Rami Malek admits 'tumultuous' Bohemian Rhapsody led to Bryan Singer's firing

Rami Malek has opened up on the ‘tumultuous’ Bohemian Rhapsody set which saw Bryan Singer fired by 20th Century Fox with just two weeks to go.

‘It was a tumultuous set there is no doubt about it, and it came to a place where there was a lapse in time when our director was not present and we needed to find a new director, and I think that says it all,’ admitted Rami to Metro when asked about his breaking point. ‘We were here to honour and celebrate this human being, and no one is getting in the way of that.’

Rami was fucking bizarre on Graeme Norton this week, he is always so stilted and stammery IRL?

by Anonymousreply 1October 21, 2018 9:47 PM

Rami looks like Wells.

by Anonymousreply 2October 21, 2018 9:51 PM

We complained about Bryan Singer for "Freddie's sake." It was all about Freddie and Bryan just didn't have Freddie energy.

by Anonymousreply 3October 21, 2018 9:57 PM

I heard this movie is going to ignore Mercury's homosexuality and AIDS cover-up.

If that's true, this movie's not going to matter.

by Anonymousreply 4October 22, 2018 12:38 AM

R4 Well, more so will ignore that Freddie infected fuck knows how many men after learning he was positive, cause he did not care for others.

by Anonymousreply 5October 22, 2018 1:31 AM

R4 The movie is also ignoring his chest hair

by Anonymousreply 6October 22, 2018 1:38 AM

Didn’t Freddie treat his male lovers like shit? The guy he was with when he died, who took care of him, was left with the same amount of money as the help got ($500,000) while Mary Austin got everything including the house.

by Anonymousreply 7October 22, 2018 1:43 AM

This movie will bomb in the US

by Anonymousreply 8October 22, 2018 1:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 12October 22, 2018 2:13 AM

Singer hasn’t been ostracized the way other male predator directors have been since #metoo started. Why is that?

by Anonymousreply 13October 22, 2018 2:14 AM

Because he hasn't had a metoo moment yet. Unless I missed it no one has come out and said Singer forced them to have sex.

He was ... wow. So, May 1982. I was a pretty young thing. Really! In my petite little way, I had a tight little body and stuff stayed in place, except for my crotch which was a source of perpetual motion as any good gay boys was. I was kind of slutty and was very likely wearing my japanese cotton flight suit: white, red empire sun on the back. Nice trick: under the dance lights, it went see through. I got laid a lot that way.

I was at big dance club in Munich and seriously working on this very good looking boy who looked like a model. I had some good action in those days. There was a commotion behind me and this guy who was somewhat taller than me, but not huge - maybe 5'10"? looks at me says "want to come with us?"

I look at him, realized after a second who it was and he had a crowd of girls and guys with him. He must have been right off the stage because he was wearing the same damn leather pants you've seen him in concert videos, no shirt and while he looked sexy AF - he smelled. Okay, he worked his ass off on stage and Olympia Hall was pretty close by and I could not afford those tickets on my crap salary. But he smelled like he'd put in a full day in a barn.

I said "no thanks". He didn't blink , moved on to the next guy until he got whatever he was looking for and his entourage moved on out of the club.

I didn't get the model either who quickly lost interest and I didn't get laid that night.

by Anonymousreply 23October 22, 2018 2:48 AM

R18 he has. The idea of him living with a little boy makes my skin crawl

by Anonymousreply 24October 22, 2018 2:49 AM

R22 Sorry, what?

by Anonymousreply 25October 22, 2018 2:51 AM

I didn’t know he had a kid either.

I’m not someone who thinks every accuser should automatically be believed but I definitely think Singer has done some horrible things over the years. Hollywood gives these creeps so much power.

by Anonymousreply 26October 22, 2018 2:53 AM

R25 must be senile. Maybe you can tune your wireless into an appropriate station. The internet is clearly not for you.

by Anonymousreply 27October 22, 2018 2:54 AM

R4, what you heard was some shrieking SJWs reacting to the first one-minute trailer. The PR since then has been very gay-inclusive.

I attended a screening and the film is very gay. The entire last third is way gay, and his longtime partner, Jim Hutton (1986 to his death in 1991), is given a nice introduction. Their relationship only started around the Live Aid concert (when the film ends), so it's not a big part of the film, but his realization of being gay is portrayed, albeit a bit melodramatically. His gay manager is portrayed as a villain and seducer.

Malek fails to capture the joy and charisma of Mercury. Gwilym Lee is dead-on as Brian May. The concert scenes are fun, as is the gradual inspiration and creation of the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and its radio-play controversy.

by Anonymousreply 28October 22, 2018 3:08 AM

R28 To they talk about his becoming HIV and infecting half of London? Is that 'included'?

by Anonymousreply 29October 22, 2018 3:11 AM

r29 like, a crop duster, dear?

by Anonymousreply 30October 22, 2018 3:15 AM

Are the buck teeth Rami has to wear really noticeable? I don't want to spend $16 to watch two hours of fake buck teeth.

by Anonymousreply 31October 22, 2018 3:16 AM

R29, you're on a vicious cunty rant, so you don't deserve a reply. But yes, his HIV test and telling the band is moved forward two years for the storyline.... bitch.

The teeth are a bit too much, but Rami's eyes are what's odd. He resembles a gecko. He tried his best. He's better than Sasha Blowhard Cohen would have been.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 32October 22, 2018 3:20 AM

R32 And his refusal to have safe sex, dirty bird, Is that included?

by Anonymousreply 33October 22, 2018 3:24 AM

r32 bitch, stop. Nobody had safe sex until there was an HIV test (the Eliza and Western Blot in 1985). Many didn't bother even then because - what was the point? There wasn't a treatment. Don't rewrite AIDS history to suit a millennial fantasy from a 2018 perspective.

by Anonymousreply 34October 22, 2018 3:28 AM

R33, if you were alive back then, you'd know that 1000s of gay men worldwide were refusing to use condoms, were in denial, or afraid to get tested (which was only available by the mid-1980s). You're only harping on Mercury because he was famous. You're no better than the vulturous British tabloid writers.

If you're too young to have endured the AIDS pandemic, you have no valid opinion on the matter, so STFU. Or hop in a TARDIS, go back in time, and give out a bunch of condoms. Prep-gulping barebacking millenios have no right to criticize.

by Anonymousreply 35October 22, 2018 3:29 AM

[quote]Nobody had safe sex until there was an HIV test (the Eliza and Western Blot in 1985). Many didn't bother even then because - what was the point? There wasn’t a treatment.

This doesn’t make sense. What was the point? The point was so you don’t get AIDS! And that point is especially important since there was no treatment.

by Anonymousreply 36October 22, 2018 1:21 PM

R36 The moment PREP resistance becomes widespread you can discover all this for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 37October 22, 2018 1:38 PM

Anyone afraid what will happen when the HIV meds will stop working bc all these barebacking millenials spread resistant HIV strains around? The fuck-safe-sex generation will learn their lesson too eventually. Have fun while it lasts guys.

by Anonymousreply 38October 22, 2018 2:03 PM

Datalounge hates gay men

by Anonymousreply 39October 22, 2018 2:07 PM

Apparently millennials are not only too stupid to have protected sex, they're too stupid to equatee their own stupidity to the stupidity of prior generations. R36 You know how men your age don't wear conforms because YOLO and " Life is a banquet" ?

Yeah ... That. That's why we didn't wear condoms in the 80s and 90s.

by Anonymousreply 40October 22, 2018 2:11 PM

How the hell could they ignore the fact that he was gay? Didn't he have boyfriends?

by Anonymousreply 41October 22, 2018 2:30 PM

r36 No, silly child. The point was we didn't know who was already infected, how long any of us had to live if we were already infected - and since there were no medications to treat or cure, we figured we were going to drop dead pretty soon after diagnosis.

In those days, since you clearly can't see past your millenial-infused 2018 perpsective of the world, the first symptoms were often the purple blotches we now associate with Kaposi's Sarcoma which was a rare cancer, usually associated with Mediterranean men. Your ignorance of gay history is astonishing and offensive.

by Anonymousreply 42October 22, 2018 2:30 PM

R42 I don't get this. If you did not know you were infected BUT still healthy and you knew Aids was a deadly disease, why not practice safe sex? Just to protect yourself and your partner? At that time people already knew it was a sexually transmitted disease. Why the "we're all fucked anyway" attitude? I mean people still had unprotected sex with their positive partners and knew condoms could potentially safe their lifes. If there was no test and you were still healthy, why not play it safe?

by Anonymousreply 43October 22, 2018 2:52 PM

r42 this is your solipsism moment. You're assuming perfect knowledge at a point in time where there wasn't any. We didn't know who was infected and who wasn't. From 1981 through the late 1980s - men were dying. The test didn't actually tell you anything useful.

Nothing. It just told you that you were going to die. It produced more panic than anything else. So many of us watched our friends drop dead, either form a rapidly progressing disease, crazy ass attempts at using massive loads of antibiotics, homeopathic medication or suicide. You can't imagine how many men got their test results and committed suicide.

We had a government that stonewalled any information about HIV and AIDS and wouldn't even say the name. We had a few very brave people at the CDC who pushed back, got resources and fought the damned republicans in Congress. They coordinated world wide to try anything and everything. It was the French and English in many respect who moved faster because of their more integrated analysis databases and patient records. In the US, each doctor had access to only his or her patient records.

So, let's flip it back. How many millennials continue to borrow money for their student loans vastly beyond what they could ever hope to repay? Why didn't they get jobs? Go to a cheaper school? Perhaps have a less financially reckless plan that didn't destroy their parents and their own financial future.

Oh wait. Solipsism rears its ugly head.

by Anonymousreply 44October 22, 2018 3:06 PM

I think R36’s question was reasonable considering the text he quoted was phrased poorly.

I was a small child during the 80s AIDS crisis but my understanding is in the early days they didn’t know exactly how it was spread or that condoms could help prevent the spread. Even in the 90s, safe sex was a newish thing people didn’t completely get.

These days no one has any excuse. Even with PreP, why risk herpes

by Anonymousreply 45October 22, 2018 3:32 PM

R44 Fact is that time for a lot of young people seems like ancient history and they never experienced that fear and confusion. So if they actually ask questions and try to get informed, take them serious and do not insult them. Try to educate them and explain what it was really like living during that time.

by Anonymousreply 46October 22, 2018 3:47 PM

r24 he doesn't actually live with his kid. The mother and the son have a seperate house in another part of town that they live in.

by Anonymousreply 47October 22, 2018 3:51 PM

I don’t like that Freddy left everything to a woman. And he didn’t do anything for gay rights. Retrospective hero-making. In reality, a decadent and narcisstic - if talented - closet case. Understandable for the time but not worthy of gay worship.

I agree the 80s were a confusing time. Almost fatalistic that you would catch the disease. Yes - the basic knowledge of safe sex was out there but I know I assumed that they just hadn’t figured it out yet. And even when the AIDS test came out, it took a lot of balls to take it. All it did was tell you that you were dying soon. It was in a way easier to be ignorant knowing you might die rather than knowing with certainty that you were going to die soon. If you haven’t been faced with death at 23, you can’t undestand the terror mixed with innate horniness. Sometimes you slipped and did something stupid just because you were young and horny. Instead of getting pregnant, you got a fatal disease.

by Anonymousreply 48October 22, 2018 4:02 PM

Do you guys remember an article about Singer and his gay Hollywood lifestyle? He allegedly used to host big gay parties and had young rent boys waiting in the bedrooms that his guests could fuck. The guy is a fucking creep. I wish I could remember the source. I hope he only has supervised visitation with his kid.

by Anonymousreply 49October 22, 2018 4:03 PM

Not buying Rami as Mercury. Eyes are distracting. Team Sacha

by Anonymousreply 50October 22, 2018 4:08 PM

I think Sasha would have been better too. I don’t have the Freddi obsession so I’ll wait til this is on video

by Anonymousreply 51October 22, 2018 4:20 PM

I feel sorry for Singer's kid when he finds out daddy is a pervert and mommy was just a gold digging womb for hire.

by Anonymousreply 52October 22, 2018 4:36 PM

"Solipsism rears its ugly head. "

Don't use big words. It confuses the millennios.

by Anonymousreply 53October 22, 2018 4:41 PM

There is not any proof that Singer likes little boys just unsubstantiated rumors. Michael Egans lawyer went as far as to publicly apologize to Singer because he no longer believed Egan. The only people pushing this are fraus who think being gay is “icky” and basically the same as pedophelia.

by Anonymousreply 54October 22, 2018 4:45 PM

Sorry but a man in his 40's having parties where he and his aged buddies fuck barely legal teens is the definition of "icky" R54.

by Anonymousreply 55October 22, 2018 4:48 PM

I’ve seen pics of the guys Singers accusers are saying are “teens” and they sure don’t look like it to me.

And People only have a problem if a gay guy does it. I haven’t seen any of the fraus refer to Dane Cook as a pedophile and try to ruin his career over his 18 year old girlfriend.

by Anonymousreply 56October 22, 2018 4:52 PM

Singer isn't "dating" 18-year-olds R56, he's accused giving them drugs and movie roles to convince them to him along with his equally gross buddy Roland Emmerich.

by Anonymousreply 57October 22, 2018 5:08 PM

That should read "to fuck him".

by Anonymousreply 58October 22, 2018 5:09 PM

R57, no proof whatsoever. Fraus believe this because it confirms everything they secretly think about gay males. What movie roles is he alleged to have given in exchange for sex with 18 year olds?

by Anonymousreply 59October 22, 2018 5:30 PM

R52 actually they had been friends since both of them were young college kids in LA.

by Anonymousreply 60October 22, 2018 5:35 PM

I worked on one of his movies. I have no trouble believing just about anything of him. Coke crazed sleaze of the worst degree. Unprofessional and entirely led by his cock. Mostly in the direction of twinky teens.

by Anonymousreply 61October 22, 2018 6:41 PM

There's a world of difference between "asking a question" and argumentation from a position of current perspective. This is a recurring theme with the millennials. It's not like this is new ground or which hasn't been covered in every AIDS documentary since the crisis broke out. Even Shilt's flawed works covered the same elements. So, none of this is new.

If it's new to them, it's because they only talk to each other and don't review any source material relative to the actual time period. That's perpetuating ignorance and it shouldn't be indulged.

"I speak severely to my boy I beat him when he sneezes For he can thoroughly enjoy The pepper when he pleases"

r53 Je m'excuse

by Anonymousreply 63October 22, 2018 6:50 PM

Get off your high horse R62. It's a new generation. If it doesn't personally affect them or they can't google your "source material" on their smartphones in 30 sec, they don't give a fuck.

by Anonymousreply 64October 22, 2018 6:58 PM

r64 oh clearly, they don't. But they do love to *lecture*. It's just like the 1960s when my grandmother was endlessly lecturing me about the Communists and the Socialists and the Catholics. Millennials are the same way. She looked like Thelma Harper, and they pretty much sound like her.

by Anonymousreply 65October 22, 2018 7:17 PM

R33 here. Think some of you purposely are misreading me so you can play the surviving widow scene. My point was Freddy continued and insisted on not using comdoms AFTER we knew condoms would be safe. R34 r35 I am not young I am 53. No at the time here in NZ people did not get ridiculous and fuck with abandon and care not at all. But you both have your narrative you want to protect. But those not in American had quite different experiences of the plague years that did not involve infecting others purposely

by Anonymousreply 66October 22, 2018 8:25 PM

R67 he made the choice to knowingly infect men. He has no legacy except he was vile trash

by Anonymousreply 68October 22, 2018 9:15 PM

R68, not accurate. I believe his partner, Jim Hutton, whom he met in 1985 or 86, said that Mercury practiced safe sex once he knew (or suspected, I'm not sure which, though it's an important distinction) that he was HIV positive. The New Zealand tour you have referenced a few times was in early 1985; he was diagnosed in early 1987. I don't think he was sleeping with anyone outside the household at that point. He was certainly reckless with other people's safety but didn't infect anyone deliberately. He did infect Hutton, sadly. He was able to get treatment and avoided contracting AIDS but died in 2010 of lung cancer.

by Anonymousreply 69October 22, 2018 9:53 PM

I've never seen anything to indicate that he suspected he had contracted HIV any earlier than 1986, incidentally.

by Anonymousreply 70October 22, 2018 9:56 PM

R69 yes Hutton would say that. Maybe as the other members of Queen talk about him refusing to use condoms you need to tell them to hush. Never mentioned there tour to nz had no idea they came. Freddy infected fuck knows how many men That is a fact To minimimize it is grotesque. He was totally human and made fucking awful choices. Let's just be honest unlike him

by Anonymousreply 71October 22, 2018 10:39 PM

R71, can you give an example of the members of Queen saying that? I don't doubt what you say, but I'm interested as I've never seen it before.

It's not just young people. I'm 41 and I was a child during the peak years of the AIDS crisis in the 80s, and can only vaguely remember it.

by Anonymousreply 76October 22, 2018 11:51 PM

R43 "If there was no test and you were still healthy, why not play it safe?"

Many of us who were did. Doing so kept a lot of people alive long enough to benefit from the arrival of effective meds in the mid-90's and many of them are still alive today as a result. It kept many more healthy and uninfected.

Yes, sex feels better without condoms. Living feels better still.

by Anonymousreply 77October 23, 2018 12:00 AM

R73, as I thought, there is no such article. Jim Hutton was not lying and the members of Queen would never say anything of the kind , even if they knew such a thing, which they didn't. Your lies about dead people and your poisonous agenda are pretty pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 81October 23, 2018 10:41 PM

The article linked in R80 is partially true. There's no mention of Brian May's first wife, only a casual reference by Freddie about Roger's numerous affairs and it comes off as blaming Freddie for being gay.

But it gives Jim Hutton (played by cutiepie Aaron McKuskin) a very friendly and nice brief few moments toward the end. It's very inconsistent, but still entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 87October 24, 2018 6:38 AM

R87 Yes. Same exact thing happened on one of the XMen movies.

by Anonymousreply 88October 24, 2018 6:41 AM

He's dissapear for days then show up too hungover to function.

by Anonymousreply 89October 24, 2018 6:42 AM

So he did this before on a big budget X-Men movie, he obviously has a reputation for being a big fucking creep. Why on earth is anyone still hiring him? There is a shitload of young, talented people in Hollywood who could easily direct this movie and they hire him? His movies are not even that rememberable and he did not win any big awards (or did he?). I will definitely avoid any of his projects, past and future.

by Anonymousreply 90October 24, 2018 11:46 AM

Yes, r87. What r89 posted is true. Singer would get drunk/high and then just not bother to show up to the set because he was non-functional. Of course, the studio was justified in firing the idiot.

by Anonymousreply 91October 24, 2018 11:53 AM

It’s getting very mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

by Anonymousreply 92October 24, 2018 12:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 93October 24, 2018 12:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 94October 24, 2018 12:09 PM
