When I looked at the photo, the first thought was about those huge aristocratic wigs of yore. Which, given her clothing, seems to be what the photographers were going for. Her hair doesn't even look like an "afro", and in any case, black people aren't the only ones who have it - Jews, for example, are known to be capable of growing voluminous, curly hair.
