Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors

I heard the actual song for the first time today. And I'm drunk and I bawled like a baby on a plane. Is this song autobiographical?

Yes, watch the movie and she makes it clear that it was about a coat her mother made for her.

There's a moovie? Oh Jesus. Is it sad?

by Anonymousreply 2February 11, 2019 1:42 AM

There is Coat of Many Colors and a sequel Christmas of Many Colors, they aren't exactly sad, they are based on Dolly's childhood, and very much has a Little House/ Waltons feel to it, and were huge hits for tv-movies. I'm kind of surprised they didn't make it into a series, since there isn't many family friendly tv-shows on the air today.

The original song, for reference.

Did you watch CBS This Morning too, today?

Yes, "Coat of Many Colors" is autobiographical. I love that song and have shed a tear listening to it.

Some are preachers, some are gay

Some are addicts, drunks and strays

But not a one is turned away, when it's family

Some are lucky, others ain't

Some are fighters, others faint

Winners, losers, sinners, saints, it's all family
