WHICH FAMOUS ICONS DEATH, WILL AFFECT YOU MORE ?

I think her majesty. Such a world wide Icon.

by Anonymousreply 64October 24, 2018 1:06 AM

The day Her Majesty dies I will retire to my bed for the mourning duration. It will be a very big deal to me.

by Anonymousreply 1October 17, 2018 3:02 PM

Oprah!!! :-(

by Anonymousreply 2October 17, 2018 3:05 PM

None.

by Anonymousreply 3October 17, 2018 3:06 PM

I do not care that much about any of the listed. I will shed a few tears when Dolly dies. I consider her the Queen of the South.

by Anonymousreply 4October 17, 2018 3:07 PM

I will be distraught when Betty Windsor dies. DISTRAUGHT. But I will also be very very sad when Babs dies. Sad, but less so for Cher. Betty White, I will miss her but no tears.

I still haven't got over Aretha. I doubt I ever will.

by Anonymousreply 5October 17, 2018 3:09 PM

Write-in vote for the death of the possessive apostrophe.

by Anonymousreply 6October 17, 2018 3:17 PM

The apostrophe didn't die in the topic title. It fell off its perch into Death Valley, caught off-guard by the all-caps.

by Anonymousreply 7October 17, 2018 3:20 PM

Yet the OP attempts to make up for it with a superfluous comma.

The ersatz and unpredictable punctuation is like trying to condole DL after Aretha Franklin died by reminding us that Stacey Q still lives.

by Anonymousreply 8October 17, 2018 3:20 PM

BILL TAYLOR’s first DL poll!

by Anonymousreply 9October 17, 2018 3:22 PM

Yes, the passing of The Queen will be momentous, incomparable. Only Churchill's death in modern times had anything like the impact QE II's departure will have.

Diana's death was a profound shock, and she's absolutely part of history, but not the vast slab of history continuity and influence The Queen represents. In her case the phrase 'the end of an era' will be used to its fullest extent.

Despite what continuities can be maintained, it will be a strange new era indeed.

(Footnote I can't help: I just hope she hangs on till a sane US President is in place to attend her funeral.)

by Anonymousreply 10October 17, 2018 3:23 PM

Fuck that dried up old cunt in England who the fuck made it Royal? She is a leech of the highest order.

by Anonymousreply 11October 17, 2018 3:23 PM

Babs is the death I dread most, it may even kill me outright.

by Anonymousreply 12October 17, 2018 3:27 PM

Elton.

by Anonymousreply 13October 17, 2018 3:43 PM

None of the above will warrant anything more than a mild, "That's a shame," response.

by Anonymousreply 14October 17, 2018 3:45 PM

F&F R11. There is no cause for that sort of ugliness. Clearly you have no respect for her. Fine.

Just keep it moving. You don't have to comment on everything you read.

by Anonymousreply 15October 17, 2018 3:48 PM

It 's between QE2 or Betty White. Don't care much for the other 2.

by Anonymousreply 16October 17, 2018 3:51 PM

[quote] Write-in vote for the death of the possessive apostrophe.

I clicked on this thread just to see how many posts it would take for someone to comment on that.

Brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 18October 17, 2018 3:51 PM

Neither do you R15, yet here you are. Fuck that old cunt and her stolen millions. She is the worst of the worst.

by Anonymousreply 19October 17, 2018 3:51 PM

[quote] Yet the OP attempts to make up for it with a superfluous comma.

How about the turkey-like neck or non-existent bosom?

by Anonymousreply 20October 17, 2018 3:53 PM

Cher. The rest can't dance and sing in a leather thong.

by Anonymousreply 21October 17, 2018 3:56 PM

Okay. I will.

I'll miss all of them, but HM's impending exit will really leave me bereft. She's on of my most admired people, ever, and I look to her as an inspiration.

by Anonymousreply 25October 17, 2018 4:27 PM

Her Majesty Elizabeth II Queen of Canada and many other places. For most of my lifetime she's been on our coins, paper money, postage stamps.

by Anonymousreply 26October 17, 2018 6:53 PM

All of them equally. I’ll probably cry. I cried at Michael, Whitney, and Robin Quivers’ battle with cancer.

by Anonymousreply 27October 17, 2018 7:00 PM

Elton John

Stevie Winder

Stevie Nicks

Lindsey Buckingham

Tom Cruise

Janet Jackson

by Anonymousreply 28October 17, 2018 7:04 PM

Stevie Wonder sorry big fingers

by Anonymousreply 29October 17, 2018 7:05 PM

I will be very sad when Michael Caine leaves us. I adore him.

by Anonymousreply 30October 17, 2018 9:56 PM

Is bereft worse than distraught?

by Anonymousreply 31October 17, 2018 9:57 PM

The British Royal Family shouldn’t even exist. Fuck those cunts.

The death that would have me totally wrecked would be Hillary. Honestly, if anything were to happen to her I'd just completely lose it.

by Anonymousreply 34October 17, 2018 10:01 PM

[quote] Yes, the passing of The Queen will be momentous, incomparable. Only Churchill's death in modern times had anything like the impact QE II's departure will have.

How? She's not a leader and she has an instant replacement. Besides, I've heard that there are many anti-monarchists in the UK who will not give a flying f*ck.

by Anonymousreply 35October 17, 2018 10:53 PM

Who are you kidding. The queen's death will be massive politically.

I won't cry, I have no emotional connection to her, but the world will be affected. The commonwealth will probably dissolve for one thing. And the likes of Trump and Putin will invariably say something stupid and scary, not necessarily in that order.

Then out come the leaks. It will cause a national crisis in England, perhaps even leading to the end of the monarchy.

by Anonymousreply 36October 17, 2018 11:07 PM

none of them..........the only one that I wish were still with us was Marilyn Monroe

by Anonymousreply 37October 18, 2018 12:15 AM

The death of the Queen will disrupt the world economy, so it will have the biggest impact everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 38October 18, 2018 12:17 AM

The death of Charles III will disrupt organic farming in Cornwall, so it will have negligible impact elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 39October 18, 2018 12:25 AM

[quote] none of them..........the only one that I wish were still with us was Marilyn Monroe

Yes, I am sure her continuing contributions to world culture at age 92 would be enormous.

by Anonymousreply 40October 18, 2018 12:28 AM

[quote] Yes, I am sure her continuing contributions to world culture at age 92 would be enormous.

92 is too young to be mocked by a derivative, homosexual director who had a middle-aged Welshwoman past her prime play a screen legend.

by Anonymousreply 41October 18, 2018 12:31 AM

Carol Burnett

by Anonymousreply 42October 18, 2018 12:36 AM

Cher is the only one younger than me.

by Anonymousreply 43October 18, 2018 12:42 AM

Where's Madge? She's the only 80s music icon left alive.

by Anonymousreply 44October 18, 2018 12:45 AM

None of them. I have no ill will towards anyone mentioned in OP's poll, a famous person's death is no more or less important than a non-famous person's death. I have friends who get all worked up over celebrity deaths, just don't understand it.

by Anonymousreply 45October 18, 2018 12:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 46October 18, 2018 1:03 AM

Why R27? Did you know them personally?

by Anonymousreply 47October 18, 2018 1:13 AM

R46, ha! No, I'm not acquainted with the Diana screamer, I do have a friend who cried all over my furniture when Patrick Swayze died.

by Anonymousreply 48October 18, 2018 1:30 AM

R48, you should have put him in a corner.

by Anonymousreply 49October 18, 2018 1:30 AM

R49, it was a "her" and she wouldn't budge!

Now, if or when Datalounge snuffs it, I will go into deep mourning & not go into purple for at least ten years

by Anonymousreply 54October 18, 2018 2:09 AM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 55October 22, 2018 5:36 PM

How odd when the poll results are the exact opposite of how I feel.

by Anonymousreply 56October 22, 2018 5:40 PM

I didn’t used to think I will cry when the Queen died but now I do. Canadian here so slightly more of an awareness or attachment to the idea of the crown. I know it’s silly but it was this thing in the background my whole life. When they would tour my mother would take us. Hard to explain but part of the furniture. The death of Queen will be the end of something permanent if distant in my frame of reference. It will be a sad change. As you get older there are things that go that really remind you you’re really going to go too. This will be one of them.

by Anonymousreply 57October 22, 2018 5:43 PM

I will do a Diana scream when Liza kicks it.

by Anonymousreply 58October 22, 2018 7:06 PM

I don't think there's anybody left whose death would affect.

The deaths that have affected me were the deaths of RFK, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Jess Franco, and Lou Reed.

by Anonymousreply 59October 22, 2018 7:11 PM

Justin Bieber

by Anonymousreply 60October 22, 2018 7:12 PM

R57 I agree, as a fellow Canadian. It will be a real shock when the Queen dies as she has been a constant in our lives for so many decades. I won't be crying but I will be feeling the loss and will be a tad disoriented. Yet, given her robust good health she may well outlive me. ( Having been born in 1948 , I'm the same age as Prince Charles).

by Anonymousreply 61October 24, 2018 12:31 AM

Won’t you be excited for new currency and stamps, R61?

by Anonymousreply 62October 24, 2018 12:52 AM

Unless one of them put me in their will, it will have no effect whatsoever...

by Anonymousreply 63October 24, 2018 12:57 AM

MISS Diana Ross
