All for the status of living in downtown Toronto - but I guess New Yorkers can relate.
Gay Couple Pays $1850 Monthly For Micro Condo - The Size Of Walk-In Closet

by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 15, 2019 9:39 PM |
There's status in living in downtown Toronto? It's hideous.

This is the generation that really got screwed by the Great Recession. They have huge student debt and they watched their parents lose their homes.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 15, 2019 9:58 PM |
It looks like a nice space. Having a view and small balcony makes it feel more spacious than it is.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 15, 2019 9:59 PM |
No duvet cover?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 15, 2019 10:04 PM |
Yeah, maybe if it’s in HAWAII R9.
If we lived in a place like that I would go insane. Husband always has the damn TV on and I need to go to the bedroom to escape it from time to time.
As a single, I could totally do it. As a couple with an animal that shits inside your tiny space like these queens? Fuck that.

Nicer than one of those crappy NYC micro POS. At least it's new. I wonder what the building's amenities are...

Okay OP What size is your walk in closet?? That apartment is small, yes, but not closet-sized. It's basically like a motel room.
Also they're both cute and the accent makes them cuter.
Also, 82 views on youtube? OP how did you find this?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 15, 2019 10:47 PM |
R11 I agree with you. I would never do laundry in that space.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 15, 2019 10:59 PM |
Toronto sucks now.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 15, 2019 11:34 PM |
They are cute as buttons, but theres NO WAY Id ever live in something that small with anyone. I wouldnt live in it alone,I need my space.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 16, 2019 12:57 AM |
My bedroom is bigger than that whole apartment. I'd lose my mind in a place like that. But I guess young ones like those boys don't spend much time there, other than sleeping.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 16, 2019 1:11 AM |
There was a hallway, I guess leading to the bathroom.
Their place was small but surely bigger than the average walk-in closet, unless you live in a McMansion and your walk-in closet is the size of an actual large room.

Agreed, R8. I'm an older Millennial, and tiny houses and micro condos are often the best we can do. These guys seem proud of their place, and I wish them the best, but, yeah, that's a tight squeeze for the average couple.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 16, 2019 1:38 AM |
Are they required to use micro-condoms as well?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 16, 2019 1:46 AM |
I love those displays they have in IKEA with titles like "See what you can do with just 365 square feet!" The way they have things arranged is always quite clever and looks like it would be fun -- for about a week.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 16, 2019 9:27 PM |
Fine for 1 person. Or 2 people - if they had a cheap weekend cabin. Having lived out of hotel rooms for years when I travelled for work, you get used to it. You really don’t need much more. But 2 people living full time is gonna get old eventually.

The cat box isn't terrible if you scoop twice a day and fling the results off the balcony into the street below.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 18, 2019 5:39 AM |
I feel sorry for the cat. It never leaves the apartment; it's like living in a cage. Someday it will jump or fall off that balcony since it has no idea there is danger.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 18, 2019 6:39 AM |
R39 It will know what it's doing when it 'falls' off the balcony.

Where would someone keep their clothes? I have a walk-in closet that's completely filled with shirts, plus two more regular closets and five freestanding clothes racks, all filled. They live in a cold climate so that's at least 8 seasons of different clothes, multiplied by business vs several levels of casual plus the need for jackets, coats and sweaters. That's just tops, so space would also be needed for pants, underwear, sleepwear and loungewear.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 18, 2019 9:05 AM |
You brought this on yourselves by voting leftist.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 18, 2019 9:23 AM |
For me alone it would be perfect. I am a lazy fuck and hate to clean. It probably takes ten minutes to clean the whole thing since you can't make much of a mess in the first place (with just a couple of things out of place you probably can't move as freely as you want).
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 18, 2019 10:13 AM |
I imagine they hear neighbors speaking and toilets flushing all around them.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 18, 2019 10:31 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 18, 2019 11:25 AM |
Honey R42, you have too many clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 19, 2019 5:36 PM |
R24 Both definitely sound Quebecois, which means speaking French the French ridicule here transmuted into English.
Is that $1850 Canadian? If so, it's about $1400 USD which, for a micro-apartment downtown in comparable US cities would be a steal. Especially because it's a new-build with a balcony and nice appliances.
OTOH, my bar is bigger than their kitchen. And my kitchen is bigger than their apartment.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 19, 2019 6:03 PM |
I live in their building! I've seen them before, Queen street is expensive....it's trendy and everything at your doorstep, however, my mortgage is only $500 more a month and I have 2 bedrooms and 1 and 1/2 baths in the same building

I lived in 435 sq ft with my partner and two small dogs during grad school. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I ended up taking my dogs for a lot more walks and enjoying the outdoors more than usual. I also went to the gym regularly. I became more of a minimalist realizing I didn't need anything I was storing in an expensive storage facility. I don't know if I could do it in Toronto though. The cold weather might force me indoors.

Americans are spoiled. It’s all a matter of what you are used to. I’ve lived in 400 square feet for 30 years. More than adequate. You learn not to buy or keep a lot of things. Forced Kondo living. Very freeing. I know families of 4 who live in the same space as I do - which would be tough. But for me, it’s perfect.

Living by yourself in a small space is very different than living with someone else in a small space. It is kind of weird that most of you are not bothered by the large price for the small place. No wonder your employers can rob you blind, you're stupid.

[quote]you really need to look at your shopping/hoarding issues. That’s not normal. Most people would not want that much stuff.
I don't want that many clothes. My lament is that being in a Northern climate, you have to have so many sets of clothes for each of the seasons and the in-between seasons. You can't wear any of your short sleeved shirts during the winter, for example. Just the difference between wam and cold doubles your need, and then it multiplies from there. You can't wear what you would wear in Autumn during the Spring, even if the temperature were the same. I tell my relatives who live in a warm climate that they are lucky not to need so many sets of clothes plus different weight of coats and jackets.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | February 20, 2019 2:15 AM |
I have 3 closets in 440 square feet. Plus 2 large sets of drawers - stores all I need. Winter is really 4-4 sweaters, some thin long sleeve shirts and 2-3 jackets. Which is 1/2 closet. (Though 10 foot ceilings)

Toronto has become so ridiculously expensive. It's unaffordable.
And it's become such a horrible city. Nasty people, unfriendly, lots of rage.

I'm not sure what happened to Toronto. When I first moved here in 2001, it was very affordable. It seems in the last 5 years, the prices have just increased heavily.
