Why Whitney Houston's , I will always love you wasn't nominated for Oscar ?

Isn't it like the most popular song ever ? Not even a nomination ? WTF ?

by Anonymousreply 35December 13, 2018 10:05 PM

Why indeed?

by Anonymousreply 1October 13, 2018 8:37 PM

Because it wasn’t written for that movie. Dolly Parton wrote and recorded it in 1973.

by Anonymousreply 2October 13, 2018 8:39 PM

It is presented to the songwriters who have composed the best original song written specifically for a film. The performers of a song are not credited with the Academy Award unless they contributed either to music, lyrics or both in their own right.

by Anonymousreply 3October 13, 2018 8:40 PM

Wasn’t it already used in “Best Little Whorehouse?”

by Anonymousreply 4October 13, 2018 9:05 PM

R4 it was.

by Anonymousreply 5October 13, 2018 9:08 PM

Like OMG!

by Anonymousreply 6October 13, 2018 9:22 PM

It may not be written for the movie but Whitney Houston's rendition of the song is completely different and was composed exclusively for the movie. Bodyguard, the movie is famous for that song alone. Academy is dumb.

by Anonymousreply 7October 13, 2018 9:32 PM

How can a cover win an Oscar for Best [italic]Original[/italic] Song?

by Anonymousreply 8October 13, 2018 9:34 PM

R7 OP is dumber

by Anonymousreply 9October 13, 2018 9:34 PM

R7 even of they nominated HER version,,Houston still wouldn't of been nominated because she's not the songwriter, the songwriter's would of been nominated

by Anonymousreply 10October 13, 2018 9:34 PM

r8 it is not a cover. Singing same lyrics doesn't make a song cover

by Anonymousreply 11October 13, 2018 9:45 PM
even of they nominated HER version,,Houston still wouldn't of been nominated because she's not the songwriter, the songwriter's would of been nominated

Oh, dear! x10

It's a shit song from an unwatchable movie.

by Anonymousreply 14October 13, 2018 9:53 PM
it is not a cover. Singing same lyrics doesn't make a song cover

It's more than just the lyrics. The melody is the same as well. They may sing it differently, but... well, that's exactly what a fucking cover is. It's like "Hallelujah". Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and Rufus Wainwright all sang the same song in their own ways, but it doesn't make Buckley or Wainwright's take any less of a cover.

by Anonymousreply 15October 13, 2018 9:55 PM

It should be nominated every year! And it should WIN every year too!

by Anonymousreply 16October 13, 2018 10:00 PM

Uh huh. Well, why don’t you go through the list and post all the winners for Best Original Song where the same song was used in multiple movies? Then we’lll take you for your SPECIAL TREAT FANK YOU

by Anonymousreply 17October 13, 2018 10:03 PM

Is this a parody thread or something?

by Anonymousreply 18October 13, 2018 10:07 PM

I think OP wins fool of the months award on DL.

Dear OP, Whitney was a treasure, an exceptional talent, but the song was written by Dolly Parton and Whitney's brilliant version was a cover version of that song.

by Anonymousreply 19October 13, 2018 10:07 PM

Awful song

OP doesn't understand that people cover songs all the time

by Anonymousreply 23October 13, 2018 10:52 PM

OP? Are you even gay?

by Anonymousreply 24October 13, 2018 11:10 PM

Why wasn’t “Into the Groove” nominated? Or

“Live to Tell” or “Crazy For You” or “This Used To Be My Playground”

by Anonymousreply 25October 13, 2018 11:20 PM

Queen of The Night shoulda been nominated too.

by Anonymousreply 26December 13, 2018 6:28 PM
R10 even of they nominated HER version,,Houston still wouldn't of been nominated because she's not the songwriter, the songwriter's would of been nominated

A write-in vote could have overriden that!

by Anonymousreply 27December 13, 2018 6:32 PM

I want to go back in time and get Bobbi K away from Nick Gordon. Why isn't he in a jail cell?

by Anonymousreply 28December 13, 2018 6:35 PM

And I was LOUD, I was LOUD, I was really LOUD, I was LOUD, quite LOUD, quite LOUD, I was LOUD and I was LOUD, and LOUD, painfully LOUD, one dimensionally LOUD, So I was the best, because I was LOUDER, so LOUD, endlessly LOUD...

by Anonymousreply 29December 13, 2018 6:42 PM

I feel your pain, Whitney!

by Anonymousreply 30December 13, 2018 6:48 PM

Singing the same lyrics doesn't make it a cover song?

This is a LOON thread.

by Anonymousreply 31December 13, 2018 6:53 PM

She should have been slapped for ruining Parton's beautiful song with her awful caterwauling.

by Anonymousreply 32December 13, 2018 9:44 PM

[R32]

"I will always love You OOO HOOO YOOOOO YOH DA LAD DI HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Are you referring to that?

by Anonymousreply 33December 13, 2018 9:48 PM

This thread is...a special kind of stupid.

We won't even get into why it was inexplicably bumped after lying dormant for two months.

by Anonymousreply 34December 13, 2018 10:02 PM

OP likes blue
