In interview after interview she keeps absurdly insisting that Halloween and her character, Laurie Strobe, are about deep, monumental issues. Umm, it’s a slasher film, bitch. We only wanna see you run and scream from a knife-wielding maniac. That’s it. There’s nothing important about it. Is she trying to justify her mercenary involvement with the film this way? It’s ridiculous.
Is Jamie Lee Curtis deranged?

I liked the original concept of a young woman triumphing against evil using brains and brawn. So many of the slasher films had females just cowering victims, sitting prey.

Yeah, her character was pretty ground-breaking and she brought a level of tension to the role that seemed completely realistic. I wouldn't call the original a masterpiece, but it's certainly got more going on than the average slasher film of the time.

The original Psycho was more than a slasher film. The original Halloween was terrifying.
Now, is it a deep dive into the human condition - no. But, it certainly brought up a lot of issues with regard to teens, sex, and punishment for sins - past and present.
