Do lions have a time of the month?

by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 21, 2018 3:45 AM |
Guess she stated HER boundaries.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 21, 2018 3:46 AM |
She wouldn't put up with any more lyin'.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 21, 2018 5:08 AM |
I am woman. Hear me roar.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 21, 2018 5:16 AM |
Before he could kill the kids.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 21, 2018 5:36 AM |
He wanted to strain the pasta.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 21, 2018 6:03 AM |
Did he put bread in the fridge?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 21, 2018 6:06 AM |
He was a lyin' cheatah.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 21, 2018 6:57 AM |
I did the same thing to a homosexual

One too many trips around the salad bar, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 21, 2018 2:30 PM |
This is why I always cringe at those videos of humans snuggling up to the lions "who love them" -- they are very dangerous.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 21, 2018 2:39 PM |
He dissed her mother's potato salad -
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 21, 2018 2:43 PM |
R17 is spot on. Wild animals people!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 21, 2018 2:50 PM |
I can't imagine that holding two lions in the small overnight enclosure was such a good idea. The article isn't very informative. How old are the cubs and were any of them housed with them overnight? R6 may have a point.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 21, 2018 2:57 PM |
Did he have another pussy on the side?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 21, 2018 3:01 PM |
He cheated on her while she was pregnant
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 21, 2018 3:05 PM |
He ate the last frozen turkey balls.

Any serious theories as to why this might have happened? He was about to kill their offspring to put her in estrus again?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 22, 2018 5:32 AM |
I went on a safari I think I remember being told that it's the female lions that actually do all the hunting and killing in the wild, they then stand guard at the kill until the male lion has had his fill, then I believe the females have the leftovers, then the cubs get scraps. So if the female lion in this case is hardwired to kill, maybe she was just acting naturally to kill, and the only thing in the compound to kill was the male lion. Just a half-baked theory on my part though.

[quote]"Zoo personnel made every effort to separate the lions, but Zuri held Nyack by the neck until he stopped moving," the zoo said in a statement.
How were the zoo personnel separating these two lions? They were each holding the lions back while they were trying to claw at each other? I can't imagine the zoo keepers being strong enough to hold back a lion.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 23, 2018 1:15 AM |
This African American violence is out of control!! Indiana is close to Chicago. They were probably Chicago lions. Wait, Detroit lions? No, those are the ones I hate for kneeling. These were the real African kind. What's going on in Chicago?! Am I right?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 23, 2018 1:19 AM |
The cubs set it all up to get rid of dad.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 23, 2018 1:19 AM |
I'm killing you now so that i don't have to kill you then!

Another member of #metoo, LOL. It really is a womans world now!

In the wild male lions will kill their cubs in order to force the female to go back into heat so they can breed again. I think it's not unrealistic to think this lioness felt that the male was a danger to her cubs and she dealt with him.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 23, 2018 1:38 AM |
Bitch gives zero fucks!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 23, 2018 1:39 AM |
How would the male lion even know that killing the cubs will force the female to go into heat?

[quote]How would the male lion even know that killing the cubs will force the female to go into heat?
They learn this at the secret Lion Lothario school.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 23, 2018 1:42 AM |
R36, they will kill cubs of unknown parentage, some of which might be theirs, but usually won't kill cubs they know to be theirs.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 23, 2018 1:42 AM |
This little dog isn't going down without a fight.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 23, 2018 1:49 AM |
I'm saddened by this. Nyack went back because he loved her and WOOSH - dead.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 23, 2018 2:00 AM |
Told you I was hard-core.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 23, 2018 2:02 AM |
Nyack was the more passive of the two. He was born in captivity and didn't have the natural aggression of other males.
I guess she was sick of his ass.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 23, 2018 2:05 AM |
She done with him, she trading up!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 23, 2018 2:12 AM |
I was born and raised there, so I get it. Indianapolis can readily make you want to kill someone.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 23, 2018 2:25 AM |
So now she's a single gal with kids living in Indianapolis? Give her a mushroom cut and a sense of sass, and you've got a sitcom!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 23, 2018 2:28 AM |
Holy fuck, those were some good lines. R25, I believe you're correct. I'm sure this has to do with the small enclosure plus what you said. The male naturally wants to fuck again and knows if he kills the cubs she'll go into heat again. In nature, she could have the space to keep him or away, or maybe she sensed he was dangerous. Or, maybe she found out that he was gay.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 23, 2018 2:32 AM |
She was protecting her cubs?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 23, 2018 2:42 AM |
Protecting her cubs? Why? Things usually sort themselves out one way or another.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 23, 2018 2:51 AM |
R50 Leave it to the pros, hun.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 23, 2018 2:54 AM |
[quote] How would the male lion even know that killing the cubs will force the female to go into heat?
It's a learned behavior that has been practiced for millennia. Some domesticated tom cat house pets will do the same thing. And many other species will do it. That's why the mothers are so often extra protective of their babies around the fathers.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 24, 2018 1:54 AM |
Learned from what?! YouTube videos?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 24, 2018 1:58 AM |
From their fathers, who learned it from their fathers, and on and on and on. At some point probably thousands of years ago (however long lions have been in existence) a male lion probably killed a cub and then notice the mother went back into heat. He learned and the other male lions around him learned and that started the chain of behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 24, 2018 2:02 AM |
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. A tale passed down from generation to generation?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 24, 2018 2:05 AM |
You don't know much about animals do you?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 24, 2018 2:07 AM |
Isn’t the male bigger and dominant ?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 24, 2018 2:09 AM |
r55 is either trolling or too dumb to learn. Either way, best to ignore it.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 24, 2018 2:10 AM |
And how do feral tomcats who never had a father teach them also know of this trick?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 24, 2018 2:15 AM |
Surely there is a datalounge Lionologist available to us to answer to our confusion!
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 24, 2018 2:25 AM |
It would never happen in the human species.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 24, 2018 6:15 AM |
I doubt it was to protect the cubs since they were his offspring as well. As has been said upthread, in the wild male lions will kill all the cubs when they take over a pride in order to prompt the females back into oestrus so they will mate with the new male/s, who are driven to pass on their genes. I saw a documentary on zebras where a similar thing happened - a female zebra was impregnated by the stallion just before he was deposed by a younger rival. Ten months or so later the foal was born and as soon as the stallion became aware of it, he attacked and killed it despite the mare's attempts to keep him away. As you can imagine, it was all quite unpleasant to watch. From a couple of articles I read on this story, lion experts are basically baffled as to why she would have killed him. They also said that the method she used (clamping her jaws down on his windpipe) is how they kill prey so she was definitely aiming to kill.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 24, 2018 6:54 AM |
Who's the stupid arse in here who has no idea of the things that are imprinted in creatures that are not overtly taught. By "creatures" I include humans, by the way. Nobody taught me how to walk or talk .Nobody imprinted a "gut instinct" in me. Nobody taught me to walk brisker if a male is behind be , "dawdling" at night. In fact, a lot of being a human is having our intelligence educated out of us, including the useful parts and not even for the sake of conformity, but control....which is probably the same thing.
Have any of the zoo experts self reflected on the possibility that caging animals in a geographical environment that is not natural to them may turn an animal "crazy". Self reflection is another instinct that in the name of superiority, humans choose to self educate themselves out of, too.

"Maybe Nyack approached Zuri too aggressively to mate with her one too many times. Maybe Zuri felt threatened, or maybe she was on a contraceptive administered by her keepers (as is common practice in some zoos) and physically could not mate with Nyack."
It was a lioness making sure she would not be a part of #MeToo
