesn't. I think young and progressive Hollywood goes for Gaga in a huge upset.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | February 22, 2019 8:31 PM |
R407 I think they're going with Rami for that demographic. I think he has been that person since award season began in early January. Gaga sort of fell by the wayside around the same time.

Nick Jonas is currently filming his Fourth film in the past year. Rami Malek is currently filming a cancelled tv show—and zero movie offers. Hollywood is already rejecting Rami Malek. The Oscar won’t change that. He and his closet, and his bug eyes, and his fake girlfriend, and his Bryan Singer Amnesia will be has beens 3 months from now...

by Anonymous | reply 417 | February 23, 2019 12:50 AM |
I'm not a Rami stan and even I don't understand the comparisons to Nick Jonas. Rami was playing bit parts for the longest time before Mr. Robot and Bohemian Rhapsody came along whereas Nick Jonas has been in the business since he was a kid.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | February 23, 2019 12:59 AM |
Dude. Move on. You’re obsessed. The series isn’t canceled for any reason other than they’re wrapping the story up and Rami decided he wouldn’t do another after.
Rami has been offered work. He hasn’t accepted anything.

Whoopi is hosting the Oscars, but it's being kept secret.
According to my connected friends, Spike Lee is a lock for Director.
They also said that Rami is neck-and-neck with Bale. It could go either way. Lots of Academy voters loved VICE and they want to reward the film by giving Best Actor to Bale. I think Bale has to be the favorite going into the big weekend.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | February 23, 2019 1:08 AM |
Bullshit, all of that.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | February 23, 2019 1:09 AM |
R421 = My insiders line up with yours.....Also Academy Voters questioned giving a nobody like Rami an award over people who have dedication to the motion picture field. That’s why Bale started pulling ahead. Plus I heard complaints about Ramis “transformation”——What transformation? Fake teeth? Bale took hours every day to play Cheney...Also Rami was reportedly rude to female actors at awards shows, and only seemed to have time for attractive male actors...

R426 Ramis behavior was disrespectful at awards shows and gatherings. Actresses would come over to tell him they loved his performance and he would roll his eyes at them. It annoyes me when voters candidly state they haven't seen that film or those performances, therefore they exclude them, without being embarrassed at all. Do your job seriously and watch all there is to watch ! It is a priviledge to be able to vote for the Oscars, take it seriously.
Also, is it me or there are too many people revealing their ballots this year ? It is like they just can't keep quiet. While they are at it, why not spoile it completely and post a pic of the final tally. That way, they will have a huuuuuge scoop, they wil get all the clicks and finally, there won't be any suspens left.

by Anonymous | reply 461 | February 23, 2019 4:04 PM |
It’s not gonna be an “SJW” nothing. There were a lot of good films and performances from people of color this past year.
Happy to see them getting acknowledged and it not just being a sea of white.
by Anonymous | reply 462 | February 23, 2019 4:06 PM |
My co-worker the other day told me she absolutely HATED "The Favourite." Literally went on and on about how awful she thought it was.
So there you go.
by Anonymous | reply 463 | February 23, 2019 4:07 PM |
R462, it doesn't matter, unfortunately. As we've seen time and time again, no matter how much people of color deliver work every bit as good and (legitimately) deserving of awards as their white counterparts, there will always be those who try to dismiss their achievements with "SJW" or "it's just white guilt," etc. They would rather die than admit that not only whites are talented and worthy of Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 464 | February 23, 2019 4:14 PM |
She’s not the only one... “The Favourite” isn’t a film that would ever be appreciated by the masses or liked. Most would dislike it. It’s a small film with reason.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | February 23, 2019 4:14 PM |
A few years ago Yalitza and many of the other people of color wouldn’t be getting nominated for their good work. I can assure you someone like Blunt would get nominated for MPR over Yalitza. Thank God they changed the voting and added many younger voters and people of color so more than just white people can be acknowledged.
It’s sad it even took that. I’m a white man that would nominate any performance of work that deserved the nomination. Color shouldn’t matter, but sadly, it does with so many. They can’t see a person of color Do well. They’re the type that believe a black man can’t do what a white man can without the help of the white man, as mentioned in BlackKklansmen.

Not that those Razzie "winners" aren't apt, but there's talk that the Razzies are rigged.
GARDNER: Yes, correct. So this anonymous source sent us a ballot on the day the nominations closed alleging that some of the nominees who received enough votes to get nominated for a Razzie award were replaced by some other higher-profile actors, some other higher-profile films.
KELLY: So give me an example of a film or an actor who seemed like they made the cut but then ended up not being on the shortlist.
GARDNER: So the shark attack pick "The Meg" received enough votes to come in 11th place, but somehow it is included among the top five nominees this year. Kevin Spacey of "Billionaire Boys Club" got enough votes to be included among the top five but did not make the final cut actually and instead replaced by Bruce Willis and Johnny Depp
by Anonymous | reply 479 | February 23, 2019 7:07 PM |
In a way that doesn't make any sense. Why rig it so that Spacey gets pushed out by Willis or Depp? I'd argue that he's just as big a name as they are, if not bigger (he has an Oscar, they do not). Is it because they thought one of the other two would garner more attention? As I said, makes no sense.

R459 interesting. I agree. Bradley Cooper gave a far superior performance than the “frontrunner” Rami Malek. There was a lot of layers and nuance to Cooper’s portrayal of alcoholism and he and Gaga did have actual chemistry. I’m finalizing my predictions for tomorrow, and am just about to choose CYEFM over BlacKKKlansman for Adapted because it’s a very writer-centric film and Nicole Holofcener is seen as more of a writer who directs than Spike Lee, whose reputation is based on his direction. Talk me out of it before I do something stupid, DL Oscar obsessives!

Did anybody else see what Glen Close wore to the Spirit Awards? Good grief. Let's design a pantsuit made out of wrinkled aluminum foil for one of my big nights, was not a good idea.

R499 his speech was so touching. I really wish he would win tomorrow.

Did anyone catch the Bohemian Rhapsody joke John Waters made during the Spirit Awards and the Rami Malek drag Michael Keaton made before presenting the best film? I. Was. Laughing. No one who knows film can take these nominations seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 503 | February 24, 2019 3:28 AM |
Who is John Waters?
Keaton didn't get much of a crowd reaction to his joke. It just seems like sour grapes coming from him. He's still pissed that he lost to Redmayne.

What joke did he make? Waters and Keaton?

I did not like the Spirit awards that didn’t feel independentl at all. How come the Favourite girls were not nominated ?
Spike Lee win not because he deserves it but because he is ‘ due ‘ and the diversity virus.

Hah, now we arrived at holding it against Malek that he doesn't thank Singer in acceptance speeches. This is getting desperate.
I'm a little worried he won't win, because he's bee winning for so long, it might be getting a bit boring for some voters perhaps. I really want him to win today! That's the crown he deserves. However, Bale would be an OK choice, I think. I don't know because I haven't seen Vice yet. Dying to see it though. I'm very relieved Cooper has no chance in hell.
Hope the rumours about Spike Lee winning are correct. And I pray Roma doesn't get best picture, because fucking Netflix.
Do I sound a little over-excited? I might be.
by Anonymous | reply 517 | February 24, 2019 1:05 PM |
Amount of money for roma campaing is disgusting, How is that fair?? It seems a lot of that money went to bank accounts of Academy members. It is likely umseemly
by Anonymous | reply 518 | February 24, 2019 1:14 PM |
Worst is the money that went into smear campaigning. Trying to ruin people's award chances, with no concern of possibly ruining their future along with it. And this isn't world politics, it really doesn't have to be that way in the show biz. Fuck Netflix, I want to boycott it. (but it's hopeless, I know).
by Anonymous | reply 519 | February 24, 2019 1:29 PM |
OMG. Glenn Close really did take her fucking dog to an awards show and brought it onstage. What an entitled bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | February 24, 2019 1:36 PM |
Netflix I’m sure sees it as money well spent. It wants to be seen as a force that can win best pic Oscars now. Even if it doesn’t pull off a win tonight I think it’s only a matter of time for them before they do. In many ways they’ve conquered their last mountain and is redefining the future of the industry.

by Anonymous | reply 525 | February 24, 2019 1:42 PM |
I agree, Green Book probably wins and that's fine. BlackKklansman and Bohemian Rhapsody might also have a chance and I'd prefer those. Some will lose their fucking minds if BR wins! It would be glorious. Oh, and it deserves it.
Roma, ASIB and Black Panther would be horrible choices.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a worthy nominee and winner! A great film, hope it wins all those editing and sound awards as well. It possibly saved the future of cinema, in which there can be success without explosions, and created a whole new future for gay cinema, in which you can make money despite the gay.
Perhaps the most worthy winner ever.

I think Hollywood has discovered like the Holocaust racism is Oscar gold It does seem that diversity has been forced in movies and awards. If the right actor is cast it doesn’t matter and I can’t think of one actor of color winning Oscar that was undeserved. The most glaring undeserved nominee this year is Sam Rockwell.

[quote]Ali is black , that his advantage
Sorry to break it to you but in 90 years of Oscar, for the first 50-plus years, being white was the advantage, not the other way around, which is why the list of undeserving white winners far outpaces the list of undeserving black winners (a fact the racists always choose to ignore). This is why the Academy sought to diversify its membership -- not to take awards away from white people but to give ALL nominees, regardless of race, a fair shot at winning and end the cycle of non-whites only being nominated occasionally and losing almost every time (what the bigots would no doubt refer to as "the good ol' days"). And while we're at it, perhaps a more diverse voting bloc can also help with this issue, too:
[quote]Eddie Murphy is an asshole so it was decided to give it to the just as good Alan Adkin.
And yet being an asshole didn't stop them from giving Oscars to Dustin Hoffman, Sean Penn, Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, so apparently only black actors are not allowed to be jerks and win.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | February 24, 2019 4:29 PM |
R570 Yes, you are right, why you are so taking it as something offensive? back then oscars were more white, but that activity like #oscarstoowhite or something like that changed everything..Every year we have at least one black actor.actress and since then many more are nominated...So thats why i think Ali is locked , and Regina also . No black actors have chance to win in lead category so they will give them in supporting.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | February 24, 2019 4:37 PM |
Ali is a fantastic actor discovered later in his career, so he’s getting better roles now than he ever had and turning in incredible performances. He deserves the accolades. The sad thing is, Richard E Grant is not at the same level and CYEFM was a godsend for his career. He also deserves the accolades for this performance. It’s a tough year. In a perfect world, they would tie.

R529 I would love to see Bohemian Rhapsody win Best Picture! But I don't think it will, for a variety of reasons, the first being that it was directed by Bryan Singer. It will probably be Roma, which will make Academy history if it wins both Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Film in the same year. A Star is Born? I doubt it. Black Panther? It's not worthy of a best pic nomination IMO, let alone a win. I really enjoyed Green Book, but not sure about that one. I can usually predict which film will win, but this year it's pretty tough.

Netflix spending $30M to buy an Oscar for a made for TV film is a travesty. Roma winning Best Picture would be a pox on everything the Academy represents.

Redmayne was better than Keaton and Keaton is not very liked in the industry that's the reason he didn't win Oscar and I think success of Birdman helped him a lot in winning critics awards.
Stallone lost for the same reason Stallone is not respected or liked in Hollywood.
