It's all rather sad. This, no doubt, will be one of the last State Visits over which Queen Elizabeth will preside. Philip was not there. The Queen looks tired. And Camilla does not look all that great herself. Vanity Fair had an article about her in the past year. According to it, Camilla is a woman who does not take herself too seriously. She maintains a regular home to which she retreats from the pomp and circumstance of her life with Charles.

Charles’s face looks almost purple and his hands are swollen like sausages. The Queen is more bent over all the time. And you can count the fat rolls on Theresa May (I counted 4.) Last but not least, Kate is soo thin! That tiara is beautiful though.

Wonder if she has to have a bodyguard wherever she makes these "retreats".

I'd rather like one.

Her Maj hands them out so the ladies don't forget who is really in charge.

R41 The DM article says all the royal women were required to wear them.

It looks ridiculous in my opinion. These people are insufferable.

[quote] It's a straitjacket.

by Anonymousreply 45October 23, 2018 10:37 PM

R12 - all senior royals who are married women (or widowed) wear a tiara at State Dinners. It’s just one of those rules I suppose.

R21 - Camilla is wearing the Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II - it is an honour bestowed by the Sovereign, at her pleasure, on close female family members. Thus Diana received it while Sarah never did. QEII wears the Royal Family Orders of George VI and of George VII - I believe QEII and Princess Alexandra are the last living recipients of those Orders.

by Anonymousreply 46October 23, 2018 11:34 PM

[quote] QEII wears the Royal Family Orders of George VI and of George VII

Did Edward VIII ever hang out any such honors to his family members?

by Anonymousreply 47October 23, 2018 11:45 PM

Hand not hang.

by Anonymousreply 48October 23, 2018 11:45 PM

Edward VIII only fanned her snatch stank through Buckingham Palace for a few months.

by Anonymousreply 49October 24, 2018 12:11 AM

Camilla looks pretty good, like a wax figure.

by Anonymousreply 50October 24, 2018 12:18 AM

R47 - no, EVIII did not give out any Family Orders - in fact I fairly certain he didn’t give out any honours at all. I’d wager this was due to the fact that while he was king, he abdicated before he was crowned. The court would normally be in mourning until the coronation, so no honours for anyone.

by Anonymousreply 51October 24, 2018 1:28 AM

R46 nearly correct - HM wears the family orders of George V and George VI (her grandfather and father). There hasn’t been a George VII yet.

by Anonymousreply 52October 24, 2018 1:48 AM

R52 - Ugh! You are of course correct! I knew it was her grandfather and father’s Orders, I clearly just had a brain fart regarding their regnal numbers. Mea culpa!

^ Must amend my comment above. Princess Alexandra and a few other of the Queen's cousins who are Duchesses or Duchesses by marriage have Elizabeth's Family Order. And a few other deceased royal ladies had it, including Diana, Queen Mary and The Queen Mum.

Megan will have to hold her breath.

by Anonymousreply 55October 24, 2018 3:23 AM

Isn't the guy next to Kate in R54 the guy who did the historical consultant work for Downton?

by Anonymousreply 56October 24, 2018 3:26 AM

Queen Maxima and her brilliant tiara to beat all tiaras were the stars of the show. Honourable mention goes to Maxima's brooch worn at her waist. Woah.
