If anyone has been placing money on Olivia De Havilland or Valerie Harper, for the last decade they have lost alot of money.

I'm beginning to think Olivia De Havilland is going to hang around until the Centennial of GWTW, she'll only be 123.

by Anonymousreply 62January 9, 2019 1:37 AM

r62 Losing her courtcase might actually negatively affect her will to live?

by Anonymousreply 63January 9, 2019 1:40 AM

R63 I doubt it, it might just make her more willing to tell her story herself.

by Anonymousreply 64January 9, 2019 1:42 AM

Prince Philip

by Anonymousreply 65January 9, 2019 2:16 AM

R50 sadly that may happen and Iā€™m surprised heā€™s still alive, frankly. He battled kidney cancer about 10 years ago and thatā€™s one of the ā€œbadā€ cancers. Plus he has smoked a ton all of his life.

R51 that one could conceivably happen, too. He does not look well.

by Anonymousreply 66January 9, 2019 2:27 AM

Possibly r64 But I do think it is one of those situations were it could go either way and thus be reasonably argued in either direction.

by Anonymousreply 67January 9, 2019 3:10 AM

R66 That's why I included Finney. He also loves his liquor. One of the greats - hope he goes on and on but it will be a very sad day when he passes.

by Anonymousreply 68January 9, 2019 3:23 AM

R68 Iā€™m pretty sure the last thing he did was that cameo in Skyfall - and that was after a few years absence (I assume because he was ill). So it looks like we wonā€™t get to see him in anything else, sadly. And heā€™s so private and hardly ever gives interviews so itā€™s not like we have any idea what he looks like or what shape heā€™s in now.

A shame he never won an Oscar. He surely deserved at least one.

by Anonymousreply 69January 9, 2019 4:37 AM

R69 He never attended the Oscars all the times he was nominated and I suspect we would turn down an Honorary Oscar. He has apparently turned down a knighthood. He once said that he didn't want to sit through the Oscar Ceremony because you can't drink and smoke and it would be so boring. Absolutely love the guy.

-R68

by Anonymousreply 70January 9, 2019 4:56 AM

R70 I know. He really never gaf but not in an annoying way - he just wanted to be low key and do his own thing. He walked the walk.

Love him too.

by Anonymousreply 100February 6, 2019 11:09 PM

I have Ozzy (misspelled) on my list at R34. He's had recurrent MRSA beginning in last autumn and I suspect his immune system is shot.

Adding on to the ever-growing list, Tom Green looks like death warmed over on Celebrity Big Brother ā€” distended abdomen, puffy face, and cadaverous gray fingenails. He talked about how he stopped drinking in preparation for the show but when he went into more detail, "stopped drinking" meant he cut down to beer and wine. Also, Kato Kaelin made oblique references to fighting a serious illness....so he goes on the list as well.

by Anonymousreply 101February 7, 2019 12:02 AM

Shane MacGowan

Sinead O'Connor

I put them on the list every time we do this. Apparently they are not dead yet.

R209 I found him being so chummy with Shawn Mendes to be a bit odd, but then again I was surprised af that heā€™s good friends with Dave Chapelle. John goes live on Instagram a lot, often late at night or when heā€™s alone in his hotel room after a show, and as successful and wealthy as he is, he seems terribly lonely and prone to overthinking. After the surprise suicides of Avicii and Chester Bennington it occurred to me that I wouldnā€™t be surprised if John went out a similar way.

Yeah, I find it a bit odd, too.

I can understand wanting to be a mentor or a friend, but it almost seems like Mayer has never really grown up. Spending all this time with kids half his age and all this time chatting online is something you're supposed to get away from when you're in your 40's.

Serious question. Any Brits on DL? Please can you tell us what happens when the Queen or Prince Phillip dies? Will it be like Princess Diana, counselors on hand, national week of mourning etc?

Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 281March 24, 2019 2:40 AM

I think we have quite a few Brits on DL, although sadly we don't seem to hear from AYB anymore.

by Anonymousreply 282March 24, 2019 2:47 AM

It wonā€™t be quite like Diana, R281 as that was unexpected and unprecedented, and public grief and press coverage went into overdrive because she was so young and it was so shocking.

But when Elizabeth passes away, it will certainly take over British television and press for several days. In addition to reviewing the Queenā€™s reign and all the changes in British society, there will be lots of analysis about where the monarchy goes from here. It will continue, of course, and Charles will be King (there was never any question that he would be ā€œskippedā€ in favour of William, and his popularity has recovered more recently in any case) but Elizabeth II has been such a huge part of British life and culture for so long and probably saved the monarchy from being done away with during the twentieth century with how she approached the job, it really will be the end of an era and a time for reflection as a nation.

Iā€™m sure scripts for those pieces are already partly written and will also consider how Elizabeth dying might affect those Commonwealth countries who still have the Queen as head of state and various other knock-on effects that might come to pass.

With Phillip it will be top news but much more understated. He is extremely elderly and not the monarch. He will get a level of coverage that befits his role but which will be respectful and not overdone.

by Anonymousreply 285March 24, 2019 3:21 AM

This article goes over it in exhaustive detail:

[quote]On D+1, the day after the Queenā€™s death, the flags will go back up, and at 11am, Charles will be proclaimed king. The Accession Council, which convenes in the red-carpeted EntrĆ©e Room of St Jamesā€™s Palace, long predates parliament. The meeting, of the ā€œLords Spiritual and Temporal of this Realmā€, derives from the Witan, the Anglo-Saxon feudal assembly of more than a thousand years ago. In theory, all 670 current members of the Privy Council, from Jeremy Corbyn to Ezekiel Alebua, the former prime minister of the Solomon Islands, are invited ā€“ but there is space for only 150 or so. In 1952, the Queen was one of two women present at her proclamation.

[quote]The clerk, a senior civil servant named Richard Tilbrook, will read out the formal wording, ā€œWhereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to His Mercy our late Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of Blessed and Glorious memoryā€¦ā€ and Charles will carry out the first official duties of his reign, swearing to protect the Church in Scotland, and speaking of the heavy burden that is now his.

And on and on it goes...

[quote]For people stuck in traffic, or with Heart FM on in the background, there will only be the subtlest of indications, at first, that something is going on. Britainā€™s commercial radio stations have a network of blue ā€œobit lightsā€, which is tested once a week and supposed to light up in the event of a national catastrophe. When the news breaks, these lights will start flashing, to alert DJs to switch to the news in the next few minutes and to play inoffensive music in the meantime. Every station, down to hospital radio, has prepared music lists made up of ā€œMood 2ā€ (sad) or ā€œMood 1ā€ (saddest) songs to reach for in times of sudden mourning. ā€œIf you ever hear Haunted Dancehall (Nursery Remix) by Sabres of Paradise on daytime Radio 1, turn the TV on,ā€ wrote Chris Price, a BBC radio producer, for the Huffington Post in 2011. ā€œSomething terrible has just happened.ā€

by Anonymousreply 399June 20, 2019 4:33 AM

Addressing the subject of her personal fight against the disease ā€“ which has been termed ā€œincurableā€ ā€“ Beth chose to clarify just why she turned down the option of chemotherapy this time around.

ā€œChemotherapy is not my bag people,ā€ she said.. This woman rocks. Best line ever.....Praying for your family, especially the ol Dog because they are the ones who are needing them and will need them... Thia is just heartbreaking.....waiting, waiting.. and watching.

I read somewhere they say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and a second time, when somebody says your name for the last time.ā€.. funny-not-funny, i still say the names of my beloveds, friends/family/dogs almost on a daily basis.....

but that's just me.......actually i bet i am not the only one. Carry On Mrs. Dog. You are loved Beth and are a kick in the pants. Blessings.

Jack Nicholson. Drug inflicted suicide for Joaquin Phoenix or Kit Harington. Maybe Faye Dunaway. Maybe another drug induced suicide for James Franco.

by Anonymousreply 423October 6, 2019 11:22 PM

I'm worried about Angela Lansbury. She hasn't been seen out in public in quite awhile. That's usually a bad sign for someone her age.

I have the same concern for Barbara Walters.

by Anonymousreply 424October 6, 2019 11:24 PM

No! Unless we are surprised, which is no great feat today, the next to go will be Olivia D"Havilland, (105) Kirk Douglas (102?) Within the next 1 or two years max, of course, but counting on the current opioid crisis ala Prince, Petty, Jackson, G Michael, Winehouse, That actor from Glee, and countless other prove the door sadly is wide open and is a long way from being closed.

27 Club candidate Zayn. He turns 27 in January. Huge junkie who has lost his manager and whose career is dead too.
