I can't remember the year but I was still using a dial up modem. Maybe after the high tech stock market crash. I was googling Jodie Foster.

Michael Musto mentioned DL in one of his VV columns back in 2006 and included a link. I clicked on it and have been here ever since.

Googled The Normal Heart In 2014. Found a wonderful mixture of gay wit and wisdom and snark and nudity and got addicted.

Finished reading "You'll Never Eat Lunch in this Town Again," back in the late 90s. (I was home with the Flu; it was a good read.) One of the stories in this book contained the author's recollection of a Malibu Key Party, whose hostess was a Lily White Songstress from the 80s.

Back in 2005 I was cruising around Google, typed in the book's name and the songstress's boyfriend's name, and Voila!

Been here ever since.

Started here in 1999 but as an eldergay I don't remember how I found it.

2001. I found it through Alt. Gossip.celebrities- usenet.

A website that linked to thread about Peter North (big gay porn star who crossed over into straight porn and became an even big star there). This was in the early 2000s. I didn't get addicted to the site right away though. But soon got addicted to the huge variety of threads here. Back then, there was some real gossip insiders posting here too.

GAYBC, a defunct internet station of the late 90's, briefly mentioned DL on the air. I didn't like it much, but came back September 11th. 2001 and have read the site almost daily since. It grows on you.

I can't remember but its been quite a long time. Probably late 90's. I got my AOL email in 1994. That was my first and only email.

Googled "I hate Zoe Chace's voice" who at that time was a reporter on the podcast Planet Money. Found a whole thread of Zoe Chace haters as well as other voices on NPR--it was all really hilarious (that cooking show lady who's gone now was described with a voice of "breathy fatness" that just blew me away at how apt it was). This was in about 2012. There used to be a lot more funny threads like that. Not sure where all the funny people went or at least funny threads--are they off being funny somewhere else I don't know about?

I've written this several times over the years whenever there's a thread like this. I searched for "Joey Lawrence butt" in the late 90s and found a thread about that here. I stayed here for a bit but then sort of forgot about DL. I then did the same in the early 2000s, and have stayed since. Funny now that there's a thread about "Joey Lawrence bankrupt".

r28, that was a super funny thread. No one can be funny anymore because there are all these dummies here now who don't recognize humor and kill the mood.

This has become my go to site for newsy gossip. I especially love the live tweeting of events. The other day when DL froze up just as the Kavanaugh hearing was about to start, I panicked!

Googled "underappreciated, hidden gems films". DL was the second link. The sofa's comfy, the nibbles aren't too stale, the beer's more or less cold. My kinda dump.

About a year ago I googled the name of Armond Rizzo. I was directed to this site and started to read the snarky posts about this famous bottom. Some of the comments were so outrageous that I knew this was the place I needed to be for a few laughs. I also enjoy the Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper ones - the snarkier the better.

2006, someone on another board mentioned a DL soap rumor, and so I googled the DL. Even then people complained it wasn't as good as it used to be, but we have it good (when frauen and Russians aren't invading).

Originally found it via some gossip site which mentioned it was the "new" alt.gossip.celebrity / alt.showbiz.gossip. Didn't stick around, but in about 2004 found it again because a Miyoshi Umeki fan page linked to a DL thread about her. Said something like "if you ignore the mental patients the rest of the thread is useful."

When the Prancing Ponies showed up I left for a while. I was embarrassed because i knew some of them were surely people I knew from LiveJournal and other fandom websites. They still mention DL on Fail Fandom Anon sometimes and I cringe.

I found it in 2016 after googling “why does Hillary seem like such a cunt?”

A random Twitter link led me here early this year or in late 2017. I don’t recall the subject of the thread — something political, most likely. I also don’t recall whether it turned up in my Twitter feed randomly or was in the results of a specific search.

Loved what I found then, and I check in just about every day now. I still wonder how it escaped my attention for so long. As I read through threads I can practically hear the cackling, bitchy, and knowing voices of many of my friends, past & present.

That poster could blister skin. The rest were blowhards. Kicker, who never gave up, Mrs. Slocombe, who never shut up. The rest, it would probably pain them to know, I’ve forgotten. It was a good and rip roaring site then. The jackasses were part of the charm in a way. I dropped off during the Obama and Clinton campaigns. DL gets unhinged even for DL during certain elections.

I Googled Trivago Guy sometime around 2013 or 2014 and this was the only website talking about him.

I've been here around six or seven years. I had greatly enjoyed the celebrity snark on a site called The A List. (I'm still chuckling at their description of Merv Griffin as "gayer than an Ungaro spring frock.") Then the A List disappeared. I was Googling around hoping to find a gay gossip site that that would be just as witty and just as much fun to read. A link to DataLounge popped up, and I've been a fan ever since.

One of the first threads I read was something like "I Just Effed The Dog Walker", and the poster continued to regale us in his adventure of ogling the neighborhood dog walker, his "preparation", and then going outside to make his fantasy lover become a reality. The responses on that thread were a bunch of Mary!s telling him how irresponsible and gross the storyteller was. I was surprised that it seemed there were so many prudes here.

Curious, and while he was still passed out, I wrote the web address on the back of a matchbook cover (the Detroit Eagle, in case that information is relevant.) I didn't have a computer at the time, so later in the day, at another trick's apartment, I used his laptop to look up the site while he was in the shitter staring at himself in the mirror (he'd done a lot of mushrooms that day and was pretty useless in the sack.) While part of me is appalled at how much time I would have spent here over the years - I’m much more profoundly grateful to have found my people. It was social media for me before all of that - or the term! - existed. DL has not only always been good for a laugh - but has been a great aggregator of news - and comfort! - during so many big events since - 9/11, various crises and significant global events.

And friends always were (and still are) astounded that I was always so ahead of the curve when it came to gossip about celebs or whoever. Someone’s name would come up in a conversation or discusssion and I’d be all ‘oh puh-lease...’ and give the latest DL pronouncemts on the topic - which almost always turned out to be right (even though that was sometimes in the very long run!)

Dataloungers can spot a lack of authenticity better than anyone. I’m sure someone could do a study and get a doctorate out of it...

So yeah - always grateful that this place exists. You guys are the best!
