WORLDWIDE RESPECT OF TRUMP? Holy F., this megalomaniac is delusional.

Maybe R68 just wants to win. We couldn’t win with a woman in 201y, we won’t win with Harris or Warren and Corey Booker is a schmaltzy showboater. Would a white man have more of a chance of winning? In this day & age, yes. Going for a PoC or a woman will just damn us to losing again.
But hey, we’ll lose with integrity! Because losing with integrity has worked out so well for us. We lost 2 SCOTUS seats that should have been ours.
Win first. That’s the most important thing. Then hire an excavating crew to find and undo the damage Trump has done. But win first. No matter what it takes, and if it takes a white guy, then get a white guy. Trying to score brownie points for people who don’t show up to vote half the time is a losing strategy. I say go with Biden. He can always resign due to health considerations after he wins. Get Biden and a much younger VP? That way the VP can take over. But unfortunately, it can’t be a woman or PoC Vp because the GOP will win by screaming about how Biden will res sign and the VP will practice identity politics and be ultra liberal, turning off independent voters. GOp did a good job demonizing Hillary and Obama. America bought it because America has more racists voters than non racists. Notice I said voters. All well & good for millennials to talk about how open & accepting they are, then they don’t show up at the polls or get an absentee ballot at college.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 9, 2018 3:36 PM |

So if a woman didn't win in 2016 that means a woman will never win ever? Nice logic there. And a "PoC" was handily elected in 2008 and then re-elected in 2012.

Departing U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Tuesday morning lauded White House senior adviser Jared Kushner as a "hidden genius" of the Trump administration.

Departing U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Tuesday morning lauded White House senior adviser Jared Kushner as a "hidden genius" of the Trump administration.
Haley made the remark from the Oval Office as she announced her resignation at the end of the year.
"I can’t say enough good things about Jared and Ivanka [Trump]," she said. "Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands."
Haley gave Kushner credit for renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal last week.
"To redo the NAFTA deal the way he did," she said, listing off his accomplishments. "What I’ve done working with him on the Middle East peace plan ... it is so unbelievably well-done."
Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, has been tasked with forming a Middle East peace plan to resolve tensions between Israel and Palestine.
Haley also called Ivanka Trump a "great friend."
"They do a lot of things behind the scenes that I wish more people knew about," she said. "We’re a better country because they’re in this administration."

Ethical violations? Figures.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | October 9, 2018 5:04 PM |
Andrea Mitchell's hour had an interesting discussion. The UN has become less important to the Trump administration. We are pulling out of a lot of special committees, Including the Human Rights Commission, and we have eliminated or cut significantly important funding for refugees and others. So there is a diminution of involvement by the USA in the UN. Bolton's policies in tandem with Trump. So I doubt Ivanka or Jared would do this. And Ivanka has three little kids and just committed to Washington DC. So I don't believe that Ivanka is a viable option. I'd say no to Jared too. He has a position of power now. He is a Special Advisor in the WH. He isn't going to be Haley's successor. The UN Job has been down graded. With the UN, look for someone who would regard this either as a promotion or as some kind of crowning plum to a distinguished career. Costa said that Nikki has a bit of scandal, controversy coming out and it was suggested it could impact the mid terms so she left ahead of them. But she did say she is waiting until the end of the year. So now everyone is asking why now? Ethics violations? Or to change the subject from Kavanaugh. She doesn't get along with Bolton and Trump's visit to the UN made him a laughing stock. According to sources she had no role in preparing him for thevisit.

Haley had an increasingly diminished role as Pompeo filled the Tillerson vacuum, Bolton asserted himself on UN issues, and the US began withdrawing from key UN institutions/programs, chipping away at her clout.
Haley’s influence at UN was blunted by Trump policy decisions that many other nations opposed, including recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, cutting aid to Palestinians and announcing a U.S. withdrawal from the U.N. HR Council. Notably, Haley *supported* those moves.

The idea of Graham wanting Sec'y of State sounds right. It would certainly explain his bizarre behavior last week. He wanted to sound all tough and butch as an audition for Trump for the job.
Plus, he would look exceptionally fetching sitting on the edge of the desk in the oval office, legs crossed at the ankle, a steno pad in one hand, a pencil in the other and his hair in a demure chignon.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | October 9, 2018 5:45 PM |
Pompeo only got State a few months ago so why would Graham think that job is open? He'd have a better shot at AG. Of course he also could be kissing Trump ass so he doesn't get primaried in 2020.

Serious money. There is only one other post suited to her desires. Secretary of Defense. Otherwise she has no interest. If she were to push Pence out for 202, she would preside over the Senate with much more clout than Pence ever had.

Yes, if only Jared wasn't hidden in such obscurity and poverty, with so little means of communication, maybe the world could glimpse just a hint of his genius. Doubtless like so many of his ilk, his benefit to mankind will be grasped only long after his passing.
However, what with geniuses both stable and hidden at work in the WH, we can rest assured the world is in the safest possible hands. To borrow from JFK, it's clearly the greatest concentration of talent under the WH roof since Jefferson dined alone.

I keep tell yuz. Trump has reduced our presence at the United Nations, and she didn't get along with Bolton who is Trump's top dog. Being UN Ambassador would be a step down for Jared & Ivanka who are now Special Advisors working in the White House who can pretty much stick their noses into any issue they want to. And Trump has trust issues. He would never get rid of them. It wouldn't surprise me if some other people in the White House would like to see Jared and Ivanka gone, but the UN would be a step down for them and they will not give up their power in the WH. One theory investigated by CNN is that Haley is massively in debt and needs a higher salary (from the private sector) to cover her mounting debts:
[quote] CNN: "According to Haley's 2018 financial disclosure, she reported a significant number of outstanding debts, including somewhere between $25,000 and $65,000 in credit cards, a mortgage in excess of $1 million and a line of credit between $250,000 and $500,000.
[quote] With one child in college and another headed there in the next few years, Haley could well have been lured by the 7-figure salaries available to someone with a resume like hers in the private sector.
[quote] Over the weekend, Citizens Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a government ethics watchdog, requested an investigation into Haley's acceptance of seven free flights from South Carolina businessmen in 2017.

by Anonymous | reply 198 | October 9, 2018 9:27 PM |
R195, perhaps Haley and her husband were worried that could potentially land them under investigation (for trading political favors for money). Yes, yes, I know it's a regular occurrence in lobby circles - but she was a representative at the UN and the UN might have its own (international) rules against that.
Or perhaps the husband was useless at lobbying / money-making and Haley had to step in herself to fix their mounting debt problem.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | October 9, 2018 9:29 PM |
Whatever the real reason is for Nikki Haley's departure, it must have been the best kept secret in Foggy Bottom. That she publicly offered glowing praise for Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, calling him a “hidden genius,” prompted the fear that Trump might make his son-in-law the new US ambassador to the UN.
Perhaps it's a good exit strategy for Ivanka Trump and her husband, allowing them to return to New York where they feel more at home. But does Kushner believe he's up to the task?

Agreed, R204. I wonder how she managed to rack up such a high level of debt. Mortgage - fine, they wanted a fancy house. But even her credit card debts are through the roof.
It's even more surprising given that, as a gov't employee, many of her expenses are covered anyway (e.g. food while she's on work trips, other complimentary allowances), plus reasonably good benefits.

R209, Haley's credit card debt (not even counting her other debts) was between $25k and $65k. So that's above average and strange (to me at least), especially since she could charge e.g. business lunches, etc to the government expense account or get reimbursed, plus good medical coverage.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | October 9, 2018 10:27 PM |
R213, perhaps there was more to her connection with those 3 businessmen than just free flights?
Her immediate resignation (the very next day after an investigation was requested) may be timed to try to prevent the State Department's investigator general from launching a full, deep investigation into those connections, which might reveal more controversial issues.

Whatever crap Maggie Haberman puts out about this is the backstory that Trump is peddling. I personally dont have a problem with Warren other than she is old. However she is a brittle person in public conversation and I doubt her power to persuade rather irrational, feeling-based voters.

Who ever runs for President for the Dems is going to have to be someone famous. I hate to say this but the country as a whoe has been suckered by the whole celebrity culture thing. We're going to need someone who has charisma. Not saying the potential candidates are not good enough, just that they need to up their game and exploit the "celebrity" factor. For example, I like Congressman Eric Swalwell, I like Senator Chris Coons, I like Congressman Adam Schiff. But they are boring. It's like watching paint dry when they speak. I agree Biden is too old, but a substantial part of his attraction is his charm and his ability to "perform." There is a theatricality to running for office and who ever runs needs to not act like they are in high school debate class, and be all earnest. They need to be president of the fucking Drama club and be able to engage their audiences. YOU can be smart and nerdy, but find your schtick.

Please don't jump down my throat but I think Warren actually does have problems with the Native American thing. It is absolutely a racist attack and complete bullshit and other Native Americans completely get what she is saying. But most voters don't know the story, it can't be explained simply or quickly, and the false perception created by republicans is already sticking in some people's minds. I'm not saying she shouldn't run. I think she'd be a phenomenal president, but that is something we will need to contend with. It will be the new "emails". And the media will give it idiotic breathless coverage

Saw on twitter that some asshole Newspaper, a major news outlet posted a photo of Condoleeza Rice under the caption that "Susan Rice impressed with the enthusiaastic reaction to her comments about possibly running for Senate from Maine. " Sheeeesh!
As for Warren, they're already doping out their strategy to attack her if she runs, just like they are getting ready for Biden. Brad Parscale, Frank Luntz and the hit squad are already on it. Probably started gaming out a strategy and digging for dirt on Bloomberg, too. It doesn't matter. Just remember, no matter who runs they will find something to attack. They will hype and invent a scandal, and make something out of nothing at all. Because it works!!! "E-mails!!!" elicited a pavlovian response from people.. It was ridiculouus. And please let's not forget "Swiftboating."
The attacks will be standard operating procedure. We have seen how they operate. They tell outrageous lies and they twist everything to their advantage. If we haven't yet figured out how to deal with them we don't deserve to win shit. How we deal with it and what kind of relationships the nominees have with the media will be the important thing. I'll tell you one thing: Anyone who comes out in favor of campaign finance reform in any serious way, is going to war with the media. They are the major beneficiaries of the Citizens United decision.

Why isn't the media, and the Democrats really going after trump, with his recently revealed tax fraud... getting far more money from his father, and burying $$$$$ in phony buildings?? That is something huge and needs to be brought out more and investigated. If it were the other way around, you know it be full tilt scandal and coverage. Why is trump getting away with this shit?? This is what I mean, about the Democrats.. no stomach to fight back, and this is not a light weight development. The repubs go after Democrats for every little thing, and amplify it times 1000.

Because no one cares. Deplorables wouldn't care if he killed someone and Republicans just need any imbecile to advance their agenda. After two years of vicious attacks as "fake news," the 'lamestream' media will not be fooled again. No publicity will be given to any Democratic scandals by CNN/ABC/NBC. 2018-2020 is an all-out media assault on Trump and the Republicans.

She’s gearing up for 2024. The money she wants to get is for her presidential campaign. She’s going to be quietly visiting billionaires and multi millionaires, promising them legislation based on how much money they give her. She coukd easily live on her money, but she wants mega bucks. Also, how is her marriage nowadays? We know she was fucking around when she was governor. No doubt she wants money to arrange some NDAs.

From the state.com:
Gov. Nikki Haley said she is doing "my job to uphold the constitution" by opposing a federal lawsuit that seeks to overturn the state's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
"The citizens of South Carolina spoke ... they spoke something that I, too, believe, which is marriage should between a man and a woman," Haley told reporters after speaking at an event sponsored by the S.C. Chamber of Commerce in the Isle of Palms. "I’m going to stand by the people of this state, stand by the constitution, I’m going to support it and fight for it every step of the way."

Didn't she get free housing in NYC for the UN Mission? I thought we had some fancy penthouse apartment for our Ambassador. After all it is an Embassy. No. That would give him opportunity to rally the Deplorables to his defense, and to the polls. Mueller will wait until after midterms.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | October 11, 2018 12:02 PM |
So how does the Mueller report get out. The rules a re that he finishes his investigation and he makes a written report to Rosenstein or the AG if it isn't Sessions. It is then up to the Justice Department to decide whether to make it public. But don't they have to report to Congress too? Reporting to Congress would be best, if that's part of the rules. Because if they refuse to make it public, and they send it to Congress it is bound to leak. That's where all the leaks come from. Congressional staff.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | October 11, 2018 12:14 PM |
I have a bad feeling about the day after the Mid Terms. I feel ike all hell is going to break lose. I feel like Bill Shine, his communications director, Sean Hannity, Rudy and a couple other cronies including JAred, etc. are all strategizing for how they roll out their activities. Some of it also involves McGahn and McConnell, and Ryan. They probably have three scenarios: "1. If we lose both houses, 2. If we lose one house, 3. If the Dems make some gains but we barely hold on to our majorities."
Congress has a playbook all set for the Lame Duck Session, and the White House has their own plan. Mueller and the Democrats have to be ready for it. I wish someone in McGahn's office or at DOJ would leak out their plans.

by Anonymous | reply 281 | October 11, 2018 4:08 PM |
Why would Mueller wait until after the midterms to roll out indictments? He’s a republican. He may want to indict Trumps, but he wants republicans to win. So he might indict before the elections to stimulate the republican voters. Then he can claim he’s not working to help the opposition. “See? I’m not a democrat.”
by Anonymous | reply 282 | October 11, 2018 4:36 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 283 | October 11, 2018 4:48 PM |
It's an open question in this case, though, R283, because any indictments would be against Trump and those in his campaign. Technically, Trump is not up for election this year, so no rule would be broken if Mueller were to issue any additional indictments. Frankly, though, I doubt he will.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | October 11, 2018 4:59 PM |
Rosenstein is the conservative Republican. Friend and supporter of Kavanaugh. I bet he made some promises to Trump in order to not get fired. I've felt like the fix is in the last week or so. Always worried about it, but now it really looks like it. Mueller will put out a hell of a report but he needs to wait till next January. Even then - the Senate will do nothing but shrug. The House will do lots of investigations. - Maybe enough to slow the Trumpsters down. But most of the government institutions will be greatly altered.
I am very disheartened. Don't mean to bring everybody down.
