Here is the list of nominees for induction. Janet fans, rejoice.
Devo, Todd Rungren, Def Leppard, LL Cool J, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music, John Prine, Kraftwerk, MC5, the Cure, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, and The Zombies.

Nice to see The Zombies nominated. I believe this was their first hit in the early/mid-60s. Timeless bit of music.

Actually, 'Time of the Season' was the Zombies last hit and didn't become a hit until after the band had broken up. Awesome tune.

5 or 6, R5.

DEFINITELY: Todd Rungren, Roxy Music, John Prine, Radiohead
MAYBE:Devo, Kraftwerk, the Cure, The Zombies.
NO WAY BABY: Def Leppard, LL Cool J, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, MC5, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

There used to be (maybe still) a rule that after a certain number of nominations (5?), that an artist gets inducted. So if not this year, likely another nomination or 2 will get Janet into the hall.

R12 . Ignorant knave ! The Zombies deserve to be first in line for the superior artistic integrity and for having waited the longest while so many of their inferiors have been inducted. Stand aside and bow your head in shame.

[R13] No that's why Janet's up there. She like that block that keeps others from either getting a nomination or getting voted in. She was up for a nomination twice when Depeche Mode was up for a nomination. Now the Darby had George getting the nomination here her blocking ass is on the list. If she gets in I will be surprise because that would mean that Joe Jackson created two hALL OF fAMERS I don't see that happening'

To be followed by the late-90s stuff: Limp Bizkit, KoRn, Marilyn Manson, Creed, etc.

Janet has only been nominated once before. This is her 2nd (and she still ain't gettin' in.)
I predict: Todd Rundgren, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music, and if they need a black, LL Cool J or Rufus and Chaka Khan.
Chic will never get in. They solved that problem with tossing in Nile Rodgers as a non-performing (i.e. writing and producing) member. And really, it makes sense. Chic would have been nothing without Nile. But then again, there are a lot of doo wop and girl groups in the HoF who would have been nothing without their songwriters and producers.

I can't imagine why Chic is nominated.
Nile Rodgers has had a tremendous influence on a generation of musicians, and I loved Chic's music, but I can't see them as being consider a HOF type of band.
The other issue is that until there's a real reckoning about the deep homophobia and racism behind disco's backlash, there will be no reconciliation or any room to put Chic in a spotlight like that.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 9, 2018 7:02 PM |
deep homophobia and racism I guess that's why they omit George Michael.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 9, 2018 7:44 PM |
I figured with the Kavanaugh hearings and Me Too that they would have put more female artists on the ballot.
An all (or almost all) female ballot would help eliminate the enormous gender gap in the Hall, and it wouldn't be that hard to accomplish with all of the following as deserving nominees:
The Go-Go's, Pat Benatar, Tina Turner as a solo act, The Marvelettes, Mary Wells, Lesley Gore, Carly Simon, Labelle, Carole King (who is only in as a songwriter), The Bangles, Kate Bush, Tracy Chapman, Sinead O'Connor, Eurythmics, B-52s, Dionne Warwick, Melissa Etheridge, Janet Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Nicks as a solo act, Patsy Cline, The Shangri-Las, Diana Ross as a solo act, The Indigo Girls, Peter, Paul & Mary and Sonny & Cher.
No, [R33], Nile Rodgers actually change (d) music. He's already in the Hall, they don't need to also induct the musicians he hired for those CHIC albums.
Bernard Edwards (bass) and Tony Thompson (drums) were one of the best rhythm sections in popular music. They were not musicians for hire, they were Rodgers' collaborators. They both died prematurely. Bernard Edwards had great success as a producer just like Nile Rodgers. CHIC deserves to be in the HOF.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 9, 2018 8:28 PM |
And yet there is still absolutely zero percentage chance that CHIC will be inducted into the Hall this year.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 9, 2018 8:41 PM |
The Go-Go's have been stunt whoring for years to get inducted.
Beauty and the Beat was a great album, but there WERE other all women bands before them, and it was the only album they had that was good AND that they acknowledge (they act as if Talk Show doesn't exist). Not exactly a thing that screams "legacy!"
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 9, 2018 8:45 PM |
There's not a time limit on when a band can get inducted.
In 2018, the Zombies are a non-existent blip on the cultural radar, but they are still in contention for the Hall. There's still plenty of time for the Go-Go's.

Black Cat" is a hard rock song incorporating heavy metal. It also contains elements of dance-rock, punk and arena rock throughout its production "Black Cat" received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, making Jackson the only artist in history to receive Grammy nominations spanning five genres (pop, dance, rock, rap, and R&B). The song also made her the first female artist to have a Grammy nominated number-one hit which they had solely written and produced. It won a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song. Upon reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, it also made Jackson the first solo artist to achieve two number one hits in the nineties

Janet’s decades-long career, chart achievements and stats, industry records set and influence on generations of artists who’ve come after her ALONE are reasons she should have been inducted upon her first nomination, let alone the fact that she wasn’t even nominated in her first eligible year. It’s definitely political.

Time of the Season wasn't the Zombie's first hit, they'd had a few earlier, one fairly big. The Odessey and the Oracle was their attempt at Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and is considered a psychedelic classic now. But the first few singles flopped, they released Time Of the Season as an afterthought, and it became a surprise smash. But the group had already broken up so they couldn't tour to promote the album. They were definitely the equal of the Beatles on Odessey, too bad they broke up before they could put out any more great albums.

Y'all are going on like Stevie Nicks hasn't ever been honored. She's been in with Fleetwood Mac for some 20-odd years. Same with Tina Turner, who got in as part of Ike and Tina Turner. Not saying that neither is worthy on their solo careers but the HoF likes to have a lot of time between multiple inductions on one person, so neither is overdue. Personally, I'd love to see both get in before Miss Whispercoo, nepotism at its best Jackson.

I wish they'd inducted Johnny Winter. He's gone now; they might induct him eventually but I wish he'd been alive to see it. He was a brilliant guitarist and every inch a rock star. Also deserving is Rory Gallagher, another brilliant guitarist. The Rolling Stones wanted him to replace Mick Taylor and when Jimi Hendrix was asked how it felt to be the world's greatest guitarist, he is reported to have said: "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher." That may be an urban legend, but it's indicative of how great a guitarist he was. It's galling that people like them aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame, but mediocrities like Heart and Cheap Trick and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and Billy Joel are in it. And MADONNA is it. If that don't prove it's a crock of shit I don't know what does.

“Why couldn't it stay with actual Rock and Roll bands?”
Are you serious? Or are you making fun of a complaint that people started making in the 80s?
by Anonymous | reply 143 | October 11, 2018 3:53 AM |
The complaint stands. Rock or Rock and Roll, whatever you want to go with, still isn't Janet Jackson. All the early inductees were Rock and Roll. In no way is Janet "Whisper Coo" Rock and or Roll. I don't care if it's an argument since the 80s, but perhaps it is a forgotten complaint that needs to be heard again for a new generation. Going by the logic used by R143, let's not protest or make complaint about racism, because, you know, that argument has been around since the dawn of time.

Joe Walsh doesn't have a peaceful, easy feeling about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, because he says the induction process is unfair and way outta hand.
We got the Eagles' guitarist in NYC and he went off about the Hall being too political and bowing down to corporate sponsors. Joe got remarkably candid when he added ... most artists would change a lot about the whole process, starting with who gets inducted.
Joe, who was inducted with the Eagles in 1998, even said there are many artists already in the Hall who have no business being there. He also has a specific guitar great in mind who deserves to be in, but keeps getting denied.
Shout-out to Link Wray and, if you've never heard of him, Joe's got the song you need to hear.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | October 11, 2018 3:55 PM |
I don't think you have to be a *rock* artist to be in the HoF. Hell, R&B and Soul and Blues influenced some of the greatest musicians in the world. I think it should be about both talent and what the musician brought to the table in terms of advancing music or influencing either other musicians or culture. If it was strictly about that, then Janet would never get in (nor would many other acts). I think nearly all the early female artists who were successful and original and helped break down barriers should be in. Again, that's not Janet. She basically got her career by being related to her much more famous and talented brothers. She has no real vocal ability. She's a songwriter like Elvis Presley was a songwriter. And all her successes were crafted by other people, mainly men. It would be like inducting Paula Abdul or Apollonia. Shit, even Streisand should be in there, and her music is strictly pop. But what a voice. And a skillion times more talented than Janet.
If you're inducting people strictly on the basis of former popularity and sales, then the person upthread is right- The Archies should be in before Janet. Sugar Sugar was a damn good pop single.

Nine Inch Nails
J. Geils Band
New Order
Peter Frampton
Joe Cocker
The Pixies
Gram Parsons
T. Rex
Soundgarden
Big Mama Thornton
Sonic Youth
King Crimson
Alice In Chains

For the dipshit at R144, Aretha and Nina Simone aren’t “Rock” either, yet they are in the Hall. It is not about Rock and Roll as your narrow mind sees it. It is about music as a whole. And, if anything, Rock and Roll in and of itself was created by black artists.
And to you, R148, and your blatant stupidity, may I suggest that you please do a little research about the artist you choose to denigrate before you make such a fool of yourself? Janet Jackson is one of the blueprints of modern pop music as we know it...the mother of all of these kids currently occupying the Top 40, if you will. She has been a part of pop culture since she was a little girl, which is when she started her career, and is still touring to massive crowds, releasing #1 albums and has been a constant, perennial inspiration to virtually every pop and dance/R&B performer to come after her. Who she’s related to is a non-factor. She could not help what her pedigree was. There were many Jackson offspring but, other than Michael, Janet was the only one to achieve massive solo worldwide stardom. That kind of iconery and longevity does not happen just because you happen to be Michael Jackson’s sister. If it did, then we would be celebrating Rebbie and Latoya’s groundbreaking, genre-defining albums right alongside Janet’s Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., The Velvet Rope, etc. Alas, we aren’t, because they don’t have groundbreaking, genre-defining albums. Janet does.
Now, both of you can go fuck off, but be sure to do it while enjoying the sounds of one of Janet’s 10 Hot 100 #1s, one of which was nominated for an Oscar.

Janet Jackson, on what basis? Yes, she was popular but how did she impact music? She is even less vocally talented than Madonna. She got hooked up with Jam and Lewis (who are excellent songwriters and producers) because she was semi-famous. Otherwise there would be no career. She is a good dancer and performer.
I like her music, but Hall of Fame? No.

R156, please elaborate on what genre Rhythm Nation 1814 influenced.
Janet Jackson was not part of pop culture since she was a girl. She had small roles on a couple sitcoms and released two flop albums. She found good producers and started making R&B/pop hits. I was a teenager obsessed with R&B when Janet hit big with Control. Everyone liked it but nobody was astounded by her music. She was just another female performer who danced better than she sang, like Paula Abdul.
please elaborate on what genre Rhythm Nation 1814 influenced.
On a visual aspect alone, there have been a myriad of music videos from artists over the years that have taken a cue from the album. Beyoncé’s “Formation” and “Lemonade” have been cited as being an RN for the new generation, both visually and sonically. Some specifics:
[italic]Upon its 25th anniversary, music critic and scholar Joseph Vogel observed that when viewed "as a complete artistic statement, Rhythm Nation 1814 was a stunning achievement. It married the pleasures of pop with the street energy and edge of hip-hop." Kyle Anderson of Entertainment Weekly asserted the record "has barely aged—it sounds as rich and vital as it did when it was first released, and stylistically as contemporary as anything on the Billboard charts." Anderson also underscores that it pioneered several musical trends, records by pop and R&B artists including Rihanna, Pink, Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Gwen Stefani, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Jhené Aiko, Miguel, Christina Aguilera, FKA Twigs, and Tinashe that have exhibited similarities to the "landmark" album. Its single for "Alright" featuring Heavy D made Jackson the first pop artist to team with a rapper, "setting the trend for future pop and hip-hop collaborations.” Additionally, "Black Cat" set a precedent for female pop stars segueing into glam metal. The album notably influenced Michael Jackson's Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995), the latter of which features the sibling's duet "Scream", produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Its impact also extends to indie and alternative rock music, with School of Seven Bells, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells citing the album as an influence in their work. MTV's Brenna Ehrlich remarked: "From Beyoncé ... to Britney Spears to Robyn to Sleigh Bells, the influence of Jackson's game-changer of a record is still rippling through the radio waves (or SoundCloud waves) today.”[/italic].
by Anonymous | reply 179 | October 12, 2018 6:25 AM |
[italic]Jackson's handwritten lyrics to "Rhythm Nation" have been preserved by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "Women Who Rock" exhibit, which Kathryn Metz describes as "the perfect platform to talk about song structure" for the museum's "Women Who Rock: Songwriting and Point of View" course, in which students analyze music written by female songwriters.[/italic]

Rene was a visual collaborator and co-wrote on Velvet Rope, but even Jimmy Jam has gone on record as saying that he never saw Rene around much with a pen and paper in his hand. Some of Janet’s most popular songs were either written by her or co-written by her, with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis supplying the production. And she has collaborated with other producers as well (Babyface, Kanye, etc). Jimmy and Terry had nothing to do with “Black Cat” for starters.

Carly Simon... "Your So Vain" is one of the iconic pop songs and "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be"t is a work of art.
Leslie Gore. "It's My Party"... again one of the all-time iconic pop songs. "You Don't Own Me" was significant.
Peter Paul & Mary... they introduced Dylan's music to the public. As well as the music of John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Seeger etc. The represent the folk genre just as much as Joan Baez and they deserve recognition.
Pat Boone... he was sort of the Rudy Vallee of the 1950s but he was an early rocker too....and wildly popular.

Janet is one of the most successful female pop acts of the last 30 plus years, is an Oscar nominee, is a perennial how-to example for today’s pop star which is evidenced in their own work, and is currently one of only three acts in music history with a #1 album in each of the last four decades.

Ok, I can see that you’re living in some sort of alternate universe here, which is sad. Or maybe you’re just a millennial, which is even worse.
Janet Jackson still holds the record for most successful debut world tour in history. Her Rhythm Nation World Tour was the biggest tour by a female in 1990 in the states, and together with the massive success of the janet. and Velvet Rope tours, she became the most successful female touring act of the ‘90s.
Britney? You mean Janet’s pupil? The woman who was called Janet Jr. by her peers during her tenure on MMC and who has gone on record numerous times stating that Janet is her major influence? Ms. Spears couldn’t shine Janet’s shoes on a good day.

Others who are worthy of being inducted. Some were very commercially successful, some not:
Dave Edmunds. He only had one hit, a version of "I Hear You Knocking" but he's put out a lot of good music. He's a true rock and roller, a musician's musician.
Moon Martin. He's mainly known for "I Got A Bad Case of Loving You", which was a hit for Robert Palmer, and "Cadillac Walk", which has been covered by a lot of artists. Willie DeVille did a great version of it. But he's a good songwriter, good singer and great live performer.
Robert Palmer. Had an incredible voice.
Willie DeVille. Very talented musician who could do a lot of styles, write great songs and put on a good show.
Three Dog NIght. Fantastic cover band who introduced a wide audience to the songwriting of Randy Newman, Laura Nyro. Hoyt Axton and Paul Williams.
Jim Croce. Put out a string of great pop hits. He had a way with words: "you don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind..."
Melanie. Quirky voice and songwriting, she was also a unique talent. She did a great cover version of Jim Croce's "Lover's Cross."
The Monkees. Great pop band that put out a string of hits that still hold up today.
Gordon LIghtfoot. One of the greatest songwriters around. Bob Dylan is a fan of his.

R250, do you not understand that was actually Aretha's 2nd year of eligibility? When the RRHF opened, Aretha had already been around long enough to qualify.
Now, that's on the RRHF--Aretha absolutely should have been in the first group of inductees.

I think Janet has a decent chance of getting in this time, because she hustled herself a lot of press with only a moderately successful tour and a single with lukewarm reception. What’s hilarious though is if she gets in, JanBot will go absolutely psycho with the posts about how it’s proof Janet is the most important thing EVER, even though Janet’s been eligible for entry as long as Madonna and, well, we all know Madonna got in right away no hesitation.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | October 14, 2018 9:50 PM |
When Janet was first nominated a few years ago, she was in the top spot for a few days before the hardcore rock fans enlisted bots to do their cheating, which is the reason you can only vote once a day now.

HAGdonna was only inducted right away because Jann the Pansy has a thing for her, the old man she got to sign her while he was in the hospital is on the committee and she’s a white woman. Black woman have been notoriously shunned by the Hall for years.

There have been 20 black female acts who have been inducted, including such far off reaches as Mahalia Jackson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Outside of Chaka Khan (and Tina is already in there with Ike), I'd love to hear who's been "notoriously shunned in your opinion, Jabba.

Donna Summer, a woman who should’ve been inducted in her first year of eligibility, had to DIE before they let her in. The fact that they inducted her the year after her death, after many years of passing her over, is telling of how they view black female artists.

R278 Donna had the talent to remain a superstar throughout the 80s and well beyond disco, but made so many terrible career choices, it damaged her legacy. Her incompetence at running her career is big factor to why she remained underrated and overlooked. I think that was a bigger factor than her race.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | October 15, 2018 4:51 PM |
R283 Her voice was and still is severely underrated. What shame she never got to record some serious jazz and the standards.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | October 15, 2018 4:54 PM |
Donna had a voice that could easily fit in many other genres. One of the retro TV stations played one of her appearances on a variety show with her singing gospel and she was amazing in that as well
by Anonymous | reply 285 | October 15, 2018 4:57 PM |
Imagine what Madonna could've done with her voice, or practically anyone else for that matter. Donna got filthy rich and just wanted to be a rich housewife who occasionally tours, the extent of her ambition.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | October 15, 2018 4:58 PM |
It's a crime that Sonny and Cher are not in.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | October 15, 2018 5:01 PM |
Donna never got in pre-death because no matter what her achievements and talents, she was seen by most as a disco singer whose career petered out shortly after disco. Her talents have always been underrated squarely because of the genre where she had her biggest successes. Had she not died, I don't think she'd be in today. There was far too much bias.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | October 15, 2018 5:10 PM |
True 288, but ironically her reputation would be better now if she had stuck to dance music more. Her only 4 post-disco hits were the few occasions she deigned to record commercial dance-pop. If she'd embraced her Queen of Disco title and kept recording great dance-pop, first it would've thrilled her hoards of gay male fans, and boosted her total number of hits potentially enough to double them. Remaining extremely commercial is what would've broken down the bias against her for disco. That's what happened with Madonna, she embraced dance-pop and scored so many hits the critics had to relent and start taking her seriously. And Donna did actually admire Madonna for her career longevity, but didn't take her example, because she didn't enjoy being a superstar, preferring to be a stay-at-home mom.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | October 15, 2018 5:39 PM |
That they let Donna in a year after her death was like a slap in the face. Screw Jann Wenner.

by Anonymous | reply 291 | October 15, 2018 6:34 PM |
[R279] At least Jann Wenner did acknowledge Donna Summer. Although Donna was dead when it happen, she did get into the Hall of Fame. George Michael did not receive such a gustier at all. Those statements about Donna's talent can be applied to George as well except he was a songwriter, producer and arranger. The poor has never been consider a nominee, meanwhile if a Britney Spears who is eligible in 2023 would get in on a first try. While George stay in the not consider important to the music world.

This is Janet's third nomination and she isn't going to get in this time either. She doesn't deserve to be in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because she barely has any talent, she can barely sing, rode the coattails of her infinitely more talented siblings (otherwise she would never have even had a career at all), she lies continually, she's fat and lazy - she can't even finish a concert because she's so fat and lazy and she most certainly hasn't had anything approaching a mainstream career for the last 20 years.

I actually think Janet will get in because she hustled herself a lot of poor victim me press this year. I'm sure the RRHOF would love to cash in on righting poor wronged Janet. But in yet another hilarious example of JanBot trying to sell Janet as the most influential ever and actually making Janet look worse:
In 2015 when Janet was first nominated, the final fan vote tally put Janet in a distant 6th place.
There were lots of complaints about voting bots giving the winner (Chicago) and others unfair advantage, so beginning in 2016 the fan vote rules changed to allow only one vote per user per day. The final fan vote tally that year put Janet... in a distant 11th place.
This year, after lots of positive press and coming off a moderately successful tour and a single that got some attention for a whole weekend, the current standings of the fan vote have Janet in... a distant 6th place.

^Guess again, fuck face.
Janet Jackson is famous because of her discography—a multi-multi-million-selling cavalcade of grooves and hits which includes 11 albums (7 of which were #1s and several which were groundbreaking explorations of personal growth, self-exploration and the fight for social justice) and 10 Hot 100 #1s, her iconic music videos, her influential choreography and style, her legendary concerts which have been mimicked by just about every female pop star of this new generation, and her visionary artistry which yielded (and continues to yield) her many awards and nominations over the years including an Oscar nom, several Grammys and several world icon awards. She was a pop culture staple from the time she appeared on TV as a child portraying an abused little girl and she remains one to this day. With a multifaceted career spanning decades and multiple media outlets including television, music, films and books (a semi-auto-bio went to #1 on The NY Times Bestsellers list) she achieved many industry “firsts” and would go on to sign two of the biggest recording contracts in history TWICE in one decade, achieve and set a litany of music chart records which include being the only artist in history to yield 7 top 5 singles from a single album, the first woman to debut a single in the Hot 100 top 10, the first woman to have a #1 album during the SoundScan era and the first woman to have 5 consecutive Billboard 200 #1 albums. From BlackGlama to performing for the Queen of England, she’s done it all. Her nip slip at the 2004 Super Bowl is the reason YouTube exists. She provided the blueprint to the house that the Britneys, the Rihannas, the Beyonces, The Ciaras and the JLos currently reside in. Her music is still sampled, remade and is cited by all kinds of pop, R&B and rock artists as being influential in their own careers. Music journalists still marvel at how she was able to deftly escape the shadow cast by her brother Michael—who was and is without question the biggest pop star this world has ever seen and will ever see—to carve her own niche in the world of mega pop superstardom. Her award-winning music videos are revered and have been mimicked and copied for decades. Her 1993 Rolling Stone cover is arguably THE most famous and homaged image of a female pop star EVER in the history of the fucking music business. Her Rhythm Nation 1814 album is more relevant in today’s world of Trump-fueled bigotry, mass public shootings and social injustice than it was when it was released nearly 30 years ago. Her critically-lauded magnum opus The Velvet Rope has been cited by many members of the LGBTQ community as having saved their lives. Her song “Nasty” led a female revolt in the last presidential election without her having any hand in it. She’s Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty, and you WILL recognize.

Madonna is the number 1 selling female artist of all time. Of all time.
Madonna is the 4th highest selling music artist of all time. Of all time.
She is preceded only by The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.
Janet Jackson barely makes the list now and slips further down it due to career irrelevance and overwhelming public disinterest each year... Soon - she will be off the list.
[bold]Madonna wont...[/bold]

Janet is the only artist of her contemporaries to have a recent #1 album, and that includes Madonna, Celine and Mariah. She’s also the only one to have a recent Hot 100 charting song. She’s also the only one to have a #1 album in each of the last four decades. She’s also the only one currently being bestowed with award after award for her longevity and her icon status. She’s also the only one whose album that was released 30 years ago is more relevant today than it was when it was released. She’s also the only one with an Oscar nomination under her belt, was the first one to have a top 10 charting song, was the first one to sweep an awards show in one night, was the first one with five back to back #1 albums, and so on and so forth.
These FACTS make you all mad, I know, but you’ll get over it. And, if you don’t, well...

Which sold barely any units (even after being busted for counting uber giveaways and bundles as sales) and fell off the chart in a month. It was her biggest flop ever.
She’s also the only one to have a #1 album in each of the last four decades.
Again, Unbreakable was a foul smelling, embarrassing turd of a release that lost a LOT of money, so the fact that it debuted on a slow week and hit #1 is nothing to crow about.
She’s also the only one currently being bestowed with award after award for her longevity and her icon status.
Complete bullshit. Many, MANY artists have been awarded several of those kinds of awards, only legit ones, not some South Brazilian MTV thing what no one's ever heard of, or a Billboard Icon award that was bought and paid for to help boost awareness of someone's new single that went ahead and tanked.
She’s also the only one whose album that was released 30 years ago is more relevant today than it was when it was released.
You're the only saying that.
She’s also the only one with an Oscar nomination under her belt.
That Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis wrote and she put her name on.
was the first one to have a top 10 charting song
Oh really? Have you ever heard of Borderline, Lucky Star, Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Crazy for You, Angel, Dress You Up and Live to Tell? All Top 10 hits (3 of which went to #1) before Janet had her first hit.
Was the first one to sweep an awards show in one night
Yes, I remember this. It was the "Freshies," the Baja Fresh regional sales awards. Janet inspired seventeen black neighborhoods to spend their welfare checks on cheap Mexican food.
was the first one with five back to back #1 albums, and so on and so forth.
the last two which disappeared off the charts so fast, you probably thought they were made up. Janet does.

Awww, R364 took all that time to break down my post and still managed to say a bunch of nothing. It’s all true, dearie. UNBREAKABLE debuted at #1 solely based on physical store bought copies and digital sales ALONE. That it did so without the benefit of a ton of promo while HAGdonna’s inferior REBEL FART plopped out at #2 behind a weeklong barrage of promo only says what we’re already keenly aware of—that nobody gives a shit about the HAG anymore. And yes, UNBREAKABLE also made Janet one of only three artists in history to have a #1 album in each of the last four decades and the ONLY black artist to achieve this feat, so you can take this bit of trivia, marinate on it and then go sit your racist ass down in a corner somewhere.
P.S., don’t worry about UNBREAKABLE’s sales, darling. It’s an indie album and sold just fine. In fact, it’s sold more in the states than REBEL FART has to date. Lol!
And, about that top 10 single...
Janet’s 1995 single “Runaway” was the FIRST single by a female artist to DEBUT in the Hot 100 top 10, which was something that “Borderline”, “Lucky Star” or anything else released by HAGdonna, Stevie Nicks, or anybody else was able to achieve beforehand. Don’t believe it? Look it up. And prepare to be dazzled by Janet’s greatness and befuddled by your own everlasting stupidity.

You do know that after 1991, which was when Billboard began tracking with SoundScan, records and albums were constantly debuting in the Top 10 and at #1, so it would not have been possible for all those songs you named to be able to do that, including anything from Control or Rhythm Nation, since they were released prior to 1991?
Of course you do, but you're a liar and you can't comprehend fact.

R374, Roger Davies is still Cher's manager and has been for 20 years. He dumped Janet in 2002. The guy likes to represent performers who make money, can sell out tours don't play fairs.

Correction for lamebrain R382: Janet dumped Davies in 2004 because it was his idea for her to offer the taped SB apology, which she didn’t want to do in the first place because it wasn’t intentional. But even that wasn’t enough for Les Moonves, who proceeded to try and railroad her career because she didn’t call him crying ala Justin Timberfaggot.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | October 20, 2018 4:07 PM |
Speaking of SoundScan, 1993’s janet. album was the first album by a female to debut at #1 during that era. Madonna’s Erotica didn’t even make the cut.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | October 20, 2018 4:11 PM |
R385, wrong. Davies was done with Janet in 2002. He's not one of the most successful managers ever by continuing with losers.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | October 20, 2018 4:20 PM |
So can you explain:
1) why madonna’s total album sales to date is 3X more than janet’s. Madonna is also in the Guinness record for the best selling female artist of all time.
2) why madonna’s touring is hundred times more successful than Janet’s. She’s currently the highest touring artist of all time male or female
3) why madonna was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility while Janet has been nominated for the 3 time of 12 years of eligibility
Please explain these points and then we talk. Don’t be an low class uneducated ignorant person.

Janbot has clearly made a comment and the replies look exactly like a standard Datalounge thread. Nobody thinks she deserves to be inducted because she's completely talentless.
Just fascinating.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | October 26, 2018 12:29 PM |
Fascinating? Puh-lease. The loons who’ve infiltrated that thread (which I can’t be bothered to read) with their non-factor opinions are more than likely DL crazies trying to prove some kind of point. Truth is, they don’t have one. Janet Jackson deserves to be inducted into the RNR HOF and she has the decades-long career, the influence and the highly-decorated resume to back it up, so those bitter ninnies can crow until they’re blue in the face, but it’s all for naught. The Rock Hall CEO has even gone on record as saying that she should be in, and that if Madonna is in then Janet certainly should be in, which is the truth. In fact, the Future Rock Legends forum has many people who say the same.

Runners-up: MC5, The Zombies.
