BREAKING: JANET JACKSON AMONGST NEW ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME 2019 INDUCTEES
by Anonymous | reply 600 | January 1, 2019 9:34 PM |
Well duh...after a certain number of years failing miserably to gain access then they automatically let you in.
Not exactly something to be proud of.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 13, 2018 12:32 PM |
Agreed. It’s a pity induction.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 13, 2018 12:37 PM |
r1 r2 Not true and you know it. Rejected twice so far: Rage Against The Machine. Three times: Rufus and Chaka Khan. Five times: MC5. Eleven times: Chic.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 13, 2018 12:44 PM |
For God's sake, can they PLEASE put Tina Turner in as a solo act before she dies?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 13, 2018 12:46 PM |
I really like this group of inductees; no one is undeserving and many of them are long overdue.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 13, 2018 12:53 PM |
Radiohead is in. I'm good. No feeling about Janet, bad or good. I did learn Again on the piano as a kid.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 13, 2018 12:55 PM |
Janet Jackson but still no Paul Revere & The Raiders who personified American rock & roll in the 1960s ?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 13, 2018 12:56 PM |
The MC5 aren’t in? They were quite influential. This hall of fame is basically useless.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 13, 2018 12:58 PM |
It would've been nice to induct Chaka Khan as a solo or with Rufus.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 13, 2018 1:00 PM |
[quote][R1] [R2] Not true and you know it. .
Wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 13, 2018 1:02 PM |
MC5 should so be in.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 13, 2018 1:05 PM |
As an influential member of the RRHF Jann Wenner has arbitrary rules that apply to different acts. If he doesn't like an act either personally or musically he argues different set of rules to keep them from being nominated or inducted. For instance if a band had studio musicians playing the music in the first album, they shouldn't be nominated even if they were great live and played on all their successive records. But other acts that had professional studio musicians only on their records were inducted. After the 1990s it has become all politics which is why Janet Jackson would get in but many talented acts with numerous chart hits from the 1960s and 1970s have not.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 13, 2018 1:05 PM |
It is a travesty that Stevie got in solo before Tina Turner.
And where is Sonny and Cher?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 13, 2018 1:08 PM |
Jann Wenner is the reason Linda Ronstadt took forever to get in.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 13, 2018 1:11 PM |
Is Connie Francis in?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 13, 2018 1:14 PM |
I'd have put Amy Grant in there before Janet Jackson.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 13, 2018 1:15 PM |
Is Salt-n-Peppa in yet?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 13, 2018 1:15 PM |
When is Debbie Gibson going to be inducted?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 13, 2018 1:16 PM |
They should have put in Alisha. At least nominated her, anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 13, 2018 1:16 PM |

R12 Then that explain why George Michael will not every enter the hall.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 13, 2018 1:21 PM |
Nominating her is probably the only way they could get that blimp to float over the ceremony.

Which is precisely why it took 3 tries many years beyond her initial year of eligibility for her to finally get in. The woman should have BEEN in, and now they’ve finally made it right.
HATERS, have a seat.

why she hasn’t released an album yet? Her new single Made for Now has been out for months and Of course flopped worldwide but we still need a new album from it
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 13, 2018 2:16 PM |
..........
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 13, 2018 2:24 PM |
Madge only got in because she had a new album dropping at the same time and it acted as publicity. It was one of the biggest joke inductions ever.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 13, 2018 2:28 PM |
How did this talentless bloated byproduct of nepotistm and KFC family buckets get in before Martika, Tiffany, Daphne & Celeste?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 13, 2018 2:28 PM |
Diva Brigade:
Now that Janet Jackson and solo Stevie Nicks are finally in the Hall, these are the other key eligible female artists who might have a shot but haven't been nominated or inducted yet. So get cracking and start calling all your favorite inducted rock stars, influential critics and titans of the music business!
Connie Francis, Lesley Gore, The Shangri-Las, Peter, Paul & MARY!, Sonny & CHER, Dionne Warwick, Judy Collins, The Pointer Sisters, Carly Simon, Carole King (as a performer - she's in as a songwriter), Tina Turner (solo, she's in with Ike), Labelle/Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, The Carpenters, Diana Ross (solo), Bette Midler, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Janis Ian, Natalie Cole, the women in Chic, The B-52s, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, The Go-Go's, The Runaways, The Bangles, Cyndi Lauper, Eurythmics, Whitney Houston, Sade, Tracy Chapman, Sinead O'Connor, Melissa Etheridge, Indigo Girls, Mariah Carey, the women in Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Hole, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, TLC, Fugees, Toni Braxton, Tori Amos, The Breeders, Sarah McLachlan, Salt 'n Pepa, Suzanne Vega, Lucinda Williams, and Siouxshe & the Banshees.
I did not include Barbra Streisand because although she's wonderful she would have a less than one-percent chance of ever being nominated.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 13, 2018 2:41 PM |
I'm happy for her. It's been a long road back to grace since Nipplegate. I'm sure the revelation of Moonves' devious ways also played in her favor. Also disgusted Tina Turner hasn't been inducted as a solo performer. And Pat Benatar should've been in by now.

by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 13, 2018 3:34 PM |
It's subjective. In my eyes Janet Jackson is 1986-1994. Everything she did after that was just a rehashing of the same shit with different song titles. She essentially released the same album several times (though each weaker and not as good) many times over.

One of the biggest oversights is Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. Rolling Stone (and Jann) notoriously hates them both, but BAT OUT OF HELL is one of the Top 10 bestselling albums in history, some charts placing it as high as #3, so to not include at least Meat is inexcusable. Plus, Meat had one of the biggest comebacks in rock n roll history with "Anything For Love" going #1 in like 30 countries and winning a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal. I guess we know what "that" is finally, at least.

I’m loving the poetic justice (pun intended) in Janet getting all these accolades while at the same time, the scum who tried to take her down, Les Moonves, is getting his comeuppance as his fall from grace grows worse every week. Karma is real. It’s great seeing Janet finally getting her flowers, with all these music awards from all over the world (Europe, Hong Kong, USA) and now her induction into the Hall is the topper. You go girl!

It was the playing of Janet's latest single, Maid For Now, playing everywhere that really helped get her the induction this year.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | December 14, 2018 12:33 AM |
Janet can't/couldn't sing live to save her life, but THE VELVET ROPE is a masterpiece. Brilliantly produced, exquisite songwriting and totally different from anything out there at the time. I remember the *HUGE* deal it was when it came out, with Virgin Records (RIP) in NYC being deluged with that iconic album art everywhere. So many good songs and an album you want to play all the way through. I also remember there was controversy at the time because it was like exactly 80 minutes, which is the absolute most you can fit on a CD, and there was some factory fuck-up and they had to reprint a huge amount of the CDs because they didn't come out correctly and the disc company only insures discs of 75 mins or less so Virgin had to eat the difference. I'm sure Janbot knows more about that, but I'm glad we got the extra 5 minutes, if only for the atmospheric interludes and the little details that made it so awesome.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | December 14, 2018 12:46 AM |
And did you see that they announced Baja Fresh is going to be a big sponsor of the ceremony??? Give me a break.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | December 14, 2018 1:28 AM |
Joking aside, there is no question that Janet deserves this. She has been a fantastic live performer for most of her career, and very influential to subsequent generations. I think it is clear that "rock n roll" is broad enough to encompass almost all sub-genres of popular music.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | December 14, 2018 1:46 AM |

No, she wasn't. She did the same tour for over 20 years. Inflatable, storybook set. Crying on a stool. Dry humping a guy from the audience. Incredibly lazy performer who never experimented or deviated from the tired choreography.

R109 = Moron.
Janet has been a tireless live performer since first embarking on her debut world tour nearly 30 years ago. Her tours are legendary, and they’re the blueprint for the way the current crop of young pop stars stage their own shows. There are various videos on YouTube which show how everyone from Rihanna to Beyoncé to Britney have mimicked Janet’s shows down to the minutiae.
There are some similar themes that ran through some of her tours, but by and large each tour was majorly different. The VR tour was dark and elegant. RN Live was industrial, sparse and metallic. The janet. Tour was sensual and had that wonderful Antoni Gaudi inspired set. The All For You Tour was spaceous and bright. And the Rock Witchu Tour had a catwalk, featured a “Good Janet vs Evil Janet” film segment throughout, and Janet even performed songs that she’d never performed on tour before, including stuff from her first album. Her latest shows, UNBREAKABLE and STATE OF THE WORLD, did not feature a whimsical act nor did she pick a guy from the audience, and the latter was more serious and political in tone, keeping in step with what’s currently going on in the world. All of her shows also had drastically different and dramatic entrances.
Her choreography is iconic and is what fans want to see. Nobody wants to see new routines to Rhythm Nation or If, which is why those routines largely remain unchanged. And she has switched up the choreography for a lot of her routines over the years (Nasty, Lately, When I Think of You, etc) and she’s constantly changing the arrangements to many of her hits when she performs them on tour.
And why am I explaining any of this to you? Janet’s legacy is sealed. And...
SHE IS BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 111 | December 14, 2018 5:07 AM |
she did deserve, just based upon her discography, up through the Velvet Rope, anyway. Probably even Janbot can't defend her work that wasn't done with JJ/TL.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | December 14, 2018 5:32 AM |
It's cool that Janet got in, she was a real 80's and 90's icon. I do hope Tina Turner gets in next year though. And Cher. They're a lot older and been doing it longer - I don't like how the R&R HOF lets certain people go unnoticed for far too long. Like, either put Chic in or stop nominating them already. It's cruel!
by Anonymous | reply 113 | December 14, 2018 5:39 AM |
Rock With U is one of my favorite Janet dance tracks, and it wasn’t done with JJ/TL. Two snaps up for the gay vibe of the video (she confirmed that it was dedicated to her gay fans). Trans performer Mimi Marks makes a cameo...

Geez I saw Janet this year and she was pathetically bad. She didn't sing. She directed traffic. She turned her back tot he audience constantly to obscure the fact she was lip syncing. She was out of breath a lot and her so called dance moves were like Moose meets Squirrel. She may have had it at one time but she's barely 'there' now.

One doesn’t have to literally be a rock act/band to get into the hall. It would probably be better for it to be called the Music Hall of Fame, but it’s not. How many times do the dullards need to have this explained to them?

HAGdonna got in on the first try because the old guy she begged to sign her while he was on his sick bed is on the committee. It’s certainly not because of any “talent” that she may have, because all she really is is a savvy rip-off artist. Janet’s win is more satisfying because it was a hard-fought victory and the sweet taste of it is magnified that much more by the victory itself and by the fact that her detractors are STEAMING MAD with envy, bitterness and hate. What’s more, while Janet has been riding high all year being awarded left and right for being the icon that she is, two of the men responsible for her blacklisting (TimberWIMP and Moonves) are having...I’ll just say...a LESS THAN stellar year.

by Anonymous | reply 152 | December 14, 2018 11:11 PM |
Janet's career ended the same day as the Superbowl performance. There is no doubt about that now. Sure, the album she was promoting wasn't very good and flopped pretty badly, but that didn't stop All For You from becoming a success earlier in the decade. Still, a nearly 20 year career as an influential hitmaker and dancer is still impressive. Music today is crap anyway. I hardly listen to any new stuff anymore. And yes, The Velvet Rope is widely considered her best album although I prefer Janet.

by Anonymous | reply 159 | December 15, 2018 12:24 AM |
Why the campaigning for George Michael? What exactly did he do to be worthy of induction? He released six albums in total over 32 years (counting Wham!) and only two of them were significant. Madonna had double that amount and about five of them were game-changing and iconic. I'd rather see Mariah get inducted over him for the fact that she's written and produced the majority of her work (she's also written all but one of her 18 #1 hits, 14 of them she's produced or co-produced.) As well as actually having influence on a generation of singers and songwriters.

Well...
[italic]The "Guitar Mix" features Vernon Reid of Living Colour. Reid stated, "'Black Cat' was one of my favorite tracks on Rhythm Nation. I had the song and learned the parts, the structure of it, and just went in and did it. I think we used the second take. I just wanted to get into that arena thing. It's meant to sound really big."
Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead intended to record a version of "Black Cat" with Jackson, but was prohibited. Lemmy stated, "I wanted to do a version of 'Black Cat' with her, but Sony wouldn't let me. You could tell from the video that she was having a good time, that this loud rock music is what she really wanted to be doing. I love that fuckin' song.. Great fuckin' song that but the record company wouldn't let it be possible." Lemmy later revealed Jackson as his most desired collaboration and planned to record a new version with her for his unreleased solo album Lemmy & Friends, saying "I want to get Janet Jackson to do this great single called 'Black Cat'.”
Dave Navarro recorded an additional opening and riffs throughout the version performed on Jackson's Rock Witchu Tour, appearing on screens during the rendition. Navarro previously collaborated with Jackson when remixing her song "What'll I Do" with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Pop/Rock singer Adam Levine once tweeted: “Even for as huge as Janet Jackson is. I stil feel like her records are underrated. #brilliant”. He was also stated that a photograph shot of him while naked with a woman’s hands hiding his genitals from behind was his male version of Janet’s iconic 1993 Rolling Stone cover.[/italic]

Nuno Bettencourt of rock group Extreme:
[italic]I was one of the few rock guitar players that I had known from Boston and the East Coast clubs we played when I was growing up that was obsessed with pop and dance music – and Janet, of course," says Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt. Just before his band would explode with their own 1990 album Pornograffitti, he was brought into the studio to record rhythm guitar for the single version of "Black Cat." Madonna paved the way for fuck all. She was “The other girl—the one who wears wedding gowns and sings about virgins” when she and Cyndi were battling it out on the charts. Janet came into her own as the young woman from the fabulously famous and wealthy first family of music, asserting a sassy, streetwise persona that declared her independence from said family. She was a dance diva of color who showed young girls, particularly young black girls, that they could be assertive without being slutty, and she could dance her ass off while doing it.

If not for Moonves, who was reportedly incensed that Janet never called him and personally apologized about the SB, Janet would have surely been inducted, if not in 2007 (her first year of eligibility) then much sooner than now. Hell, even the Rock Hall CEO went on record saying she should have long been inducted, and each year since her first nomination journalists wrote many articles about how she’d glaringly been overlooked. I prefer a real rock n roll star but Janet just recycle her brother tunes, like the female version, if that is possible, of her brother music. Maybe they need a black artist to pretend they care about them

Janbot -- what is the story with Runaway? Why no version on either spotify or youtube?
by Anonymous | reply 259 | December 16, 2018 6:32 AM |
“Runaway” is a bit of an enigma in that it was a big hit and was the first song by a female artist to debut in the top 10 of the Hot 100, but she didn’t perform it much on tour. Not sure why it’s not on Spotify, but it is on Tidal. I loved the exotic video.

It’s a chain of Mexican fast food restaurants. The Janet-envying DL trolls created a meme associating Janet with the place, stating that she did “commercials” for them and yet are never able to provide any sort of proof to back up their claims. In other words, they hatin’.
And Janet’s getting in the RNR HOF.

R274 when Janet's star started to dim in the 90s she did a series of commercials in California that endorsed a small mexican food chain (at that time) called Baja Fresh. She got a lot of shit for it but I always thought that celebrities did endorsements all the time so I don't see what the big deal was.
Then there was a story of her giving her family Baja Fresh gift cards for the holidays while she was doing this endorsement deal but I have no idea if that ever happened or not.

I said, “Well, there was a time that he had little Emmanuel Lewis, who played Webster.”
“That was just for show, for the cameras,” Katherine said. “Those boys he flies around with ain’t nothing but little Jews.”
The question I desperately wanted to ask but did not was, “Well, would you rather him molest little black boys?"

it shouldn't be hard fought. It should be that you either merit inclusion or you do not. there are so many bands in there that I would deem unworthy that it is not really the honor that it should be. Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers sold a lot of records but contributed very little to the art or culture of rocknroll.

that's weird R328 because the article you keep posting says she gave baja fresh cards to her family in 2003, but she was doing commercials in the 90s? JJ was at her peak for most the 90s so your facts might be a little off. So was her family getting free Baja fresh since the 90s?
I'm also curious as to why you keep posting that article. If it is true (which it isn't, Stacy Brown is a proven liar), would JJ giving her family cards for unlimited food be a bad thing? I don't know what Baja Fresh is, we don't have them in the northeast, but if my sister gave me a card to use whenever i wanted for free, I certainly wouldn't complain. Are you cryptically suggesting that she should somehow support her adult siblings financially?

Some Bey quotes:
“When I was younger, I was in a group called the Smooth Dancers...we did Rhythm Nation, Escapade...we used to win up everything in the competitions because we learned it from Miss Janet.”
“I’m a huge fan of Janet’s, I grew up watching her...”

She's got her alter ego [Sasha Fierce], but Beyoncé the girl, the woman, is very sweet and nice and polite," Nicks gushed. "She's a good role model. She's not skanky. I'm glad we have her." The goddess has spoken. That is that.

[Quote] Stevie Nicks — maybe the only woman who can make Beyoncé seem ordinary — has finally openly doled out praise for the singer in an interview. Queen B might as well hang up her sparkly stage costume and retire now, because there is no higher career summit to which she can ascend. In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Nicks raved about Beyoncé’s levelheadedness and general awesomeness: “Beyoncé’s great. She’s got her alter ego [Sasha Fierce], but Beyoncé the girl, the woman, is very sweet and nice and polite. She’s a good role model. She’s not skanky. I’m glad we have her,” she said. How lucky, because we know what happens when Stevie is not glad to have you. We’re looking at you, Nicki Minaj.

Janet’s RN Tour was the only tour by a female act to land in the top 10 US box office concert grosses for 1990. Madonna and Blonde Ambition were nowhere to be found.
Janet still holds the records for biggest debut world tour and fastest sellout of the Tokyo Dome
The Aloha Stadium in Hawaii had to be fitted with extra seating to accommodate the massive turnout when Janet performed there in 1998 at a stop during her Velvet Rope World Tour
The airing of her 1998 Velvet Rope MSG concert broke ratings records when it aired on HBO. The special also took home an Emmy.
Janet has been playing to sold out crowds in arenas and stadiums on six of the seven continents since 1990. Her legendary tours have been the benchmark for the way current pop stars like Rihanna, Beyonce, Gaga, Katy, Britney, et. al. tour and stage their own shows.
And she is getting inducted into the RNR Hall of Fame in a matter of months.
Stay pressed.

Blond ambition nearly everyone would agree set the standard for female tours. the only reason she didn't make the top ten that year was because she only did maybe 30 some date, the average gross was high.

R446 Jabba, you are so simple. You realize that Janet only played 14 dates (non festival) in 2018. And you are trying to compare that to Katy Perry who played close to 80 shows in 2018 or Beyonce, who had to co-headline with her husband and played close to 50 shows in 2018 ??? Basic math is not your strength Jabba.
by Anonymous | reply 457 | December 22, 2018 11:09 PM |
Madonna got in on the first nomination, this might be one of the reasons why:
Blond Ambition box office figures: No. of shows:
9 in Asia
32 in North America
16 in Europe
57 Total:
US$62.7 million
++++++++
Rhythm Nation:
No. of shows
12 in Japan
9 in Europe
92 in North America
113 in total
Box office: $28.1 million (North America only)

From 1990-2014, Madonna launched 7 tours. Janet launched 6.

To the dipshit at R460, that stat about Janet’s tour being the the only female tour in the top 10 box office gross in the US was for 1990. The year. Not the decade. So yeah, the RN Tour did better here that year than Blonde Ambition. RN 1814 was also the biggest selling album of 1990. How u like dem apples?

Just ike politics all pop careers end in failure (if they live long enough). They might have their crowning moment but they cannot sustain it indefinitely. Rare is she whom can transcend such quotidian mortal setback and obstacle and still be carried aloft purely on the wings of her preeminent cultural achievement even unto the Apotheosis of living LEGEND. Janet Jackson is NO legend.

For the bonehead at R483–
[italic]Pollstar has just compiled the top tours of 1990. The leaders and their gross box office receipts: New Kids on the Block ($74.1 million), Billy Joel ($43 million), Paul McCartney ($37.9 million), Grateful Dead ($29 million), Janet Jackson ($28.1 million), Aerosmith ($27.4 million), MC Hammer ($26.3 million), Mötley Crüe ($24.7 million), Phil Collins ($23.8 million), Eric Clapton ($20.7 million), David Bowie ($17.9 million) and Madonna ($16 million). Morse, Steve (January 4, 1991), "Neil Young has a date at the Garden", The Boston Globe, ISSN 0743-1791[/italic]
These were US figures and Madonna was outside of the top 10. So, to reiterate, JANET JACKSON WAS THE ONLY FEMALE TOURING ACT TO RANK WITHIN THE TOP TEN HIGHEST GROSSING TOURS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR THE YEAR NINETEEN NINETY.
Do you understand the words coming from my keyboard? Maybe sign language is in order? Braille?

[quote]But what has she done for us lately....like within the last 28 years
What has she done in the last 28 years? Let’s see. She’s...
Sold millions of albums
Racked up 8 of her 10 Hot 100 #1s and dozens of R&B, Dance and AC #1s
Won several Grammys, MTV Awards and a slew of other awards, both domestically and internationally
Nabbed an Academy Award nomination
Signed two of the biggest record deals in history in one decade
Created a slew of innovative and iconic music videos that have been emulated by generations of pop stars to come after her
Starred in several films
Penned a NY Times #1 Bestseller
Released 7 of her 11 studio albums, 5 of which debuted at #1, which in total make her the one of one three artists and the ONLY black artist to have a #1 album each of the last 4 decades
Set many Billboard chart records, some of which took over a decade for artists like Shania Twain and Lady Gaga to match, and others which still have not been matched (seven Top 5 singles from one album, three #1s from one album in three separate calendar years...)
Became the first artist to have a Hot 100 #1 single in the ‘80s, the ‘90s and the 2000s when her single “Doesn’t Really Matter” topped the charts in August of 2000
Became the first woman to have five back to back #1 albums on the Billboard 200
Became the first woman to debut an album at #1 during the SoundScan era
Became the first woman to debut a single in the top 10 of the Hot 100 (1995’s “Runaway”)
Started a feminist movement in the last presidential election with her pop culturally-significant song “Nasty” without even having a hand in it
Toured six of the seven continents, performing before millions of fans in arenas and stadiums the world over
Made the top five list of [italic]Songs Included on My IPod/IPad/what-have-you[/italic] of several other celebrities, including icon Stevie Nicks (Stevie recently revealed that she loves “That’s the Way Love Goes” and “Go Deep”) and lesser, Madonna, who once included Janet’s “Feedback” on her Top Five Songs list and said, “This is a great song to dance to.”
Continued to inspire the children (see Beyonce, Rihanna, Britney, Ciara, Gaga, Katy, Kelly Rowland, Mya, Jennifer Lopez, Aaliyah, Teyana Taylor, etc.)
And...
(Drumroll, please...)
SHE IS BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME

[quote]In a fair world, Janet Jackson would be deleted from the Hall of Fame. Her smear campaign against Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and Les Moonves (even though he smeared himself much worse) was not only unethical, but shouldn’t be rewarded. If Jackson still gets inducted on March 29, 2019, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will officially become a joke (not that it hasn’t already).

R522, so now Stevie also cheated to get in as well as Janet?
That's bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | December 31, 2018 12:32 PM |
Stevie had the votes. Janet didn't.

R522 LOL Janet snatches defeat outta the Jawa of (token) victory!
Actually, not so LOL. It’s fucking scandalous and infuriating that Kraftwerk—one of THE most important and influential music and technology game changers of the second half of the 20th century; partially responsible for the sound of HIP HOP—got displaced by this cultural non-entity pop-puppet product of nepotism and producering talent. Fuck that talentless, zero vocal ability bitch

by Anonymous | reply 528 | December 31, 2018 12:34 PM |
Not everyone who makes the top five gets in. It’s usually only the top two in the fan vote who definitively get in. In her first year of nomination, Janet was #1 in the fan votes for at least two days before bots took over for some of the hard rock acts, which is why they changed the voting process the following year. Anyhow, the fan voting only counts for 1% of the tallies, anyway, and is really only there for bragging rights of the artists who get to #1. It is ultimately the committee who decides who gets in. This bullshit story is nothing more than a bunch of made up hooey, fabricated because some asswipe who wanted to see Janet denied a third time is salty because Janet is finally getting in (when she should have BEEN in). And to the poster upthread, you can take this shitstained fake story and ram it up your ass.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | December 31, 2018 12:44 PM |
😂 at all these mad queens pissed that the Queen is finally getting her just due.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | December 31, 2018 12:46 PM |
A smear campaign? LMFAO! As if. Justin and Madonna have done plenty within the last decade alone to be their own worst smear campaigns. With Madonna’s constant public sniping at Gaga, and Justin’s long list of douchebaggery a well known thing, no “smear campaign” against them would have benefited Janet getting in to the Hall if the committee didn’t want her in there. If I were Janet, I would actually be flattered that someone would go so far as to make up such utter bullshit out of envy.

It’s great that Janet was chosen on the 30th anniversary of Rhythm Nation 1814, an album that is still topical and relevant all these years later. The Rock Hall finally got it right.
by Anonymous | reply 536 | December 31, 2018 1:07 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 537 | December 31, 2018 4:34 PM |
. . .Rhythm Nation 1814, an album that is still topical and relevant all these years later to one demented and distressed Datalounge poster who hasn't realized yet that the world moved on and left Janet Jackson behind on Nose #3.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | December 31, 2018 6:12 PM |
I’m worried about the logistics. I mean it’s just been Christmas... they might only be able to induct her top half through the door to receive the award
by Anonymous | reply 539 | December 31, 2018 6:23 PM |
Kudos. R539! That's why we call her Jabba Jackson!

Rhythm Nation 1814, an album whose topics of social injustice, racism, homelessness, mass shootings, teen suicide and illiteracy STILL dominate headlines today.

R529 " In her first year of nomination, Janet was #1 in the fan votes for at least two days before bots took over for some of the hard rock acts, which is why they changed the voting process the following year."
After her first nom, Janet was in the lead less than 24 hours while the numbers were still tiny. After they fixed the alleged bot problem that you claim was the cause of her losing that lead lead, the next time she was nominated, she actually did WORSE in the poll. Just like this year despite the hoopla and push, she only came in 6th.
JanBot already knows this, because it came up in another thread when JanBot tried to spread this lie. JanBot can't not keep lying though.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | December 31, 2018 7:15 PM |
The following year, after they "fixed" the problem, Janet didn't even make the top 10 in the fan vote.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | December 31, 2018 7:21 PM |
And you said all that to say...?
Janet Jackson is getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She will be inducted in a few short months. This is a fact that you and every other hater is just going to have to learn to accept.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | December 31, 2018 7:42 PM |
Velvet Rope was also ahead of its time in terms of subject matter (the gorgeous “Empty” foresaw Internet relationships and infatuation/obsession before it became a thing years later with things like cat fishing and online dating) and was definitely the blueprint for R&B albums with a futuristic flavor and dark subject matter that would later be released by artist like Solange, FKA Twigs, Beyonce, etc.

by Anonymous | reply 546 | December 31, 2018 8:02 PM |
'Velvet Rope' also presaged straight women pretending to be bisexual merely to get attention.
Or did Janet copy that from Madonna, who already went down the fake "bisexual" route?
by Anonymous | reply 547 | December 31, 2018 8:14 PM |
Getting into Hall is not a “win” in the literal sense. You are chosen. And it’s Janet’s time. #MadeForNow.

R544 "And you said all that to say...?"

JanBot. Always. Lies.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | December 31, 2018 8:24 PM |
Janet was very fortunate radio played her so much so she was able to grab all those top 5s. Back then, it counted for 50% of the chart points.
by Anonymous | reply 550 | December 31, 2018 8:28 PM |
Janet, like her contemporaries, got her chart busting hits when it wasn’t so easy for an artist to hit #1 or top 10. That was when you physically had to go out and buy a record, and you couldn’t just purchase one with a tap of a keyboard. These kids today (the artists) have it easy.

Janet is getting into the RNR HOF in three months. She is being inducted because it is her time, and she was one of the chosen.

Ten years of getting in on her first nom.
Madonna got in first.
Ten years of being in when Janet wasn't.
Madonna got in first.
Madonna will always have gotten in first.
Madonna got in first.
No amount of empty QUEEN proclamations or 40 year old gifs or Boniva references will ever change that fact.
Madonna got in first.
But, envious bitter haters gotta hate.
Madonna got in first.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | January 1, 2019 2:23 AM |
Didn't they have to induct Jane this year because she had maxed out her number of losses?
by Anonymous | reply 566 | January 1, 2019 2:27 AM |
Madonna got in on her first try because the old man she badgered into signing her is on the committee. If not for Les Moonves, Janet would have gotten in in 2007.
As such, Janet IS getting in this time. Third time’s the charm. And she IS getting in.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | January 1, 2019 3:02 AM |
I’m curious as to what the exact number will be of the Janet-hating DL queens who will be hurling themselves off of balconies and ledges when the ceremony comes ‘round in March.

Oh, puhleeze. Seeing mediocrity rewarded is hardly a reason to commit suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | January 1, 2019 3:11 AM |
Explain to me, please, how Les Moonves, a president of just one network, somehow suppressed Janet Jackson's career. Honey. if anyone had any interest in her, the other, COMPETING networks would have grabbed her and supported her and given her exposure not requiring the flash of a sad titty. And claiming Moonves somehow kept her out of the RRHOF is excuses. And stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | January 1, 2019 3:14 AM |
Why should I explain it to you? It is all out there for you, dear. Moonves was president of CBS, of which Viacom is the parent company of. As such, he had a LOT of power. He ordered Viacom-owned MTV and Vh1 to stop playing Janet videos, ordered all Viacom owned radio stations to stop playing her music, dis-invited her from the 2004 Grammys, and years later he threatened that heads would roll when a book deal Janet secures through one of CBS’s subsidiaries went through without him knowing. Hell, he even tried to ruin Howard Stern. He’s a monster, and is getting everything he deserves.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | January 1, 2019 3:24 AM |
Exactly R571. Also explain Moonves' Baja Fresh connection and it makes even more sense.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | January 1, 2019 3:40 AM |
For JABBA/R571:
[quote]The most recent hit job by Resurrect Janet was written by HuffPost, and it claimed that former CBS boss Les Moonves, who allegedly held racial and gender animosity towards the singer, was completely responsible for Janet’s downfall. The article claimed that Moonves had several radio stations, MTV, and other outlets outright ban Janet for years. Most of the media bought this completely pre-written piece (with “editing” by Resurrection Janet) without doing an ounce of research.
[quote]There is a smidgeon of truth to this — Janet’s album Damita Jo, released after the Super Bowl incident, was pretty much banned at MTV and radio stations owned by CBS. This is because CBS lost millions of dollars from the wardrobe malfunction — one which wasn’t planned but could have been avoided had Janet not tried to do something that CBS didn’t approve in rehearsals. Damita Jo still sold over a million copies in the United States — not great, but not a huge flop either.
[quote]As colleagues from MTV have repeatedly told me, there was absolutely no ban on Janet Jackson in 2006 when she released her album 20 Years Old, which was an organic flop. And her 2008 hit “Feedback,” which was played on several CBS radio stations, was in heavy rotation on MTV. But the 2008 album Discipline was a stinker that audiences didn’t connect with. And that’s Janet’s fault — not MTV’s, not Madonna’s, not Justin Timberlake’s, or certainly not the fault of Les Moonves. Like her brother, Janet Jackson blames her failures on everybody but herself.
But then again, JABBA goes ballistic and calls bullshit when confronted with facts. All JABBA's doing now is lying like she did with that RRHOF bot bullshit she spouted a few years back.
And JABBA won't counter these accusations with FACTS.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | January 1, 2019 3:43 AM |
Resurrect Janet? Lol. Of all the bullshit lame-assness. It’s about as true as the Illuminati.

I can't stand the Jabba Accuser Troll, but I decided to do the Troll-dar challenge.
You have to recently go into each thread mentioned after Blocking Janbot. You need to go to all of the threads first before checking your Ignored list.
Well, Janbot DID start the Birdbox thread and is all over the Madonna NYE thread (and hundreds of posts in this one, of course).
So, that claim is true.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | January 1, 2019 7:18 PM |

I did not Troll-dar your posts.
I Blocked one Janbot post and then jumped in the Madonna thread and then the Birdbox thread, and then my Ignored list showed that Janbot is definitely in all three threads.

For somebody to make up such an obvious lie is just sad. It wouldn’t even be worth Janet’s time to sue, it’s just that laughable. Just when you think things can’t more desperate...LMAO.
