Is your home decorated in a masculine or feminine way?

Should a single adult man have lace curtains? Floral arrangements?

by Anonymousreply 48April 22, 2021 1:22 AM

Masculine all the way.

Masculine, my antimacassars are so butch!

femme....but not bone killingly so.

by Anonymousreply 3November 4, 2018 4:50 AM

I was watching an old episode of Sgt Bilko and there was a joke about an antimacassar. I remember as a kid my old relatives had them but you don't see them much these days. At least I don't.

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2021 1:07 AM

I'm a total slob, so yeah, not feminine

by Anonymousreply 5April 20, 2021 1:08 AM

Are mirrored walls masculine? Mirrored sliding closet doors?

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2021 1:10 AM

It’s pretty masc. My designer Hildi has her own sense of style, I love my beach themed living room with real sand

I have a lot of houseplants, and I think they push the barometer over to the femme side. I don't care: I always get compliments when I have people stop by.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2021 1:26 AM

R4 thank god you resurrected this tired old thread for that riveting commentary

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2021 1:29 AM

I would say masculine. I love the ocean/seashore, so my bathroom has an underwater motif, my bedroom has a nautical theme, and the living room/kitchenette are done up with lighthouses.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2021 1:43 AM

Our house is kinda balanced. Masculine art, dark or neutral colors with house plants everywhere and currently, a giant vase of smelly purple lilacs sitting on the kitchen table.

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2021 1:47 AM

Lace curtains? To accumulate dust and particles to give you asthma attack?

by Anonymousreply 12April 20, 2021 1:56 AM

R10...stop it, I'm rolling on the floor!!!

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2021 2:32 AM

Yes, as Emily Litella would have said, we need to bring back antimassacres. Time to stop all those shootings.

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2021 2:40 AM

What would fur be considered?

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2021 2:52 AM

Rabbit or bear?

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2021 3:00 AM

As if a home could be gender-specific!!! I am SO OFFENDED!!!!

I am biting my hankie in rage.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2021 3:14 AM

The fluffy seats are kinda feminine. As is the French inpressionart painting. But otherwise wood and browns and grays.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2021 3:17 AM

[quote] I'm a total slob, so yeah, not feminine

Women can be slobs, too.

Does this colorful, crocheted afghan count as an antimacassar?

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2021 3:25 AM

Yes, but only if you have greasy, pomaded hair.

Priscilla probably scattered those things all over Graceland.

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2021 3:37 AM

I don't want to be labeled as either a pansy or a heterosexual. Labeling is so self-limiting. We are what we do, not what we say we are.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2021 3:40 AM

My abode is a nice blend of masculine and cozy.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2021 3:50 AM

High Femme and unapologetic about it.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2021 4:44 AM

I am a sweat hog so i have a towel as a antimacassar on my favorite chair.

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2021 5:26 AM

I had a friend who would always bring me flowers when she visited but i said please bring me mint cuttings instead. She did. I prefer the mint smell.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2021 5:28 AM

I just bought these two pieces of art at auction. I think they will really bitch up the place.

"Is your home decorated in a masculine or feminine way?"

My apartment didn't have genitalia installed, so...

"Should a single adult man have lace curtains? Floral arrangements?"

Because a single adult man needs to have permission?

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2021 6:13 AM

what's difference when you wear earrings and caftans...

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2021 6:18 AM

It’s.....arty.

Very mid century (but good stuff and real not the faux shit everyone buys now), arty, funky, book filled, and colorful.

So, gay but not that awful kind of gay where it’s all stupid male nudes every where and those schlocky Mermen figures. And, no Funko figures or fan boy shit.

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2021 7:03 AM

I just realized the TV is on my Aunt’s manicure table from circa 1956, so I guess maybe a tad feminine if I’m being honest but it’s a very butch manicure table!!!

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2021 7:07 AM

My furniture, curtains and linens are all coordinated to my large collection of caftans, turbans, and bracelets. Is it fem? Some would say...

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2021 7:35 AM

We have a more or less southwestern look going on, with lots sand colored walls, along with dark and lighter browns. So masculine, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2021 8:17 AM

We're both minimalists, so pretty plain with the odd pop of color as they say.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2021 8:52 AM

I don't really know, it's kinda 1930's arts and craftsish....polished wood floors, original features, I just went with the era the house was built in. It was never a grand house and the furnishings fit the style. I don't think anyone walking in would instantly know the gender of the person who lives here.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2021 10:13 AM

I suppose it would be feminine, but it is more "museum" than F or M. 18th-early 19th century Northern European Folk-art furniture, Medieval - Baroque wood carvings, etc.

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2021 10:36 AM

What does my collection of colorful African violets say?

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2021 11:24 AM

Midcentury + hippie. But probably a bit more color than ‘masculine’ would imply. Could I be *shudder*...gender fluid???

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2021 11:25 AM

My style is High Victorian Maiden Aunt.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2021 11:47 AM

I always have one fresh flower arrangement in my apartment.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2021 12:33 PM

Industrial + mid-century so I guess kinda masc

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2021 12:38 PM

Masculine. I’m very much modern minimalist . Lot of dark brown

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2021 12:43 PM

I generally don't like things stuck on walls. I like the bare look and not into clutter.

by Anonymousreply 43April 21, 2021 2:15 AM

I do too. Minimalist and modern

by Anonymousreply 44April 21, 2021 3:56 AM

My house is very 1970s loft. Exposed brick, large paintings and large windows with lots of houseplants and leather furniture, hardwood floors and open floor plan. It doesn’t feel feminine or masculine- just feels like home. Ironically, the exterior is colonial.

by Anonymousreply 45April 22, 2021 12:10 AM

People should decorate how ever the fuck they want.

by Anonymousreply 46April 22, 2021 12:12 AM

My father was a huge June Allyson fan. He managed to buy one of her movie costumes at the MGM sale - a yellow dress from Good News - and had it on display on a mannequin in his office. He didn't consider this feminine or gay. I had my doubts but I never actually saw him wearing the dress. I have a theory that listening to June Allyson singing "An Easier Way" so often at home might have turned me.

by Anonymousreply 47April 22, 2021 1:18 AM

Ummm
