The West 40s gang is back at it!

Panhandling, that is. Kickstarter is up for Episodes 2 AND 3.

Ambitious.

Won't you give 'til it hurts?

Wait, wasn’t the last Kickstarter for a whole season?

by Anonymousreply 1October 19, 2018 12:27 PM

Nope. Just the pilot.

They rented a hustler dressed as a pilot and all took turns with him.

by Anonymousreply 2October 19, 2018 12:31 PM

They want $67K???? In 22 days? MMPH! They're ambitious....

The budget below is for these next two episodes, which will be shot over 9 days in mid-January 2019.

$5,000 Insurance (essential to secure locations, equipment, talent)

$2,000 Casting (we have new roles for the next couple episodes)

$8,000 Locations (it's New York City...need we say more?)

$17,000 Cast and crew (people need to get paid for werq!)

$2,000 Hair/makeup and wardrobe (gurl, people need to look good!)

$4,000 Food/Craft Services (people work hard and need to eat...a lot)

$4,000 Equipment rentals (for fancy cameras, dollys, lights to look fab)

$1,000 Tech/Expendables (drives and other essentials for the shoot)

$4,000 Editing (for renting an edit room for 4-5 weeks)

$4,000 Sound (this is essential to a professional finished product)

$5,000 Music (rights for using 3-4 songs)

$5,000 Post (for color, titles, efx, etc)

$6,000 Kickstarter (yes, they take a fee for all this fundraising)

TOTAL

$67,000

May we presume Netflix passed on their pilot concept?

I notice they have no budget for writers - perhaps that and acting lessons should be line items!

by Anonymousreply 4October 19, 2018 1:05 PM

Teeth whitening = $3,000

by Anonymousreply 5October 19, 2018 1:06 PM

Caftans = $12,000

by Anonymousreply 6October 19, 2018 1:22 PM

I saw the pilot. How can I be polite about this? Um, no.

by Anonymousreply 7October 19, 2018 1:50 PM

Ahhh...I sense another great thread...

by Anonymousreply 8October 19, 2018 3:39 PM

You couldn't even pay me to watch this shit.

by Anonymousreply 9October 19, 2018 3:47 PM

They're 40 plus and they use "words" like "werk" and "gurl" in a kickstart campaign?

by Anonymousreply 10October 19, 2018 3:50 PM

Sad, final days.

by Anonymousreply 11October 19, 2018 3:57 PM

All I remember is one of the actors having too much makeup on and looking like Donald.

by Anonymousreply 12October 19, 2018 5:19 PM

They need to pay US for watching that shitshow.

by Anonymousreply 13October 19, 2018 6:16 PM

It's just sad. They think they're funny and they really aren't.

by Anonymousreply 14October 19, 2018 7:35 PM

I didn't mind the pilot, but I really think they are going overboard with the production. Just bang it out with an iPhone camera like every other YouTube series.

by Anonymousreply 15October 19, 2018 8:00 PM

Yeah, why do they need $4000 for editing and $5000 for post when everyone on YouTube does it for free on iMovie?

by Anonymousreply 16October 20, 2018 3:00 PM

Here's an example of a low budget YouTube series that works fine.

I am so embarrassed for this generation.

by Anonymousreply 18October 20, 2018 10:01 PM

They've received a little over $1650 in five days and have had approx 4 3/4 backers per day. And they are looking for $67,000.

At this rate, they won't make half that, even if they get a ton of coverage in the gay press.

by Anonymousreply 19October 21, 2018 1:52 AM

It's not funny enough to pay for. Wasn't there some parody of it on here? I can't imagine that took more than 10 minutes and $0.00 to produce.

They have a lot of chutzpah to think that they can raise that sort of funding with such a mediocre product and showing that they have. MANY projects executed much better quality and product than what they did with their pilot. I guess you have to believe in yourself.

by Anonymousreply 21October 21, 2018 1:56 AM

If you watch their video, he says "we aren't filming on iPhones - we're doing this for real, and we think we've shown you that we can do far better than an iPhone quality show" or something to that effect.

But the thing is... why? If you're funny, you're funny on an iPhone camera edited in Davinci Resolve (free) ... without gaffers and grips and whatever the hell else you think you need. Makeup, craft services. Gurl, you are not in hollywood. It's some blah-average show. If it had 10 million views, then maybe someone would care. Look at Trixie and Katya, for example. And that could easily (or perhaps was) done on an iphone with free software in the early days.

by Anonymousreply 22October 21, 2018 2:00 AM

R22 has a good point. If something is good, it works. Doesn't matter how its shot, what its about, where it is...if the writing and performances are sharp it works.

Someone started another thread....

Poor Mark Sam. This is not the response he was hoping for when he started this thread. Sorry, gurl, but this is a flop, you grandiose queen.

If they were really smart they would go meta and make a mockumentary about themselves trying to create West 40s and failing. Now that would hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 27October 23, 2018 12:25 PM

He looks pretty good in his speedo.

by Anonymousreply 28October 23, 2018 12:29 PM

What an outrageous failure this thing is, 67K for only two episodes? Wow, the insanity of these guys.

by Anonymousreply 29November 2, 2018 3:53 PM

This show is like recording a Datalounge reunion.

by Anonymousreply 30November 2, 2018 3:58 PM

40s? Please tell me that "40s" refers to where they live, cuz these brokedown bitches ain't seen 40 since 1940.
