Unashamed, avid fans of the shitcom Three's Company. They absurdly like to claim it's really high art, one of them recently said Shakespeare would've loved it. Not quite, you just have extremely bad taste and limited intelligence.

People who talk about death and consciousness like they are fucking know it alls. Couching their superstitious wishful thinking with pseudoscientific jargon like “raising one’s frequency” or “life energy” or a “loving universe” and always staking their happiness in their “next life.” Grow up, idiots. God is Santa for adults, and your current miserable life is the only one you will know.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 16, 2018 1:54 AM |
I don't follow astrology, OP but tides are regulated by the Moon and we're chock full of fluid, so it's not a totally outrageous perspective to think the position of large bodies in the universe could influence how we feel and behave.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 16, 2018 3:59 AM |
R10 Astrology is about the position of the planets on a made-up date (the calendar has changed) dictating all your attributes for the rest of your life.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 16, 2018 2:34 PM |
R20 Some people believe it has to do with the "pushes and pulls" of star bodies aligning at certain times and their influence on human bodies and fetal development on Earth, the influence of abundance of certain foods vs. scarcity during certain harvest periods on fetal development and the mother's behavior that impacts fetal development.
I don't agree with all of it, I don't follow it myself but I can understand how some see a sort of logic in the system.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 16, 2018 2:46 PM |
R20 Also, I do think people touting Zodiac "personalities' are selective with who they choose to represent ideal versions of signs.
However, I also think that cultural traditions that influence food consumption can have an impact on fetal development and that could have something to do with how a child thrives or adapts. For instance, at what trimester is a Mother consuming rich Holiday season food and does it have a particular impact on that stage of development?
In what weather is she less likely to eat certain rich foods or even feel like eating at all and during which trimester did this occur? Did she eat a lot of pumpkin, spices, berries, etc?

I don't want to pick on the Atheists specifically but you're expressing disdain for the alleged unoriginal group-think of every religious person from every religion, while most of you are repeating the same phrases to describe your positions, sometimes word for word. Just an observation.
And if y'all want to debate about tides and Moon stuff, bring it. Don't think I won't -- or can't! -- fools. Some people have to learn the hard way. Raw, rammed knowledge. But I don't initiate the unwilling.

by Anonymous | reply 101 | October 17, 2018 8:01 AM |
I can’t believe there’s an arrogant theist here trying to shame atheists.
There is no proof that any gods exist. None.
And I realize the above statement isn’t “original” enough for one or more of you. Did Dawkins already say it? Carlin? Boo hoo. How many different, creative ways do we really need to say it?
When you die, that’s it. You rot. Your brain and your “soul” die with you. There is no “heaven” (think about how childish and absurd the idea of infinite Heaven really is: no, seriously, really think about it).
There is no evidence whatsoever for the claims made by religions. They’re belief systems designed to explain what hadn’t yet been explained by science, and as a method of coping with mortality.
I assure you, I wish there were such a thing as an afterlife. I’m terrified of dying. I’m sad about losing my loved ones while I’m alive. The whole idea of existing and then ceasing to exist in this universe is sad. If there were evidence for the existence of gods or an afterlife, I’d be ecstatic. But there isn’t.
And this doesn’t make me SMUG or “all-knowing” or dull or annoying. I’m just an adult with the capacity for critical thinking.

The burden of proof lies with those who claim the existence of something, not with those disputing the existence.
If I go to the XYZ Company and claim to have a Ph.D. from Harvard, you can best believe they're going to ask for proof.
If my rebuttal is, "prove that I don't", I'm sure they'll be glad to end the discussion right there.

We're surrounded by billions of stars, R115, and it's not a sin to remain in wonder of the mystery that is their existence. I have no idea what makes the world spin and how life got going, despite the latest speculations of science, but I can see the stars, feel the wind, float in the sea, feel uplifted by the songs of frogs and birds, and use what's already here to find the sacred in all life.
No fairy tales necessary, no patriarchal systems supporting such tales, no judgment, no sin.

R119 Newton hangs on my family tree but he has no known descendants. But I know his family story. Very naturally intelligent. Merchant's son, had kind of a chip on his shoulder about that, wanted to impress Aristocrats, society folks. The more he hung out with them, the more he became obsessed with Alchemy (surprise, surprise).
He wasn't a fraud but our tendency to give god-like status to people who find old work (like, archaeological findings, old records) and it fills in missing links to their theories, stumble upon discovering something that already was (nothing is created by us, we just find it or find how to click "pieces" together to build things, we're not God) misses all the messy human motives, politics and influences that lead to discoveries not being as sure and clear-cut as we'd like to find them.
Humans like security, things we can depend on. But our existence is mostly a condition we've found ourselves in that we're trying to understand moment by moment and everything we do, every choice we make every day of our lives is dependent upon a lot of faith and the hope that the information we're referencing is dependable.

R130 the “you must be fun at parties” troll doesn’t know how many parties he’s not invited to because he’s pretty tiring. He never gets invited again as he seems to add nothing to the conversation.

Many times people too stupid to live are happier. They're oblivious to their stupidity, and go thru life in some la la land illusion. They have their religion, and social circle of equally stupid people surrounding them. They never have to ponder the big questions, or attempt to better themselves by being educated or attain material wealth. Their bubble is fine for them, and they have no desire to go outside of it.

[quote] I'll become atheist if you can disprove God exists
I can disprove that God exists in eight words: [bold]young children die of horrible diseases every day[/bold].
Think about it. What kind of "loving" God would allow innocent young children to suffer and die? What possible purpose could that serve?
Epicurious said it best:
[italic]“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”[/italic]
by Anonymous | reply 144 | October 19, 2018 8:18 AM |
I still don't think that proves that God doesn't exist. It just proves that if he does exist he is one very sick fuck. Something that religious people all too conveniently ignore. Why pay homage in terms of prayer, time and money supporting institutions which exalt such a monster?
by Anonymous | reply 145 | October 19, 2018 11:48 AM |
And so you have hit upon why I do not support religions, R145. They have every right to believe in their gods, but not to impose their rituals and traditions upon the rest of us. This is the attitude they consider 'warlike' and oppressive to them.
I know I've had enough and what the fuck do you care what I believe? Leave athiests, agnostics, etc. alone, xtians nutjobs. We don't want what you're selling and wouldn't even think of supporting it with our hard earned cash to push an agenda that wants to rid the world of gay rights and anyone that doesn't LOOK like them.

by Anonymous | reply 150 | October 20, 2018 9:34 AM |
r145, that's not how it works. You're doing it backwards. You have to prove god does exist. Not the other way around.

People who believe Vivien Leigh was a home wrecking cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | October 21, 2018 12:33 AM |
Clearly Man created God and not the other way around. The idea of one God is fairly recent in human history. All ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had multiple gods. They created these gods to explain things they didn't understand which is why they had gods of the sun, water, death, fertility, etc. Once science began to explain what we didn't understand then religion was adapted to the one God theory. If you want to believe God exists then that's your belief but don't shove it down my throat as I don't do the same with my belief.
And if God does exist he clearly has BPD.
