What do gays have to say about these wonderful and now (oddly) comfort-food fright flicks?
Hi, OP. You're right about them being comfort food. I watched Son of, Ghost of, and House of Frankenstein last night. Tonight's for the Mummy.

The Mummy is my favorite, followed by The Wolfman and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable reboot of Creature From The Black Lagoon starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and a shitload of bad CGI.

but is Dwayne Johnson Black Lagoon enough to play that role, R4?

DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (36) is now well-known for its scary Sapphic content.

'Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein' is my favourite A&C movie. The Library of Congress chose it for preservation.
As for those classic Universal monster movies, it's impossible to beat the two Frankensteins. I also love The Invisible Man.

I always had crushes on the monsters/vampires as a kid, and even today. Is that weird?

What channel? Is TCM showing them now? I love all those movies. Halloween's approaching - shouldn't there be a marathon by now?

I love Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. And although not a universal horror (a Lewton masterpiece instead) Cat People is also a phenomal classic horror film as well.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein was on Svengoolie last Saturday night
After the success of Dracula, Hungarian and Broadway matinee idol Bela Lugosi was originally cast as Frankenstein's Monster. Hours were spent creating his make-up and there was test footage of him in color which is considered lost. Does anyone know why he dropped out?

J'adore "The Old Dark House". One of my favorite films of all times. Amazing cast and a very witty script.
But "Dracula" was a chore to get through. Anytime Bela Lugosi wasn't onscreen (and that happened a lot) the movie was almost unwatchable, thanks to the horrible acting and uninteresting theatrical dialogue. The Spanish-language version that was filmed simultaneously is a bit more entertaining, because at least the subtitles keep you occupied and from falling asleep.

The 1931 Drac is much improved with Phillip Glass's music score (most recent DVD/BR editions have this as a optional sound track feature).
Fun fact: the Spanish language Drac stars Lupita Tovar, mother of Susan "Imitation of Life" Kohner and grandmother of the Weitz brothers. She's attired in very "daring" negligees.
